Computer running super slow
I have a black 13" MacBook that recently started running super slow. It loads slow. The mouse moves normally, but when I click on anything it can take two minutes before anything happens. It runs slow when I boot it in safe mode. I tried running some utilities from the os disks and they didn't find any problems. I don't know what is wrong with it, or how to help it. Thanks for your help.
A new user account does nothing to help. It is still super slow
Gotcha.
So you have a systemwide issue then (not just a single account).
Did this start happening after you installed some new software or maybe an Apple Software update?
Did you add any new hardware to the computer like RAM or an hard drive?
Are you running any Anti-Virus or Firewall software on the computer (doesn't come with the Mac so it would have had to been installed by you after the fact)?
_Turn off your Airport by going to the airport menu and choosing Turn Airport off.
_Unplug all external devices besides the power cable.
_Restart the computer. -- Any change?
If not:
_SafeBoot the system and while in SafeBoot remove the Macintosh HD > Library > Caches folder to the trash.
_Remove any items in Macintosh HD > Library > StartUp Items
_Reset the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
_Any change?
If the issue persists at this point I would backup your data and reinstall the Mac OS (with 10.6 this does not erase the computer, it just puts the OS back on the computer):
_Insert your Mac OS X 10.6 installation disc
_Shut down your Mac.
_Start up your Mac while holding the C key to start from the disc and follow the onscreen prompts to reinstall.

Computer running super slow and fan is constantly on
Hello, I am really hoping someone can help me. My computer is running incredibly slow, and the fan is constantly on high as soon as I turn it on. I have tried the SMC reset as I have read in other forums, but it has been an hour now and that has not seemed to work. Is there anything else I can try?
Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later

My computer is running super slow. I can correct the problem briefly by zapping the PRAM but is resumes as a problem after a few hours. I have good time machine (capusle) backup daily. I have done a disk verify and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong there.
Help, this is wasting a lot of time to do simple functions.Hard to say what's going wrong without more information. Try the troubleshooting steps in my Mac Performance Guide. Post back if you need help with any of that or questions about the results.

My MacBook Pro is running SUPER slow. When I start up my computer it takes forever to load up, when I play World of Warcraft it is painfully slow with logging in etc. Everything about starting a program takes forever to load up and then once you are in the program everything is super slow. My husband's macbook pro is a 17 inch 2009 and works WAY better and faster then mine. Also, i don't know if this is a related problem, but the power drains VERY quickly. For example, If I have a MS OFFICE program on I could be at 100% hooked up to my power and then if I go off of my battery, the battery life will only last about 30 to 45 minutes MAX.
Here are the deets on my MacBook:
17-inch, Late 2011
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Software OS X 10.9.3
Suggestions? Thanks!Have a look here...

Basically...
1) Make sure you have enough Free Hard Drive space for your Mac to Perform as expected...
Rule of thumb is about 15 to 20 GB
2) And adding more RAM is always a prudent move... (4GB of RAM is a minimum for Mavericks... 8GB at least would be better.)
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/
Go to http://www.crucial.com
It is Important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
Those sites also have videos on how to Install RAM should you need it...

SSD and HDD Installed but it runs super slow? Please Help!
Hi, I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro 2.2 GHZ Intel Core i7
8gb of ram. My hard drive died in my mac and I decided to replace it with an SSD and installed an HDD in the optical bay following Ifixit instructions. I booted into internet recovery and installed Mountain Lion (as it would not let me do a straight Yosemite install from a flash drive I had made on my gf's macbook, because it couldn't authenticate). After booting up and declining the usual iCloud prompts, I rebooted and installed Yosemite from the USB. It took a while, but eventually i booted up.
I moved my home folder to the HDD a 7200rpm Western Digital Black, which is in the optical bay, (the SSD is a Samsung 340 Pro and is installed in the Drive bay). Everything appears to be functioning, but it's slower that it had ever been using Yosemite on the HDD that had died. It take 35-40 seconds just to open System Preferences. I have used First aid on both drives via the Recovery and repaired permissions on both. I have reset the ram using option-command-r-p. I have booted into Safe Mode and Restarted the computer multiple times. Just opening a second safari window causes the spinning wheel to go for ten seconds or so. If anyone knows anything I can do, please help! I'm at a loss as to what I can do to fix this.
I'm really not sure what is going on. It seems to take a very long time to load a website, but after using safari for a bit, the app doesn't seem to have a problem responding to commands, just takes way too long to load anything. System preferences is all of a sudden crazy snappy, but is giving me the spinning rainbow wheel when I try and click on a pane saying "Could not load Users & Groups preference pane." After I click "okay" and try again it loads right up. Grrr.Etrecheck report if it helps:

Brand new computer is super slow and makes a clicking noise
My brand new computer is super slow and makes a clicking noise. Any suggestions? I have a lenovo X120e, purchased it around 2 months ago but due to moving across the country just started using it, not so happy so far but I would be happier if it would speed up a bit. Every click takes a while to register especially during browsing on the internet.
Can you run the ThinkVantage Toolbox's HDD diagnostics?
Alternatively, try HD Tune's error scan and check it's SMART page for warnings.

