Computer Randomly Freezes & Airport Won't Turn on

Recently, the Airport has started turning off randomly or ending my connections and refusing to reconnect. The computer will also freeze at random times with no hopes of unfreezing so I am forced to restart quite frequently. I took the computer to the Apple Store and they tested all of the hardware and found no problems. They also reinstalled the operating system while leaving my files unharmed. SInce the problem has persisted, I can only assume that the problem originated from one of my files (but that could be a false assumation) . I accidentally downloaded some .exe files around the same time my computer stopped working properly. Maybe this is part of the problem. (obviously they are already deleted)
I have read many forums on this and not found a helpful answer. If anyone knows anything about this problem and how to rectify it please let me know!

I, too, am having this problem. Exact same symptoms. Seems to have happened after the Airport Extreme Update that I applied somewhere around October 20 2008.

  • Computer randomly shut off, won't turn back on

Ok so a basic run down of what happened.
I was using my email (I had itunes, transmission, ichat, safari running) and my computer (purchased december of last year) turned off. I waited 5 minutes wondering what happened, thought the outlet might be faulty or something, unplugged and plugged it into the outlet above it.
Pressed the power button, turned on, worked fine.
For three hours. Then it did it again, surfing safari; same programs running. Unplugged it, thinking it blew out or something (I live in an older house). Plugged it in to another outlet 3 feet away. Turned on, worked fine - Continued on my merry way.
3-5 Hours later, same deal. Only this time, I'd run out of nearby outlets. Double checking, and a bit confused I tried plugging something else into the outlet and... It works. Retried plugging in the computer... It doesn't work. It does however make the disc-sound when I press the power button. Nothing afterwards.
The only trouble I've had thus far is with Boot Camp/Vista. I had Vista installed via Boot Camp and it worked fine but no longer needing it, I unistalled the partition. Upon restarting the computer I go straight to a black screen that tells me to insert the windows disc, but that could be avoided by using option on start up.
I appreciate any help or advice offered, I'm calling apple right after this is posted and I realize I will likely have to take it in to a store.
Worth a shot though, just in case.

The problem you describe is reportedly caused by a bad power supply, in which case you will need to have it repaired. You should contact AppleCare or take it to an Apple Store.

  • MSI P35 Neo-F (MS-7360): Computer randomly freezes while playing games

    Hi there,
I have reached the end of my technical knowledge right now and I'm not even sure if this area of the forum is appropriate. The problem:
While playing higher-end games like Crysis 2, Anno 1404, Mass Effect 2 etc. my computer randomly freezes and the last few milliseconds of sound are being looped on my speakers (kind of like a buzzing sound).
By "freezing" I mean that my computer becomes unresponsive to any action other than pressing the Reset-Button or holding down the Power-Up-Button (no reaction to Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, no mouse movement... you get it).
There's no exact timing as to when these freezes occur. The fastest freeze happened after less than a minute of playing a game, slowes one (just today after switching to my newer case with better cooling) took about 2 hours.
This freeze only occurs while my System is under load. No freezes while browsing the web, using office programs, listening to music or watching videos.
    System Specs:
        Mainboard: MSI P35 Neo-F (MSI-7360)
        CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
        RAM: 4x 1GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2
Graphics: Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 620W (upgraded from Xilence XP600, 600W)
New CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 13 Pro (upgraded from OEM Intel Boxed Cooler)
New Case: Zalman Z9 Plus w/ 4x 120 mm Fans (Upgraded from a Case with only 1x 250mm side Fan)
        2 Western Digital HDD (1x 2TB, 1x320 GB)
1 DVD Reader/Burner (unimportant for that error I guess)
        OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
        2 Screens: 1x 24" Asus VS248H and 1x 21" LG Flatron Wide W2240T
Since this error is bugging me for quite a while now and since this is not the first forum I'm trying to get help from, here's a list of steps i already took to get rid of it, obviously to no good use:
reinstalled games where the freeze occurred
updated all Drivers (including cleaning old versions in safe mode; also tried older drivers)
        updated BIOS to v1.A0
        Reinstalled Windows
bought new Case and CPU Cooler to improve Air Flow/Cooling
checked Seating of all components (took out, cleaned, reapplied thermal grease where neccessary, re-inserted)
cleaned old case of dust (obviously no problem in the new case, which is 2 days "old")
ran 7 sequences of Memtes86+ without any errors
ran Prime95 without any errors for about 45 Minutes
ran Furmark for 15 Minutes under full load (burn-in test) without any problems, even though my graphics card hit the 100°C frequency-cut level
ran Furmark and Prime95 simultaneously without any problems
took records of component temperatures and system voltages without noticing anything unusual (at least not after i switched to the newer PSU, which is about 1 Month old - yet didn't resolve the problem)
tested with cyclic removal of 1 RAM device to further rule out RAM malfunction
tested with only 2 RAM devices in dual channel mode (Slots 1 and 3)
tried to reduce RAM clock (800 MHz --> 667 MHz) to no avail
checked S.M.A.R.T. values of HDDs, no issues reported
        tested without any background programs
raised/lowered voltages to RAM, CPU and Chipset in BIOS to increase logic circuit stability/decrease heat production
I need to mention: After I transferred my system to the new case, i was able to play longer than average compared to my old case. So I am guessing that improper cooling was part of the problem, yet improving cooling obviously didn't resolve it.
Since these freezes are really annoying and nobody could help me resolve this so far, I'm hoping to find some new ways of narrowing down the problem or even getting rid of it here.
    Regards
    Sebb

