Computer restarts when powering down Lacie TB HD after updating to 10.10.2

Hello -
I was wondering if anybody else is having an issue with their Lacie or other external Thunderbolt hard drives after updating to 10.10.2?
I noticed this morning after un-mounting my Lacie Thunderbolt external drive and powering it off my iMac's screen flickered a few times and then restarted, if anybody else is having this same issue?  If so have you found a fix?
Thanks!
justin

I was cropping in iphoto, the computer froze, I powered down.  After restart, the photos were lost.  How do I find them?

    Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
NOTE:  was it the computer that froze or just iPhoto?  If it was just iPhoto you can use the  ➙ Force Quit menu option to quite out of iPhoto without having to power down.

  • Sleep Indicator Problem when Powering Down MacBook

When I power down my MacBook Pro and close the laptop, the sleep indicator light comes on. It does not pulse like it does when the machine is asleep, it stays constant. Then when powering the computer back on, the power button is unresponsive and needs to be held for a moment in order to turn the computer back on.
I tried unplugging the computer while I was away from it, and after a couple of hours the sleep indicator was off and the battery was completely drained. After plugging the computer back in, it booted up like normal.
I usually turn the computer on when I get home from work, and turn it off before I leave for work in the morning. So, the computer is usually off for about 10 hours a day. Also, I usually cycle the battery once or twice a week to keep it from dyeing on me. I have owned the computer now for about two years and keep all the software and security packages up to date. If anyone has input, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The LED light comes on only after I close my laptop, it doesn't turn on until the top is closed. I always close the laptop after I turn it off though, I haven't tried leaving it open after turning it off. And I usually give it about a minute or two to completly shutdown before I close it up for awhile. By holding down the power button to turn the computer on, is that considered a forced shutdown?

  • Computer restarts when I click on iTunes.

When i try and open iTunes - double click on the icon a blue error screen quickly flashes up on the screen, turns black and the computer restarts.
ANy ideas how i can fix this?
    Thanks

Okay. Here's the relevant updates page at Dell for your Dimension 3000.
    Dimension 3000 (XP)
Make sure both your BIOS and your Chipset are up to date. Actually, while, you're there, check to see if you're behind on any updates for other componentry you have on your particular configuration of Dimension 3000.
Once you're satisfied you're up to date, reboot the PC and then try launching Itunes again.
If you still get the blue screen crash, we'll set your PC up to capture minidumps of the crash, and send a minidump through to the Apple Engineers for a look.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
Generate the crash, find the minidump file, and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • Computer restarting when running javac.exe

    Hi...i am new to Java.
I have a problem, when I compile my java file using javac myfilename.java then suddenly my computer restarting itself...
This happens many times on my computer...Is there anybody know the reason?
    Thanks

This is an odd problem. Apart from viruses, the usual reason for an unexpected restart is some kind of driver problem, since in XP this often triggers an automatic restart instead of a blue screen (what a creative approach to ridding the world of the BSOD ;-)
It doesn't seem likely to be a graphics problem, since it occurs with non GUI apps, but just so you know, ATI cards are particularly prone to trouble.
Install any pending service packs, and update your SDK to 1.4.1_02 if you haven't done so already. Change your graphics drivers to the newest available set.
That should knock the problem on the head, hopefully.

  • Macbook wakes from sleep, restarts when shut down, tried everything. "wake reason = "

My macbook (2008 unibody, 2.4ghz, os x 10.6.8) will not stay asleep, and it restarts when I shut it down. For example, I'll close the lid, it will sleep, then wake a few seconds later, and eventually go back to sleep. After a few cycles of this, the CPU reaches over 80 celcius, but nothing indicative of heavy cpu usage in the activity monitor except for "kernel task." I guess this is because the fans have to keep shutting off when lid is closed. Of the things I've tried, the following have not worked:
*fiddling with all possible energy saver preferences
*disk utility repairs, even with the snow leopard install disc
    *resetting pram and smc
*loading into windows 7 partition, same thing happens
*loading into my external HD, same thing happens
*deleted everything in the LaunchDaemons folder
    *turned off bluetooth entirely
    *turned off airport
*turned off "Set date and time automatically"
    *nothing plugged into USB
*tried with/without magsafe plug, with/without battery, same problems occur
*no errors returned with applecare's Techtool Deluxe
*ran every maintenance script I could: crons, clear cache, rebuilds, updates
*ran the hardware test from one of the install disks, no problems detected
    *turned off login items
I've studied the messages in Console.app like my life depended on it and the only thing that's bugging me is that I get "kernel---------Wake Reason = ". It doesn't give me a wake reason, it's just empty. I can't find anything around the net that could tell me why this occurs. I put "syslog |grep -i "Wake reason ="" into the terminal.app and apparently this has been happening for a week now, hundreds of instances of no wake reasons.
Could this be a hardware error?

