Computer received virus, lost all original songs

My Pc was infected last week by a bad virus. I was forced to format my hard drive and reinstall all software. I copied all songs to a sandisk( removable drive ) but now Itunes can not find original song. Over 200 songs @ $1.00 a pop alot of money, Can someone please help.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You have to put the songs back in the iTunes music folder. It is located in My Documents-->My Music-->iTunes-->iTunes Music
Or, in iTunes, go to edit-->preferences. Hit the advanced tab. Check "Keep iTunes Music folder organized"
Click ok.
Now drag all of the songs into iTunes while viewing the library. They should copy to your harddrive, as long as the iTunes Music folder is located on your harddrive (see top of image). Note that you may have duplicates. You may want to delete all the songs from iTunes and then drag the backups back in.
Make sure they are on your harddrive and work without the backup Sandisk connected. Check by going to My Documents-->My Music-->iTunes-->iTunes Music
Please post back if you are confused about one part or another so you don't lose your music.

  • Move account onto another computer...lost all my songs :(

    Hello,
I am very new to computers and my ipod nano. I went to set it up at my home computer and I lost all the songs that were already on my ipod. How do you get them back?
    Appricate any help!
    ~thanks!

Hopefully the songs are still on your computer somewhere.
You can go to the XP Start menu > Search function and have a look. Enter the appropriate extension for the files (*.mp3, *.m4a, *.m4p are the most likely) and see what comes up.
Here are some other tips on finding lost files:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301749
If they're not on your computer but are still on your nano, have a look at MacMuse's post on recovering music from an iPod. Read it over slowly and carefully before proceeding. Post back if anything's not clear.
A very important lesson to be learned from this incident is that from now on you should always make sure you have a back-up copy of your music (or any other information stored on your computer that you consider to be valuable). Otherwise sometime, somehow, somewhere when you least expect it, you'll end up losing it.
I hope that's not the case this time but remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

  • I wiped my computer and iTunes did not remember songs ect when reinstalled it and have I lost all my songs. Doesn't the Apple ID sign in keep all your details??

I wiped my computer and when I reinstalled iTunes, none of my songs ect were listed. Have I lost all my songs for good and need to redownload and copy my CDs???
Why doesn't the Apple ID remember everything for when you change computers or do a wipe? So frustrated and unhappy now.

Songs you upload into iTunes via MP3 file or CD are stored locally.   You would need to do those again if you wiped your hard drive (assuming you didn't have a backup of your iTunes library)
Songs you download through iTunes are downloadable again with your ID at no additional charge.

  • I just got a new Macbook Pro, plugged my iPod into it and lost all my songs on my iPod.  How do I get them back?

I just got a new MacBook Pro, plugged my iPod into it and noticed all my songs didn't transfer, including the 6 new ones I just purchased.  I then brought it back to my PC to sync, and lost all my songs on my iPod.  I'm now receiving all kinds of weird messages that the name of my iPod is a duplicate and cannot be synced (no matter what I put in it).  During the process of loading it on my Mac., a bunch of odd emails were popping up to sync.  I just kept deleting and adding mine.  Is it corrupted? What have I done??? I am a personal trainer and live by my iPod.  Please help.

Your post is abit confusing, especially on getting those weird messages and emails,( assumed in your Windows machine.)
Most likely you have Restored the iPod using the new Macbook pro, using the same name as that in your Windows machine, hence the duplicate name warning, as it is trying to sync Automatically.
If you are syncing your iPod to both the Mac and Windows, you must set it to Manually Manage Music, in the first machine that you setup iTunes with the iPod. Read thsi Apple Support Article
In iTunes, Preference, tick on Prevent devices syncing automatically
Hopefully your music are still in both your iTunes library,
Connect the iPod to the Mac
Restore it (just to fix any filesystem corruption by the Windows end)
Set it to Manually Manage Music
Sync your selected songs in your library.
    Whern sync complete, Eject it
Connect it to your Windows PC.
Select the song in the library
    Sync it.
It should work if your ipod Hardisk is not giving any problem.
    Good luck!

  • I updates my iPod before syncing it and lost all my song how can I see what song i lost?

