Computer not recognizing iPhone

Hello!
When I plug the iPhone into a USB port on my MacMini G4, nothing happens - neither iTunes nor iPhoto are launched, and the phone doesn't even charge. I tested the port with other devices, and it works fine.
This exact setup has worked like charm for the 18 months I've had the 3G phone. I've not upgraded anything (the mac osx, 10.4.11 or the phone os, 3.1.2) on the mac or the phone. The phone charges when plugged into a wall socket. I've repaired permissions, emptied the cache folder, reset the iphone, all to no avail.
Please help!
Thanks.

  • Windows 8.1 Computer not recognizing iPhone 5 and iTunes not opening

So i've been having these issues persist since I updated to iOS7 in September. Computer is a MSI GT60 2OD-026US running windows 8, now 8.1.
How this all started in September:
    1. Download iTunes and it sees iPhone, update to iOS7
    2. Everything is all good until it tries to connect to iTunes after extracting the old software, the computer doesn't acknoledge the phone is connected.
    3. Try all usb ports, no luck
    4. update usb drivers, already updated, no help
    5. reinstall itunes, no luck
    6. itunes starts to not open, its running in the task manager but no window shows up, even after ending the task and relaunching
    7. uninstall itunes and reinstall on the OS drive, now it works, but still wont see iphone.
    8. temporary fix found, iphone successfully restores on a different computer and all is good for a while
    Second problem:
    1. try to sync new CD onto iPhone, when suddenly I have over have my phone filled with "other" data
    2. restore to clear "other" data
    3. computer again wont recognize it after extracting the software
    4. again use temporary fix of going to another computer
    Today:
    1. got a lot of new non itunes music, going to sync it
    2. uh oh, I have duplicate songs on it and lots of the album artwork is wrong
    3. woah, suddenly I have 5 gb of "other" data, lets restart for a clean slate
    4. and like clockwork my computer doesn't recognize it after software extraction, get 4005 error message
    5. reinstall itunes and itunes refuses to open because I moved it back to my 1TB drive instead of my 128GB SSD OS drive because it was getting rather full.
    5. iTunes again will not open, even in safe mode but again shows up in the taskbar
I've looked at many threads similar to this and no solution has worked.
Have any ideas? or should I just bring my computer into the apple store?

I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

  • ITunes and Computer not Recognizing iPhone

I've had iPhone for a few weeks and no major problems. However, today I attached it to my computer to move some new songs from iTunes to iPhone and iTunes did not recognize my iPhone and my computer gave me the "found new hardware" message. What's up with this?

  • ITunes not recognizing iPhone 5 iO7 on Windows 7

I have exhausted myself dealing with this problem. My iTunes will not recognize my iPhone 5. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and my computer recognizes the phone when i plug it in, however, my iTunes does not so I am not able to sync any music. I have tried practically everything I have found on the internet to fix this problem and even the people at the Apple store could not help me with my problem. I have uninstalled and installed all Apple related programs, I have insured that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is working correctly but nothing seems to fix the problem. I just don't know what to do anymore because nothing seems to work. I have followed the suggestions contained in the following discussions but nothing seems to work. Thank you for your help.

Re: iTunes not recognizing iPhone 5
Feb 16, 2014 7:45 AM (in response to oryyx)
    Had this problem this morning.
Once in the past had to erase my iphone and reload it.That was unpleasant.
    This morning had the problem,too.
Plugged in my iphone directly into the Imac (not hub) then clicked shut down on the imac.
Pressed the button in the back while the iphone was still plugged in-and when rebooted iphone was visable in itunes.
    Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for your suggestion. I'm using a MacBook Air and I just tried this with my laptop - shutting down the computer all the say (not restarting it) and then booting it back up with the phone plugged in. It didn't work but it was worth a shot! Thank you!

I had this exact same problem and just figured out how to fix it. I had to reload the driver on the iphone5 in order for itunes to recognize the device. Follow the steps here to see if you might need to do the same thing. Once I reinstalled the driver, everything works fine and I'm now able to sync with itunes again.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have seen a TON of posts like mine where this is the solution. Unfortunately, I am on a Mac not Windows so the driver isn't the problem.

  • Computer not recognizing phone but iTunes does

I know there have been several issues with Windows 7 not recognizing iPhones. iTunes does recognize my phone but when I try to sync it my computer does not recognize it. I went to the Device Manager which does show the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. It says I have the most current driver installed but yet when I go to My Computer it does not show my phone as being connected. Please let me know what I am doing wrong!!!!

Why do you want to see it in "My Computer"?
Have you taken pics with the iphone that you are trying to import?

  • My PC not recognizing iPhone

My Pc not recognizing iPhone. I tryed a lot of ways but nothing help.

