When I connect my ipod to my comp it does not charge it or register it is connected. It is a old black and white scroll wheel. Is there some ipod software im missing?

  • FOUND A FIX FOR COMPUTER NOT RECOGNIZING IPOD!!!

I have read several threads over the past week relating to the issue of iPods not connecting to the computer. The specifics were:
    1. iPod not appearing on desktop
    2. iTunes did not recognize iPod
    3. Disk Utility and iPod updater did not register that iPod was connected
    4. THE IPOD DID CONNECT TO ANOTHER COMPUTER!!!! (I would recommend trying this if you can, if it does connect to another computer you can isolate that it is the computer not the iPod causing the problem)
I really did not want to restore my iPod or reinstall system software, but after reading a suggestion about resetting PRAM, I thought I might as well give it a try, as nothing else was working. IT WORKED!!! And it was only at the cost of resetting my computer's clock, even better!!! If this solves your problem please post here to let me know.
If you dont know how to reset your PRAM check out this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

Good call, resetting the PRAM and NVRAM did the trick for me! I got some message about a new firmware that I should install on my iPod, and then after that I got messages saying that my computer couldn't recognize my iPod, and that I needed to initialize the disk.
    Your suggestions saved me!

  • Computer not recognizing ipod after crash

My computer crashed and it was wiped clean-so basically I have a new computer. I have itunes on my computer and I was able to recover most of my music. When I plug in my ipod to the computer, itunes says it's not registered to that computer. How can I get it to work with this computer again? Right now, when ever I want to sync it, I need to completely erase everything on the ipod and resync all of my music and apps-it takes forever. Can anyone help.....please?
    Thanks!

Can't really help. The iPod thinks it is a new computer and you can only sync to one computer. If you have the backup of the iPod you may be able to restore from backup so you will not lose any data you have in apps and your settings. Restoring from backup will still result in have to sync all the music back to the iPod.

  • Itunes & Computer not recognizing Ipod

Since we purchased them in December, my wife and I both have both been using our iPod 2nd generation Nanos(2 GB)with our laptop. Suddenly today her iPod is is no longer being recognized by ITunes and the computer.
Her iPod doesnt show up in "My Computer" or the Device Manager. Since it doesnt show up in ITunes at all, I can't force a sync. My iPod is still recognized, so it is not a problem with the USB cable or the USB port.
How can I get ITunes and our computer to recognize her Ipod again-? Is there any other way besides resetting it-?
    Thanks~~

    Try looking into these articles:
iPod doesn’t show up in My Computer or in iTunes
iPod not recognized and Windows Device Mnager is empty
Also, it's possible that this is being caused by drive letter confusion. If the above articles don't seem to help, you might want to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps here:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Then, after you've done that, disconnect your iPod, and reconnect your wife's iPod to the computer, and see if it is recognized.

  • Computer will not recognise ipod when connected

This is very frustrating as i have only had my ipod nano for a week and its just won't work. I have loaded the software and everything seems fine until i connect the ipod, then the hardware is not recognised. I have tried exactly the same thing on 2 of my friends computers and it has worked fine without any problems. Therefore i think its something to do with my computer. Iv'e tried loads of tips from the apple site and suggestions but none have worked. Any other clues?

Try reading my post "Is your IPOD very slow to connect and eject and it appears to lock-up?". Although it is framed as a question, it is actually a description of a problem and solution I found yesterday.
I've already received two emails informingme that it has fixed the problem for other people.
    Hope this helps,

  • Itunes and computer does not recognize Ipod USB connection

First off, I know this has been discussed over and over, but I am not getting any difinative answers so, I will start a new post. I have a Ipod mini and have had it for some time without any problems. Recently I added new music to Itunes and wanted to transfer it to my Ipod, but when I connect the USB cable it does will light up the screen to let me know that it has been connected, but it will not update the ipod and itunes will not recognize it and only a few times has it even charged the battery. I have tried to update itunes, update ipod (which didn't do any good since it is not being recognized), restored my ipod with play/menu, tried different usb outlets, and today I am going to get my sister's cable and try it. What am I doing wrong?!?!?!? I am going crazy about this. Thanks for any other suggestions.

Finally, I got it to work again. This is what I did. I doubt this is what changed anything but I reset all of my settings back to factory settings on the Ipod as far as backlight, shuffle, ect. I don't think this is what helped, but who knows with these things. Then I plugged it into the computer and it did show that it was charging (usually it did not even recognize enough to charge). Then I tried a different USB cable from my sister's Ipod and the first thing it did was ask to update Ipod and I did (I had to to plug it in to the wall to complete update) then I plugged it back in my computer and it finally worked! My husband thought I was an idiot because I was cheering every time it recognized something until I was basically jumping up and down when everything was updated. For now everything is back to normal so I love my Ipod again. Although my sister will get my old USB cable back seeing that she dropped her Ipod in water and hers does not work at all. Which reminds me to start another post about that. Thanks for all the support.

