Computer not responding to mouse movement
For the past week my magic mouse has been getting stuck or will move crazy slow when I'm using it and is slow to respond. It will randomly loose connection. I have changed the batteries and chnages mouse pads. I switched to my husband's magic mouse and it does the same thing on my computer so now I'm thinking it's my imac's problem and not the mouse? Sometimes it works perfect but after an hour it starts acting up again. Right now I'm just using a logitech mouse and it's working fine. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Check for signal interference
Wireless networks that operate on 2.4GHz may cause interference.
Move cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other 2.4GHz electrical devices away from the Mac if you suspect interference.
Keep wireless devices within 10 meters (33 feet) of the Mac.
Avoid putting metal objects between the device and the Mac.

Dock & Menu-bar stop responding to mouse move
Hello!
I've been having a strange problem for quite some time now. After some time of working on my mac the dock and all the menus (including the menu bar on the top of the screen) stop responding to mouse move. At the same moment also my "hot-corners" stop working. For example when I move my mouse over the dock the magnification does not happen and when I run my mouse over the menus they don't highlight. When I move the mouse to a hot corner which was attached to Expose or ScreenSaver start nothing happens there either. Whole system acts really unpredictable.
I tried killing Finder, changing resolution when this happened,... Nothing helps but a reboot, but rebooting machine so frequently is driving me a bit nuts.
Please, help!
Other details: OSX 10.5.6 (this has been happening from the start - through all versions), MacbookPro
Thanks in advance.
Y.Ran Disk Utility off the DVD and repaired permissions and repaired the disk. Problems were found in both although, they appeared minimal. Despite that, the same issues where present when I woke it up from Sleep mode in the morning.
Whenever I hovered my mouse over the menu bar, the cursor would turn into the spinning beachball. The dock didn't freeze as it had done every time before, but if I clicked on an application it would become highlighted and stay that way without it actually opening. The opening animation never took place either.
Until some fix comes out, my next step will be checking to see what software I last updated before the problem started a few days ago and seeing if I can roll back. -
I have Win 7 64bit and the computer "not responding" often.
The event logs show that Bonjour is the biggest problem in system failures and the computer Not Responding. Is there a fix for Bonjour or is there a way to run itunes without it?
If itunes is not compatible for windows 7 Does apple have something else to use for media?Hello AEC396
It sounds like you are trying to burn a playlist to a disc in iTunes, but you are getting an errorabout missing drivers. I found a couple of resources that I think might help with an error like this.
I recommend starting with the steps in this article:
iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308
If you are still having trouble with burning a disc after following the steps in that article, I recommend following the steps in this article:
iTunes for Windows: Additional troubleshooting tips for burning issues

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Computer not responding anymore when accessing shared files (systemd)
Hi,
i upgraded my arch system which now uses systemd. An error appears when trying to access shared from vmware. It results in an no more responding arch Linux.
Mounting is done via
mount -t vmhgfs .host:/ /mnt/hgfs/
which gives the note that
Could not add entry to mtab, continuing"
I could afterwards continue. When changing to the directory e.g. trying do list the files the computer stops responding.
dmesg
gives the following errors..

Computer not responding to video invitation
I have just purchased an iSight, am on a wireless broadband connection, and the camera works fine for preview on iChat.
However when I am invited or invite another iChat user with iSight for video or audio chat, my screen says it is "starting" the video or audio chat, but then says my computer is not responding. The other iChat users are successfully using their iSight cameras to video chat with each other.
I've gone through all the troubleshooting tips.
Any suggestions for why my computer is not responding? Is there an email address or phone number where I can communicate directly with support for iSight?Hello ilovemac. If BriarCroft does not respond, or if his response does not help you, does your iSight work with other apps? (How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional) If so, your problem is with iChat AV rather than with iSight.
If your iSight does not work, contact the retailer who sold your your new iMac regarding warranty coverage.
If your problem is not with your iSight, both parties to this (or any other troublesome) chat should test with more than one other user to determine which end of the connection is causing your symptoms. If you do not have enough available buddies for testing, you can find more Buddy Names for iChat Test here.
