Have you recharge your iPod for at least 2 hours, preferably till the Full charge Battery symbol comes ON.?

  • I have the iPhone 3GS and I was updating to the IOS 5 version when at the end of the update it said updated failed. Now my phone is not recognized by my computer or any computer. The computer says it is a unknown device and my phone will not do anything.

Need help finding out what happened to my phone and what I can do. After trying to update my iPhone 3GS to IOS 5 my phone will no longer work and is an unknown device to any computer. It is like it wiped out everything on the iPhone and has no hardware or data on it. At the end of the download and update of IOS 5 it said there was an error during the process and gave me no option but to push ok and know phone is not working. The screen shows the USB plug and iTunes symbol, but computers will not recognize device.

What was the error number?  That would be very useful since the following gives actions for various errors.

Try manually placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if that will make the iPod visible in iTunes.  See:

  • My new 6th generation ipod is not recognized by itunes or my computer. I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the help guide and the ipod is not recognized anywhere on the computer, not even as an 'unknown device.'

I can't find any answers to this question besides a discussion from 2006 regarding a "SPTD driver installation" with a broken link.  I don't think it's the cable because I can still charge the ipod, but the device is not listed in My Computer or in the Device Manager or anywhere.  The ports work with other USB cables including my web cam.   Help, anyone?

If you uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, did you follow the steps in this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 exactly. Check and make sure.  If you did, then try this support document to get the phone into the Recovery mode. It may take more than one try. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Computer recognizes ipod as unknown and faulty USB

    Hey,
I have a first generation 4GB Ipod Nano.
It's been working fine, until yesterday.
When i plug it into the USB port in the PC, it now bleeps about 3 times per seconds for the entire duration it is plugged in, the screen doesnt light up, and i dont get anything on the screen.
Windows keeps giving me the following error: Unknown USB device connected to port, please reconnect it or replace it.
This also leads to iTunes not detecting any device connected
Whatever i do (Rebooting, restarting iTunes) nothing works, neither does it respond to manually resetting it (Center + menu button)
I left it plugged in the entire night, and it still isnt responding to anything.
Does anyone have a clue what to do?
    Looking forward to your answers
    Jason

If it's a fisrt gen nano (like I have), press and hold the menu and center button s(for about 4 seconds) until the apple logo displays. When it does, immediately press the center and left buttons until the screen flashes. You will enter iPod Diagnostics. Use the forward (right) button to scroll to last item, named "Reset". Press center button. If that does not work, start from beginning again and run the test to make sure your flash drive is not wacked. Good luck.

  • No Driver Found/iPod is an Unknown Device

    Hi,
I recently installed the updated Apple software and ever since, I haven't been able to sync up my ipod to my computer. The ipod can be charged, but it isn't found on Windows or itunes. I've tried everything from the Apple Website to fix the problem except completely wiping out everything on my ipod. I've deleted itunes 7.0 and reinstalled itunes 6.0, I've plugged it into different working usb ports and I've checked for viruses on my PC. Still no luck. I've never had this problem before on my 5th Gen ipod and was wondering how I can find the driver to fix my problem.
    Thank you for your help,
    Dennis

My iPod is recognized by my work computer using the same cord I use to plug it into my computer
    Thoughts or suggestions?
Well if it works at work, but not at home then the iPod is fine but something is wrong with your setup at home, could be USB hardware/firmware/drivers, USB drivers for other devices (I have a multi-fuction printer with a memory-card reader which interfers with all other USB drive connections when turned on) or the iTunes installation. You could try system restore going back to the last time it still worked properly which might help if it's a driver issue. Your best bet might be a clean install of Windows. Since that generaly takes time to organise & you should backup your data first I'd suggest you buy a nice big external hard drive, backup up all your data on to it, including your iTunes library & music, take it to work, and sync your iPod from there until you get around to cleaning up your machine at home.

  • Computer recognizes iPod touch 4G as iPhone and says cannot be used!

It's been recently that I updated my iPod Touch to iOS 5.0.1. It updated without any problems but now As soon as I open iTunes, it just displays a message that this iPhone cannot be used. I have updated all my drivers as directed by Apple Online Support. Someone please help!!!!

As a first step try to Reset your device.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off that shows up first).

  • New computer recognizes ipod, yet won't install

So, i recently purchased a new Gateway and I'm trying to hook up my ipod to the computer so that I can put my music on it however, the computer keeps telling me that I need software for the ipod to run.
i don't remember getting a cd with this ipod and if i did, well, good luck to me finding it.
    what do i do?

Your computer is right. You need to install latest version of iTunes from apple website in order to use your iPod. Apple does not include CD with latest iPod models. It is up to the user do download latest software. Good luck.
