Computer not starting up after updates

I updated the software on my computer and restarted the computer. When it came back up it said i needed to shut down my computer for the firmware and when i was turning it on, i should hold the power button until it flashed. I did this and the computer will not turn on. I don't have a clue as to what happened and any advice would be great.

  • New Macbook Pro does not start up after updating...HELP!!!

    Hi,
My new Macbook Pro does not start up after it got updated. The first time I used it, it was perfect. I updated it and restarted it when it told me to but it doesn't boot. It shows an apple and a spinning circle when it turns on but that's it.
    Can somebody please help me?

You should probably post your question in the MacBook Pro discussions:

  • Not starting up after updates

I just got a G3 iBook 500Mhz 384Mb off ebay, OS10.4.9, which worked fine. So I decided to install some of the available software updates, instead of just letting it be! A couple of iphoto updates, keynote, iweb, java, final cut, etc, went in fine until the 10.4.11 update which would not complete - got to 12% or something and then said an error was detected so it stopped. I stopped doing updates, my boy played an internet game for a wee while, then shut down. Now it won't startup - I get a tone, the spinning gear for 20secs or so, then the blue screen with the white box saying Mac OS X and an empty progress bar, and a while later the spinning beachball appears, to be with me for a few hours. Nothing else. Some suggestions please? (I also have a MacBook Pro, with 10.4.11, if that might be helpful, and while I'm not experienced at computers, I'm quite prepared to try things.
    Many Thanks.

    Oh.
Ah well. I'll get back to the seller - again. He earlier suggested 1. resetting the P-RAM, 2. resetting the open firmware, 3. safe boot. None of these worked. He then suggested booting from the disc(pirated) and reinstalling. This worked to an extent, but this morning it would not start up again - but it did get as far as the login, then after logging in it went to a background, with an arrow pointer, and no further (I did leave it for over an hour), while last night it did get past that point(slowly) and worked ok.
So, now I'm trying to reinstall again ( a smaller custom install) then I'll delete the most recent previous system folder, and some other apps that came with it (pirated too!!?)
I guess I may (should) buy a retail copy.
Why didn't I just leave it alone???
    Any other advice?
    Regards
    Roger

  • Lightroom not starting up after updating to CC (2015)

Adobe CC updated my Lightroom CC (2014) to CC (2015)  Now Lightroom will not start.  I have uninstalled, rebooted, installed again and still does not start up.

Tstoikka did you utilize the uninstall process documented in Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html to remove your current installation of Photoshop Lightroom?  Are you able to install other Adobe Creative applications successfully?

  • Slim does not start lxde after updating

    Hi!
After updating the other night I cannot log in to lxde anymore. Slim gives me
    Failed to execute login command
I read my way through the internet for similar threats and problems. I already checked whether my slim.conf is ok. I checked whether X is running ok. And Im not sure if it is.
    I did
    grep -e "2012-09-19" /var/log/pacman.log
to see what was updated. And it was xf86-video-intel and tzdata and the kernel.
Im running arch on a eeepc 701 with intel graphics. I have Slim and lxde. I can ssh onto the machine from outside.
If I take slim from the deamons in
    /etc/rc.conf
    I can
    startx
but I only get a black screen on tty7 and on tty1 I get
    No protocol specified
. And after some time I get
    xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Resource temporarily unavailable
waitiing for Xserver to shut down Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.
    xinit: server error
I noticed that I didnt have "i915" in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, so I added that and built iniramfs. But that didnt help the issue.
Maybe anyone cand help me out here?
    Thanks for your time!

It definitely sounds like something went wrong with your video update.  Can you downgrade to confirm that is the problem?  If so, my next thought would be to remove the recently downloaded version from your package cache  and re-upgrade.
If downgrading doesn't help, then perhaps my assumption is wrong, then full Xorg logs would be useful. Actually, they'd be useful in either case ... so can you post those (or pastebin them and link to it).

  • Mac book not starting up after update

after installing the latest update on Mountain Lion my Retina MBP dies after trying to boot. any help would be great.

