Computer performance reduced

Hello, my computer suddenly began to run slow and I later learned that I am not using all of my ram.  I have 6GB of ram installed and my PC is only using 1.48GB of the 6.  I have scanned my PC for any viruses or malware that could possibly be using up my ram, and my searches came up empty.  Please help, I have tried everything I could possibly think of.

I understand that your system is not using all of the physical RAM in the system.
What is the product number?
NOTE: Do NOT provide the serial number.
What program is being used to verify the available RAM and total physical RAM?
If you right-click Computer and select properties, how much RAM is Windows reporting?
You mentioned you tried to find any malware that may be using RAM.  Used RAM should not pull from the reported physical RAM.  Used RAM would be a suspicion if you were out of RAM versus not all of the RAM being reported as detected.
Turn the system on and press F2 about once a second to enter the diagnostics menu.  Run the start-up test and let me know the results.

  • Installed additional RAM but computer performance now worse

Can anybody please help? I have a T61 that came with 2Gb RAM (1GB + 1GB) and I recently purchased another 2GB chip. The problem is that after installation I had a total RAM of 3GB (1GB + 2GB), the Windows Experience Index score actually decreased!  It went from 3.5 to 3.1!!
Also, under the category Memory (RAM), the score remained unchanged at 4.8!! Should this have at least increased? Also, I am not noticing any improvements in performance.
Is there something that I haven't done or is there anything I should do after the installation? And yes, I did refresh/update from index score.
Please don't tell me I need to buy a new notebook!!!
    Thanks

Part of the problem is that with two differents sized DIMMs you lose the Dual Channel mode feature of the RAM, so the effective throughput of the RAM would be lowered compared to the two 1GB modules that operated in dual-channel.
If possible I would suggest 2 x 2G modules for a total of 4GB or if you can afford it 2 x 4G modules for a total of 8GB this will keep the dual channel mode active and the RAM performance optimal.

  • Reducing Picture File Size

Hi.  I have a bunch of pictures on my computer that I reduced in Preview (using Adjust Size) because they were taking up too much space on my hard drive.
However, after reducing them, I realized that my HD space was not increasing, but rather decreasing.  I was told that what I actually did was create two photos.  The original and then the reduced version.  But I had been saving the new photos under the same name (so I thought they were being replaced).
How do I find the original files and delete them?
    Thanks.

What does this have to do with iPhoto?  Are you doing this size reduction in iPhoto with Preview or in the Finder with Preview?
    Detail the workflow you're using.

  • I have a macbook pro 15" Retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram yet when i try to download a HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD?

i have a macbook pro 15" retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram when i try to download an HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD? i went to the support on the apple website and looked at the specs that a computer has to meet in order to play HD movies and mine is well above them. Why can't i play the movies?

That would at least partially explain it.
These MacBook Pros drew more power than the power brick could readily supply, and so would only run at top speed when the power brick was supplemented by the battery.
Though the applicable tech note has been removed, it stated:
"If the battery is removed from a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the computer will automatically reduce the processor speed. This prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide."

  • Greatly decreased sound quality in headphones/computer speakers

    I'm using a dm4 notebook with Win 7 64-bit OS.
The trouble is that the sound coming through my headphones has reduced in quality, sounds quite tinny.  The master volume also cannot be turned up as loud as it did before.  When the headphones are unplugged, the computer speakers have reduced in volume as well.
Under "playback devices" the only devices are "Speakers and Headphones" and "Communications Headphones." There is no "Independent Headphones" device.  So right now the only device being used is Speakers and Headphones, which makes me think that before the problem occured there was another device that made the headphones sound better.
I checked the audio driver for updates, but it says that the lastest is already in use.
So I don't know what happened to change the quality in sound, and I don't know how to get it back to the quite excellent sound it had before.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Speakers and Headphones is correct setting.Have you checked you support page for an update for your Audio driver?Get your Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key or check the Service Tag attached to bottom, may be under battery.
Use the icon at top of this page titled 'Support & Drivers'..Enter your Product Number .After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS

  • Warning message in Lion

    Hi ,
I just installed Mac OSX Lion.
When I download a set of images (like a manga for example) in Preview , a warning message saying that this is an image taken from the internet (and asking me if I'm sure I want to open it) keep bugging me. How to get rid of this message ?
Thanks to thoses who could help me.