If you cannot solve the problem after you have identified the problem system(s?), I suggest you start your own thread in the appropriate iChat AV Discussions so your problem gets specific, individual attention that is not commingled with someone else's similar problem.
To get the best help, please post back as much as possible of the information requested in When do I Post a New iChat Topic? for the system that is having problems, starting about half way down the page.
By my count, the list requests 20 items of information. (You may even find the problem in the process of gathering that info.) Also post the actions you have already tried to avoid getting the same recommendations that you already know do not work.
If both of you have problems, provide the info for both systems in the same thread.
If you have not already tried these suggestions, and if you want to exhaust all possibilities before posting in iChat AV Discussions, consider the relevant suggestions from Using iSight with iChat AV.
Your daughter can also include the suggestions from Help for iChat AV 3 Problems that are relevant to her Tiger (OS X 10.4.4) iMac. -
Firefox 3.6.11 does not respond on mouse, only Tab key and space bar
HW: Lenovo R61i.
OS: MS Win-XP PRO, ver 20002, SP3
Internet Explorer is diabled in:
Contol Panal|add/remove programs|add/remove windows components
All other programs responds om USB mouse or the little joy-stick between G, H and B-keys.
Removed FF, booted and reinstalled FF 3.6.11.
Mouse works a couple of cliks - then Tab key and Space bar is the only tool.
By the way - living in Norway, means No version og FF :)Getting very tired of this problem which is becoming much more frequent. I love the FF browser, but lately after I have been on line for a while, the browser stops responding to mouse clicks and I have to use the task manager to shut the program down and then reopen it to get it to work. From what I've been reading in the forums, this is not an uncommon problem. I've done all the recommended fixes and nothing works. Please fix this!!

Computer not responding after PR8 opens
Hello, my source files are from a Panasonic HD camera, I am running Adobe Premiere Elements 8, my laptop specs are
I have a Dell laptop Intel (R)Core (TM) 2 cpu, T7600@ 2.33 GHz, RAM 2.00 GB
OS: Windows Vista
Version: Adobe Premiere 8
I open the project and about 30 to 40 little icons show up on my bottom right hand tool bar, ffdshow audio decoder and ffdshow video decoder. This has not happened on previous projects. When I try and do some work the screen fades and it is hung up and will not respond. It gives me a message when I first open the project that my system memory is low, but I still have 34 GB's of 110 GB's space left
Any ideas
Thanks for your help
AllanAre you saying that the program does completely open or it doesn't?
If the program opens, it could be that your AVCHD video files are slowing it down (since you've got a pretty marginal machine for editing AVCHD). Though I can't say for sure because I don't know what model of camcorder you're using and which video format it shoots in.
I'm also not sure what you mean when you say "30 to 40 little icons show up on my bottom right hand tool bar". Can you post a screen shot of this so we can see it? -
Computer not responding during migration assist
I bought a 27" iMac and have been trying to use migration assist to transfer my files and settings over from my 17" MacBook Pro with little success. The iMac recognizes the MacBook and the confirmation code pops up on both but once the migration begins, the iMac has a message pop up that says the MacBook is not responding, even though it has a message saying that the iMac is ready.
I've tried searching other posts here but can't seem to find any with the same issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.Well, I was following the instructions as they were presented on the screen. As I mentioned, things seemed to progress normally, the two computers seemed to be communicating but then the message that the MBP was not responding would pop up and I would be forced to quit the migration.
I had tried both FW 800 and ethernet connections to no avail. After updating the iMac, I am running Mountain Lion on both machines and had consulted Pondini's guide prior to posting here. I also opened up all the sharing options I could find on both computers thinking that would help. I'll take a closer look at Pondini's guide and see if that provides some answers.
Thanks. -
Hi,
I have an iMac from 2007 operating on Leopard. I've been having trouble with applications freezing, but this morning after being in Safari, everything just froze. I couldn't go to a new web page, I couldn't quit Safari. I can move the arrow, but when I try to select an app from the dock, nothing happens. I can't open anything on the computer, I can't shut down unless I cut the power.
The clock is running, my Skype window opened automatically, and the cursor is blinking in the search box there. I can type in the Skype search box, but there is no response when I hit return.