  • ITunes and Computer freezes when ipod is connected

When I connect my video ipod to my computer (dell desktop) the system freezes, as in it will not respond to mouse clicks and keyboard (but can still get to task manager). When I unplug the ipod it comes back to life. Programs always freeze, but sometimes I am able to navigate within windows without it freezing, but as soon as a program is brought up, my computer falls to its knees.
I have the latest version of iTunes, and updater v. 1.1, (but I have not been able to update the firmware yet from v 1.0).
The odd thing is last night I was able to download several gigs worth of music to it without incident. I then tried to load movies (they were in the wrong format, but I didn't know it at the time), and so in an effort to correct that I uninstalled itunes, the ipod drivers, and the ipod updater programs several times.
I cannot update the ipod firmware because the computer freezes when the ipod is plugged in, so the program freezes as well. Kind of a catch 22 situation.
I have been over the forums and help archives for about an hour and a half now and I have come up dry.
Windows XP does recognize the ipod when the cable is connected, and the ipod flashes, "Do not disconnect", which it is supposed to do.
I suspect this is drivers/software, but I have no idea where to go from here.
    Help?

    Hey!
That EXACT thing happened to me! 2 nights ago I'm downloading like crazy, all is well. I got on LimeWire and downloaded some videos and tried to put them on my iPod. Imported them into iTunes then tried to put em on my iPod and it completely wiped out all my songs! So I get back on, put the songs back in, and about half way through the update the thing freezes. I've re-installed everything, and have reset my iPod. Did you figure out what to do? Maybe your fix will fix my problem, too.
    Thank you!

  • Computer restarts when ipod is connected urgent help needed

alright this is weird, I've had my ipod for ages and suddenly I go to plug it in and the computer slows down really really really slow and eventually just turns it self off, restarts and then sits in a black screen. if I leave the ipod plugged into the computer and restart it again it just goes straight back to the black screen, but both my ipod and computer work fine when there not connected. i have the latest version of itunes which seemed to help the first time i tried it actually started to update the ipod but then guess what the computer has another heart attack. urgent help needed please!!!

if I leave the ipod plugged into the computer and restart it again it just goes straight back to the black screen
Given this, I'd put it down to a flaky power supply in the computer. Might want to try using another computer or replacing the PSU.

  • Computer not recognizing iPod  touch

This is the second time I've run into this problem. I have a 2nd generation iPod touch 16GB. I've had it for about three months so it's relatively new. I'm trying to connect it to my mac and when I plug it in, my touch will turn on and show that it's syncing and on my computer my itunes will open. But, it hasn't been doing that. I just updated my itunes to the newest version and bought a few new albums and when I tried to load the songs onto my touch, my touch won't even connect to my computer. This is the second time that this has happened to me. I got a iPod touch in the spring and in july this problem started happening so I returned it because the 90 days hadn't passed yet. And now the same thing is happening again. 90 days have passed since I've had this iPod so I can't return it. I'm not sure what's wrong or how to go about fixing it.

Let me see if I can remember...
Hold down the Home button and then hold down the power button to power it down.
Hold down the Home button while connecting the iPod to the computer via the USB cord.
It should start up and show the iTunes icon and a picture of a USB plug on the screen. Release the Home button. At this stage iTunes opened up and said that it detected an iPod in the process of restoring. Click Restore (or Continue, or whatever it was). I was told I needed a software update, so I accepted that. It took about six minutes to download on my cable internet access. When the new software was installed iTunes tried to restore the iPod, but it was taking forever. After several minutes (five?) I got an error. I clicked OK and, leaving the iPod connected, restarted the computer.
When the computer restarted iTunes started automatically and detected the iPod. I clicked Restore again, and this time the restoration was successful. When it was done, it began synching the iPod (another long process, since I keep over 3,000 tracks on it).
I'm going from memory, so you may want to search for specific instructions on restoring an iPod Touch; but I'm pretty sure that was the sequence of events.
    Good luck!

  • Computer not recognizing Ipod and my ipod freeze

My ipod used to work quite fine, but not from today. When I plugged in my Ipod and load up my batteri, it worked as normal. Then when i unplugged my Ipod, it still says, that it is connected to the computer? I can't turn it off or start it. My computer also now tells that it can't recognize the software and my itunes can't find my Ipod either. Any suggestions to make it work again?
    Thank you

First try updating iTunes to version 7.0.2.
    Here's the iTunes download.

  • HT201274 If you erase your iPod content, would it erase the music from the iTunes on the computer which that iPod is connected with?

I'm giving away my old iPod touch so I want to restore everything, deleting all content but I also have an iPhone connected to the same iTunes account on my laptop. If I restore all music, setting, apps, etc. will it also erase all those things from my iTunes on my laptop?

No. Erasing your iPod wiol not effect iTunes on the computer.