Does it say "image" or application
Protect your computer from harmful applications
Some harmful applications exist that can cause problems for your computer. Frequently, a harmful application will try to appear as an innocent document, such as a movie or graphic file. These applications, called “trojans,” are most often spread by Internet downloads and email enclosures.
Important: If you receive an application warning and you don’t expect the file to be an application, don’t open the file. Delete it from your computer.
Here are some tips to protect your computer from harmful applications.
Never download unlicensed or “pirated” software from the Internet.
Accept only applications you receive from a known and trusted source.
Run an antivirus program if you find any suspicious files or applications, or if you notice any suspicious behavior on your computer.
To reduce the amount of exposure to harmful applications or files, limit the number of administrator accounts you create. Consider creating a user account for your daily work and use the administrator account only when you need to install software or administer accounts.
If you enabled the root user and you don’t currently need it, disable it.

  • Multiple instances of one application in a single vm

    Hi
At work we use a database client called SAP, for timesheet, maintenance logs etc.
To access this application (SAP) we need to use computers on a domain, which we are charged $6000 yearly per. computer.
To reduce this cost, we want to set up a server running windows server 2012 (for centralized storage, web applications etc), with a virtual machine running windows 7, that is part of the domain, and having access to SAP.
What we then would need is the ability to remotely log on to the virtual machine and run SAP, easy enough..
But the problem is that we are 15 people who need to do this at the same time.
Is this possible? And is Hyper-V the right way to go?
The server will be running with two network adapters, one for the office network, and one for the virtual machine which connects it with the domain.

Hyper-V won't allow you to get out of paying your per use licensing.
You will need 15 licenses of Windows installed in Hyper-V as well as SAP.

  • Is it possible to maintain a high res workflow on new iPad?

    I hope I'm wrong.
It does not seem possible for me to use all these amazing syncing tools such as photo stream, aperture, iPhoto and the camera roll to maintain a high res workflow.
I have an image shot on my iPhone 4 open in aperture acquired from photo stream at it's full size 1936 x 2592.
I view the same image in iPhoto on my "The New iPad" or iPhone 4 (that I shot the image on) and look at the info, it's been reduced to 1536 x 2056.
I also emailed myself the same image directly from photo stream from the new iPad and it's also showing up at the same reduced resolution.
When I email it from the phone and tell it to send the full size image it still opens up on my computer at the reduced size.
The help section of iPhoto on the iPad said that photo stream would send the images at full resolution to all my IOS devices.
Seems like the only way to acess a full res file is to pull them photo stream in aperture.
When I synced with aperture to populate my camera roll and iPhoto on the new iPad... all of my images are showing up on the iPad at the same reduced size... 1536 wide. (I already have my preferences set to not place limits on preview sizes).
    Anyone have any insights?
    Thank You

iCloud (Photo Stream) and iTunes both limit the resolution of images sent to iOS devices.  Photo Stream does not limit the resolution of images sent to the PC or Mac.
If I load a picture in to my iPad 2 or 3 using the Camera Connection kit they come in at full resolution.

  • Flash player permission box pops up but won't go away

This little annoying box that aways pops up wanting permission to store things onto my laptop pops up and will not go away. How do I get rid of it? I have tried the settings box, checking the tiny box for it to not ask again but it keeps popping up anyways.