I am currently on my daughter's laptop since I can't get my desktop to respond at all.
Thanks for any help!First, press COMMAND-OPTION-ESC to see if the task manager will open. If not then you will have to do a forced shutdown by pressing the power button and holding it down until the computer shuts down. Wait about 30 seconds to allow the hard drive to spin down fully, then do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
You may be fine after this, but if you continue having a problem let us know what that is. -
IMac mid 2010 not responding to mouse clicks for mac software
I have a mid 2010 iMac 16 gb ram running 10.10.2. My problem started a wk ago when the iMac wouldn't respond to the track pad's click. I did change the trackpad which did not help. I also noted that this behavior was mostly w/ Mac software (with the obvious exception of safari.) I can not retrieve email w/ the mail.app. Can not use pages to finish work that needs done. I can open programs but once opened can't navigate. I can scroll but mouse clicks either B/T or USB fail. I have restarted in SAFE mode - no joy - I ran disk warrior - told me all was just fine. I rest the SMC nothing.
My hobby is photography and I use (and have been using) Photoshop 2014 (PS), Lightroom-5 (LR_5) w/o problemsI've pasted a report from Etrecheck (nice - helpful app).

Mail does not respond to mouse clicks properly
This bug in Mail started in Lion, and has continued (or possibly worsened in some instances) in Mountain Lion. Has anybody heard of a fix?
Basically Mail acts like it is freezing, but in fact is not handling mouse clicks properly.
1) If Mail is "behind" another active app window, clicking in the content area of the Mail window will not activate the window until you click a SECOND time.
2) Once you get Mail to respond by clicking it the second time, if you click back and forth between it and the window in front (e.g. between safari and mail, the clicks DO register, but Mail acts as if the click position is offset from where you actually click. The offset seems to vary and I haven't found a consistent link between the offset and where I click in mail or the other window, or the relative positions of the two windows.
3) When you try the 2) trick on elements that can scroll, you realise that as well as an offset, Mail is trying to "drag" instead of respond to a click, so the list of mail folders pulls and bounces back, or the list of mail scrolls, or sometimes if everything lines up, an image of an envelope appears and moves as if you are trying to drag an email from one place to another.
4) Clicking on the title/button/toolbar of Mail ALWAYS brings it to the front...
5) If you bring Mail to the front by repeatedly clicking on the content area (and yes, sometimes it takes more than one click...) and as the FIRST thing you do after activating the window, click one of the buttons in the toolbar (e.g. the trash or delete button), it will depress, and stay down, as if you have done a "press and hold" instead of a "click". Clicking on the button again will complete the action, but clicking elsewhere in the title bar will release the button and the action will not occur, just as if you had held the mouse button down and dragged off the button before releasing, which is appropriate behaviour IF you had held the mouse button down in the first place...
6) If you activate Mail by clicking in the content area, then clicking a second time in the content area, then continue to single click around the content, it behaves as if it is one step behind you, responding as if the LAST click is the click you just made. Interestingly the "button down state" seems to persist, because for instance clicking on a succession of emails will highlight each email in turn, but the content of the email on the right will not update with each click, only updating when you "break out of the cycle" with a double click or a title bar click.
These are all REPRODUCIBLE, even after a restart.
They ONLY happen in Mail.
I have tried mouse, track pad, turning off bluetooth, so I don't think these things are related.
SO...
I THINK that MAIL, since Lion, has an issue with its event handler, where MouseUp events are either lost or mishandled, so that clicks are being registered as drags, or the "button down" state is not updated or something...
With the above description I feel the Mail programming team should be able to track down the bug in minutes and fix it.
Apple - feel free to get in contact with me and I will let you access my machine via remote desktop or teamviewer or something to see the bug in action.
It is time to fix this annoying behaviour.