Hopefully you have a backup. Your hard drive may be failing. I'd try a few things:
if you have any peripherals, like mice or keyboards, unplug them and try again.
try a SMC reset Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
a safe boot Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
boot to your recovery partition and repair your hard drive and permissions When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies
if that doesn't work, try internet recovery OS X: About OS X Recovery
if you can get your computer booted in one of the recovery modes, but it can't be repaired successfully enough to start into the regular boot partition, you may need to erase the drive and start over with a clean installation.
You might be able to get your hard drive to mount in target mode on another mac, which would let you back up any files that you want to save on the drive:  OS X Mountain Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
if you can't get any of this to work, then the drive quite possibly is failing, and should be replaced.

  • Apple TV not starting anymore after update

My Apple TV is set on applying updates automatically. When I started it yesterday it showed a message that an update had failed and encouraged me to perform the update manually. I did so in the settings and everything looked normal. The updated was first downloaded and then the installation performed however at the end of this task the Apple TV shut down and now I cannot start it at all anymore. Holding down Menu and Down on the Apple Remote for six seconds does not work either.

If you really want to restore your system [this link|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61802|How to restore your Apple software] might be of some help... It boils down to this:
*Restore Mac OS X and all bundled applications without erasing the Mac OS X volume*
    1. Back up your essential files. This is a wise precaution even though you won't be erasing the volume.
    2. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that shipped with your computer.
    3. Double-click "Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software."
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall all software.

  • E65 not start-up after updated new firmware

    Hi,
Yesterday I conected to PC suite and updated firmware from 2.0.... to 3.0... > Everything went through smoothly. After I restored all information from back up files of PC suite, then I could not use my phone any more. Everytime I try to restart my phone, the message " Phone start-up failed. Contact to retailer "
Could any one help me to make my phone back to work, please ? Thanks a lotttttt

Try the "3 finger deep reset" which is depress these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone whilst keeping those same three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.
This should ONLY be done if the device doesn't power up normally anymore and it wipes everything in the Phone memory that is not part of the ROM.
You will need to restore your data after this.

The operating system disc can only at minimum fix normal directory damage. Extensive damage requires more sophisticated utilities. From the sounds of it, your data isn't backed up, so I really recommend you pursue the course of getting an external hard drive at least bigger than your internal drive, partitioning it, and installing an operating system and data recovery tool on it's first partition, and making its second partition at least as large as your internal drive, and recovering to the second partition your data. This will at least let you try more extensive tools on your machine to get it back to normal, in event the issue isn't hardware related. But since it is impossible to determine the difference between a hardware or software issue, unless the machine actually boots and shows all data, a data recovery program & external hard drive are the tools I recommend getting. If you read my aforementioned backup FAQ, it explains this.

  • My battery is not being charged through charger actually it is being charged but really very slow and computer not recognising device after update to ios 6

my phone battery is not being charged through the laptop or when it is switched off the phone is being charged and after its on it does not show charging icon but charges at a real slow speed pls help as facing this froblemm since ios6 update

    Hello,
I wrote on another tread with same subject about month or two ago and until now, no one replied. I had the same problem. Today, I was at the friend who has HP laptop. We tried to solve the problem and tried it as follows:
    1. My battery in my laptop with my charger - not charging (appears in windows battery charging but all the times it remains at 90 %).
    2. His battery in his laptop with his charger - everything is working fine (this is just for the records)
    3. My laptop, his battery his charger - everything is fine.
    4. His laptop, my battery and his charger - everything is working fine
    5. My laptop, my battery and his charger - everything is OK.
I didn't try putting my charger in his laptop with his battery inside. But from above, it seams that something is wrong with the charger. Does anyone have some explanation? This is totally weird problem. Is there any logic in the charger that can prevent somehow battery charging? I am waiting another friend to bring his laptop and charger to assure that everything is OK with my motherboard and battery ( after all, charger is the cheapest, isn't it?) Since I'm electrical engineer, i would like to hear some explanation for this problem.

