  • HELP! My computer resets itself intermittently when I'm connected to the internet (WRT54G).

Around 10/10/08 I began experiencing this problem where my computer will randomly reboot itself, while using the internet. As long as the wireless network adapter is unplugged, there is no problem. This is also happening to my roomate's computer who is on the same wireless network as I am. We have been using this for over a year with no problems until now. The event log reveals this error code (see bottom of page) and from what I've been able to find out, it seems to be related to hardware/driver incompatibility possibly due to a BIOS update. I tried to download a new driver, but its a binary file and not a zip file like the website says. I don't know what I'm doing... please help.

  • Computer "reset" itself after software update

I updated my mac a few days ago, and i went to boot it up a few minutes ago and ALL of my bookmarks, private info, keychains, system preferences, etc. had been restored to the default. I did not do this manually or even accidentally. I properly shut down my computer, and booted it up to this.
    1) What the heck happened?
    2) What can I do to fix it?

I'm having the same problem, posted about it too, have not yet got an answer. Seems like something was dodgy with the last update, can't be anything else. Apparently we're not the only ones having a lot of trouble.
Question: If you change the settings in mail, dock, etc. do they remain after a reboot, or are they back to default after rebooting? And do you get an error on running iTunes along the lines of library is damaged?

  • Mac OS 10.4 reset itself

    Hi,
I was using my PowerBook G4 today like I always do. I was downloading some new icons from the apple website and I was writing a paper for school. I was pasting some of these new icons onto folders, when my customize buttons on the Finder dissappeared. I thought the computer was just having a small problem, so I restarted it.
When I did that, the entire OS was changed. The dock was reset back to factory settings (except instead of the icons appearing, they were question marks). My iTunes library was erased, as was my iPhoto library (and all of my other applications were reset). My edits to the Finder (such as backgrounds) were set back to white, and edits inside of applications were undone (for instance, my bookmarks in Safari were reset back to factory settings).
What happened? And is there a way to recover the settings I had put into the computer? It didn't delete my MS Word and Excel files, but it seems to have deleted or reset everything else. I have had no problems with my computer before. Nothing like this has ever happened to it before. Thanks for your help in advance.

    Update:
After digging around more, I've found most of my files. My iTunes music is all there for instance. However, I have to reimport the files into iTunes to get them to play.
So, my question is now... what happened? Why did my computer reset itself, but not delete my files? And how do I keep this from happening again in the future?

  • Computer is resetting itself

Hi I have a MS-6340M Ver5.0 Mainboard which I have just update the CPU to  a 2.6Ghz CPU. I have replaced the CPU fan and heat sink with one rated to 3.0Ghz.
The problem I am having is that the computer keeps resetting itself. Sometimes on start up and sometimes when I start a program, sometime during using a program.
I thought it was due to over heating? but still does it with new fan, are there any setting that I have not set corretly or do I have a faulty New CPU.
    Can some one help?

My iPhone reset itself and is now asking me to reconfigure it. I connected it to my computer to do it on iTunes, but it says that it can't... It went back to the configure screen as it was when I first got it but I've had this phone for about half a year. It was fully functional until about yesterday. Someone help.

  • Computer (Langauge) setting auto resetting itself?

I recently installed a new hard drive in my computer, haven't had any issues with it however for some odd reason the language settings reset itself this morning (after restarting my computer). I typically have English, Chinese (traditional) zhuyin, and Chinese (traditional) pinyin enabled.
Is there any reason why it might be doing this? I rarely restart my computer, hence why I only just noticed.
    I appreciate the help

Is there any reason why it might be doing this? I rarely restart my computer, hence why I only just noticed.
The only thing I can think of is that the longer you go without restarting your computer, the more chance there will be some cumulated random change in startup settings. You might try restarting every day like most and see if it continues.

  • HT1363 when I plug my I Pod into my computer when the apple logo appears it keeps resetting itself. Why is this?

When I connect my I Pod to my computer the apple logo appears it resets itself and keeps doing it. Why is this? How can I fix it?

