Computer Running what sounds like virus scan from 12-3, but security virus runs only in PM

My computer was running what seemed like a virus scan this afternoon from 12-3, made it difficult to do work, I have the security system scheduled to run it at night.  How do I find out what kind of scan this was so it doesn't happen again and slow down my work in the PM?   Thanks

What specific operating system are you running? Windows Vista and Windows 7 if you have one of these OSs run many tasks routinely that can cause disk activity and CPU usage.

  • Own an X-FI Elite Pro - Getting what sounds like a CD skipping and some distortion

Interesting I have had this card for some time now...and I never experienced any kind of distortion...popping...click noises...or anything that the majority of people here have been complaining about. I though I was one of the lucky few...that has all changed.
I started playing some BF2 the other day...and of course have the in game audio settings set to ULTRA to and X-FI to make use of my XFI 64 megs of RAM...anyways, this is the same setting I have had in BF2 since I've owned the game and have had my XFI - Elite Pro.
Anways, there I am playing my game when all of a sudden from time to time I hear what sounds like an audio CD skipping! I thought at first it was just me or the game...but no...it seems to happen more often than it use to! Like its getting wores! It cleary sounds like an Audio CD skipping!
another thing I started to notice is when playing MP3s and such.... I can hear distortion in the background! Its a bit hard to explain but what it sounds like the distortion isn't in the actual audio mix...almost like background distortion!
to test I would play the same audio track on my home theatre system and to my dismay... I heard no distortion...so that would label my XFI Elite Pro as the problem.
a couple of things to note:
st.. I have 2 fans hooked up on the same rail on my PSU that connects to the XFI Elite Pro. The fans have fan controlers as well... I haven't tried this...but its possible that since the fans are hooked up to the same wire as my XFI is...its possible I may be getting some electrical interference with them.
2nd... I just updated to the latest BETA drivers released by Creative. This is where I first started to notice the problem.
I have yet to dry difference drivers or remove the fans...however, I do believe I am finally experiencing what many other have been since there purchase.
I paid a **bleep** pretty penny for my Elite Pro and deffinitly EXPECT it run PERFECT!
    deffinitly unhappy thus far.
I do have an Nforce based chipset. As well as an ASUS A8N32-SLI with the most recent BIOS update.
Like I said before, I am just now getting this sounds...its possible it could be the BETA drivers, I will keep you all posted.
For the mean time, anyone have any insight or opinions for me?
    thanks in advnace!

    no ideas huh?
is this the same stuff everyone else is experiencing?

I backed my old iphone up to my computer and bought a new iphone.  When i backed my new phone up I now I have an icloud photo (from my computer) album that I want to delete from my phone but I do not have the option.  Please help.

If the album was synced to your phone from your computer, it can only be removed by sycing it off.  To do this, deselect the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync.

  • Computer makes weird sound - like guitar strings

So I have an iBook G4 (which I love) and its been about 7 months now. The other day it started to make this noise (which it only does when the volume is on). I checked the sounds in system preferences and none of them sound like this, and it does it even when no programs are running. The computer makes this sound of someone plucking a guitar string. Two of them, like "pluck" "pluck" and it does it all the time, even if I'm listening to a song on iTunes. Anyone have any advice? I've tried shutting down my computer and it still does it. Thanks!

Same problem, man. I would try everything, but it will perist. Try opening up the system and check for cracks in the motherboard or open spaces between the parts. It is hard to  solve such problem for me.

  • Since updating to 706 the sound on my ipad2 is not working right. On videos or music. There is constant distortion and what sounds like interference. Any ideas?

Since updating to 706 the sound on my ipad2 is not working right--on videos or music. There is distortion and some kind of interference at all times. Any ideas?

Has the unit EVER been jailbroke?
If "No," first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Battery will not charge. Computer runs only off adapter.