  • ITunes not starting up after update, errors showing

I recently received an updated iTunes and I'm getting two errors from previous issues.
I have tried every single step with uninstalling, then reinstalling the program. As well as removing a previous issue that has happened before to no avail.
Can this issue be fixed with the updates?
I'm on Windows XP without a iPod Touch

    ok THANKS so much!!
    it now works!!
First I removed iTunes.app from my system using these instructions: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/uninstall-itunes/
Next I opened the App Store and it showed me iTunes under "Updates".
I reinstalled iTunes via the App Store and now I can launch iTunes as expected.
Because I didn't delete the iTunes folder inside my user's folder, all my content remained.
    thanks  to you :

Same thing happens when i click restart.
No difference when i run it in Safe mode. And it won't let me create a new profile either. Is there anyway else i can extract my bookmarks? This is driving me crazy!

Did the crash reporter send any crash reports?<br />
You can see the crash reports in this folder:
    "C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports"
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Breakpad
See also [[Firefox crashes when you open it]]
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br /><br />
    See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]<br /><br />
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"<br /><br />
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br /><br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox<br /><br />
If that still causes the same problem then do a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • My ipad will not power on after update. I have tried connecting to computer which doesn't recognize it. I have pushed top and circle buttons at same time. It had a battery charge before it died.  I tried to stop the upload and am afraid it 'crashed'

My first genteration ipad will not power on after update. I have tried connecting to the authorized computer which won't recognize it - does not acknowledge a device is plugged in. I have pushed top and circle buttons at same time. It had a battery charge before it died.  I tried to stop the upload midway and am afraid it 'crashed'

Try putting it into recovery mode.
Connect iPad to your computer via USB while it's turned on.
    Open iTunes
Hold the iPad's Sleep/Wake switch (power button on the top of the iPad) down until the "power off" slider appears.
Power off the iPad completely (wait for the progress spinner to disappear).
Hold the Sleep/Wake switch AND the Home button down for a full 10 seconds.
After 10 seconds (the second time you'll see the Apple logo on the screen) release the Sleep/Wake switch while still holding the Home button.
Continue to hold the Home button for another 10 seconds until the USB connection image appears on the iPad's screen, then release the Home button.
A pop-up message will appear on iTunes saying it has detected an iPad in recovery mode, you must restore...
Click on the "Restore" button and the process will begin.

  • Siri not taking request after updating.

Siri not taking request after updating to iOS7.It is now 4 days, siri is still not taking requests. Tried all the suggestions discussed, no luck yet. Is there a way to check wether the problem is from my wi-fi settings? But siri was working fine before the update. When this is going to be fixed?

    Fix:
After trying the entire trouble shoot discussed, I finally could fix siri not taking request issue after iOS7 update. This is what I did; I just changed my wi-fi network and connected my device to another wi-fi network (my friend’s) where siri is working without any issue. My siri started taking request in the new wi-fi network and also in my network after changing back. I am not a computer geek, but hope this might help. Just try to change the wi-fi network.

  • MBP Fails to Start Up after Update

I recently applied an update to the iLife '11 Suite through the Mac App Store.  (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband) When I restarted the computer after the update, instead of starting up normally, there is now a progress bar that appears for a few seconds below the Apple logo on the white screen after the chime. After the progress bar disappears, there is just a spinning circle and the Apple logo on a white screen. Why is my computer not starting up properly after this update? Thanks.

As to cost - it all depends on whether you want to do-it-yourself or have Apple do it or an AASP tackle it. It's very easy to replace yourself - there on hundreds of YouTube videos on how to replace hard drives. To get an idea of the cost, look at the internal drives at Crucial and OWC - you'll also need a Phillips #00 and Torx T6 screwdrivers. There are even videos on OWC that take you through the relatively easy step-by-step procedure.
I would just stay away from Western Digital drives: personally, I like Seagate, as they've given me no problems over the decades.
Good luck, call back if you need any more information...