If its anything like what my pc does from time to time... Is that when I plug in , Itunes "locks" up for a period of time followed by it finally "letting go" and then not seeing my iphone.  Granted, I use an Iphone 4 but none the less I'm assuming this is the issue you are having.
What I do (cant take credit for this, learned from another user on these boards) is hold your home button and power button at the same time.  Let the iphone turn off and then turn it back on.  Plug it back in , and it should be seen.  If that does not work (does not always for me) try it when the usb cable plugged in.   One or the other usually does the trick for me.
    Good luck!

Ok so I rented a movie on itunes and I want to watch it on my computer, not my iphone. How do I play it?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you rented the movie from your phone you will have to watch it from your phone. It is nontransferable.

Mercedez Benz COMAND System not recognizing iPhone 5 after iOS 8 update, can we expect the same result with iPhone 6 or 6 plus?
I'm planning to purchase the 6 plus, but I need to know from where.whom will the fix for this problem emerge.

My new iPhone 6 paired perfectly with my Mercedes system.  That said, on your iPhone 5, reset your network settings and then try to pair it again.

  • Windows PC suddenly not recognizing iPhone. Recognizes another iPhone just fine. USB works until operating system in PC (XP) loads. Any clues out there?

Windows suddenly not recognizing iPhone, yet recognizes another iPhone fine (sees in iTunes, etc.) USB appears to be fine - passes electrical to iPhone until operating system (XP) boots, and then "disconnects". I've gone through all of Apples suggestions for troubleshooting - including msconfig. Same result - quick double "bong" tone and no connectivity to iTunes. Versions are all up-to-date.
    Any suggestions out there?

How did you get the VMWare sync to work? I hate Apple at this point.

  • Computer not recognizing the iphone

    The Problem:
All of the sudden, whenever the iphone is plugged into the computer, the computer fails to recognize its presence. However the itunes program recognizes that the phone is plugged and allows syncing, etc...).
    The OS:
    This is a WINDOWS XP
The Goal: Want it to show up in the camera and scanner wizard so the photos can be transferred on to the computer.
    Troubleshooting Done So Far:
    - Restarted the iphone. Computer didn't recognize iphone after this.
    - Restarted the computer. Computer didn't recognize iphone after this.
    - There was an update recently, but it was working fine after the update so this shouldn't be the problem
-Tried plugging into different USB ports (all of which work with other devices). Still not recognized.
    - Tried going to "disk management" to disable and enable the iphone option under "portable media". There was no iphone option.
    - Tried going to the "control panel" and to "cameras and scanners". There was no iphone option.
    Getting Desperate...
    - Tried free software called "read disk" or something like that which is a free iphone explorer application. That worked - could find the photos, but they were in a .dth format so they couldn't be retrieved
If you can offer a work around at least so the goal can be achieved that would be very helpful.
    Thank you in advance!

I had this exact problem it's not your computer it's the software on the phone here's what apple did had me reinstall iTunes 12x then wipe and format my hard drive. They replaced my phone 3x all this started with 3.1 3.1.2 did not fix finally the third phone took and apparently from other post they still have problems if I were you call apple log a case then go into apple store I personally think they eaither don't care or don't know how to fix it. They will have you do every step they have. After you call and log a case try this restore the phone as a new phone not from a back up that has helped some.

  • HT1414 computer is not recognizing iphone

I bought 2 iphone 4's from a friend.  I fixed the screens and am trying to give them to other friends.  Only problem is that neither of them will connect to my Macbook (itunes)   they are not registering at all.  I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that there is no service on the devices.  I thought the problem was the charger connector so I changed that out as well.  Still, it will not connect.  Has anyone else had this issue and know what I can do to fix it.
I have the newest itunes and iphone software.  I have used multiple USS connectors as well.

Try DFU Mode Restore. Here are the steps:
Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release Power button, keep holding Home button. When iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, if iPhone screen is blank, black this is DFU Mode. Usually takes up to 20 more seconds of holding Home button. Restore the iPhone firmware. DFU Mode can be a bit tricky even for experienced users, so keep trying to get DFU Mode. Again it is Recovery Mode with the blank, black screen. If you have the iTunes screen this is not DFU Mode, keep trying.

  • Erased MBPro not recognizing iPhone/iPad

I did and earase and istall on my MacBook Pro three months ago to solve a problem, it was a really good thing to do as I had been 'migrating' my stuff from old computer to each new ones taking junk along and collecting more. However I installed all applications with the discs or new downloads NOT from my back up. then I brought my files back in as needed.
Now I'm up and running great and have my iCal and Address book in place I still have only Apps and Podcasts in my iTunes....NO MUSIC. I don't know which file to go to to restore that.
The most puzzling thing is that when I plug in my iPad or iPhone they are not recognized! In my iTunes account I tried to Deauthorize in order to Re authorized but apparently I've done this at some time and I'm told I cannot Deauthorize until July 18th!  It says I have 2 devices already authorized but I don't know where to look to see what these are...I've used iPods too...they may be those.
    Any advice?  Thanks, Carolyn