A few days ago my battery quit charging and my Powerbook 1.5GHz G4 will run only off the adapter. The computer shuts off when it is unplugged and will not boot unless it is plugged in. I tried resetting the Power Managment Unit by unplugging the cable and battery and holding the power button for 5 sec. nothing changed. This is a battery I recieved from Apple for the recall.
Here is system information my computer displays when the battery is in and the adapter is plugged in. I noticed that it recognizes the battery is installed, but it says it is not charging and that the remaining battery capacity is zero.
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3781
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 0 <-----------
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 8806
    Cycle Count: 225
    AC Charger Information:
    AC Charger (Watts): 65
    Connected: Yes
    Charging: No <------------

Something is suspicious about those numbers. 3781 looks like the capacity of a brand new battery. If you manage your battery perfectly per Apples directions, after 225 cycles, you should be along the curve to hit 80% capacity by 300 cycles.
There are only 4 components to the charging circuit - the power adapter, the dc-in card, the battery, and the logic board. Since the power adapter runs the system, you'd assume it's OK. Do you have access to anyone with the same battery or an Apple store or Apple Authorized Service Provider where you could check to see if indeed the battery has failed? Here's Apple's US (you don't indicate where you live) service locator: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/ . If it's a dc-in card problem, it costs around $100, and if it's a logic board problem, it costs more.

  • Sounds like a no brainer ... but ...

I'm a PC guy, always have been. I hate Windoze.
The MAC is now very attractive to me, but I have issues.
I need to run Windoze XP for my work, as I need to see client websites, and how they display, in XP.
I also always build my own PCs, upgrade hardware, etc.
    Questions:
    1) I understand that the mini comes with OS-X and will allow me to run Windoze XP (with added software). True?
    2) Can I upgrade memory, drives etc myself?
    3) Is the 512 memory sufficient on the mini?

    Hi,
    1) You've got 2 options for running Windows XP on an Intel Mac Mini. First is the Boot camp software from Apple (currently in Beta) that allows you to dual boot the mini and use either OSX or XP. For more info check out the discussion group (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1165)
The other option is to use Parallels (http://www.parallels.com/) to run a virtual Windows XP machine from within OSX. This has the advantage of not having to reboot the mini to switch between each OS.
    2) You can upgrade the memory, hard drive, optical drive and even the CPU yourself but doing so will void your warranty. The memory and hard drive are standard laptop sizes, and so is the optical drive but I believe that only certain optical drives are supported by OSX. Upgrading the CPU is not for the faint hearted but doing a Google search should find some pages about what is possible and what to expect from doing this.
    3) The mini will run with 512MB of memory but opening more than 1 application, running apps under Rosetta (non-intel compiled apps) or running Parallels (see point 1) will cause some speed issues. Running Windows XP on a 512MB mini from Boot camp and you will get the same performance as a normal PC with 512MB memory.
The best option is to go for 2GB of memory and everything will run very sweet, but 1GB is also fine as long as you don't try to open every app at once :-D

  • I have a load noise from what sounds like the fan.  MBP 15" 2009

My MBP 15" makes a grinding sound that will go away and then come back.  If it is the fan, how difficult is this to have replaced?

13 screws. 10 for the bottom pan and 3 for the fan. Takes 3 screws longer than upgrading the RAM, with the advantage that the fan is not static-sensitive.
If one fan is bad, the other will follow shortly thereafter. Under warranty, Apple always changes both, you should follow suit. www.ifixit.com has the procedure and the parts you need.
For diagnosing if it IS the fan, use an Old Mechanic's Trick: get a short, thin metal rod. Place one end against the bony area right in front of your good ear. Place the other end against various spots on the Mac to determine the nature of the sound and its exact location. Use iFixIt's photos to see which component is the noisemaker: on the 15" MBP there are 4 candidates: 2 fans, one HDD and one optical drive. No other moving parts inside.

