Computer "Not authorized" to play half my library

After updating my iTunes with the lastest version a few days ago, I was faced with a message that said that my computer was "not authorized to play" certian songs when I went to update my iPod. The songs remained intact in library on my PC, but were deleted from my iPod. They also include tv shows, movies, and games- roughly half my iPod content! Please help; I have no idea what to do and don't want my hard earned money to go down the drain.

Find one of those songs, play it in iTunes, and authorize the computer when prompted. You will need to know the Apple ID used to purchase that song and that ID's current password.

  • "Computer Not Authorized To Play Song" Box

Just updated to v9.0.2. Only have a small issue.
Since 2004 I have managed to establish three iTunes accounts. This was out of ignorance of what an account really is. I am presently only using my latest account. The other two are just "dormant", but have songs/albums that were purchased using them and back then the songs/albums fell into the "Digital Rights Management" (DRM) category.
But, like now, after an update I will get the "Computer Is Not Authorized To Play Song" box when I am playing one of my playlists.
The Box tells me the account name and ask for password to authorize the song.... I type in the password for the account and get another box stating that "This Computer Is Already Authorized To Play This Song".....???
Is there any method to "blanket authorize" all the song in my library? Or do I have to check every song in all my playlists to be sure that they will play??
Is there any method to consolidate all songs/albums in my library to just my "presently used" account?? iTunes Store has been nice a has tried to help, but keep saying that I have to keep all three accounts for the rest of my life or loose all the songs I've purchased on each account.... puke. The "Store" was very nice and responsive, I have to say...
    Any suggestions???

I had several symptoms on this "keeps asking to authorize computer" issue including showing a grey screen when ask to play music videos or TV shows. This seemed to have happen some 5 weeks after I changed my itunes account ID, even if it was working perfectly fine after such change. Worst, it keeps prompting the old account ID every once in a while. It also happen randomly with no specific pattern on either newly added or previously existing songs AND on both initial account ID or the more recent account ID.
It looks like the iStore account ID and/or the iStore authorization registry mechanism or database is out of control. The only way I was able to resolve this was to de-authorize my computer several times (up to 3) even if the message kept coming back with the message that your computer is not authorize, some how it appears that doing it several times seems to clear an outstanding registry inside the istore database. That I can say, so far it seems to work . . . enjoy. One comments is that I am really not impressed with Apple support or their inability to correct the situation since all of you may have notice that this is a problem that seems to be there for several weeks. I have spent way too many hours fugging the dog on this problem

  • Computer "not authorized" to play song, but when I authorize it, it still won't play

The last song I bought won't play.  When I attempt to play it I get a pop up that says "this computer is not authorized to play "name of song" would you like to authorize it?  I put in my apple id and password and try again and I get the same pop up.  I only have 2 computers authorized, all my other songs are working, including this week's free song which I downloaded a few days after purchasing the song in question.  Any help would be appreciated

If you are in a country where re-downloading is possible (check this with iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085), delete the track (and the original file) and download again (Downloading [using iOS or computer] past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).  See tips on downloading in https://discussions.apple.com/message/19097773, especially unchecking the "Allow Simultaneous Downloads" box in the downloads tab of iTunes.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • Computer Not Authorized to play purchased music

After upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5 I tried to sync my iPod touch with my computer to transfer a new album I bought from iTunes. I got the followingn message: "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod...(nome of iPod).. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" I checked authorize, and got a message that the computer is already authorized. I tried to sync again, got the same message. I next deauthorized the computer and reauthorized it. I still get the message that the computer is not authorized to play purchased items....
Any ideas on what I need to do to be able to sync my music?

Try the quick solution first. Use the iTunes "Store" menu and select deauthorize computer. Then select authorize computer. Try to sync again.

  • "computer not authorized to play"

Just bought the G3S and it has messed up my itunes syncing.
It would not sync most of my apps. They are on my computer but don't transfer to my iphone.
Some video and music does not transfer saying that the computer is not authorized to play the items. This is also now happening with my AppleTV.
    What to do?

My problem seems to have been resolved. Although I do have another question. I have an original iphone and a 3G in addition to my new 3GS. The two older phones are no longer used as phones but I would like to keep them up to date. Can I sync all three phones on the same computer?

  • Computer not authorized to play a particular song off an album?

