Computer not recognizing phone but iTunes does
I know there have been several issues with Windows 7 not recognizing iPhones. iTunes does recognize my phone but when I try to sync it my computer does not recognize it. I went to the Device Manager which does show the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. It says I have the most current driver installed but yet when I go to My Computer it does not show my phone as being connected. Please let me know what I am doing wrong!!!!
Why do you want to see it in "My Computer"?
Have you taken pics with the iphone that you are trying to import?

hi can somebody help me... itunes does not accept the iphone 4s but i already have the version 64 bit to work with windows 7 64 bit, the computer recognizes the phone but itunes sais i need 64 bit itunes. please is there something im missing... thanks
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.) -
I have a PC. I would like to sync my iPad2 via itunes. My computer recognizes my ipad but itunes does not. I have uninstalled itunes, shut down the computer and restarted plus reinstalled itunes. I visited the Apple store there is no problem with the iPad or the cord. I still have the same problem and am unable to sync when I plug in the iPad via the USB cord. Does anyone have further suggestions?
Try going into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTUnes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. Then redownload and reinstall iTunes and see if it'll work
If the computer sees your iPad you know the cable and connection is good, so the issue has to be software. -
I am not tech savvy, to say the least. But the latest versions of itunes and an upgrade for my ipod touch popped up for an upgrade, so I upgraded both. Now, my ipod touch (purchased in 12/2010) is not being recognized by itunes. My computer picks it up and it will charge, but nothing else is happening. I have tried resetting the ipod...but that didn't help anything. What else should I do? I keep seeing info about uninstalling itunes....how does that work and will all of my files (music and apps) be ok?
General troubleshooting for unrecognized ipods in Windows is mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
Start by checking Apple Mobile Device Service: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
Removing and reinstalling iTunes is covered here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
As mentioned in this article, reinstalling iTunes will not delete your music and apps, but backing up is always a good idea.
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. See how to back up the contents of your iTunes library in How to back up your media in iTunes. -

Hi eisense,
I also have a similar problem but not quite the same. First of all, let me give you the setup of the configuration:
-- Desktop PC OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
-- iTunes version: 11.3.1.2 (latest) for 64-bit
-- iPad Air with 3G/4G SIM slot
-- iOS version: 7.1.2 (11D257)
-- Several USB peripherals: Keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner.
What I want to do is to sync my iPad with iTunes (NOT to charge it via USB). However, I get a strange behaviour 99% of the time (I will talk about the 1% later). The behaviour is the following:
1. I connect the iPad to any USB port of my PC. My desktop PC is a new one, substantially "beefed up".
2. The iPad changes continuously from "Charging" to "Not charging" and vice versa all the time (the change of "charging states" happens roughly every 2 seconds).
3. While doing that, iTunes changes state from recognizing the iPad to "not identifying it properly". It suggests that I disconnect and reconnect it again. No matter how many times I do that, it never does any good.
4. Eventually I get an error (error code: 0xE8000084) but the change of "charging states" goes on and on.
5. During this time I was checking the Windows Device Manager. When the iPad was at the "charging" state the "Apple Mobile Device USB" appeared under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section of the Device Manager. When it was not charging, the "Apple Mobile Device USB" disappeared.
6. Even in the case the iPad was charging the "Portable Devices / Apple iPad" entry didn't appear in the Device Manager.
I have read all the posts about the particular error code and about the connectivity issues with iTunes. However, no matter what I have tried I haven't resolved my problem yet. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes according to Apple instructions. Rebooted my PC while removing all the other USB peripherals. I stopped and restarted the AMDS service. I hard rebooted the iPad. I switched USB cables. I even tried to sync my iPhone 5S in case it was an iPad problem. All has failed. Even the iPhone has the same behaviour.
NOW, about the 1% I was talking before.
If the iPad is completely charged to 100% (99% is not enough) the problem disappears. During the time that the battery is at 100% the iPad is not charging and at the same time all is fine with iTunes. The problem reappears when the battery goes to 99%.
I don't remember having this problem a few months back. Any ideas? -
everytime that I try to connect my ipod to itunes, a message says the the program is not downloaded properly and needs to be re-installed. I had three different I T techs do this and I get the same message each time I try to connect. can anyone help ?
This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable. Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

Computer not recognizing phone
Hi Guys,
Earlier my phone was recognized by my PC when the USB mode of the phone was set to "data storage". Few days ago I got a virus on the the PC and while cleaning it, ASC (Advanced system care) removed some registry entries.
Now the Nokia phone is not being recognized by my PC. Device manager shows it as "Other Devices". How should I make my phone work? Any ideas !!!
P.S. - I don't use Nokia PC suite as I don't need to synchronize/backup data. I just need to transfer data between phone and PC using USB mode.Uninstall BlackBerry Link , Delete the Drivers , Reinstall BlackBerry Link and then connect your Device

TS4062 Computer not recognizing Phone
My iPhone is not showing up as a device when I am plugging it into my computer. The last time it was plugged in, the wrong button was clicked and it is now recognizing it as a camera only. Any ideas on how to fix this?! I'm running a Windows8.1 computer.
Why do you want to see it in "My Computer"?
Have you taken pics with the iphone that you are trying to import? -
when I connect my iPhone, iPhoto opens and the phone begins charging but iTunes does not recognize it and I cannot sync. Any advice?
Howdy AndieKanaras,
It sounds like your iPhone is being recognized everywhere but in iTunes. I would use the troubleshooting for that issue in the following article, named:
If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I have not been able to sync my iPhone 5s on my PC sincethe most recent update to iTunes. My computer showsthe iPhone as connected, but iTunes does not recognize it. I tried the trouble shooter and got device not recognized. I clicked the help button beside the failed test and get iPod instructions. How do I get iPod instructions for work for an iPhone? Better, how can I get this to show iPhone instructions? (On my other computer, I had to uninstall every Apple product to get the new iTunes to work.)
You wrote: (On my other computer, I had to uninstall every Apple product to get the new iTunes to work.)
You may have to do this on this computer as well. http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5376 -
My iphone4s does not turn on,when I connect to power ,it shows the message "connect to itunes" but when I connect to iTunes,my pc does not detect my phone,so iTunes does not detect my iPhone.
Are you running the most recent version of iTunes for Windows on your PC? You may be running an older version that is incompatible with the 4s.
Hope this helps -
