Computer now wakes up immediately after I put it to sleep!!

I've got a dual G5 running Panther and I put it to sleep when I go to work in the morning. Last night, I wanted to try out Tiger (yes, I know - I'm way behind the times) so I installed it on a FireWire drive and booted off it for a couple of hours to see how things worked. I then went back to my internal Panther drive, and everything is ok except for one thing: when I hit "sleep", it goes to sleep, the screens turn off, and then for some reason I immediately hear the internal drives spin back up and the thing turns on again!! Why can't it stay asleep?!?

what settings will be cleared by this (what will I lose and need to set up again)? any system Settings, firmware updates, or whatever?
Also, I trust that you have reviewed your Energy saving preferences to confirm
that they are set to allow sleep, and not to disturb said sleep?
which ones in particular? I think they're fine but maybe I'm missing something that got munged somehow. Where are the "disturb"-type settings? I've got "wake on LAN access" clicked off for example. What else is there?

That is common and in my sleep tips;
"USB devices and hubs often cause Macs to not sleep or wake quickly from sleep (notably HP printers and scanners, HP all in ones, and Cannon scanners). Disconnect all USB except for keyboard and mouse and try. If it sleeps, add one back at a time testing after each one to find the culprit."

Sometimes it wakes up moments after I put it to sleep

I push the power button to make my iMac goto sleep. Sometimes it will come right back on a few seconds after doing so. I push the power button again and this time it goes to sleep without problems. Does anyone know why I'm experiencing this with my Mac?

I've had many similar problems when I was using a PowerMac G5 Late 2005 Dual 2.3 GHz: it simply did not stay asleep! I then found that when I wanted to stay in sleep mode indefinitely I had to unplug the ethernet cable from the Mac, since it located ethernet traffic even if the "Wake for Ethernet Network Administrator Access" option was turned off under the "Options" in the Energy Saver Control Panel, in System Preferences... Until I found that glitch, I even brought it to the AppleCare in my town to check for that strange behaviour.
Now I have an iMac 24" (eraly 2008) 3.06GHz and that option is turned off, and when I put it to sleep (in those very rare occasions, I must admit!), it does sleep indeed!
I hope I have been of some help.

Why does computer turn itself back on after i put it to sleep?

This computer ( HP Pavilion Slimline model# s5107c, Product # NP212AA-ABA, Software Build 93NAv6PrA3 ) runs on VISTA Home Premium-64. It had a virus which required the technician to save my files and wipe everything out and then reinstall VISTA and my files. Since then when I put the computer in sleep mode, it turns itself back on after a few minutes.
I can find the settings for having the computer put itself to sleep after so many minutes, but can't find any setting for the computer turning itself back on.
Help please. The computer tech has not been able to help me thus far.

Hard drive wakes up immediately after being put into standby

I have an IDE disk which, till now, I used to keep in standby mode (it makes an audible humming noise when it's working which annoys me a lot :<). Today I noticed that after running `hdparm -y' on it, it would spin down but then it would immediately spin up again. I'm certain that the disk isn't being used and doesn't have any partitions mounted anywhere on the filesystem. Still, I'm unable to pinpoint the reason it's waking up.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
Edit: It appears that the disk gets into standby by itself after 10 minutes. I wish I knew where this value is coming from. O.o
Edit2: Those 10 minutes must be coming from `hdparm -S1 /dev/sdb'; maybe the hard drive has a lower limit in regard to this setting. :3

Here is what i get when i try that command.:

I tried other values also and its always the same error.
I just did another try with -y and the drive stayed in standby during ±40 minutes this time. The most annoying part is that is something that was not happening before I am pretty sure that it would stay in standby for days.

MBP wakes up immediately after sleep

So my MBP has been waking up from sleep right after I put it into sleep mode for some reason.
According to the console it's Wake reason: XHC1.
After it wakes up to the login screen it then goes to sleep normally if I leave it, but choose apple menu - sleep makes it wake up every time right after.
Some sort of maintenance thing or is it a bug?
2012 15" MBP, ML 10.8.2 - all up to date.

You've probably fix this by now, but I'm going to leave a reply for the benefit of anyone else who might be reading this. The XHC codes appear to have something to do with USB ports, so you'll want to check to make sure that you don't have any devices connected to the USB ports that might be triggering a wake. In my case, it was a hard drive docking station that was left on, but did not have a hard drive in it and was making no noise so I wasn't aware that it was on. I also wasn't aware that the hard drive docking station would be communicating so actively with my computer.

Try Resetting PRAM
PRAM stores settings for sound.

Several minutes after it puts display to sleep, network get disconnected.

I am sure that it get disconnected because I check the router traffic from another MAC and it get disconnected.
No mother if its connected by cable or wifi, it get disconnected.
In Energy Saver properties "Computer sleep" is set to "Never" and "Display sleep" is set in "10 minutes".
"Wake for network access" is checked but it will never work if network get disconnected.
"Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" is checked
All the other options are NOT checked.
I hope someone from this community can help me with this issue.

My iMac will not stay asleep. A few seconds to a few minutes after I put it to sleep, it comes back on.

