Computer randomly hangs

Hello,
I'm experiencing random freezes in Windows 8.1.
This is the last even recorded by my system,
DistributedCOM ID 10010
The server (BF6C1E47-86EC-4194-9CE5-13C15DCB2001) did not register within required timeout
It's a fairly new computer and it has a clean install of Windows 8.1 on it.
I've installed the latest Windows and driver software for my hardware.
These are my specs
M/B  :Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3 (BIOS versie F7)
CPU  :Intel i7 2600k
GPU  :HD Radeon 6970 GDDR5 (2x 2 GB)
PSU  :Corsair HX850
RAM  :Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR3 (4 x 4 GB)
SPU  :E-MU 1010 PCI (1616m) soundcard
OS    :Windows 8.1 PRO_NL
I have some information that could be valuable in solving this problem.
I had two of the same video cards in my computer before, but after installing an extra PCI soundcard it, sometimes one of them didn't work.
It would either not show up in the device manager, or the device manager exclamation mark saying that there are no
resources left for the IRQ (or something simmilar like that)
I've tried to update the BIOS and reset it to its default values and installed a clean copy of Windows 8.1.
Nothing worked.
I later decided to remove the video card, it was an overkill anyway.
Since then it hasn't shown... but I experience hangs ups once in a while.
I have confirmed that the PCI sound card is working perfectly in Windows 8.1 on my old system.
I think it might have something to do with the IRQ, still.
Can someone please help me figure this out.
I need a stable computer for my home studio work.
Thanks in advance!

Hi FadingMusic,
"Since then it hasn't shown... but I experience hangs ups once in a while."
Do you mean this issue occur after we remove the video card ? Have you tried to update the video card driver from the device manager ?If it is possible ,it is recommended to download the driver from manufacturer website.
Have you checked task manager whether there is a process occupying much system resources when the system freezes ?
For the logs in the Event Viewer ,please disable the two taks  "IdleSync Maintenance Task " ,"RoutineMaintenance Task "from the taks schedule in this path \Microsoft\Windows\SkyDrive\ and then have a check .
Here is a link for reference of the similar issue :

To get a better performance of windows, please always keep it update to date .
1.Swipe from the right or press the Windows + C key. Tap or click the Search charm, and then type Windows Update.
2.Tap or click Settings, and then select Install optional updates.
3.When the Windows Update control panel opens, click Check for Updates on the top left corner to receive a list of available updates for your PC.

  • Oracle SQL Developer freezes and locks up computer randomly

I attempted to find a solution to this before posting. I looked through the first 40 pages of this forum and on Google, through the Developer documentation, etc. with no luck.
The problem: while using Oracle SQL Developer, the computer randomly freezes. Things work, but it hangs too often and for too long to use. This is random - it can happen every 10 seconds or every 2 minutes. The mouse will lock up, and the keyboard buffer will get all messed up. For instance, if it happens to freeze while I'm hitting "backspace", it will delete many lines of text (I've lost a bit of work because of this in the past). The freezing will last about 2 to 20 seconds, and the only way out of it is to ctrl+alt+delete and kill SQL Developer.
If SQL Developer is running, and I'm in a different window - it will freeze the other windows as well. Again, it's impossible to use unfortunately. My coworker doesn't have the same problem, and he's connecting to the same database with the same version using Windows Vista. It must be something on this computer. I reformatted about 1 month ago, so it's a pretty fresh install and I haven't installed much of anything yet.
    I'm using Windows Vista Enterprise 32-bit w/SP1.
This was occurring with older versions of SQL Developer (1.2). I'm using the newest install that included the Java JDK. I've completely removed Java, my Oracle installs, and a host of other attempts to fix this, and nothing changes. I've tried running the .exe in the bin directory as administrator as well.
    Currently using Oracle Developer 1.5.1.54.40.
    Any ideas?

I tried dumping the contents, but the java dump wasn't showing anything at all, and it would never freeze while I had the console window in focus, so it wasn't very helpful unfortunately.
I fixed this issue by uninstalling the Java runtime on this machine and installing the Java JDK 6 Update 7 from java.sun.com/javase/downloads . I then downloaded the SQL Developer 1.5.1 version without the Java runtime included, and pointed it to the Update 7 .exe file upon first load.
I was using JDK 6 Update 6 previously, and it must have been behind the errors. Note that the Update 7 has to be downloaded from that website as it's a new version that hasn't been posted on the regular java.com site yet.