Hi any help would be very much appreciated.
I've just bought an album from iTunes (Born to Die - The Paradise Edition by Lana Del Rey) all the songs would appear to have downloaded ok and all of them play except one song.
iTunes says the computer is not authorized to play "Cola". Which is weird as all the other songs downloaded at the same time, with the same account are played with no authorization needed.
I've put my Apple ID/password in but it just says 'including this one, you have authorised 5 computers out of your available 5', I don't think that is correct, but even if it was why then are all the other songs working?
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

  • Computer not authorized to play this music message

This problem has just started to occur. I get a message that says, "this computer is not authorized to play purchased music" when I try to do a slide show. I then authorize it, but I still can't get the music that I have purchased to play.

    riverhawk:
You'll have to go into iTunes and reauthorize those tracks you've purchased from the iTunes store. If you need more info on how, post your question in the iTunes forum.

I have downloaded itunes onto my computer and purchased an album. I then tried to update my friends ipod nano manually. I got a message that said some songs in the itunes library including the selected ones cannot be updated because this computer is not authorized.

  • "Computer not authorized to play songs" can not sync to Ipod

Ok i have over 100 purchased songs that i want to sync to my iPod, only problem is it is telling me that i am not authorized. However I can listen to them in Itunes with no problem. Any Ideas? thanks

First, have you added them to the itunes library? Second have you authorized the computer through itunes? To do this open itunes, click on store and click on authorize computer.

  • Computer not authorized to play a tune

I set up my account with my original email account and made several Itunes purchases.
I then changed my service provider and so changed my email address in my account and made several more Itunes purchases.
I changed my email address in my account again today.
I tried to play a tune today purchased with the original email address but I get a message 'this computer is not authorised to play this tune'. To authorise it, it is showing that I must put in a password for the original email address. I cannot remember it and if I ask it to retrieve my password, it will send an email to the original email address which no longer exists. I am stuck.
I am able to play tunes purchased under the 2nd email address.
I tried to use the 'Chat' facility on the apple support site, input my question and got a message saying a support person would be with me in 1 minute - I have had no response whatsoever which is why I am posting here.
    Someone please help.

    Welcome to AD!
Sounds like you have somehow gotten yourself 2 accounts, but maybe not.
Have you tried the iForgot tool?

  • Not Authorized to Play Songs?

I normally use my laptop to download from iTunes, but while it was in the shop, I used my desktop to download some songs and manually transferred them to my iPod. No problems. When I connected my iPod to my laptop, again, no problems. All the songs transferred any played. Now, for some reason, when I connected my iPod to my laptop, not only did I get the message Some of the items in the iTunes were not copied to the iPod "Brooke's iPod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." The weird thing is that a) the computer is authorized to play songs on my account and b) I downloaded several of the items ON this computer. It looks as though I'm going to have to go through and manually reauthorize 357 items by entering my password and user ID. Does anyone have any idea what happened or why it happened?

I have a very similar problem!!! just recovered my hard drive after a wicked virus. I bought an external usb hard drive, backed up all of my data, spoke to Dell employees in 3 different countries and got my drive cleaned up and everything reinstalled. I went to iTunes and downloaded the program... transfered my library back into it... when I go to play songs it says "computer not authorized to play this song".... so I go through the steps, authorize, and it still gives me the same message over and over. A lot of this music came from other sources and used to work on iTunes just fine. I uninstalled iTunes and started all over, but I have the same problem going on.... I'm so frustrated and i miss my music! Hope someone out there can help

  • IDVD08 doesn't solve "computer not authorized" issue

Boy am I dumb - I originally posted my problem in burning an iMovie DVD which contained DRM protected music from iTunes. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1101333
I had this great idea that Apple would have solved the issue in iLife08 - so I upgraded during the week - the guys in the Apple shop did not have a clue what I was talking about but I gave it a go anyway .... but no, the problem is still there - which I would have known if I'd bothered to read these discussions.
Bottom line: iLife 08 does not solve the "computer not authorized" to play music from iTunes
Here's another good discussion thread for this major issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1076620
Message to Apple Team: SORT IT OUT ! You're now reminding me of Microsoft

Make an audio CD from iTunes:
In iTunes go into Preferences/Advanced/Burning. Select Disc Format: Audio CD. Then select your Playlist and click the Burn button in the lower right-hand corner.
At one time, Apple allowed you to make 7 copies of your iTunes purchased music. I don't know what it is these days, but one copy is a great backup for the day your hard drive fails...
Then insert your new audio CD and iTunes should give you import options.
