itunes not recognizing 1st gen nano?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • Computer not recognizing Shuffle

    Hi,
I went to plug in my iPod shuffle to load songs and iTunes won't pop up, and it seems that the computer is just not recognizing it.
I also tried it in my Windows computer, and I'm experiencing the same problem. I took it to the Apple store closest to me (unfortunately I didn't make a "reservation" - the guy did look at it though, and confirmed that it was not working properly).
All of the lights come on and everything so it's not like the unit is dead. I just purchased it in June.
Instead of going back to the store, is there a place where I can ship it for repair? Will Apple send me a box to put it in postage-paid?
Has anyone experienced this problem with their Shuffle?
    Thanks!

My computer is not recognizing my new 4th generation IPOD Shuffle

I had the same problem then I discovered I was not pushing the Jack in fully. Once I did this it suddenly became successfully recognised. (Only took me 4 hours of trying to realise what I was doing wrong) Hope this helps.

  • Computer not recognizing a shuffle

I noticed a lot of you have the same problem, I found out that I needed to use one of my back usb ports instead of one on the front. This is because the front usb ports do not have enough power. I hooked it up to the back usb port and it was recognized right away. hope it helps.

  • New computer not recognizing iPod

My laptop hard-drive crashed, but I had all my iTunes on an external hard drive. My iPod (30GB, noncolor, flywheel) had been synching with the ailing laptop and was not working right (showing the folder/exclamation point sign; when I hard reset it now I just get the Apple symbol and clicking sounds), so I'm assuming my iPod problems are just a reflection of an aborted synch attempt with the dying compueter.
So now I've successfully reset iTunes on my work desktop PC with Windows XP via the external hard drive. I downloaded the latest iPod version onto the new computer but it is not "recognizing" my iPod...it says to plug in my iPod when it is already plugged in. The plugged in iPod seems to alternate between "Do Not Disconnect" and "OK to Disconnect" (with a giant checkmark) messages. Regardless, the iTunes page is not "recognizing" the iPod...
Once I do figure out how to get my iPod "recognized", should I choose to RESTORE or UPDATE it? I don't have playlists or ratings to worry about, just ~3500 preciously selected songs I enjoy shuffling at random.
    Thanks!

I cannot "See" the iPod. I have tried it on different computers that worked before with my iPod. On a laptop computer, there is some humming and clicking as if it is about to be recognized, but my iPod never shows up on the iTunes list (under Library, playlists, etc). When I go to "My Computer", there is nothing listed under the appropriate E drive (USB port). On a desktop computer, the iPod actually changes to the "Do Not Disconnect" sign and again there is the expected humming and clicking that suggests it is going to be "recognized", but it never comes up on the iTunes list. Under My Computer, there is a transient picture of something like a hard-drive with a big red questionmark, as if the computer is in the process of "recognizing" something at the USB port, but this fades and then there is intermittently this "removable storage" listed under drive F. As if it is only transiently being "recognized". When I manage to right click on the transient icon under My Computer, I get the list pulled down and left click on "Format..." but nothing happens. Then the iPod screen changes from "Do Not DIsconnect" (which again was an improvement from the other computer where there was no sign the iPod was even attempting to engage with the computer) to the giant checkmark and "OK to Disconnect" sign OR goes back to the "File Folder/! icon". Tried several times....
    What do you think?

  • Itunes & Computer not recognizing Ipod

Since we purchased them in December, my wife and I both have both been using our iPod 2nd generation Nanos(2 GB)with our laptop. Suddenly today her iPod is is no longer being recognized by ITunes and the computer.
Her iPod doesnt show up in "My Computer" or the Device Manager. Since it doesnt show up in ITunes at all, I can't force a sync. My iPod is still recognized, so it is not a problem with the USB cable or the USB port.
How can I get ITunes and our computer to recognize her Ipod again-? Is there any other way besides resetting it-?
    Thanks~~

    Try looking into these articles:
iPod doesn’t show up in My Computer or in iTunes
iPod not recognized and Windows Device Mnager is empty
Also, it's possible that this is being caused by drive letter confusion. If the above articles don't seem to help, you might want to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps here:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Then, after you've done that, disconnect your iPod, and reconnect your wife's iPod to the computer, and see if it is recognized.

The first ipod i setup works fine. When i plug in the second ipod, the itunes does not recognize it. • Computer not recognizing my built in iSight

my computer is not recognizing its camera. I have tried restarting, forcing restart, and holding keys that apple care has previously told me to hold. I checked in my system profile and it does not even show my build in isight. Does anyone have a trick that has worked for them before, or a special way to restart my computer that may fix the problem? i am leaving for europe soon and don't want to mail in my computer if i don't have to!

I have reset the PMU twice and have reset PRAM (holding down apple-option-p-r at startup),I have also repaired disk permissions on my startup disk.
I can get access to the built-in isight for photobooth and other apple applications but as soon as I try to enable it in VMWare Fusion it stops the VMWare machine (Windows Vista) from booting until I disconnect the iSight from VMWare.
The iSight then disappears from the available hardware in VMWare Fusion (so I cannot reconnect it in Fusion) and I cannot access the iSight in any Apple application.
I have Applecare... I think I'll see if I can get any help there.

  • Computer not recognizing that my ipod is pluged in!!

I have recently reformatted my comeputer and got some new music put on my itunes and when i tried to plug in my ipod it just doesnt do anything...like the little screen on the ipod that usually sais "do not disconnect" doesnt come up...the computer doesnt even accnowladge that anything is pluged in...i tried downloading the newest ipod softwhare and that didnt work...i tried putting in the origional disk that came with it and that didnt do anything...also when i plug my ipod into the computer it drains the battery instead of charging it...suggestions??

I don't know if this might work for you guys but this is what got my problem solved. If you experience the following, the Ipod was working but suddenly it stops working (i.e. the ipod screen is totally blank no icons like battery low or whatever) and when you connect it to the computer the little sign that means do not disconnect does not appear (the pc does not recognized that the ipod is connected) then maybe this might solve your problem. Do not connect the Ipod to the computer for about 24 hours. Do not try to charge it or anything just leave it by itself let the battery drained then try it the next day and hopefully the icon of battery is low will appear then you can charge it by connecting to the pc.
This is what happened to me by accident i guess, i had given up and had realized that i had just spend two hundred dollars on something that didn't work but today i tried to turned it on and the battery is low icon appeared so i connected to the PC and now it works.
    Good Luck.
