Computer not working in wireless mode

Being new to the Mac world I got everything when I bought my imac G5. I have a netgear modem and airport card but have never been able to work in "wireless" mode. Last week I brought my new work laptop home which automatically recognised my netgear equipment and I managed to log on to the internet through a wirless connection. How can I get my Mac to do this ?? (I am a bit of a technophobe so easy instructions are required !!)

Hi novice, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried using AirPort Setup Assistant, which is in the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder? This will lead you through the necessary steps.
If you've already tried it and been unsuccessful, post back with more details.

  • Canon PIXMA MP600R - not working in wireless mode since installing 10.6.1

I have a Canon PIXMA MP600R which was set up to use over a wireless network and was working completely 100%.
However I installed Snow Leopard two weeks ago and now the printer wont work wirelessly. I have reinstalled the printer three times now, downloaded the printer updates from Apple and still no joy. I have trawled through the help file and the Canon PIXMA MP600R manual and have still not managed to connect wirelessly even though all the criteria's are met - access point, network configuration etc. The printer does not display in the Utility Printer Network List only in the USB list. When trying to connect to the printer to the router the message 'Printer cannot be found' pop up comes up even though all MAC, IP address, network access are met... any ideas?

Not sure why this is giving you so much trouble but I believe the MP600R will work fine on Snow Leopard once we get the machine correctly configured. I think I made an assumption that you were printing fine via wireless with another version of Mac OS X. But given that the printer does not appear to have/had an IP address set, then it would suggest that you were not printing previously via wireless. Is this correct?
To configure the IP address in the MP600R you have to connect the printer to the Mac via USB. Then you select the USB attached MP600R in the Printers list and open the Options & Supplies > Printer Utility. This will open the Canon IJ Printer Utility. Here you select the MP600R and now the Network Settings button should appear. If the button is still not present then you may have to download and install the Canon IJ Network Utility v2.70. In testing 10.6, my printers have already been configured for the network so I have never needed to do this setup step and therefore I am not certain if the facility exists to configure the network settings without this tool being installed. Apologies if this has been the stumbling block.
Once you have the Network Settings button present, select it and go through the procedures to configure the network settings. Once this process has completed, the setup will prompt you to turn off the MP600R and then disconnect the USB cable. Then when you power the MP600R back on, the machine should be connected to your wireless access point. At this stage you can check that the MP600R has an IP address via the Device Settings menu on the printer (refer back to my third reply to check how this is done).
Once the printer has an IP address and shows that it is active, you can now add another printer queue, this time for the wireless connected MP600R. Open Print & Fax, select to Add and choose the Default view. As I said in the first reply, you will probably see the MP600R immediately as a Bonjour Scanner, but we need to wait until the MP600R appears with its Kind column showing 'canonijnetwork'. When this does appear, select it and the Print Using menu will automatically find the correct driver. Click Add to finish adding the network printer queue.
Hope this stops the hair reduction....

  • Bridge does not work for wireless clients - connecting to existing network.

Hi - I really hope somebody can help out here, after hours of trial & error, I have finally given up
I need to connect my Airport Extreme Base Station to my existing network. I have a linksys router (192.168.15.1) connected to my modem and this linksys router acts as DHCP server too.
I suppose I have to use "bridge mode" for that to work. But should the linksys be connected to the AEBS using the AEBS's WAN or LAN port?
If I use "bridge mode", then wired computers to the AEBS works fine - getting an IP from the linksys etc. BUT, the wireless clients will have a self-assigned IP and not get through to the internet. It's like the AEBS will not allow wireless clients to "get through" unless AEBS itself is handing out IP addresses.
Page 36 of this manual ( http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPort_Networks10.5-Windows.pdf ) shows the setup I want. But in the picture, it says "Ethernet WAN port" but the text says: "The Apple wireless device (in this example, a Time Capsule) uses your Ethernet network to communicate with the Internet through the Ethernet LAN port ( <--> )." I don't know which one to use, WAN or LAN - they show WAN but say LAN?
When I set it up as "share an IP address", the AEBS status tells me "double nat" and to change from "shared IP" to "bridge mode". I do that, and everything seems fine - for the wired clients. Now the wireless clients cannot connect, Airport on the MacBook Pro just say "Connection failed" and the MacBook says "Invalid password" (translated from danish), even though I set the Airport Utlity to save the password in keyring, so it should be correct... If I disable wireless encryption, the wireless clients will connect but get a self-assigned IP, and therefor not work (cannot get online)...
It seems the only way I can get wireless to work, is if I set AEBS up as DHCP, but then it won't be on the "same network" as the linksys (192.168.15.1), but rather on 10.0.x.x as I select. If I select 192.168.x.x within AEBS, I'm also getting some error messages, conflict/subnet thing.
Anyway - I really hope somebody knows how to get wireless clients to get an IP address from existing ethernet when connected to the AEBS.
    Thanks!!

I've given up and had to go back to running "Double NAT" which also reports as a "problem" within the AEBS, but I just "ignore" it so the light will always be green.
It still ***** though, as "Double NAT" is also a reason for "Back to my Mac" not working properly, but how the ** am I supposed to avoid Double NAT when the wireless will not work in bridged mode?!

If you don't have access to a computer
If you are using Find My iPhone, you can use Remote Wipe to restore your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode.
    With computer:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • Home Sharing not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.