Lets be realistic. A system with a 560TI is recommended to have a around 31Amps under full load, a CX500 would be sufficient.
Have you monitored your CPU and memory utilisation ?
As suggested before, test the GPU in another computer to see if the behaviour is the same.
Whew, I thought for a second there that my common sense had left me when I saw that 60-Amp-Post ^^
Yes, I monitored CPU and RAM usage, there is no recognizeable pattern to be seen and it almost never happens under full load.
I will see if a friend of mine can test my GPU on his computer, and I will test it underclocked right away.
Though one more question regarding that: Should I only underclock GPU Core Clock or both Core and RAM clock?

  • HT1338 my macbook pro airport won't turn on! What would be the problem?

my macbook pro airport won't turn on! What would be the problem?
I've tried to turn the airport on and it says my airport card is not installed...
it has always worked till today... bot from now on nothing seem to help the airport work...
    Please help me!
    Thanks

You could try deleting the airpot from the sidebar of system preferences/network. To do this,
    1)  export the preferences for your airport to your desktop by pressing the gear next to the plus and minus sign above the lock.
    2) Delete your airport from the sidebar using the minus sign while the airport is selected.
    3)  After deleting the airport, apply the changes and then press the plus sign to create a new airport.
    4)  Then import the preferences back in and apply the changes again.
This may bring your airport back.  It worked for me.  Alternatively, people have been having success with changing the location of the airport.
    Good Luck.

I just bought my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty Pro Series and my computer randomly freezes for up to 0 seconds and I hear a single beep from my internal computer speaker after which my system goes back to normal for about 5 to 0 minutes and then it repeats the same process. I have upgraded all my drivers for my motherboard, including flashing my bios to an updated version, and I ran the creative software auto update from the website and updated the drivers and software and I'm still having the same issue. I am running a Dell XPS 400 system:?Dell DXP05 MotherboardPentium D830 Dual Core Smithfield @ 3.0Ghz2 gigs ramXFX Nvidia GeForce 7900GS 256mb Video Cardand X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty Pro Series Card?Any thoughts? I've read similar posts however none seem to be the same as my issue.

    Hi,
Did this happen right out of the box or do you own the card for some time now?
Just in case, please ensure that the sound card is firmly seated on the pci slot.

  • Airport won't turn off

Hi there, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. My airport has been giving me trouble on and off. It's fine right now but sometimes it will just stop working. I won't be able to connect to any networks even though if I click on the airport icon I can see a few of them there. If I try to click on one it hangs for a bit and then doesn't connect. If I try to click on the airport icon and click turn airport off it does the same thing, hangs for a bit but then won't turn off.
If I try to go to network preferences it also hangs but this won't stop unless I got and force it to quit.
Finally, if I try to shutdown or restart the computer it starts to shutdown, gets to the point where all i see is my desktop but then hangs until I have to hold down the power button to turn it off.
When I turn it back on it seems to work fine but then a while later might randomly do the same thing again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello dathascome. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like you might have a corrupted configuration file or driver with your OS X installation. I suggest the first thing to try is to create a new user account; log off of your existing account, and then, log back on with the new account.
    Did this correct the problem?

  • Computer Randomly Freezing withing past few weeks

    Hi,
more recently my computer randomly will freeze up several times of the day either if I'm just sitting here doing something on it or go away for awhile to find that it has froze. Sometimes when It freezes though, everything will be frozen and unclickable, but yet the mouse will still be able to move around. Control, Alt, Delete will not work at this time either. So I then will have no choice but to turn it off and back on from the power button. If you need any more info to help acess the problem, feel free to ask.
    Could use some help.
    Important details:
I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE
    Operating System: Windows 7
Virus Protection: Kaspersky Internet Security 2014
Age of computer: Aprox. 5 y/o

    123,
At the least, eliminating possible "trouble spots" makes it easier to find the underlying reasons that things are not working as they should.
You might spend some time staring at the Resource Monitor to see if any one or two processes are hogging the CPU or perhaps creating another type of bottleneck.
Another thing to look for:  Too many or the wrong kind of browser addons.  Some of the addons are pretty nice;  some addons can end up costing you CPU cycles while they spin and check and process whatever information they must digest.
    Happy New Year 2014!

