Computer randomly losing power after being serviced

My computer was just recently serviced after the motherboard was apparently damaged (the hard drive could not be located within the computer). After getting it back, I began using it regularly again, being slightly more cautious. It hasn't been more than five days and already I'm having issues, this time with power. I'm not exactly sure what is going on, but all I know is that one minute I'll be playing a game or working on music, and the next minute the computer just dies. It takes it a bit to be able to be powered up again, but the lap isn't showing any signs of overheating. Is there anything that I can do to fix this without needing to send it in again? (I'd rather not be without it again for 3 weeks, but if it boils down to it I will send it in again.)

  • IMac randomly losing power

My 2006 Intel CoreDuo iMac has started randomly losing power. Without warning it will just power off as if someone has switched the wall socket off.
I've managed to power it back up again about 4 times after which it just does it again.
Once power is lost the only way I can get it to work again is to keep taking the memory out, putting it back in, try to switch it on, take it out again, put it back in, try to switch it on again, etc. until randomly it works again!
I've tried resetting PRAM by unpluging everything leaving it 15 seconds and then nothing... I've also managed to do a CTRLCOMMAND+PR when it was working.
    Now it's gone again
Anyone any idea what might be the problem here?
I have no AppleCare so the iMac is out of warranty and the internal DVD drive no longer burns properly either. Should I give up on this Mac and put the money towards a new iMac (with AppleCare this time!) or is it going to be worth trying to get it fixed. My thoughts are that the local Apple Service Centre might take ages to determine the problem and try various things and then might not even be able to fix it.
Could it be the logic board? Power supply?
How much is a new logic board and DVD burner?
    Thanks,
    Neil

My iMAC was doing the same; it finally died and wouldn't power at all. The tech at the apple store stated they have seen a few bad power supply cables that are the cause of the issue.

  • My Macbook Pro (early 2011, 15") randomly shuts down after being turned on from sleep mode?

-So over the past week, I find that my macbook pro will randomly shut down within 1 minute of being turned on from sleep mode. Within the first few days of this, I figured out that it will only happen if I move my mac around before its completely into sleep mode. BUT now it shuts down regardless or preparation before sleep mode and everytime I turn my computer back on, I log in, and then have restore my chrome window tabs and stuff. What is going on??
-Do I need to replace my drive??
    *PLEASE help me, thanks!
    P.S. - I am runnng OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5

    austine38,
if you boot into Safe mode, and then immediately restart into normal mode, log in, and put it to sleep, does it still exhibit the same random shutdowns afterwards?

  • Battery Losing Power After One Day in Europe

So I'm on a study abroad trip to Prague. Before leaving, my laptop had it's original battery life of a little over 3 hours with the screen mostly dimmed. Ever since I've had it plugged in, my computer fan has been really loud despite being asleep for at least 8 hours two days in a row and not running any programs other than firefox and the skype buddy list (not even a call) and when I unplugged my laptop the battery life had dropped to 2 hours and 17 minutes with the screen mostly dimmed. I'm curious, has this happened to anyone else? Does this mean that the European electrical current has ruined my battery and I have to buy a new one when I get back to the states?
    Thanks!

I've just been going through this here in the States. My machine was running hot and the fan seemed to be on all the time and my battery was draining excessively. So when I called yesterday I was told:
    1. take the battery out
    2. wait 30 seconds
    3. hold down the power button for about ten seconds with the battery out (the machine will not power on, but this will reset your hardware)
    4. put the battery back in
    5. re-power the machine
Your laptop should run quieter and the battery should last longer. Mine seems to be doing so.
    Cheers.

  • Battery randomly losing power...

