  • Computer sees iPod, but iTunes does not!

Even the Genius Bar guy couldn't fix this:
    - Everything used to work fine with my 5G iPod and Lenovo T61 laptop w/XP
-Suddenly, iPod won't sync with computer anymore
    - Did all the "5R" stuff, so now I have an iPod with nothing on it, but iTunes still won't see it.
    - I know the COMPUTER and OS are seeing it, since the iPod shows up in the Device Manager, and all the Windows stuff shows the iPod is attached
    - Sometimes I get the "Restore" pop-up, but no more.
    - Deleted and re-installed a fresh copy of iTunes
    - If I connect the iPod to another computer it syncs, but NOT "it's own" laptop.
HELP! This thing is useless and I am out of options that, again, even the Genuis Bar couldn't help.
    ANY suggestions, anyone?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !
"tnd", good idea, but iPod hardware wasn't in the "software" area you pointed to. However, it got things in the right direction. Thanks.
Katrina: Worked like a charm. In retrospect, it's obvious, but it didn't occur to me (or, the Genius Bar guy) to look at the other hard drive letters. I'm using a laptop that connects during the week to it's "home base" corporate network when I'm in the office. There are "h", "l" and "n" drives there, and even when the laptop is undocked and running outside the office, I guess those drives are still in there as assigned, even though not connected. Checked as you suggested, and sure enough, the iPod showed as "h", and that must have been the problem. Reassigned it to "P" for "pod" since I'll remember that in case the IT guys at work add more drives to my node. Clearly, a "DOH!".
THANKS, my faith in Apple is restored -- I was ready to throw this thing through the window!

  • Computer finds iPod but iTunes doesn't

I would appreciate any help. I have tried everything to get iTunes to find the iPod. I have a Dell E521 and I have tried almost everything.
I removed iTunes and re-installed it (several times) I believe I removed all traces of iTunes before re-installing.
I changed the drive from (j) which was the default to (x)
I tried to change the start-up
I removed some KEY files that I heard to try.
I don't know what else to try.
I have two Nano's and neither work so I assume it is a computer problem.
The computer finds the Nano but thinks it is a hard drive.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.

  • Itunes sees ipod, but doesn't see songs in ipod

    Hi there!
I've updated itunes, updated and reset the ipod twice. Problem is that when I plug in the ipod, itunes will come up and it sees my ipod, but it won't show any of the content. If I drag songs from my library into my ipod icon, it will make like they're copying over, but when the ipod is disconnected i find that the songs haven't transferred.
In short: itunes opens, recognizes my ipod by name, but wont' show the content, and won't allow new content to move to the ipod.
It has worked before -- in fact, I have 10 gigs of mp3's on the ipod. I just can't get any more on (it's a new 30 gig ipod).
I appreciate any help you might give!
    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem! Any solutions?

Hello Dark0prince and welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear you're having an issue connecting your BlackBerry® Storm™ 9530 smartphone to the BlackBerry® Desktop Software.
Download your device software from your mobile carrier (click here) and install it to your computer. This will update the drivers for your device.
If you have already installed the software and the drivers and the issue persists then it would be advised you contact your mobile network provider and ask for a ticket to be opened with RIM support to investigate this matter further.
    Thanks!

  • Can no longer purchase itunes songs on original computer and ipod but...

    Hello,
Originally, I had a iPod nano with video..do not have generation at hand..and used it at iTunes with no issues for music and podcasts.
My purchases and downloads worked fine via my authorized computer.  Mid to late summer, I received an iPod touch as gift and
want to use the iPod touch for video, apps, podcasts and ibooks while keeping the older iPod nano for music only.
At present time, the iPod touch seems to work fine at wi fi hotspots for purchases and downloads of video, apps, podcasts, and
ibooks and magazines.  However, I can't seem to use my authorized computer to purchase songs..but I can listen to previews
and download free podcasts on it.
Please advise as to how to fix this situation....
    Thanking in advance,
    Mary Pauline in northern NJ

  • My Computer recognizes iPod, but not iTunes...HELP

My 4G 20GB iPod can't be found in iTunes but can be found on "My Computer". Any ideas on what i should do to getting songs onto my iPod?

Ok i solved the problem. All i did was reformmat my ipod on using windows explorer. Ejected the iPod and plugged it back in. Then opened iTunes. Hopefully this can help some of you.

  • Yet more problems!  Now the computer recognises ipod, but itunes doesn't

I used my ipod with my old laptop, but now I want to use it on my new one.
Firstly the ipod wouldn't sync, and after literally hours of messing, itunes kept saying "error: cannot sync". I still haven't resolved that issue.
But now itunes doesn't recognise the ipod at all, despite the computer recognising it!!!!
All the help seems to be for XP, but I have vista.
Why do the same problems happen over and over and over? I hate my ipod, and wished I had never bought one.
Anyone, please help before I put a stiletto heel through it.