  • Computer randomly freezes.  Can't figure out why?

Hi guys.  I have a 2011 MBP that has been pretty decent, but seems to have some issues that I can't solve.
Basically, once every 4 or 5 days (give or take), the computer will freeze requireing a hard restart.  Sometimes this will happen when I'm in the middle of using it.  Other times it will happen overnight after I've put the display to sleep (computer still on, just the display is sleeping).
There is nothing in the Console that suggests any errors happening.  The Console entries simply cease between the time when the computer freezes and whenever I restart it. There is nothing I can do to replicate the sitution with any measure of consistency.  Sometimes it happens when I'm doing something...sometimes when I'm doing nothing but browsing websites.  System is never under load when it happens (somewhere between 50C and 70C)
I've run memory tests (in Single user mode) and HDD tests.  I've verified my disk permissions with Disk Utility and Onyx.  Nothing special seems to be happening in Console.  I'm not using any software that I didn't use on my 2010 MBP, which had no issues.  Yet and still, the freezes come.  They are rare, but frequent enough and unpredictable enough for me to worry whenever I'm doing something for business.  I shouldn't have to think about when my next freeze is going to come.
Any ideas on where I can start trouble-shooting? Nobody wants to use a computer that is unreliable for any reason, you know?  I've considered doing another format and reinstall of OS X (I did that once already), but I'm not excited about doing it again.

Will try.  Thank you for your time and the suggestion.
The thing I hate about my problem is that it's so unpredictable.  It might crash today...it might not crash again for a week or more.  I think that's the part I hate most.  I won't necessarially know anytime soon if the problem is resolved.
If anyone else has suggestions, please post them. There's a very good chance I'll need to try your ideas at some point in the very near future.
    Cheers.

  • Macbook freezes and won't turn on after using itunes and going to standby

My macbook pro "locks up" when I am using Itunes and I let my computer go to sleep or to standby mode. It won't turn back on without manually shutting it down and restarting the computer. I have had hardware diagnostics done on it and they all report back fine. If anyone knows how to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated!!!

The computer may think it is syncing with the iPod while you are attempting to go to sleep, thus is stuck trying to know what to do. Try dismounting the iPod first, and then disconnecting it, and then putting it to sleep.

  • Power Button Stuck, Screen Freezes, Apps won't turn on, ETC.

Please Understand, I am an apple customer, I buy apple technology, and I purchase from the app and music store.
I am very unhappy with the service and technology Apple has provided me with. I am 15 years old and I don't have a phone to communicate with, only an iPod because my parents are of the older generation and don't think young people should have phones. So I guess I'm **** out of luck until I'm 17. So instead of having a phone, I bought and ipod touch 4g so I could use Kik, Snapchat, TextFree, and listen to my music as well. I have used multiple other Apple iPods, only to find out that every single one I got either got corrupted or would just out of the blue stop working. Just recently, I found out how ****** the iPod screens are, my iPod screen dropped not even 2 feet and shattered. So I had my brother in law, who has a computer and technology business, replace my screen and put in a new one. After my screen was put in, my ipod was completely fine. Had no issues and no cracks. But just 3 weeks ago my iPod power button somehow got stuck. I tried mutliple things to fix it, (even had my brother in law try) and we found that there is no way to fix it, AND I found out that the price to pay to fix a stupid power button was $99.00. By the way, paying to get a lousy power button fixed is ******* ridiculous, considering that making a piece of **** like this iPod, probably costs around half the price that it sells for AND is made in either China or Taiwan. Now I know I might get some pretty snobby *** comments about how I don't need an iPod because I'm just a little spoiled brat. Actually that statement is false, considering that I have to work to buy my own iPod. Now, instead of just writing a crap ton of useless words that I know alot of poeple won't read, I will just list the problems that I am having:
Power button is stuck and won't let me do anything. (No, I am not talking about the home button located and the bottom of the iPod)
Apps ALWAYS crash and never let me do what I intend to do. (I don't know if that's because of the app manufacturers or not but my apps are all completely updated)
My music on various occassions won't turn on.
Whenever I try tapping on an app, it leads me to another app in which I don't need to get to.
My keyboard on all occassions wigs out, (for example: when I tap the letter T my keyboard makes Tttttttttttt. I don't need that many T's, sorry)
My camera is slow, and will not take pictures most of the time.
    My asssistive touch NEVER works.
I have called Apple support and whenever I would get connected to a representative they wouldn't help me.
    The Apple support service *****.
As you can tell, I am not a very happy customer and I'm sure you wouldn't be either considering the fact that my iPod is basically toast, and a big waste of money. I know there are more things to worry about like cancer and whatever BUT this is a technoloical issue not a health issue so don't even try to play that card. If I could have any assistance regarding my issue, I would love to have help.
Thank you for taking your time to read my novel of an issue.