So, my Apple power adapter started acting strange; I had to fidget with the part that goes into the computer to get it to light up, and most of the time it wouldn't stay lit long. I looked around on the website, and it seemed that it was, well, dying/the pin was damaged. I went and got a Macally adapter, and it worked fine for about a month, and then my computer lost power (while plugged in) all the way to zero and shut itself off. I managed to get it recharged with the old, mostly broken adapter. The Macally was fine for a while, and then my computer went to 0% again, but stayed on, using the power from the wall alone. The battery wouldn't recharge, went to X eventually. I reset the PMU, and it seems to be charging again (or at least it thinks it is... still at 0...), but I'm not really sure what caused this or if it will happen again. I've had the computer for a little over two years; is the battery maybe giving out? Even so, I can't figure out why it shut itself off the first time while plugged in via the Macally. Did the loss of power from the old adapter damage the battery in some way? Do I need a new one, or should I just rely on resetting the PMU whenever this happens again?

You might want to check on the health of your battery by going to "About this Mac">More Info>Power and see what it says about the health of your battery. But it does sound like it may be on its way out. I don't know if the faulty power adaptor was a problem other than it might not have been able to charge the battery properly.
This is the iBook forum, but I would expect the PowerBook to be similar to an iBook.
You might want to download "iStatPro" from the Apple site--it is a widget that makes it easy to keep track of the health of your battery.
    Good luck!

  • Windows 7 64 bit won't resume after being locked

    Hello,
My Windows 7 Pro computer will not resume after being locked.
I use a Domain controller based on Windows server 2008 R2, and if I login with my username on any other PC, I do not have this Problem.
When I lock it to go out for some reason, it won't resume at all. I left it on the welcome screen for an hour or so, and it didn't start.
Do you guys have any idea what might be causing this ?
Thank you very much for your help

If this behavior is not exhibited on any other systems in your environment, I believe it's safe to assume the issue is with the local client.
First things first: check that you have the latest drivers for your system. I know this seems like a canned answer, but I've seen hundreds of cases where a missing or legacy disk controller driver causes all manner of strange behavior on an otherwise healthy
    system.
Years ago, when SSDs first starting becoming popular, I purchased a handful of them from a specific vendor. We started seeing issues with resuming from S3 sleep that confounded us for months. We found out that the vendor used a specific brand and chipset
on their SSD controllers that wound up causing firmware faults when Windows was resumed; even to the point that we had to shut down the PC, unplug it, and let the caps drain before we could boot it again!
We wound up replacing the drives with a more mainstream/popular brand and the issues never happened again, but the problem was hardware related. Your post reminded me of those few months of confusion.
Check that all of your drivers are up to date, esp. disk and video, and don't rely on the Microsoft generic drivers. If you can find the drivers for your mobo/gfx cards, prefer that route.

  • Links to external files do nothing after being burned to disk

I built a product catalog a while ago in CS4 and now I've had to edit it in InDesign CS5. With InDesign CS4, everything worked fine. The files were linked and then all the file were burned to disk, all the files worked on the disk (links, etc). I have since edited the files in InDesign CS5. I build the catalog, created all the links (interior within the same pdf, links to external pdfs and other file types). Everything works on the computer  but somehow fails after being burned to disk.
    My sequence  was like this:
Set up product catalog last year with links and files, everything was fine and worked as expected.
Opened the file, made my edits.
Made links between the pdf's pages and from the pdf to external pdfs and videos etc. All of these links work in the pdf.
Burn the files to a disk
Some of the old links work
All the links within the main pdf work
None of the new links to external files work. I click the link and nothing happens. The paths are exactly the same as the previous version
    I have tried:
Examining the links, everything is based on pseudo relative paths (last year it worked fine)
Burning the disk on a Mac and a Windows XP
Please help. Any and all help is very much apprecitated.

    I figured it out.
I created the links in InDesign by making an interactive link to a file. When I open the file in Acrobat, the links work fine over the network. I burn to disk and the links no longer work.
Problem: At some point, InDesign changes the "open file" hyperlink command in InDesign into a URL webpage request in Acrobat.
Solution: So basically, I now have to go into the file in Acrobat and change all the buttons from "open web link" to "open file." It's only a product catalog with about 1,200 links that's due today.