From your backup that is in iTunes or in iCloud or resync them from your computer.

  • Help, lost all the songs on my iPod when checked the box titled "Replace all items when Autofilling" in my Autofill Settings window.

Help, I lost all the songs on my iPod when I deleted a few songs from my iTunes Library, checked the box titled "Replace all items when Autofilling" in my Autofill Settings window, and then tried to Autofill. Note that I do not purchase songs from iTunes, but rather I rip songs off my own cd's and then transfer the mp3 files to iTunes.  And after I transfer mp3 files from my pc to iTunes and then Autofill, I generally delete those files from my pc.
I can still see the songs in my iTunes Library, but not on my iPod.  Is there a way that I can salvage them and get them back on my iPod?
    Thanks in advance.

Well you will have to wait to connect you ipod to the orignal computer and it will put all your songs back on to it.

How did you get your songs onto your iPod Touch?
If purchase directly from iTunes you can download them again.
If your iPod is synced to iTunes on a Windows PC, then, sync your iPod to that computer.
If this is your first Mac, are you migrating from a Windows PC?

  • HT4914 When I subscribed to iTunes Match I lost all my songs. I did a back up of my ITunes Library to iCloud but I can't find the songs! Can someone help me?

When I subscribed to iTunes Match I lost all my songs. I did a back up of my ITunes Library to iCloud but I can't find the songs! Can someone help me?

I guess the iTunes store is not recognizing your computer. Did you de-authorise your computer after you uploaded to iTunes Match. Did you register your new computer with a different User ID? Do you have Genius turned on (which needs to be on as it works in conjunction with iTunes Match. Did you authorise your new computer?
You paid for ITunes match & uploaded your songs using a different computer. So there are obviously one or more steps which need to be taken to download your media from the iCloud. Either someone else with more expertise than I can help you, for example, Limnos Limnos ; or King_Penguin King_Penguin or Chris_CA https://discussions.apple.com/people/Chris%20CA would probably be able to help you better than I.
    I don't work for Apple, I'm only a volunteer, if you can't get help from someone as mentioned above there's always Kappy (who is extremely busy) Kappy ;
then I would recommend going through the tried and true channel here > http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Sorry I couldn't solve your problem myself. I'm about ready to retire from this game.
    Peace Out.

  • I pressed"SYNC" and lost all the songs I downloaded from many cd's, how can I get all of them back? please help. I'm so frustrated!

i pressed "SYNC" and lost all the songs from many cd's that I loaded to my library, how can I get them all back?

When you say "account," do you mean your iTunes library, because your iTunes library is what is on your computer?  Your iTunes library does not have an email address.  An account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID (which is an email address) and you use it as your user name to sign in to the iTunes Store, to make purchases.  Changing your Apple ID will not make songs disappear from your computer's iTunes library.
If you had an Apple ID and used it to make song purchases from the iTunes Store, and then started using a different Apple ID, you should be able to re-download the songs purchased with the old Apple ID.  In iTunes, sign in to the iTunes Store using your OLD Apple ID (and password).  That may not be your current email address, but Apple uses it as your user name, so it does not matter.
On the iTunes Store Home screen, click on Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  This takes you do the Purchased screen, where you can re-download previous song purchases (for that Apple ID) at no cost.
NOTE:  If those song purchases are from more than a few years ago, you may also need to authorize your computer to play (and sync) songs for your old Apple ID.
For songs that were not purchased from the iTunes Store, if they are also gone, you cannot get them back unless you have a backup (or they are still loaded on your old iPod).
If that's not what you mean by "changed the email address on my account," please post back with more details.

  • HT203167 Computer crashed and lost all music.  How can I get a listing of all prior purchases and get them downloaded again?

Compaq computer crashed and lost all music that was on the computer. How would I go about getting a listing of all purchased items and download them again? I know when i first got set up it said I could download up to 2 times when purchased and I have only downloaded once.  But need a listing of songs as well.

One thing that I also recommend in the future is to back your iTunes library up relatively regularly.  You can get your purchases in the cloud just fine, typically, but at the very least, it will save some time by backing it up.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