  • Do not buy a 4510L - internet randomly hangs while browsing - likely 4G network issues

Ok, so I was excited to jump into a 4G wifi hotspot. I did some quick research and noticed the Samsung 4G hotspot was having some internet connection issues. Samsung had released an update but I didn't want to bother. I mentioned to the Verizon Wireless sales person the hotspot issues and she mentioned she hadn't seen any issues with the Samsung or Mifi device... so I purchased the mifi4510L... and so starts the nightmare!
So the mifi4510L device started up and I connected to the internet. My connection speed was slower than my 3G ATT smartphone. I restarted the device a few times and finally noticed really high speeds both down and up. Apparently upon reading the manual, at first it was flashing yellow (3G connection) and after 30 minutes it finally found the 4G (flashing green) with 4 bars.
I immediately start noticing that when I'm working, websites start to randomly hang... using windows xp. I restarted the device numerous times, took out the battery, sim card and it still would hang on random websites. So I tried using my personal Windows 7 laptop... same problem... how about my Android smartphone on wifi... same problem... oh and an old laptop I have at home with Windows Vista... same problem.
So, of course, the first thing to do is jump on google to see if this is a wide spread problem with mifi. The problem is though, that many people don't know how to describe the problem. I saw a few instances of people having somewhat similar problems and exchanging the device numerous times and even switching out sim cards.
By now it is very late at night/early morning. I thought since many people seem to be having issues maybe Verizon customer service would be aware of the problem and could help. Well now I was talking to someone who barely speaks english. He has no idea about what this mifi thing is and has never dealt with any tech support regarding the device. I was put on hold while he researched the issue, I asked about resetting the device, and he mentioned the Mifi has no reset button... later, I found a pdf of the manual and found the reset button..I was working in the dark and never noticed it was right there in front of me, So before I hung up the phone, Verizon customer service promised they would call within 48hrs and give me an update on what they had found... It's been a month and still no call.
So a week later, the problem is still occurring, even at different locations with 4bars on 4G. I decided to stop by the Verizon wireless store. I asked about issues with the mifi and was told there weren't any issues. I found this strange since I had now seen so many posts online about the problems people were having. I tried every salesman in the store and was told the same. Ok so now I wanted to try out the Samsung hotspot. At first I was told I could only exchange it for another mifi... then they said oh I would just have to pay a restocking fee. Some online posts seemed to suggest that exchanging the device and sim card helped so I did just that. I made it home, and the first thing I notice is that now I had no sim card... a trip back to the store to pick up the sim card. It took about 10-15 minutes before it established the 4G connection but I was back up and running. I was online for about 10 minutes and no hang so I went to bed.
Another week goes by and  now I am really frustrated. Calls to Verizon are the typical; there are no problems, just reset, restart,or go exchange for a new one.
And now I found the following video that suggests it's the 4G network itself.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AQMMK87N2g
Verizon is supposed to be a great company! Why would they destroy their reputation just to make a quick few million dollars. The Customer Service/tech support was a horrible experience and the 4G network doesn't seem to work properly.
A call tonight to Verizon concluded with "well with any new technology there are bound to be some issues, over time Verizon should have some type of fix".
Where is the class action lawsuit?!?!

JV1, if you are early enough to get out of the contract, do it! If you browse through these forums (and other on internet) you will find this is Verizon 4G, it will NOT get better anytime soon. This problem has existed since launch, through the 4510L is the worst device they have, it's not the culprit, I have had all of them.  It is the network.
Oh and by the way, Verizon isn't stupid, someone else pointed out to me the small print on the contract prohibits you from pursuing a class action suit against them.  All disputes have to be settled by arbitration which is binding per contract.  Guess they knew this would happen......