  • Hearing what sounds like air in the background

Hi, I have a Creative Sound Blaster Z (The gray/bare bones one) and I'm having an issue. I use a headset with attached microphone for my audio. I installed my sound card and plugged the 2 3.5mm jacks into the card in the rear panel and my mic and speakers work just fine. The problem is, I'm hearing a rather annoying blowing air like sound in video games and videos (including twitch.tv/Netflix as examples). The louder the sound the more the "air" intensifies also. Also, my Sound Blaster Z Control Panel does not load up when I run it. All the other creative programs work, just not the control panel. I have tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling several times. I have disabled all audio including onboard sound and graphic card sound. I also have the latest drivers. Everything works great except for this noise I'm getting in the background, it ruins everything. I'm thinking it's an option in the control panel I can adjust but I can't get into the audio control panel.
I have a Nvidia GTX 780 and Asus VI Hero Maximus mobo if that helps any.
Pretty much at a loss here. Really need some help guys. Thanks

    Hi Brenx,
Maybe the noise comes from your microphone. You may want to try to disable your microphone to see the the issue persists.
As for the problem of the Sound Blaster Z control panel not loading up, you may need to do a refresh of your Windows.

  • I am making an short film and i whant to make a vocal sound like it comes from a bottle. Can someone help me?

I dont know how i am going to do it, I havet worked much in audition before so i dont know how to do it. I am guessing it is some type of reverb but i dont know whats the best and stuff like that. And thanks for the help .

How are you positioning the viewer/listener?  To be inside or outside the bottle?  How will your visuals support that action?  If you want some creative license and your listener is outside the bottle, add a slight whistle, or the low drone one hears as if you were blowing across it.  Add a notch filter to the fx rack and try the 60Hz Octaves preset for start.  That will add a little convincing whistle reflection to the voice.  If inside, then it's room small dynamics and playing with reverb, (as Bob suggests).
Direction also plays a roll when you change the angle of the viewer relative to the bottle.  That is, the voice is more clear if you listen directly overhead of the opening verses being muffled from the side.  A good starting point for a muffled effect would be to use the "underwater speech" present available in the FX rack.  It will load chorus, parametric eq and reverb into the rack, set to a good baseline to start from, and don't forget to add the notch filter at 60Hz for added effect.
When inside the bottle or listening directly overhead, disable the parametric eq for clearer sound, then add it back in when listening from outside, through the glass.  Give it try and tweak as needed.

  • When completely inactive I will get what sounds like a radio station. It will play for a few seconds then quit. then start again an hour later. no open apps. any similar situations?

As stated above I will get a random radio station coming through my computer playing ads.  I found similar problems happening to pc users but no help offered to a mac user.  No applications are running in the background (to my knowledge) and its really iritating. Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

  • Audio sounds like half-speed on Zen Touch, but not on the

I've got TONS of Opie and Anthony that I'm moving from my computer to my Zen Touch. Unfortunately, many of the files sound as if they're playing at half-speed, even though the timer at the bottom is running at the appropriate speed. This only happens when I'm playing them on my Zen Touch; when I listen to the files on my pc, the sound is just fine.
Running firmware .00.06. I've read that there have been issues with new firmware, so I've been wary to update to a newer version.
If anyone can help, you'll make a guy really happy...Message Edited by taunter on 06-20-2005 :34 PM

    Taunter,
Here is a rundown of what MP3 bitrates you will want to have:
    Mono: 24KBPS and higher
    Stereo: 40KBPS and higher
If you try VBR, it may be difficult to figure out exactly where to place the slider, but I would suggest keeping it from the lower sections so that it doesn't drop into the Khz sampling range.
All WMA bitrates should work ok, since they do not sample lower than 22Khz.

  • File burned w/what looks to be left from a transition, but none showing...

Hello all - I am completely stumped on this... I created a project in Final Cut Pro, everything was exactly as how I wanted it to be. I then exported it to 'Full Movie' FCP file, looked at there, it was fine. Then, I opened DVD SP, and imported the file into there, and THEN noticed that what appears to be one single frame, that was included in the project. The thing is, is that when I went back to the project in my timeline, the frame did not show up. Then, I burned that project to a Quicktime file, and the frame is suddenly there. How can this be? And how can I keep this from happening again? Unfortunately, I burned the disc and made copies, w/out even knowing it was there, and gave it to my client, who apparently didn't see it either, on the Qtime file, but it is there....thank you.
After looking at the original footage, it seems that the 'frame in question', comes before my In Point. I don't understand this -- I created my In/Out point, dragged to the timeline, and that's the footage I wanted to use, and that's the footage that showed up in my project. Not this frame before...