Home Sharing is not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.  I installed a new Verizon FIOS ActionTec  MI424WR GigE wireless / ethernet router, replacing the original FIOS router.  With the old router Home Sharing worked fine across and among all iOS and Windows wired and wireless devices.  With the new router Home Sharing works between and among the Wired PC's but not between the wired PC's and the Wireless connected PC's or iOS devices.  Home Sharing also works between and among the wireless connected PC's and iOS decices but not between them and the wired PC's.
Only the router was changed.  No changes were made to any of the devices except all were updated with the latest version of iTunes 10.7.0.21 and the iSO devices were updated to iOS vrsion 6.01.  Three PC's are wired and all are running Windows 7.  There also is a Windows Home Server connected to the router by ethernet port.  It does not run iTunes but does provide WebDAV services to my iOS devices.  This works fine.  Two PC's are wireless, one running Windows 7 and one running Windows 8.  All of the PC's are connected to the same (new) router via it's ethernet ports and it's wireless access point.  Two of the wired PC's are connected via a high-speed  ethernet hup that is connected to the router (Home Sharing works fine between the two PC's on the hub and the PC on the router).  All wired and wireless devices on the router are visible and members of the router's Home/Office virtual network.
All of the PC's are visible in the Windows network and all shared files are accessable from all PC's, both wired and wireless.
Obviously the router seems to be the issue, something between the ethernet and the wireless access point components.  I checked the settings and found nothing that would prevent Home Sharing between the wired and wireless devices.  There is no setting that isolates the wireless network.  I have done the following:
Read the router user manual and checked all the settings
    Rebooted the router and tested.
Turned off the router's firewall and tested.
Home Sharing is turned on all the devices and all use the same Apple ID.
    Restarted iTunes and tested.
Verified iTunes is "Allowed" in each PC's firewall.
Again, I can Home Share between the two wireless PC's but not between either of the wireless PC's and any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between my iPads and iPhones and either of the two wireless PC's but not with any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between any of the wired PC's but not between any wired PC and a wireless PC or iOS device.
I hope someone may have had a similar problem and has a fix suggestion.  I'm stumped!  I have a;so contacked ActionTec and awaiting an answer.

    Solution from ActionTec is:
    Log into your router.
    Click the Advanced icon
    Cclick Yes
    Click on the IGMP Proxy
    Select Disable
    Click Apply

  • [T400] Cisco VPN client not working over wireless adapter (but works on cabled connection)

I have a very strange problem.
I need to connect to my work via the cisco vpn client (version 5.0.00.0340).
My previous laptop (T43 , windows XP) worked well through both wired / wireless connections.  My desktop machine (vista) works via wired connection (it has no wireless connection).
On my new T400, the VPN client works via a wired connection but not via the wireless adapter.
On the wireless apapter, the vpn seems to connect OK, but when I try to access resources via the VPN there is little response.
I get this in the vpn log...
    405   08:56:57.073  04/16/09  Sev=Warning/2 IPSEC/0xE3700003
Function CniInjectSend() failed with an error code of 0xa4510009 (IPSecDrvCB:846)
I've tried disabling the firewall (in both the T400 and the router), removed access connections, and disabling tcp v6. I've rebooted everything too.
But, nothing seems to work.   I suspect the problem is on the t400 somewhere, because the old laptop used to work OK via wireless.
I've seen some google links on cisco vpn not working via  wireless but nothing seems to apply to my exact situation yet.
Anyone else had this problem or know of a fix? Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

all good now, got it working.
The Deterministic network thing was not installed on the wireless adapter for some reason.
So, I installed the latest wireless driver, reinstalled the vpn and all is good now.

  • Printing wirelessly from computer not working

I am trying to print wirelessly from my computer but when trying to print a word document, it does not work. In the "select printer" tab, the only options available to me are Fax (USB) and Fax (Network)...the printer is in "fax" mode and it will not allow me to print the document.
I do not have a landline and therefore do not need the fax option but it seems to have been automatically set and I do not know how to change it.
How can i set up my word/excel to print wirelessly to my HP 4620, how to take off the fax?

To remove the fax driver, just right mouse and uninstall. There should another printer that is the similarly named without the "Fax", use that printer to print.
Also, how come you have Fax (USB) and Fax (Netowrk)? Did you install the driver twice, once as usb and another network? The computer can only have that printer either as usb or network, but not both.

  • Wireless works FINE in Safe Mode, WILL NOT work in Normal Mode

    Hi All:
I've been smashing my head against the wall with this one. I have uninstalled ALL unnecessary applications I could find. Basically all that is left is Windows XP, Drivers and Patches in Add/Remove Programs. I have removed the wireless driver, downloaded a newer one and installed it, still nothing. I have tried it using no Wireless Security on the AP, and also using WPA, and wouldn't work with either in Normal Mode, but worked with both in Safe Mode. I ran a virus and spyware check (before uninstalling Norton), and it came out clean.
The weirest thing is, sometimes it does connect and get an IP in Normal Mode, but when I run a ping to my local gateway, half the packets are lost (timeout), and the ones that do reply I see a response time ranging from 2ms to 5000ms with no other traffic. I have no idea what can be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If all else fails, I will resort to formatting it and installing WinXP from scratch, since I doubt it's hardware.

It appears that some device whose driver does not load in Safe Mode malfunctions.
If this occurs before loading any drivers for added devices, then you'll need service.

  • Touchsmart 520-1047c Mouse and Keyboard will not work after sleep mode

I have an issue which I need some help with. When my computer goes to sleep the wireless mouse and keyboard will not work unless I restart, however each one will wake the system up but will not operate after that. I have tried just making the display go to sleep, both go to sleep but that makes no difference same issue occurs. The only work around I have found is going into the power settings and turning the sleep mode off for booth the computer and display. This does not solve the problem it just masks it. New batteries, unplugged and replugged the dongle, updated the bios and all drivers. Don't know what else to try. Anybody know how to fix this? Thank you in advance for your help.