Websites might occasionally want to store information, such as your high score from a game that runs in  Flash Player or what products you have purchased, to your computer. In the Global Storage Settings panel, you can control how much disk space websites can use to store information, or you can prohibit websites from storing any information at all. (If you prohibit websites from storing information, the website might or might not function as intended.)
Use this panel to specify the default storage settings for websites that you haven't yet visited. (To change settings for websites you have already visited, use the Website Storage Settings panel.) The following list explains the storage options:
If you don't want to let applications from any website save information on your computer, and you don't want to be asked again, select Never Ask Again. This action doesn't delete any information that is already stored. (To delete existing information, use the Delete options in the Website Storage Settings panel.)
If you want to decide on a case-by-case basis whether applications from a website can save information on your computer, move the slider to the far left (None). Each time an application wants to save information on your computer, you will be asked for more disk space.
If you want to let applications from any website save as much information on your computer as they need to, move the slider to the far right (Unlimited).
If you want to let applications from any website save information on your computer, but want to limit the amount of disk space they can use, move the slider to select 10 KB, 100 KB, 1 MB, or 10 MB. If an application needs more space than you have allotted, you will be asked for more disk space while the application is running.
(Flash Player 8 and later) If you do not want to let third-party content store information on your computer, deselect Allow Third-Party Content To Store Data On Your Computer.
When you visit a website, the address shown in the browser address bar is usually where most of the website is located. For example, if you visit a fictional website www.[hotel].com, most of the website is located at www.[hotel].com. Sometimes, websites combine content from different sources. For example, www.[hotel].com might display a reservations form in Flash that actually comes from [reservations.hotel].com. The content from the latter website is called third-party content.
Third-party content might try to store information on your computer. In the hotel reservations example, you might be willing to let [reservations.hotel].com store information on your computer, such as data about which hotels you prefer, so that you can make a hotel reservation. However, you might not be willing to let third-party content store information on your computer in other situations. For example, a car-rental company, www.[my-car-rental].com, might have a banner ad on www.[hotel].com, to track your website usage or to record your preferences.
To prohibit all third parties from storing information on your computer, deselect Allow Third-Party Content To Store Data On Your Computer. This option is available only with Flash Player 8 and later. Adobe recommends that you upgrade to the most recent version of Flash Player available.
(Flash Player 9.0.115.0 and later) If you do not want to store Flash components on your computer, deselect Store Common Flash Components To Reduce Download Times.
Flash Player lets you store common or shared SWF and FLV files and other components from different websites on your computer to significantly reduce download times and allow faster viewing. For example, www.[hotel].com and [reservations.hotel].com might both use the same Adobe components on their sites.

  • 'Crop' doesn't trim pages as it used to (Acrobat 9 Pro)

I have a mult-page document with text only in the middle of each page, and with some pages a little larger than others.  I want to crop the unnecessary bordering material and have all pages end up as the same dimensions.
In Acrobat 7 I would highlight the area with the Crop tool, double-click on the area to bring up the Crop dialog box, click on "Revert to Selection" and set "All Pages", and all pages would be cropped to the rectangle I had selected.
In Acrobat 9, all pages get cropped, but pages that were originally larger are STILL larger.  I can't understand this.  Am I using one of the arcane, clumsy, and counter-intuitive Crop dialog commands improperly?
    Thanks for any help.

  • After startup my iMac's screen turns black

My iMac start ups normal. I hear the chime, followed by the apple logo and gears. Then the screen goes black but you can still see the cursor clear as day. I can also turn the brightness up and down, but it is still black. Is there anything I can do to fix it without taking it to the apple store 45 min away?  Please help!!!

Will it start more normally if you choose to hold the Shift key down through startup and then you may be able to see the desktop and login...? This would be SafeBoot mode.
If so, then it could be troubleshooted or console utility logs looked into, to see if there is any evidence of system parts not loading properly, or of a hardware issue. Or a graphics problem after the system loads.
SafeBoot starts the computer in a reduced OS X so several items are turned off.
With an AppleCare plan in effect, you should consider making an appointment
with a Genius at the Apple Store, to take the computer in for diagnosis.
Especially if this repeats itself; that would make it easier to prove a point.
Have you used this computer with an external display?
In safeboot mode, if it starts you could check some other things in the system.
However there are keyboard shortcuts on startup that
may be able to troubleshoot past the problem.

PS: there may be two things to try:
    two workarounds:
Put the computer to sleep (close the lid on a Mac Book (pro) or press the power button quickly on a desktop Mac. After a few seconds of sleeping, wake the computer up again. The login dialog usually appears now.
    2. Sometimes you do not want to put the computer to sleep because you do not want to interrupt a task that is running. In this case, press CTRL+SHIFT+EJECT. This keyboard shortcut usually locks the screen. In out case, locking the screen also enables or resets the screen saver, so that the next key press or mouse motion will bring up the login dialog.
    Good luck & happy computing!
