Computer no longer authorized to play music on iPod

I have been using my PC with Windows XP to run iTunes for my iPOD (Classic, I think?) When I updated the ituens software, the music on my iPod is no longer authorized on my computer. In addition, when I purchased songs from iTunes, they do not download when I sync it with my ipod.
How can I get this fixed? I just purchased an iTouch, and I will want to have all the songs on my iTunes sync with the new iTouch.
Thanks in advance!

  • No longer authorized to play items on iPod

I have connected my iPod for the first time since upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and to iTunes 9.0.1. I now get a message box saying that the computer is no longer authorized to play 54 of the songs that are on my iPod. I've found that I get the same message when I go directly to my music library and try to play the songs. I am asked if I want to authorize the computer to play these songs. When I select this option that requires me to log with my Apple ID, it says that the computer is already authorized, being one out of a possible five. But I keep getting the same message that it is not authorized. A curious point is that the authorization box defaults to an Apple ID that I do not use. If I try to retrieve from Apple the lost password for that default ID, I get a message saying that the Apple ID specified does not exist.
I have not identified all of the affected 54 songs but I think they must all have been originally downloaded from the Apple store, probably on one of my earlier Apple computers.
How can I overcome this problem without losing part of my iTunes music?

If you've updated your Apple ID (same account but different email address) then you'll want to authorize for the new Apple ID. It sounds like iTunes is prompting you to authorize with the email address associated with that file, which doesn't change/update if you ever change the Apple ID associated with your iTunes Store account.
Try going to https://iforgot.apple.com/ and clicking the "forgot your Apple ID" link to see if the site can determine what (it thinks) is your current Apple ID.
Are you sure your SC Info folder does not exist? It's a hidden folder so you can't simply click to it via the indicated filepath; you must select "Go to Folder" from your "Go" menu and enter the filepath exactly as it appears on the support document. I'd recommend copying and pasting the path.
FairPlay is the name of the technology Apple used in its DRM protected files. In a sense it's the root of the issue, but the fact that it's indicated on your file is not in and of itself a problem, nor is there anything that you can or should do about it. The version number isn't something that's up to you to update, so no worries about the "version 2."

  • Not authorized to play music?

For about a year now, I've had trouble playing music. I got a new computer last year and I think this is when the problem started, but I'm pretty sure it's on Apple's side, not mine.
I'll try to play a certain song, and iTunes tells me I can't play that song because my computer isn't authorized to play music from MY account.
My computer is authorized to play the music on my account, I've even tried deauthorizing and then re-authorizing but it doesn't help. Downloading the songs again *might* work but I have over 1200 songs, and probably about 25% of them don't work anymore. Some I've even bought fairly recently, others I've had on my account for years. The only songs I don't have a problem with are those that were added from a CD.
I can't even charge my iPod through my computer, because every time I hook it up, it disables the songs on  my iPod also...
iTunes is updated fully, excluding the latest update (get tired of downloading updates every other week, so I haven't updated yet).
I have 3 out of 5 computers authorized.
On an Asus laptop, Windows 7.
If any other information is needed, please let me know.
    Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Please? ;-;
An unrelated question, how can I deauthorize the other 2 computers? I no longer have either. One burnt in a house fire and the other got run over by a truck (...yeah). I've looked for answers to this before but can't find anything other than  "You need to deauthorize from the computer" which obviously isn't an option here.

I just got a laptop that uses windows vista none of my previously purchased itune songs are showing up in my library. When I follow your instructions, it still does not work. I get the same error message about authorizing my computer again. I am not a computer person - please help!!! a

  • I'm getting this error message  "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod '___'s iPod.' Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" I have authorized the computer.

I just purchased songs on itunes, I can play them on my windows 7, but when I try to sync the ipod, I get the error "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items on "Stephanie's ipod" Would you like to authorize this computer for purchases from the itunes store.  When I authorize it, it says it is already authorized. Then the process starts all over again. Help.