I would recommend that you try backing up your iPod and wiping it clean. Once it is factory reset, restore your data onto it. This should solve your software-based issues.
Now, the stuff that happens, such as another app opening or the keyboard freaking out, if not fixed by the restore, are because of your replacement screen. Also, Apple is charging you $99 to repair the lock button because you have voided the warranty by breaking the device. Who knows? Maybe the drop or the repair caused the button to go out of wack.
Finally, it's cool that you work for your own stuff. I live in a lower middle class area in a lower middle class family and pay for all of my stuff as well. My MacBook Pro, my iPhone 5S, my iPad Air, etc. I know the pain of spending hard earned money. BTW, I'm only 17, and still in High School as well.
Anywho, let me know if the restore works, but as for the physical damage caused by you, you can't blame anyone but yourself for that. I wish you luck.

  • Airport won't turn on after installing Mac OS X 10.5.7 onto MacBook Pro

I have had my MacBook Pro for about nine months now and the airport has works fine up until this point. For some reason whenever I try to update my system to OS X 10.5.7 my airport will not turn on. Instead of seeing the wirless bar icon in the top right menu I just see a triangle with a pull down menu that has the option to: "Turn Airport On". But whenever I try to click on it nothing happens. It seems like no matter what I try I can't get it to turn on. The only way I can get my Airport working again is to reinstall OS X. I am currently using OS X 10.5.2 and everything works great! So I am wondering why does my standard airport extreme on my MacBook Pro not work with OS X 10.5.7?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Does the App launch form the Applications Folder rather than the DOCK ?
The icons in the DOCK are links to the App. Sometimes this link can get broken.

  • Airport won't turn on - Macbook

I'm hoping you guys can help me with this so I don't have to take my Macbook into the store for service.
I have a SR Macbook with the 2.2g processor, almost a year old.
I turned it on last night and tried to turn Airport on, it kept the menu icon highlighted for about 20 seconds like it was trying to start, and then nothing. So when I try it again, I get the beachball and that's it. All the other programs work fine, but whenever I put the cursor over the airport icon, it beachballs. If I try to shut the computer down, it starts to go, but won't ever actually turn off. I have to do that manually.
I haven't made any changes to anything recently, so I'm not sure what would cause this. Any ideas, or should I just take it in?
    Thanks

    Hello trip211,
    I had the same problem.
The post of Kevin Hiscox solved my problem.

  • Computer randomly freezing

My computer as of like last week started freezing frequently. It's happened to me like 6-7 times today and is starting to become a problem since I rely on my computer to DJ. Now up until recently it has been working great. This has been happen while the cord is plugged in. I haven't left it running for extended periods of time with the cord unplugged.
At first I thought it was a heating issues because I heard macbooks can tend to over head especially with my keyboard cover and Speck skin I have on it but when its been happening the temperatures were normal. I've also lowered the thresholds on the temperature to see if that would help.
I lost my install dvd and I thought I might be able to test my hardware using a older copy of OS X I found laying around but it won't boot from it.

Okay, I'm now using battery only. Only 57 minutes of batter left. The temperature is at 75 degrees celcius. Is this normal? All I'm running is Azureus, Firefox, amsn, and itunes is running but not playing. My airport is on and connected and my bluetooth is off.

  • Airport won't turn on after sleep

Recently purchased 2 new imacs(1-24", 1-20"). They are both having the same problem. When I wake them up from a powersave sleep the airport is turned off. This wouldn't be a problem except it wont turn back on. If I click to turn it on it doesn't do anything at all. If I go to assist me -> diagnostics it just says scanning... but never does anything else. The only way I can get back up and running is a restart. This is a problem because I run software that needs to send a backup to the server on shutdown. I have temporarily set the powersave up to 3 hours, but I would much rather fix the problem than work around it.

Hi, When the computer goes into sleep mode, it is like shutting it down, in that it halts any and all processes.
Because nothing is happening until it wakes back up, that is why Entourage won't get it's mail. MSN will disconnect whenever the computer is put to sleep (or more annoyingly, whenever it damned feels like it).
So yes, this is normal behaviour with sleep mode, and the only workaround I know of is to not have the computer sleep. (But the monitor can always turn off, and the hard drives spin down.)