  • Satellite L870-165 does not work after being repaired by their service

Laptop Toshiba warranty does not work after being repaired by their service twice.
    Model: Satellite L870-165
Computer will not boot, stays with black screen stating: No bootable device-Please restart your system
After reboot still happening the same.
I called Toshiba phone incident and after trying several options I said take him to repair the service.
They first told me it was the hard drive, then phoned me to indicate that reinstalling and finally it was the motherboard, which supposedly changed. The day after being picked computer repair returned to give exactly the same error, only malfunctioned one evening.
After another call to 902 the Toshiba warranty service, I went back to take the service, this time I changed the hard drive. When I got home the computer did not start even once, again gives the same error.
I believe that this team comes with a factory default so that its solution is not easy because even the technical service told me that I did not know what else to do with it.

    >Computer will not boot, stays with black screen stating: No bootable device-Please restart your system
This message pops up because the notebook cannot find the Windows system.
There could be either an problem with the HDD or maybe the HDD is OK but the Windows system isnt preinstalled properly.
You said that the service agent changed the HDD. But did someone install the Windows system?
You can try to do it yourself take your recovery disk (hopefully you created such disk in the past) and boot from the recovery disk in order to install the system.
In case booting from the Disk would not be possible, go to BIOS (F2) and disable the secure boot and change from UEFI to CSM mode

  • My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens

My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens. PLEASE HELP

I have a similar (if not the exact same) problem! Here are some more details if they are helpful.
My iPhone 4 died earlier today and will not turn back on. It seemed that the battery died while it was not in use. I attempted to charge it on one charging cord in multiple wall outlets and none worked. Assuming it was a malfunction in the cord, I took my phone home to try charging it there.
Again, I attempted charging it in multiple outlets with a different cord than previously used. None of these seemed to work, though they would flash the Connect to Power screen for a brief moment before returning to a black screen. I assumed that my phone was simply so depleted of battery that it needed a long charge.
I charged it for 30+ minutes without any success, then attempted to charge it through my MacBook instead of through a wall outlet. iTunes did not even recognize that my phone plugged in (and still hasn't). I've attempted charging it for an extended period of time (1+ hour) with no luck. Sometimes when I press the Power button it will flash the Connect to Power screen once more before returning to black.
The Apple logo never appears, nor does any apparent progress on charging. I have attempted holding down the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 10 - 30 second increments. Still no luck. There is no reason anything should be happening with this phone that I can identify.
I have no warranty and just recently replaced my previous phone which had had similar problems before completely crashing. This is a phone new to me that was previously used but in almost new conditions and factory reset by Apple prior to my purchase.
Does this mean that my phone battery is dead?
Is there anything else I can do??

  • Ipod disconnects immediately after being connected to computer

Every time I plug my iPod into my computer it says "Connecting" then it says "Ejecting" and then "OK to disconnect"! WHY????? It does not show up in the sidebar in iTunes, and it does not show up in My Computer.
I have plugged it into every USB port on my computer, none of them worked
    I have already updated iTunes.
I have already put the iPod in disk mode.. that did NOTHING.
I know it's not a problem with my USB ports, because other devices work JUST FINE in them
I know it's not an issue with the USB cable because I plugged my iPod into another computer and my iPod did not disconnect right after being connected
PLEASE help me get my iPod to work on this computer. And I don't want answers telling me to use the other computer. My Library is on THIS computer. Not only that, iTunes doesn't even work on the other computer.

  • Screen/Computer does not Power Up when life the Display from being Closed

Sometimes (not always), when i come back to my MacBook Pro and open the display after it has been closed for a bit, the screen and computer does not power back up or anything. If you look at the screen there is a very FAINT image on the screen of whatever was open when the screen was closed, but you can't do anything, nothing is responsive, etc. I have to hold down the power button until it turns off, and then right before it turns off the screen will power up for one second and then shuts off. Any ideas?

I am having a similar issue when transitioning from my external display via the Mini Display to DVI adapter back to the internal LCD. The screen will go black, the machine will not sleep if I close the lid, and none of they key commands appear to work. The only response I can get is the caps lock key will turn off and on. When I restart the machine, I get no details on a Kernel Panic, or anything else, so wondering if it has something to do with the video drivers.