  • MSI P35 Neo-F (MS-7360): Computer randomly freezes while playing games

    Hi there,
I have reached the end of my technical knowledge right now and I'm not even sure if this area of the forum is appropriate. The problem:
While playing higher-end games like Crysis 2, Anno 1404, Mass Effect 2 etc. my computer randomly freezes and the last few milliseconds of sound are being looped on my speakers (kind of like a buzzing sound).
By "freezing" I mean that my computer becomes unresponsive to any action other than pressing the Reset-Button or holding down the Power-Up-Button (no reaction to Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, no mouse movement... you get it).
There's no exact timing as to when these freezes occur. The fastest freeze happened after less than a minute of playing a game, slowes one (just today after switching to my newer case with better cooling) took about 2 hours.
This freeze only occurs while my System is under load. No freezes while browsing the web, using office programs, listening to music or watching videos.
    System Specs:
        Mainboard: MSI P35 Neo-F (MSI-7360)
        CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
        RAM: 4x 1GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2
Graphics: Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 620W (upgraded from Xilence XP600, 600W)
New CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 13 Pro (upgraded from OEM Intel Boxed Cooler)
New Case: Zalman Z9 Plus w/ 4x 120 mm Fans (Upgraded from a Case with only 1x 250mm side Fan)
        2 Western Digital HDD (1x 2TB, 1x320 GB)
1 DVD Reader/Burner (unimportant for that error I guess)
        OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
        2 Screens: 1x 24" Asus VS248H and 1x 21" LG Flatron Wide W2240T
Since this error is bugging me for quite a while now and since this is not the first forum I'm trying to get help from, here's a list of steps i already took to get rid of it, obviously to no good use:
reinstalled games where the freeze occurred
updated all Drivers (including cleaning old versions in safe mode; also tried older drivers)
        updated BIOS to v1.A0
        Reinstalled Windows
bought new Case and CPU Cooler to improve Air Flow/Cooling
checked Seating of all components (took out, cleaned, reapplied thermal grease where neccessary, re-inserted)
cleaned old case of dust (obviously no problem in the new case, which is 2 days "old")
ran 7 sequences of Memtes86+ without any errors
ran Prime95 without any errors for about 45 Minutes
ran Furmark for 15 Minutes under full load (burn-in test) without any problems, even though my graphics card hit the 100°C frequency-cut level
ran Furmark and Prime95 simultaneously without any problems
took records of component temperatures and system voltages without noticing anything unusual (at least not after i switched to the newer PSU, which is about 1 Month old - yet didn't resolve the problem)
tested with cyclic removal of 1 RAM device to further rule out RAM malfunction
tested with only 2 RAM devices in dual channel mode (Slots 1 and 3)
tried to reduce RAM clock (800 MHz --> 667 MHz) to no avail
checked S.M.A.R.T. values of HDDs, no issues reported
        tested without any background programs
raised/lowered voltages to RAM, CPU and Chipset in BIOS to increase logic circuit stability/decrease heat production
I need to mention: After I transferred my system to the new case, i was able to play longer than average compared to my old case. So I am guessing that improper cooling was part of the problem, yet improving cooling obviously didn't resolve it.
Since these freezes are really annoying and nobody could help me resolve this so far, I'm hoping to find some new ways of narrowing down the problem or even getting rid of it here.
    Regards
    Sebb

Lets be realistic. A system with a 560TI is recommended to have a around 31Amps under full load, a CX500 would be sufficient.
Have you monitored your CPU and memory utilisation ?
As suggested before, test the GPU in another computer to see if the behaviour is the same.
Whew, I thought for a second there that my common sense had left me when I saw that 60-Amp-Post ^^
Yes, I monitored CPU and RAM usage, there is no recognizeable pattern to be seen and it almost never happens under full load.
I will see if a friend of mine can test my GPU on his computer, and I will test it underclocked right away.
Though one more question regarding that: Should I only underclock GPU Core Clock or both Core and RAM clock?

  • 10.5.6 random hang under load

I upgraded two machines to 10.5.6. Since then, both have experienced random hangs -- cursor switches to busy spin, keystrokes are ignored, and the only way to regain control is to power off.
The firewall was disabled recently to install our network backup tools. I enabled firewall on one
of the machines, a Mac Pro (two interfaces, but only en0 is being used) . It hung today at about 8:30 AM:

Network Manager shows "Ethernet 2" as Not Connected,
    Status: cable is unplugged.
In the past, the port was used for "connection sharing", and there was a
cable plugged in with the other end disconnected, so it could be picking
up RF. I removed the interface from the NM list.

    Greetings,
You have something else wrong there, I updated my own 5 Macs, and 60 at the work site with no real troubles at all.
Dreamweaver works for me, as well as CS4, Suitcase, and many other heavy hitters. Mail, Safari, and all the standard apps that are part of Leopard, as well as iLife, and iWork, and Office 2008 all work fine.
I would uninstall DreamWeaver, and then re-install it. One person I know, not part of my group had similar issues as yours, and did just that, a re-install and it works fine now.
Like was stated in another post, there is some kind of corruption there. The update is not bad at all, in fact the only thing I noticed was, on one of my machines I have external speakers, and I get a loud pop at start up, but that will be fixed soon. That sort of thing is not that big an issue.
    Good Luck - Happy Holidays.
    Cheers,
    M.