Worked out that 2 and 6 are related - the offset isn't an offset at all - it is the thing you last clicked on!Okay, I tried deleting the Finder preferences first (along with a handful of other preference files that I knew were no longer needed), and it seemed to help--at first. But eventually, all the same problems started happening again, so I concluded that it was necessary to just start with a fresh (empty) preferences folder. As you know, this is a pain to deal with, but I limited my pain by moving all the old preferences files into a folder on the Desktop rather than simply deleting them. That way, I could just put back any missing preferences that were too hard to recreate. Restoring all of my preferences with new (uncorrupted) prefs files will be an ongoing process, but the good news is that this effort (so far) seems to have solved the problem. Mail is responding to all my clicks, even when I switch between different apps and different spaces. :-)
Now that things are working correctly, I notice that when I switch between apps and/or spaces, the selected app (or the frontmost app in the new space) will show an active state for its window, whereas before, the selected app didn't update to show that it was active--it kept the inactive state for its window. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that this might have something to do with the windowserver process, so it might make sense for the next person who stumbles on this thread to start by deleting any preferences files that begin with com.apple.windowserver. Just a hunch, but it's worth starting there before you do a complete flush of all your preferences.
Thanks again for the help--hopefully this workaround will be persistent. Fingers crossed! -
Web hosting on home computer not responding (sometimes)
Using iWeb I published my personal website to my home computer, an iMac with i3 processor. Sometimes it works fine, but other times the website fails to open' because the server where this page is located isn’t responding,' I figure this is probably because the computer is sleeping at the time, even though I set the Energy Saver in Preferences to 'Wake for Network Access'. Is this an inherent problem with web hosting on a personal computer, or a fixable problem? Hosting on one's own computer seems like a great idea, no size limits, no ads on 'free' hosting sites, but this is a drag.
You're using "client think" and not "server think".
Servers do not sleep.
Technically, various servers can and do power down some system components, but web-facing servers are almost never configured to go into a low-power sleep state.
Most servers aren't usually receiving nor expecting a WoL packet from remote (off-LAN) clients, nor should there be a way for a remote client to explicitly send a WoL to a server that's configured for WoL.
Yes, you can see server farms using WoL within the farm, but that's typically in response to an increase in server load and the actions of internal server and network processing. If the load is spiking, toss a few WoL packets and spool up another server or two. And you can and usually do see solutions akin to the Xserve Lights-Out Management (LOM) board or an HP iLO management processor, and where the server is shut down, but the management processor remains awake and active.
And I would disagree with the degree of certainty expressed by etresoft here. There can be reasons to run local servers. Yes, that's not typical, and yes, there can be good deals with hosted services, and yes, the connections can be bandwidth-limited. But there can be reasons for some individuals and organizations to host locally. -
Fan randomly running loud + computer not responding
I have been facing a problem for the last several weeks on my PowerMac G5 that technicians have not been able to solve either.
The computer randomly stops responding and the fans start accelerating slowly until they reach their top speed and then stay at that speed for indefinite periods of time. I cannot see any pattern in this - it happens both when the computer is running some process and when it is idle.
Each time this happens, the only option for me is to do a hard powerdown (hold down the power button).
I saw another question about fans running at high speed, but that case, it seemed as if the computer continued to respond.
Any help on this would be appreciated.I am having the same problem.
Now before you start taking advice to back up all your data, reformat your hard drive, and reinstall all the software; please take note of a few things:
first off, I'm disappointed/frustrated/melancholy that this is happening to me. I spend $5000+ for a "reliable" Apple computer. Then it doesn't want to turn on because its not safe. Sorry if I drown this post with bitter sarcasm but I am coming to the end of the line with my patience.
I called Apple Care, read a bunch of posts (here and elsewhere), and yes I do know about the SMU Reset button (like that really does anything?).
My problem happened a few weeks ago and I thought nothing of it at first. There was a power outage for a quick second and it turned everything off. When I went to turn on my computer, there was no chime, the red light was on, and the fans were running and eventually began running very loud. After letting it run like that in hopes of the screen lighting up, I turned it off by holding the power button. By the way, there's nothing on the screen and the keyboard doesn't work (I use a wireless keyboard, but I plugged in the OG cord keyboard to push whatever series of buttons recommended by these "geniuses") Trust me, the computer doesn't make it to that part of the boot process, so stop with commandoption+PR or F12 to get the CD out. It doesn't work! What's up with this computer! It can handle all these intense calculations, etc. but a power surge is going to shut it down indefinitely.