You can't change the Apple ID that the Authorize dialog comes up with by default. It's showing you that Apple ID for a reason: it means that the items you want to play were purchased using that Apple ID and therefore you need to authorize your computer with that Apple ID. Changing the Apple ID given completely defeats the entire purpose.
If you don't know the password to the given Apple ID, then you will no longer be able to play those items.

  • I got a new PC. I was able to back up the old one and dowloaded my iTunes library. I keep getting a message that says: This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on this iPod."  It asks me to authorize, which I have done 20 ti

My old PC died and I got a new one.  I was able to back up the old PC and downloaded my iTunes library on the new PC.  I keep getting  a message saying: "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on this iPod.  Would you like to authorize this computer for the items purchased from the iTunes store?"   I have authorized the new PC, but it continues to ask me over and over, and if I authorize it again, it tells me I already authorized.  So frustrating!  I deactivated the old PC and activated the new one.
Also, I purchased a song from iTunes store and while it shows in my library on the PC, it won't download to the iPod.  Why won't the new song download to the iPod?
    Any ideas. suggestions?

    Well Authorize the Computer...........

  • This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items

When I plug in my iPod and iTunes starts syncing, I get the message "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod '___'s iPod.' Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?"
When I then click Authorize, iTunes brings up an ancient iTunes ID that I haven't used in years. I do remember the password for it, though. However, that doesn't work. It says an error has occurred. When I enter my current (and longterm) iTunes ID and password, that also doesn't work (same error message). I've tried deauthorizing my Macbook but I get another error message. Worth noting--I don't get an error message when I log into iTunes through the store.
I don't think this is a problem with my iPod. I think it's an iTunes issue. (I could be wrong of course.) By the way, all of these songs should already be authorized. I haven't made any purchases lately, and syncing these songs previously has been no problem. It appears that the songs that are causing the trouble are DRM songs that I have yet to update (purchase an update from Apple, gee thanks, Apple) to non-DRM format.
    Please advise. Thanks!

This just happened to me too. I migrated my old mac to a new one. I was getting the same message "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone “_____”. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?". when I try to sync any ios device.
This worked for me. ALL user id's for itunes in the computer need to be authorized for every account on this machine.
When I click authorize after getting the message above I noticed that the ID that showing was for my spouses account. I actually have two itunes accounts on this machine (me and my spouse).
If you look in your itunes folder check if you have more than one itunes account. Open iTunes with the "option" key pressed. Select the other account. Sign in using your email username and password for that account. Then authorize that one. Log out, close itunes, and reopen with "option" pressed. Select your main itunes account. Sign in again with your normal ID and password.
I'm all fine now. I hope this works for you too.

  • This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?

My itunes on my iMac for the passed few weeks now keeps on comming with the message "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?"
or "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPad. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?"
This while everything was working fine.
Please advise what I can do with this message.
When I press autorize, it comes up with a unknow appleID. When I use apple ID's that work - it comes with the message that the computer is autorized. but then the autorization message comes back.

You can't change the Apple ID that the Authorize dialog comes up with by default. It's showing you that Apple ID for a reason: it means that the items you want to play were purchased using that Apple ID and therefore you need to authorize your computer with that Apple ID. • Computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items on your iPhone

I am all of a sudden getting an alert "this computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone “Bob's iPhone 5”. Would you like to authorize this computer...?"
No changes or deauthorization were done to Mac before this alert. Worked fine this morning.
When I try to reauthorize it tells me I already am authorized, and then cycles back to the alert window telling me I am not authorized.  Same for my iPhone 5 and my iPad.
    Any thoughts?

    Hey there,
You discussion came up in a search for the same error message that milepost included in the start of this thread.
I have the same error message across multiple devices that my family uses.   It is intermittent and once I put my password in for the account it comes up with a window that says something to the effect that all 5 of 5 computers have been authorized for this account - but it seems to carry on after that.
I just wanted to add that I am seeing a similar message and do not recall anything that has changed to cause it.  We are a multi iOS family but so I just wanted to confirm that the limit of 5 refers to computers - not to the number of iOS devices that may be managed on the computers - is that correct?