  • Acrobat 7.0 Standard Random Hangs on scan-to-pdf

Scan to pdf will randomly hang about 3/4 of the way through a multi-page document scan with no error or warning messages.
Acrobat totally hangs (can't even move the window) and I have to kill the process in the task manager at which time a message appears saying "the process is waiting for input from you". There are no dialogs for input displayed.
System: WinXP, scanner is Dell 964 all in one, Acrobat 7.1.0.
I routinely scan multiple pages in the dell utility without problems.
Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this or provide a method for debugging?
    Thanks.

If you can use AA7 on Win 7, you may be successful. However, you will have to print to the Adobe PDF print. If you were using an earlier version of WORD (2003), then PDF Maker may work. In any case, AcroTray will likely not work. That means you will have to print to the Adobe PDF printer with print-to-file selected. Then open that file in Distiller to complete the process. A bit combersome, but may work. I have done it with AA5 and Win 7 starter -- a bit of a pain and an upgrade is really appropriate. If you have a 64 bit system, you may be totally out of luck.
So, you may be successful in getting AA7 to work in some sense. Do not expect perfection of no errors. Good luck.

  • SRSS4.1 + SR270 + SRWC2.1 randomly hangs on 26D

    Dear Forum Users,
SunRay SR270 randomly hangs on OSD 26D.
We have two (2) sunray servers (2x T1000 on Solaris 10 10/08 ) and 51 SR270 clients. When user insert smartcard in sunray client, the sunray client will get dhcp ip from sunray server. Then SR270 will connect to Windows XP in VMWare ESX via SRWC2.1
Sometime when user insert the smartcard, they won't get Windows XP login window but hang and users can see OSD26D. If this problem happens, users will press Ctrl-Moon and the problem fixed after that This problem will happen randomly in all sunray clients.
    When one of the users sees OSD26D, i can see some error (CONFIG_ERROR) messages in sunray messages file;

Was an issue ever logged for this? We are experiencing the same problem. I would like to know if/how the issue was resolved.
It appears to be an issue with error handling in the HTTP BC. When we turned on profiling, we noticed the HTTPBC-JAXWS-Engine and HTTPBC-OutboundReceiver threads were locking. However, I can't tell 1) if the BPEL SE is producing bad data that is causing the HTTP BC to go down, 2) why an issue in one thread for lock the other threads, and 3) why the issue is intermittent and not more consistent.

  • Computer Randomly Freezing withing past few weeks

    Hi,
more recently my computer randomly will freeze up several times of the day either if I'm just sitting here doing something on it or go away for awhile to find that it has froze. Sometimes when It freezes though, everything will be frozen and unclickable, but yet the mouse will still be able to move around. Control, Alt, Delete will not work at this time either. So I then will have no choice but to turn it off and back on from the power button. If you need any more info to help acess the problem, feel free to ask.
    Could use some help.
    Important details:
I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE
    Operating System: Windows 7
Virus Protection: Kaspersky Internet Security 2014
Age of computer: Aprox. 5 y/o

    123,
At the least, eliminating possible "trouble spots" makes it easier to find the underlying reasons that things are not working as they should.
You might spend some time staring at the Resource Monitor to see if any one or two processes are hogging the CPU or perhaps creating another type of bottleneck.
Another thing to look for:  Too many or the wrong kind of browser addons.  Some of the addons are pretty nice;  some addons can end up costing you CPU cycles while they spin and check and process whatever information they must digest.
    Happy New Year 2014!
    Kind Regards,

  • Photoshop CS5 Randomly Hangs on New iMac

    Running on: Mac OSX 10.6.8          8GB RAM          Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 X64
    Dear all,
Designers running CS5 on new Mac hardware are experiencing random hangs with Photoshop.
This seems to be happening with no particular pattern EG: not when performing a specific action.
The hangs can last for a few minutes during which time the applicaiton becomes unusable and you get the spinning wheel of doom, the rest of the OS runs fine.
The problem does correct itself after five minutes and then the program becomes usuable again.
Any thoughts on this gratefully recieved. These are newly built computers and are not running many simultaneous applications.
    Kind regards
    Gareth

    Hi Charles,
Many thanks for your prompt response.
The only action which seems to lead to the hanging is Dragging (they think) we are unable to make it happen.
What I mean is we can't make it happen on demand, it seems to be random.
Clicking on the type tool does not seem to be a problem, is this a known issue?
    Thanks
    Gareth

  • My computer randomly shuts down and won't restart.

