Computer restarts after syncing 80gb ipod classic

Every time I sync my ipod classic,(80gb)the computer restarts itself. How do I stop this? I'm using windows XP home edition. Any advise will be greatly appreciated

Are you getting any sort of blue screen when the PC reboots? If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file (for example, “ati3duag.dll”), let us know what that is called too. (Exact spelling, please.)
Here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
If you're not seeing a blue screen (or if you’re just seeing a flash of a blue screen before the PC reboots), we can use the following technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?

  • Errors syncing 80GB ipod classic-NEW

I stayed up until 4 this morning and even missed work trying to fix my new ipod. I have done a system restore, restarted the ipod, restored it, deleted my sync history, re-allowed my computer to have privs, re-registered my product, ran diagnostics, unplugged my mouse (per the suggestions in a forum) and NOTHING works! It seems to have made it worse. Now my mouse is fried and will not work- no kidding. I had to put a different one in. I am getting 3 messages..."The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume JEANIE NEWB into drive H" and "Attempting to copy to the disk JEANIE NEWB failed. An unknown error occured (-69)" and "The iPod "Jeanie's iPod cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." What gives!?!?!? Please HELP!!! I have been on hold with phone support for 3 hours now listening to music. Please someone give me the magic answer. Thanks.

Have you tried doing a restore on your ipod?

  • Genius Bar Response to 80gb iPod Classic not syncing to iTunes 9.0

Ok so basically I have been having the same problems as every other 80gb iPod classic owner that has been on this discussion board. Ever since I downloaded the new iTunes update, my ipod has been unable to sync to my computer. Now I've tried all the suggested troubleshooting steps (uninstall, restore, reset, different computer, etc) and NOTHING works. Basically when I connect my ipod I get the clicking noise it makes when it connects, however that is quickly followed by the annoying disconnect sound. My ipod does in fact show up in My Computer, but as far as iTunes is concerned, all I get is a window to pop up in the upper left hand of the screen saying "Verifying files". After that toggles through for about 5 min, I get the error message in the bottom right corner saying something along the lines of E: Ipod control could not be saved, etc.
I finally got so frustrated that I made a genius bar appt. To my dismay, I got the exact response that I was expecting. The, otherwise friendly assistant, had no clue what the problem was with my Ipod. I described all my issues and he even tried restoring the ipod, tried a different computer, etc and after about 30 minutes all he could say was that he didn't know what the problem was. His worthless excuse was simply that it looked like I had some corrosion on the bottom of my ipod and so that might have fried a circuit or something. However my ipod was working completely fine before the new itunes update. In fact when I disconnect from my computer, my ipod seems to be working properly (i.e. it responds to my touch, it cycles through the menus, etc), but unfortunatly all my music is gone.
As I'm sure is the case with most Classic owners, I have had mine for about 2 years and so I was of course out of warranty. My only options at this point are to pay ~ $140 to replace the same 80gb ipod or just buck up and pay $300 for the new iPod Touch. Considering I'm still convinced this is Apple's shady business tactic of phasing out the older gen ipods, I think my best bet is to go with the Touch.
God I hate when they get shady like this.
    Good luck to anyone else.

    1. Your drive will retain the "dirty" status until it has been successfully scanned by a disk check utility.
    2. While there are a number of threads concerning this issue, which I've not personally experienced, I suspect that in comparison to the number of users this represents a tiny fraction of the overall user base. This is not to diminish your right to be frustated, but to point out that, while the problem is readily apparent to you, it may not be sufficently widespread to have come to the attention of Apple's iTunes team or present with enough regularity for them to determine the cause and hence begin the process of creating a fix.
Between our family, for example, we have 3 iPod classics, (1 two years old, 2 brand new), a Nano & a 30Gb ipod Video all of which sync fine. Assuming you get no joy with the steps I outlined earlier it might still be worth checking the status of your iPod's hard drive to eliminate that as a possible cause of problems.
Press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod then press *SELECT & REWIND* to enter the diagnostics screen. Select *Manual Tests > IO > HardDrive > HDD > HDDSMARTData*.
For comparison here are my results:
    Retracts: 861
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2097
    Starts/Stops: 856
    Temp: Current 29C
    Temp: Min 10C
    Temp: Max 50C
When finished press SELECT & MENU for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again. If you have any pending secorts that might indicate that there is a fundemental problem with your iPod's hard drive that, while not preventing you using the menus, is hampering iTunes when it tries to update the iPod.