  • I am trying to sync my iPad to my computer.  When I do,  I am told that "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPad"

I am trying to sync my iPad to my computer.  When I do, using either WiFi or USB connection, I receive the following message: "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPad "XXX".  Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" I have deauthorized and reauthorized repeatedly, and even trashed the SC folder, but the symptom continues.  I am using OS 10.9.3. iOS 7.1.1, and iTunes 11.2.2. Suggestions/solutions would be welcome!

A link in the article that Texas Mac Man provided has several troubleshooting steps for "repeated requests for authorization":
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases
Take a look to see if any of those steps will clear up you issue.

  • This computer is no longer Authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone

I just moved all my files from my old PowerBook Pro to my new PowerBook Pro which came with Lion pre-installed.  Everything has worked fine except that when I try to sync my iPhone to my Power Book, I get a popup box saying that "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPhone.  Would you like to authorize the computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?"  It also warns me that if I do not authorize this computer, 132 items will be removed from the iPhone.  When I tell it to authorize, it then tells me that the computer is already authorized, and then I get the same message again.  I have tried deauthorizing my new computer, then try syncing again.  I tell it to authorize, it tells me that authorization was successful.  Then I get the same popup and message telling me that this computer is no longer authorized.  I have deauthorized the old computer.
Would appreciate any suggestions you might have.
    Thank you,

    Yup,
Me too...this is stupid, stupid, stupid. Just purchased my 200 (ish) mac and now I am told that my new Mac Book pro is not "authorized".
Which if my 200 macs are authorized. Can someone please tell me???
I "deauthorized" my old MBP and still told I cannot use my iPhone with iTunes.
Interesting that my old $2500 MBP, my new $3000 MBP and my $500 iPhone all cannot work cuz of some pinhead's decision to use this assorization process.
Yes I am very, very, very mad.

I try to play the Itunes song I purchased. I have a new computer, another internet provider since I purchased the songs, and have switched to a new internet browser Internet Explorer 8. I keep getting a dialog box saying "this computer is not authorized to play the song. would you like to authorize it?
An old Apple ID popps up and I am asked for the old passwork which I no longer remember. I successfully changed to a new Apple ID and password.
when I enter that, a new dialog box appears, saying "this computer is already authorized." When I try to play the song the first box appears again,
I I go round over and over, with no success playing my songs. Can anybody out their resolve this? Thanks for any help

Were these songs purchased using another account?
" I opened a new iTunes account and copied the files to the new account.  "
Do you mean to a new library?
Account is a user neame and password with which you purchase content.
A library is your collection of media.

If you do not authorize this computer, 117 songs, including “Der Kommissar”, will be removed from the iPod.
I have authorized the computer but keeps giving me the message above.
I recently had my mother board replaced but my hard drive was spared.  Ever since the replaced mother board I been getting this message.

  • How to play music that my computer isn't authorized to play?

A couple years back, I had an account (using my dad's credit card/email) on the Itunes store on which I bought a couple songs. I now want to listen to those songs, but iTunes is telling me that my computer isn't authorized to play it. I don't remember the password and my dad has deleted that email account since that time so I can't authorize it...anything I can do?

    Download VLC player http://vlc-media-player.en.softonic.com/mac...
or if youre lucky enough to have a program such as compressor, wondershare, or anything that converts files. convert it from apples itunes m4a to MP3 or anything else. that way you can use it on your itunes or anyone else's without having to authorize.

Apparently not!! I am NOT happy about it either! I had always bought my mp3's from walmart.com (until they quit doing it) & ANY time I had a problem, they had it corrected in less than 5 minutes! Apple is a large enough company, that they should have an EASY to find support system. Having to post on here, WAITING for someone who MIGHT know how to fix it, is aggrevating!! I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANY MORE MUSIC FROM ITUNES & WILL BE GOING TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN APPLE PRODUCT!