Whenever I open iTunes now, my system starts running super slow. All other applications are gasping for air. iTunes itself runs slow. If I click on a track name to change it, it can take 10 seconds before it responds. Whenever I close iTunes, it takes around 20-30 seconds to save the Library information.
I now only use iTunes for syncing my iPod unfortunately, as it's not practical to use if I'm actually doing anything else on my computer.
Any ideas what's going on? All of my tracks are on my external hard drive with plenty of free space left. This all seemed to happen sometime during the last 3-5 iTunes updates, as it was fine before that.
Pentium 4 3.0GHz, 1GB RAM Windows XPClose your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

146 MB Page-outscould the launch agents failing slow the computer or they just don't work. I mean I am willing to upgrade ram but not if there is good chance it won't change speed much. Also to downgrade is it necessary to format the hard drive?

In Aperture 3, how can I easily move entire projects out of my main Ap Library into other libraries? My Ap library is running super slow because it's overloaded, so I have created two new libraries, but can't seem to move the projects into them?
Hello Annabel,
To move entire projects export them as Aperture Libraries, and then import those Libraries into the other Aperture Library:
Select the Project in the Inspector, then
File -> Export -> Project as Library
In the other Library do:
File -> Import -> Library/ Project
But I am not quite convinced, that the size of your current Aperture Library is responsible for the slowness of Aperture - Aperture is designed to cope with huge libraries.
You may want to post your hardware setup and details of your library, and some of the hardware experts here may help you to find the reason for the slowness.
A huge library should only be a problem, if the projects are too big, and if you have many, many smart albums at the root level of your library.
So keep the projects small, and try to move some of your smart albums to lower levels in your folder structure (then Aperture does not need to scan all of your images to build the smart album).
Other reasons for Aperture's slowness may be, e.g.
An overfull system drive and/or external drive (keep at least 20% of your drives empty)
lack of RAM
a corrupted Aperture Library, that needs repairing
Have you checked those options, before you split your library? It would be a pity to split it, for you would loose the ability to browse all parts at the same time, to use all your images in the Media Browser, etc.

in disk utility, below Macintosh HD I have 4 trojan "decryptedFile.dmg (flash player)" and my computer is super slow, does erasing Macintosh HD will also erase these files? If not how can I erase? (bear in mind computer so slow a click takes forever)
Thank you Thomas in fact I have seen your guide before and had gone thru the steps including repair disk which didn´t work. I am erasing disk before checking hardware. I have posted a photo of the 4 decrypted files in the disk utility and also of the adobe icons in the dock and question marks. Some people say if the adobe appears in the dock is because it is the trojan flash player and they keep jumping in the dock. If this is not malware it seems to be an incredible coincidence that when I start seeing these things in my dock and the decrypted files in my disk utility is when my computer goes so slow (I am typing this in my macbook air because to write this message in my imac would be about 6 hours, I am not kidding, it is completely useless at this point it took me 2 and half days too instal mac os x after disk repair, it took me 3 days to transfer just 100 gigabites and now is taking the whole day (and it says another day more) just to erase the disk. Despite all this the icon of adobe keeps jumping in the dock so, although I am no computer and mac expert, just an user, I am inclined to think that it is malware and it is a shame that mac doesnt´recognize it or have anything here to help me get rid of this. I am not even sure if erasing the disk will work since repairing didn´t work... all advice is welcomed.

Since i added osx mountain lion, my computer runs really slow, especially internet
Can I go back to what I had before (I think snow leopard?)? This new software is making my computer run too slow. I sometimes have to wait a full minute just to get online. Sometimes, I have to turn the whole computer off and back on again to get online. Can't stand it!

When I turn on iCloud in iPhoto everything starts to run super slow.
This has been happening for a while but since I have a MacBook Pro that I don't have this problem on, as well as my iMac which i do have this problem on, I haven't worried about it but now i'm getting annoyed. When I open iphoto, without photostream on, everything is fine. As soon as I click on photostream or icloud everything in iphoto starts running super slow. If I click on a photo it takes about 10 seconds for it to highlight, scrolling is about 10 seconds behind as well. If i close iphoto with icloud on, it will not open back up. I get a error report. If I turn off icloud/photostream then everything is fine. I can scroll through my pictures with no problem at all. I have about 400 pictures on my mac. Anybody else have this problem? Anybody have a fix?
This has been happening for over 6 months, before Mavericks and before my current version of iphoto.
Here are my specs:
iphoto v 9.5.1
iMac 21.5, mid 2011
2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
16GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)
I have 270 GB of free space.
Thanks in advance. What generation is your iPod? My sister's 2g/3g(I'm not sure which) was doing something similar, but it would put a different graphic on the screen every time. We took it in to the apple store and they didn't determine what it was. One thing they said to try was to restore it and gradually add content on to see if it's an app or something loaded on it. If that doesn't work then they said it's probably something in the software or firmware. They gave her the option of getting one exactly like the one she had or getting the new one like I have. She ended up getting the new one on sale at target.

Ever since I installed MAVERICK, nothing now works, Flash Player won't run, printer works but scanner will not and the computer runs so slow. Any help anywhere?
wqn02h, first thing I would do is use Disk utility to repair permissions. Once this is done. Make sure you have the latest versions of the software you use. Also, check the manufacter of your printer/scanner for updated software. If they don't have updated software there are 3rd party alternatives that will work.