  • 80GB iPod Classic looks to have deleted all my songs after iTunes update - please help!!!

I know there have been topics about this in the past, but I haven't found a solution to my particular case in any of them. So I'm sorry that this topic may seem redundant, but I really need help.
I have an 80GB iPod classic I bought 5+ years ago. It has been running fine for months. After I downloaded and installed the new iTunes upgrade however, when I connected the iPod it gave me the message "iTunes cannot read the contents of .... iPod. Please restore etc". I really don't want to have to restore it and lose my music, as it is almost full of music, much of which is hard to find. I don't often back up my library (I know, I know), but I have one from a few months ago I can use if I really have to (it'll be better than starting completely over), but I don't know where that would be saved on my computer. My music isn't saved in another folder so simply restoring and putting the music back into my iPod isn't an option either.
I am running Windows XP home edition if that helps with solutions.
Please help me, I really don't want to have to start my music collection from scratch.

    I did a mistake

  • 80gb iPod Classic Not Syncing Correctly, -50 Error

Okay so, I restored my 80gb iPod Classic last night because my music videos were acting screwed up. This one video kept getting half graphics from a video I had watched before it, and other graphics just depicted a pink outline, and other stuff. So I restored it. Today, only 16 out of 281 songs/music videos will sync onto my iPod, when it says it has 166ish songs synced. Then when it gets to that point, it gives me the -50 error. I dont know whats wrong with it or how to fix it. I looked at that article this website has with the .dll registery files, I did that and it didnt work. I havent made any other changes to this laptop either.

    Okay, some new things.
I just switched my entire iPod library to my desktop computer, instead of my mom's.
I thought maybe it'd fix my classic iPod. I was wrong <_<.
Now I've been getting errors, in order, -69, -50, and now disc cannot be found.
What the heck is up with my classic. My nano is working fine, but I love my classic because my nano is almost filled because of all the songs I have.

when i try to sync my ipod classic 80gig my computer does not recognize the device and will not sync. I have restored reset and installed the latest version of itumes

    Hello esiuolyma,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPod is not recognized and that will not allow you to sync. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

Brand new computer with Windows 8.1 will not sync to iPod Classic 120G.  Windows does not recognize anything but iPod Touch?  Is there a simple solution.  Diagnostics have run and failed to point to a fix.

Might be worth tearing down the whole iTunes install and starting over...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

I have a 80gb ipod classic and i cannot get it to sync anymore since I updated my itunes. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do?

Does the device show up in Windows Explorer when connected?
Have you tried going into Control Panel > Programs & Features > iTunes > Repair?
Have you proved the cable with a different device, or the device's connectivity with a different computer?

  • How do I sync my Ipod Classic 160gb with my new computer (windows 8). It synced with my old computer (windows XP) but not with my new one (windows8)

How do I sync my Ipod Classic 160gb with my new computer (Windows8).? It synced with my old computer (WindowsXP) but will not do so on the new computer?

    Hi Lechwe,
I had this issue recently, due to changing HD for an SSD.
In my case, since the library in my iPod was synced to the HD it was not syncing to the library in the SSD, though they were the same (had the same contents).
I found there's this checkbox in iTunes > iPod > [Settings] Music, called "Sync Music". Mine was unchecked, I guess due to iPod being synced to the old library. I marked the checkbox and clicked then in Sync. iTunes asked me if I was sure I wanted to sync the iPod with the "new" library, i clicked yes, and the it started determining the song to sync. Since the library was essentially the same (just a couple songs more in the new one), it synced the couple new songs and that was it.
    Hope it helps!
    Regards,
    Awlo.

Try disabling any and all A/V or Security software being used by your system and see if that helps.

  • TS1382 I have a new computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

I have a new Dell computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
Or better yet, if you still have access to the old computer, use one of the method described in this article copy everything from the old PC to the new one.

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