OK, a few more things coming to mind:
Set the energy saver to sleep in 1 min
Diconnect every single peripheral you have connected to your iMac
Eject any DVD/CD you may have in the drive
Turn off all applications you have running
iTunes or DVD Player could be waking it constantly up if accessing your drives
Messaging apps could be looking for internet connection
Disable Wi-Fi
Disable Bluetooth - you don't have cells paired to it, do you?
Disconect Ethernet cable (if connected)
Spotlight - is it indexing your drive? (a dot within a magnifying glass would be pulsating and won't let your Mac go to sleep)
Connect a wired mouse - if you have it - and go to Apple menu then click SLEEP
If it remains asleep, keep adding all apps, devices and services back until you find which one is causing it.
If nothing helps, then I'm out of ideas....

I want to try deleting some startup files/folders as listed in your previous post. When it comes to the following:

/Library/LaunchDaemons
Do I delete the entire folder or just the files in each folder? Do I delete all files or am I looking for some in particular?

SR MBP Wakes immediately after being put to sleep

Background:
I've recently been experiencing consistent random sleep failures with my Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. Whether I sleep via the apple menu, or close the lid, the MBP goes through its sleep procedure, then the split second that the MBP latch light begins to breathe, the DVD-drives makes its 'wake up' sound and the MBP powers back on.
Initially I thought my problem was related to an application. Firefox and MSN messenger seemed to consistently cause the problem. Then I found that it can still occur with neither open. It 'seems' that if I turn off my airport immediately prior to sleeping, the MBP will sleep without problems. Sometimes if I turn it off, then immediately turn it back on and sleep, the MBP will sleep okay. This doesn't seem to work consistently.
I had also thought this might have something to do with my airdisk since it's been suffering the (well-documented at this point) problem where airdisks start giving "Unknown user, login [...]" errors. This doesn't seem to be the case though since the problem still occurs if I disable the airdisk agent and don't mount any drives.
NOTE: This doesn't seem to happen with my GF's MBP. It too is a 2.2GHz Santa Rosa machine on the same AEBS network.
*System Details*:
- Santa Rosa 2.2Ghz Stock Macbook Pro
- OSX 10.4.10, all updates installed including airport updates
- Gigabit Airport Extreme with Seagate FreeAgent Pro Airdisk attached via USB
Observations:
In my logs below, it seems that a successful sleep does NOT show the following lines in the system log. This might be related to having turned off the airport in order to get a successful sleep:

I have had the same problem you described for the past week. Very frustrating, also very dangerous. I got in from work today and my mbp had turned itself on with the lid closed, it was absolutely roasting hot, must have gone close to cooking it. Mine seems to be worse when its on power, did you guys notice any difference on power or battery?

Word com add-in now only working immediately after rebuild

I am working on a Word add-in (a specialized editor) using C# Visual Studio 2013 and Word 2010 on a server2012 machine. My add-in did work OK for quite some time but then I started to enhance it: It does in fact still 'work' - but
only when I launch it using 'run' from Visual Studio 2013 and
only when I do so immediately after a rebuild. If launching it after a 'build' or when hoping to access it directly from Word there is no access to my editor - tab.
Trying to look for it I go to settings in Word > addins > com addins. There I can see the add-in but it is unchecked, and checking it does not help: '...is not a valid..'
I can see that many others have similar problems using older versions - but I did not find a solution. Some people want to mess around in the registry but I am not too confident doing that. What could I try?

The Idea to do this came from
another post in this forum. I thought (and I still think) that this was a 'neat' way to integrate the code. But I have now changed this into a static class containing the same functionality.
This does Work and it put a stop to the problems - but it seems a bit 'clumsy' and I will therefore continue to pursuit the matter following your guidelines.
However it seens that it is not straightforward to extend the class 'Globals'

My iBook randomly wakes up after I put it to sleep.

30 minutes or so after putting my laptop to sleep it wakes up. Sometimes it goes back to sleep, but other times it stays awake for a period of time. Why could this be happening?

In addition to my previous post on sleep that Adrian so helpfully provided a link to, read the following;
A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--(username is your name or System Administrators name).
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
In some cases, running MacOS X's cron tasks-maintenance that the OS performs automatically if you leave your Mac on 24 hours a day-can resolve many sleep problems. If you don't want to leave your Mac on, you can use MacJanitor, Yasu, or OnyX free at Versiontracker.com.

Imac keeps waking up immediately after being put to sleep

firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere in the community
i bought an imac in june of this year (running most up-to-date version of mountain lion), and normally when i leave it, i put it to sleep instead of shutting down
have had no issues in doing this until last night.. now, as soon as i put it to sleep, it goes into sleep mode and then instantly wakes itself up again
i have checked the battery on the mouse and the keyboard (98% and 100% respectively)
i have nothing plugged into any usb ports
any ideas on why it keeps waking up by itself and how to resolve this issue?

i am new to apple products and to the community, and having read the community etiquette i apologise for not referring to the 'more like this' section before i posted - lesson learned
in respect of your advice, i checked the energy saver options as you suggested and the 'wake for network access' option was unchecked
interestingly, i have never had this issue until last night and i have made no system changes, downloaded or updated anything?
still a bit confused, will read through the 'more like this' posts and see if my answer lurks there somewhere