So I left the computer came back the next day, turned it on and its fine. Cool, I'm happy. It's Working!! I go on a few weeks, then I go to turn it on this Monday, same problem. But actually a worse situation. I had a client come over and the computer wouldn't work. I looked like a idiot. Couldn't do anything cause my computer didn't want to turn on. I do music production/editing. I use my G5 for running ProTools LE. I have other programs but that is the main one I use. There's nothing wrong with it. It's optimized for use with the mac. So those people who are going to advise me to uninstall all my software and all that - I appreciate your concern but don't give advice when you don't know anything!
So I am getting frustrated. My client left a little disappointed, but what can you do? I tried to call AppleCare on Mon. but it was Memorial Day. So I waited for Tues.
Tues morning, my computer turns on like everything is fine.
I'm happy but cautious. I talk to AppleCare rep. He tells me that it is a common problem they have heard about with the G5's. Wherever blackouts, brownouts, spikes, sags, dips, and other electricity inconsistencies occur, the Power Mac G5 has a breaker in it which flips so it doesn't receive uneven power supply and damage internal components.
I like that feature. Good thinking Apple. Protecting my investment from bad electrical grids. But I don't like the fact my computer has a mind of its own where it decides when it wants to boot or when it wants to sit there and run its fans all loud.
I shut down Tues morn to go to work. I come back in the evening, it doesn't want to boot up. Instead of getting angry trying a bunch of times to turn on/turn off the computer, I leave my house all together and go and have a few drinks. I come home ,don't even look at my computer, and go to bed.
I wake up Wed. morning. Go to turn on my computer. Successful boot. It's running. Okay, I think, I'm going to get down to the problem. I read all the logs, not like I know every piece of info, but just to see what's happening. Everything looks fine. I decide to run the AppleCare CD Tech Tool. It says restart holding down C. I do that. When the gray Apple Logo comes up, all this writing about kernals comes up and it tells me to restart or shutdown. I shutdown and attempt to restart, same problem: no chime, red light on, and fans eventually spin loud. Now the CD is stuck in there. I'm going to take it to the Apple Store tomorrow to if these "geniuses" can figure it out.
(Just a side note: Apple calls them geniuses, but its hard for me to think some disconnected college kid with a bad haircut and questionable social skills knows what's up with the power supply issues of a computer; maybe I'm wrong, but you can run your diagnostics and look at the chart of what to do and all that BUT Apple needs to listen to the people)
I am going to get a UPS (uninteruptable power supply) with a clean sine wave output to curb the issue at my end. It's not my fault I live in a area that receives uneven power output. I live in Los Angeles. Summer is starting up and I think its going to be hot, so blackouts, power dips and sags are inevitable. I just don't understand why Apple hasn't considered this problem and fixed it with something:
A recall to change the power supply, Is it something on the logic board?, are they going to reimburse me for lost income (Ha, yeah right)
I really want to know how many people are having this problem?
From what I've heard, it is a common problem.
So I think we need a common solution.
If its so common, it must be the computer. We are all going to live in different areas where the power may vary. Not all of us have the consistent power flow of 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, CA. So if it is such a common problem, Apple needs to fix it.
I can't spend more than five grand on a super duper computer and have it wuss out on some power issues.
Its a loss of income and productivity to me.
I can't have that anymore.
Sometimes my computer turns on, sometimes it doesn't.
I bought my PowerMac G5 in April 2006, its been about a month and a half and I'm having these problems.
Thank you for your time.
If anyone else has been having this problem, I feel for you.
It was been very difficult for me not to curse in this post, but I have tried to extend the same respect to all that use these discussion boards to create dialogue, find help, and create solutions.
LETS FIX IT!
Peace,

Black monitor computer not responding
My computer will not turn on it bings like it is but the monitor stays black and the mouse or track pad also do not work but for a second. I checked the cord and it is ok and I replaced batteries in track pad and mouse and still nothing
First, try resetting the PRAM > Resetting the PRAM
If that doesn't help, reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Hi everybody, Please can any FotoMagico user tell me what export presets they use in FotoMagico for use in FCP. I currently have FotoMagico Express edition and use the export to DVD preset. However, when importing to FCP the quality is really poor. I