My computer randomly shut down and would not restart. I took it to an apple store and they fixed it by running something through the disk utility. I was told to run something else (it had to do with what the computer does when it shuts down as I don't shut mine down a lot). It had been running when the guy showed me it at the upper right corner and said "initializing" but I did not remember what it was called when I got home and it was no longer open. Any one have a similar problem where this was suggested and remembers what is it called?

    Try a SMC reset.

  • My computer Randomly reboots

I am trying to build a computer for my sister for christmas.  I have everything up and running, except the computer randomly crashes.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.  I can't reproduce the problem on command, sometimes it works for hours, other times it works for minutes.
crash = screen goes blank, monitor power saving light comes on,  computer locks up, I have to unplug the power for 5 or so mins, and turn the computer back on.
First thing I though was the ram timings were set to fast.  So i took it down to the spd levels.  Didn't fix the problem
Then I thought the powersupply might be bad, so I replaced it with a more powerful one.  Currently running a 400W +12v antec power supply.  Didn't fix the problem.
Then I thought it could be an overheating problem.  I know how to choose a good fan, and properly install it.  I've overclocked several computer with lots of success.  Although I'm not trying to overclock this one.  Anyways, I installed a temperature monitoring program, and the temps never get above 54C under full load, even after several hours.  Also the computer crashes during non intensive computing times, IE: word processing.
I thought maybe it was a video card problem, so I uninstalled the video card drivers (ati 9200) and installed a gf4 ti 4200, and installed the latest nvidia drivers.  Didn't fix the problem.
I then figured I had bad ram or a faulty cpu.  I returned the ram and the cpu and bought new ones.  Didn't fix the problem.
I updated my bios, and this didn't fix the problem.
I have windows xp pro sp1 installed and all critical updates.  I have the inf files installed for the chipset, the newest sound, video, net, etc drivers.  Didn't fix the problem.
I don't have any crazy software installed, just windows and office + updates + virus scanner.
I formated the system, reinstalled all software, and drivers, started crashing before I could finish downloading the windows updates.
the mother board came with the device that sits in an expansion slot with some led diagnostic lights on the back.  There are 4 lights, and they are normally all 4 green.  When the computer does its crash thingy, the lights numbered 1 and 4 turn red. According to my motherboard manual this means "processor initilization"
    Specs:
    Msi neo2 865pe
intel p4 2.6 800mhz fsb HyperThread turned on
    2x256mb Kingston pc3200 cl2. (khx3200ak2/512) (dual channel on)
    Ati Radeon 9200
    Maxtor 40 gb 7200rpm ata133
    antec 400w +12v power supply
I'll be happy to provide you with any info necessary to help me fix the problem.
    Thank you,
    Colapser

There is an option in BIOS to enable or disable HT.
I know that you've bought a HT enabled processor for the HT support, but just try and see if the problem is solved 1st before seeking out some workarounds to get HT enabled problem free .

  • Firefox 4 randomly hangs for a few seconds

When im browsing, Firefox 4 randomly hangs for ~10 seconds saying its "Not Responding", then it returns to normal.
I dont seem to see a pattern on when it hangs, sometimes its when i open new pages, sometimes im just scrolling, sometimes i'm not doing anything...
It didnt seem to happen before i updated to FFx 4
My best guess is it happens when its trying to "Sync"?
It's not that bad, but it gets annoying after a while.

It is also possible that Firefox is doing maintenance to places.sqlite (bookmarks and history). If you keep a large history or have a lot of bookmarks then you can check that out as well. Also make sure that security (anti-virus) software isn't blocking access to files in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder].
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
    See:
    * [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty - Computer randomly freezes accompanied by a single be

I just bought my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty Pro Series and my computer randomly freezes for up to 0 seconds and I hear a single beep from my internal computer speaker after which my system goes back to normal for about 5 to 0 minutes and then it repeats the same process. I have upgraded all my drivers for my motherboard, including flashing my bios to an updated version, and I ran the creative software auto update from the website and updated the drivers and software and I'm still having the same issue. I am running a Dell XPS 400 system:?Dell DXP05 MotherboardPentium D830 Dual Core Smithfield @ 3.0Ghz2 gigs ramXFX Nvidia GeForce 7900GS 256mb Video Cardand X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty Pro Series Card?Any thoughts? I've read similar posts however none seem to be the same as my issue.

    Hi,
Did this happen right out of the box or do you own the card for some time now?
Just in case, please ensure that the sound card is firmly seated on the pci slot.