Did you try a hard reset? Hold the On button and the Home button until it powers down but continue to hold until it begins to power up again. See if that brings any success.

  • My ipod keeps resetting itself when i plug it in to the computer, now what?

Basically, I plugged my ipod into my laptop as usual and itunes sprang up with an error message that i can't quite remember. I just remember that it mentioned a file corruption and that i should either restore the ipod settings or i should disconnect and reconnect it. I reconnected it and got the same result, then tried again. This time iTunes didn't recognise it all and within a minute of being connected my ipod reset itself. The laptop registers it, but my ipod just keeps resetting itself and i don't know what to do. I've tried resetting it and restoring default settings, so what more can i do or is a repair the only option?

Follow the steps mentioned in this article to disable the camera notification: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1501 , then try again to connect to iTunes.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Periodically resets itself

About every 20 minutes the screen on my HP Officejet Pro 8500A goes blank, then redisplays, followed by the carriage shifting sounding like the printer is resetting itself to print a job.  I'm set up on a WiFi connection and have no screen blanking set.  This resetting is VERY disconcerting as it happens with no warning.  How can I stop this periodic reset?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi HevnLgh,
I completed all of the steps you recommended and they did not solve the problem.  However two days later the problem has disappeared.
The problem was not that the printer was powering off.  Also it was not connected to a computer in any manner other than WiFi, though it did have a phone line connection to send/receive FAXes.  The printer display was blanking for a few seconds, followed by redisplay and carriage movement that sounded just like when it was getting ready to print.  However no printout resulted, nor was there any print job pending.
Now the display goes dim periodically for a few seconds, but comes back on.  However there is no longer any carriage movement or other noises.  Since the sudden noise was always the annoying factor I'm satisfied that the issue is resolved.

  • ITunes keeps resetting itself

I got my Sony VAIO laptop just before christmas and downloaded itunes from this website onto it. But every few days it resets itself and all my music, playlists and the genius sidebar disappear. To fix it I just drag and drop all the stuff in the itunes music folder back into itunes, but it's very frustrating and I shouldn't have to do it. I never experienced this with my home computer which also operates on vista. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to fix it?

The Sony Media Management software is causing a conflict with itunes.

  • My Ipod just keeps resetting itself.HELP!!!!

My 60 GB ipod video just keeps resetting itself. I have tried to reset it and plug it into my computer, what should I do??
    Windows   Windows XP

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Force an app to close: Hold down the On/Off button for a few seconds until a red slider appears,
then hold down the Home button until the app quits.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone 5 reset itself and half of my photostream got deleted!

Im so gutted, I forgot my passlock for my iPhone and it reset itself and I had over 350 photos on photostream and when i re-activated the photostream i only have 111 for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should store verything on your computer.  Have you failed to do this?
If so, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries.

  • IPod resets itself playing .m4a's (music ripped from cd's)

My new ipod video works fine playing mp3's or music from itunes store, but resets itself any time i try to listen to a song from a cd. these songs all have the .m4a file extension. what can i do to fix this?

Here is my 'tech/test report' for the day:
I plugged in the iPod to my work computer, same as yesterday. No songs in library, etc, etc.
Using the iPod as the song file source, and playing the songs using iTunes as the controlling interface, this thing played all day, hour after hour, with no resets, no issues of any type.
After ejecting the iPod and playing it on the way home, I was able to get approximately one (1) hour of play time before the iPod went into the 'AUTO-RESET' mode, by rebooting itself with no contact.
I believe we state with a high level of assurance the issue is neither MECHANICAL (i.e. a bad or tempermental hard-drive) or due to bad files. The iPod did what it was supposed to do for hours when using an external (i.e. Workstation) user interface (iTunes). Although possible, I still doubt the RESET issue stems from a battery/power triggered event.
I tend to believe the issue lies somewhere within the UI or OS on the unit itself. Perhaps some memory cache that fails to clear and eventually fills and forces a reset?
    Still searching for THE solution...
Ps: I WILL NOT BE UPGRADING TO 1.1.1 ... those issues look REALLY UGLY!!! Atleast I still get to listen to SOME songs before it bites the dust!
