Computer not turning on

Hello,
I have a question. I don't know what is wrong with my computer. I was using it, and all of a sudden, all the applications started to crash. I would not let me force quit for a very long time. When it did let me force quit, I managed to turn my computer off. Now, it won't let me bootup. All I have is a grey screen with the apple emblem, and a spinning wheel. I tried to reinstall the software, but it will not let me. I tried running a diagnostic disc, but it wouldn't let me do that neither. I took my computer into the Genius Bar about a month ago, and they said that it was fine. I told them that I thought that the hard drive was going, or the fan/ pram was not working correctly. They said that both were okay. Can someone please help me? Also, I'm a boluda, and put Apple's 24hr. help number for the US on my computer. Can someone please tell me it (it's not sos-apple or my-apple, it's another number) ?
Thanks,
Laureen

Click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page on the right. All Apple's contact numbers are listed.
You startup volume is corrupted. I can't tell you if it's the hard drive or not. You will need the OS X Installer Disc for the current version of OS X installed on the computer. Since you have two computers and didn't mention which one has the problem I don't know which OS X discs you need to use. If it's your MacBook then you need the original discs that came with the computer.
You should insert the installer disc into the optical drive and restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the "C" key until the spinning gear appears below the dark gray Apple logo. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Once you get to the screen where you select a destination drive select your hard drive then click on the Options button. Select the Erase and Install option and click on the OK button. Proceed to complete the installation.

  • Computer Not Turning On w/ Power Chord

My G4 went to sleep w/o warning (the same issue as this thread post?!?!) and now WILL NOT WAKE UP?! (yes I am aware of this "defect" via other posts).
    Any idea why?
Here's what I tried to troubleshoot:
    1. A diff power chord
    2. Taking battery out and restarting w/ power chord only
    3. Taking battery out and replacing, using w/ and w/o power chord
Now I'm pretty sure my battery life was about 40% when it went to sleep - which suggests that maybe my battery is at the end of it's life ... however if that were true, it is NOT turning on with the powerchords (2) that I tried. Help!!!
Let me know ... I have a mac account "holubc" if you want to email me (or cc: me) directly, thanks! --- chris

Chris-Can't be sure it's the same thing with that information. But, to recover from the unwaking sleep mode first unplug from the power chord. Take out your battery. Wait until the pulsing sleep indicator light turns off. Now put your battery back in and plug in your power chord and start up. That should work (if not, you have bigger issues). You'll need to check your log for the overtemp warning to see if you have the narcoleptic Powerbook problem.
To everyone else, here are a couple of points to keep in mind (based on my experience and research).
    1. If you see the overtemp message in your log you have this problem. If not, it's another issue.
    2. Things that won't solve it: A new battery, a new motherboard, software re-install, OS upgrade (it doesn't matter what OS X version) hard drive wipe.
    3. The solution: new trackpad sensor (i.e. new topcase, since they are integrated)
    4. Suggestions if you don't have warranty or AppleCare coverage: Keep hounding Apple (they are among the best in service). Provide documentation of your system log error as well as what you have found from these discussions. Be persistant. Insist on talking to someone at the next "tier" of support. Apple may not issue a huge recall or similar that covera all who call with the problem, but with determination you can get them to see it is common issue they need to take care of for free. Insist on it.
    4. Suggestions if you have warranty or AppleCare coverage: Get your top case replaced. That's it.

  • Computer not turning off

I have a friends old Tiny brand computer with a Micro Star MS-6340 Ver 1.0 mainboard in it
For some reason the computer will not turn off after windows shuts down, also then computer turns on when the mains socket switch is pushed down and not when pressing the on/ off switch on the front of the case.
Thinking it may the wiring on the switch at fault i dissconected the case wires from the on/off switch and the mainboard but the computer still powers up when the main switch is turned on!!
Any help on this problem would be much appreciated.  Thanks

This line confused me, which part are you talking about?
In regards to the power up with the switch when the power switch is disconnected from the mainboard are you sure it is disconnected and you didn't disconnect something else?
As for the not shutting down this is probably a windows problem with the APCI.  I usually resolve it with a reinstall of windows since it is usually due by the time this happens.

  • How can I make my computer not turn off (sleep mode, or hybernate)? While plugged into the wall.

I have two dogs, and i am trying to see which one is tearing up my couch while im away by recording via my built in camera and "iMovie". But after a few times trying, I relised that my computer "sleeps" or "hybernates" after only a half an hour. It is plugged in, and i went to System Prefrences > energy saver > then clicked on power adapter and moved both "computer sleep and display sleep" to never. turned off my screen saver. and still having issues with this. Am i missing somthing?
    Tony

Thank you Courcoul, i appericate your help. but if you would have read my whole description, you would have noticed i already tried that. "It is plugged in, and i went to System Prefrences > energy saver > then clicked on power adapter and moved both "computer sleep and display sleep" to never." i also did check the schedule times, and it is off, both wake up times, and sleep times.