Mine does the same thing. I noticed that he little green/yellow light on the magnetic power adapter would go out every once in a while as well. If I would keep the system closed and unplug then replug it, then it would unsleep/sleep whenever it was connected. I switched power adapters with my other MBP and it behaves normally now. ymmv

  • Computer Restarts When Trying to Update

I just recently got a 60G iPod, and installed iTunes on my boyfriend's computer while I was fixing mine. After my computer was up and running, I installed iTunes on it and planned to use my iPod as a hard drive and transfer the music over to my computer. When I installed the software on my computer, it recognizes my computer as the home computer, and my boyfriend's computer won't recognize it anymore. Now, every time I try and update my iPod on my computer, or try and select "manually manage songs and playlists," my computer automatically restarts. My boyfriend has XP and I have Windows 2000. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, and I've already uninstalled iTunes on my computer and reinstalled it. No change.

  • Computer restarts when trying to install SL on disk partition

    Hi.
I just repartitioned my Macintosh HD using disk utility.  I've created a new 120GB partition "Macintosh HD 2.
I've been having problems installing Snow Leopard on the new partition (using the SN install disk.)
It seems to be installing for about 20 minutes then the computer restarts.
It gets to the gray screen and starts beeping angrily at me.
At that point my only recourse is to restart the computer, eject the install disk and try again.
I'd been hoping to use the new partition to try out FCPX and Lion before I upgrade my main hard disk.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much in advance

    Hi db2
That off the shelf MS-DOS / FAT-32 drive needs to re-partitioned GUID Partition Table / Mac OS Extended (Journaled) before you can install OS X and Startup your Intel iMac from it.
    1. Boot from your original install or retail SL DVD and open Disk Utility.
    2. Highlight the new HD in the list of drives and select the Partition tab.
    3. Under Volume Scheme select 1 Partition and click on the Options... button.
    4. Select GUID Partition Table in the drop down window and click OK.
    5. Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Apply button.
    6. Once thats done, then you can do a clean SL Install, Restore from TM , your old HD or  Bootable Clone.

  • Computer Restarts when burning

Help. Running most recent version of Itunes, Liteon burner (2 months old) when burning new disks the computer goes through a restart when it completes. Need some insite on this problem.
      Windows XP

    rower,
Your computer is blue screening. This is frequently caused by problems with driver conflicts or a computer virus. Make sure you've scanned your computer for viruses and spyware.
If that doesn't help, let's capture a minidump of the crash and send it to the Apple engineers to analyze.
And then send it to the apple moderator. Tell her Toonz sent you. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context.

  • Computer restarts when transfering music

Whenever I try to tranfer large amounts of music to my iPod (photo, 30 gig) my computer restarts. It's a new problem that started when I reinstalled my hard drive. Any advice?

    Thanks Trevor,
I have tried every USB port I have, I also went and downloaded the new drivers as you suggested. Neither helped.
On three of the USB ports the minute I plug in the Ipod it shuts off the computer and restarts. The computer does give alot of clicking noises (not beeps) from the back of the computer. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my power supply, since the Ipod gets power to charge and such though the computer, do you think that could be a problem.
My next thing is I will try it on another computer, but that will have to be later today.

  • Why is my Samsung Gusto vibrating when powered down?

I bought a used Samsung Gusto (SCH-U365) and it turns on just fine.  However, when you power it down, it vibrates softly and consistently.  I'm assuming that it would drain the battery if left powered down.  When the phone is powered on, there is no vibration issue.  Any ideas?

Just a thought - do you have a sound set for when the phone powers on or off?
Power - Control whether your phone plays sounds when you turn the
    phone on or off.
    1. From the Home screen, press the Left Soft Key
    Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Sounds ➔ Power.
    2. Choose Power On or Power Off to control the sounds.
Does the vibration continue if the phone is plugged in and charging?  Or does that not make a difference?  The vibration stops when you remove the battery, correct?  Does it happen if the phone is using house current (plugged in, no battery)?
I'm puzzled what would cause this...so the questions are to try and narrow down when it happens, so we can maybe figure out WHY it happens!

  • Computer restarts when connecting ipod - please help!

Hey, I've recently bought a usb 2.0 card so i can connect my ipod via usb 2.0 as it will be faster than usb 1.1.
There is a slight problem however, almost every time i connect my ipod via the usb cable to this new usb 2.0 port, the computer restarts.
On the odd few occasions the computer hasn't restarted, my ipod has not been recognised in itunes or my computer.
I have tried connecting other things such as my phone and my old mp3 player to the new usb card and they work fine.
Is this a problem with my ipod or just the usb card?
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks alot.

      Windows XP

I've had this problem and given the advice to others and it has worked for some. This isn't mentioned in any other advice that I can see but it is a simple check that you should do, not very technical either!
With your iPod plugged in to the computer, first go through the 5R's and other help topics to check the basics (new cable, different computer, different USB port etc.)
If no luck, check to see if your iPod exists in Device Manager as follows: right-click on My Computer, then click on Manage, then Device Manager, then expand the section called Disk Drives on the right hand side and see if the iPod is shown there, if it is, go on to the next stage.
In the same Computer Management box, click on Disk Management on the left hand side, after a few seconds a new box opens on the right and should show all of the disks on your computer including the iPod. Then right-click on the iPod information and it will give you an option to Change the drive letter or path....click on that and then select Change; select a new drive letter which is not already assigned to any other disc (I picked Z down the bottom), save that then exit and see if it works. Good luck!