There is a hardware problem.  Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.

  • Using Outlook 2007 I want to receive emails on my iPhone 4 only when Outlook is NOT open on my computer, as when away from home or want to quickly check email when computer is not turned on. Either ALL emails come to my iPhone or none at all.

Using Outlook 2007 I want to receive emails on my iPhone 4 only when Outlook is NOT open on my computer, as when away from home or want to quickly check email when computer is not turned on. Either ALL emails come to my iPhone or none at all. Is the setting I need to change in Outlook or on the iPhone or is it somewhere else?  I used to have this setting but transferring Outlook to a new laptop somehow turned it off.

No. You really can't do that. Not easily at any rate. You would have to set them both up to use POP3, but even then there is no way to guarantee that the phone won't poll the server prior to your computer doing so, pulling down the message from the server.

  • My iPhone 4s is stuck on a black screen that shows a USB cable connecting to iTunes. The phone will not turn on and the iTunes logo as I described only shows up when I plug the phone into the charger or my computer. I have tried the reset in restore mode

My iPhone 4s is stuck on a black screen that shows a USB cable connecting to iTunes. The phone will not turn on and the iTunes logo as I described only shows up when I plug the phone into the charger or my computer. I have tried the reset in restore mode as well as the DFU? mode and it still will not work. I have the latest version of iTunes on my Mac. My error code was 2002. I also tried it on my laptop (windows 8.1) and none of the above worked. My error code on my laptop was 02. The phone is through Verizon and it has absolutely no damage. It was working fine up until this and I have been trying to fix it for 2 days. Please help! I am unsure of what version the phone was currently running on before this because I have another iphone that's my primary phone and have not used this one in about a month. I do not believe it was updated to IOS 7.

Your iPhone is in recoverty mode at the moment so to possibly get it back up and running you would need to do a restore as you have been trying. Follow the steps in the article below for the specific error messages you have been receiving. If after following all steps the issue remains book an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone evaluated.

  • My iPhone 3gs will not turn on, charge, or allow me to perform a hard reset. iTunes nor my computer recognizes it andthe screen wont light up at all. What can I do to fix this?

I have an iPhone 3gs that is out of warranty. I purchased this phone from AT&T. Last night my phoone went completely dead (battery percentage was at 96% just moments before) and now will not turn back on. I have tried just about everything I have found on discussion boards- trying hard reset, plugging into itunes, charging for15-20 mins then holding down sleep and homebuton..... NOTHING works. This phone will not light up AT ALL. My computer wont even recognize it. Is there anything else I can do?

Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • My iPhone will not turn on, when I plug it into my computer and load up iTunes its in recovery mode and the only option is to restore my device to factory settings. I have no back up of my phone I've also tried the home/sleep button thing but nothing

My iPhone 4 will not turn on, when I plug it into my computer and load up iTunes its in recovery mode and the only option is to restore my device to factory settings, I have no back up of my phone I've also tried the home/sleep button thing but nothing, I have literally done every method I was told, I checked for water damage and that's fine. I don't want to restore my phone or buy a new one or pay for repairs because that's wasting money when it could be a simple way to fix it. And yes, I've also tried charging it and turning it in. I really need some help with my phone

That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

  • HT1212 My ipod touch is not turning on, even if i plug it in to the charger. I'am wanting to rest the passcode through my computer in hopes it will turn back on. So far nothing is working what should I do?

My ipod touch is not turning on, even if i plug it in to the charger. I'am wanting to rest the passcode through my computer in hopes it will turn back on. So far nothing is working what should I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

mine did the same thing. What I did was hold the home and power button down for 10 seconds but that did not work. I figured out that I just had to hold them down for a long time like 15 to 45 seconds. Then it finally turned on. You may have to do it a couple of time. But if this does not work send it in to the apple company they fixed mine completly free they even sent me a box to send it in. I hope my answer helps you fix it.

  • My ipod touch will not turn on, charge, or isn't recognised by itunes or my computer. I've tried most common fixes. Please help!

Hi. Last week, in this hot weather, my ipod (8gb, 4g) started flickering , screen went white and then it died! Left it off for 24 hrs to cool down and eventually it powered up again. Thing is, I needed to charge it and so put it on a dock but it wouldn't charge. Tried a diff dock, ac charger and apple usb cable to my laptop and nothing. Battery nearly completely drained, just get the flashing battery with lightning symbol when I press the on button. Not recognised by itunes or my computer and all the advice says to charge it and try again but mine doesn't seem to be charging despite being on a charger for several hours! Tried pressing on and home keys together for diff periods of time (up to 5 mins once) but still nothing. Not even getting to the apple logo stage Can someone out there please help me??

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

first: why did you download the iOS Beta 8? If you are a developer, go to the Apple Developers website and check what they can do for your case.
second: setup an appointment to a Genius Bar for service.