  • Windows sees iPod but iTunes doesn't ALSO Windows cannot locate driver

Got my Nano (2d gen) a few days ago and have been stumped since I can't use it. Here's a few details. I'm running Windows 2000 with SP4. In trying to sync I have used both my laptop's USB 1.1 port but also a USB 2.0 card with and without additional power (which can sometimes cause problems). I have tried the 5 R's to no avail.
Here's what's happened so far. Initially when I connected the Nano Windows would look for the appropriate driver. After a minute or so, the computer would lock up and reboot. This happened 5 or 7 times. Very frustrating.
I then tried the 5 R's and started doing some research on my own. I think part of the problem might have been due to Windriver, which I believe controls USB drivers. I messed around with that and eventually got to the point where when I plugged in the Nano, Windows would search for the correct iPod driver. After a minute or so, a window would pop up reporting that Windows couldn't find the driver and did I want to disable this device or ignore the update.
Hey, at least the computer wasn't rebooting.
The strange this is that if I click on the System Tray, under the Unplug/Eject Hardware icon it shows that there is an iPod connected and the Nano will charge. And yet, iTunes doesn't report being connected.
I have searched and searched this forum and the web but to no avail. Are there smarter minds out there that can help me with this problem?
IBM T20 Windows 2000 Nano 2d gen with iTunes 7.02

I went through the steps in the document a day or so ago but it didn't help. I will try one more time, paying close attention to the details.
On a different note, just after I posted my question I attached my Nano and let it look for the appropriate driver. However, this time I pointed it to the WINNT\Systems32\drivers directory and my computer locked up and rebooted.
So I'm thinking there's an underlying problem and I'm just don't want to think about doing a re-install or re-format of my HDD.
There is one thing I can report. I was able to sync on my office computer so the problem's not the Nano.
Will let you know if anything changes. Thanks for the quick response.

  • Computer recognizes iPod but iTunes does not.

I plugged in my fifth generation iPod into the USB port on my computer. The comp recognizes it and begins to charge it, thats the good part. Usually when i plug in my iPod, iTunes pops up and begins to sync music(if needed), but i restored my iPod a week ago and that is when this began to happen. Any help here would be hot...

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • Itunes sees IPOD but I cannot get a drive letter to use as a hard drive.

I set disk use enabled but every time I unplug and replug the IPOD back in the check box is unchecked.
What system does windows/IPOD use to mount the IPOD and get a drive letter? I am using a customized version of XP and I want to make sure I did not delete a particular system in XP.

I don't think you'd be able to shut off the Logical Disk Manager service, which is what Windows uses to assign drives letters to mounted volumes. It is possible that it's not loading correctly or automatically, however.
Open up My Computer without the iPod connected and write down all the drive letters you see (for Hard Disk Drives, Devices with Removable Storage, and Network drives, if applicable). Then connect the iPod and double check just to verify there aren't any new drives present. Now right click My Computer and click Manage. In the Computer Management window, click on disk management on the left side. In the upper portion on the right side, look to see if there is a volume that matches your iPod in capacity (will be off by a couple of gigs, likely) but that doesn't have a drive letter. Right click that volume, and hit "Change Drive Letters and Paths" and then attempt to add a drive letter to the device, taking care to note that you are using a drive letter that is not on your list you wrote down earlier. It's usually best to leave some room between the iPod and the last used drive letter... for example, if you have A, C, D, E, and F drives, assign the iPod letter M. Then check to see if the M drive is showing up in My Computer, and right click it and eject it if it is. Then restart the computer.
These steps are a modified version of the steps found here...

  • ITunes sees iPod but no songs

In iTunes, my iPod shows up with the correct name, but no files show up. When disconnected from my PC, all of my files show up and play just fine. Help! Thanks.

The songs that you had on your original computer are saved on that computer, and your iPod. You cannot drag songs off of an iPod and place them into a new library.
You can, however, use your iPod as an external hard drive, and use it to transfer files to a new computer:

  • WRT54G. Computer sees network but can't connect over wireless

So I have a WRT54G router since a couple of years now.  Laptop (Win7 64bit), ipod, ipad, phones can connect to it without a problem, but new computer (Win7 64bit) can't.  I can connect the PC via ethernet without a problem though.
I powercycled my devices, I changed broadcasting options off and then back on, changed my security mode, tried the MAC Cloning (after doing the MAC Cloning, I lost internet connectivity even through ethernet), resetted my security settings, changed SSID, I'm broadcasting through channel 11 2.462.  I also tried deleting the HomeGroup
Important fact: the network is in the list of available wireless network, but Signal Strength is No Signal and I can't connect to it.
My network adapter is ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card, drivers are up to date.
I've upgraded to the latest router firmware.
    I use a cable ISP.
I've been looking at everyone else's posts with similar problem but none of the suggestions fixed my problem.  Anyone has an idea?  I'm no techie so I may be missing something important/obvious...   Thanks a lot for replies (please don't hijack!)

As the concern is with your wireless connection and you have updated the firmware of the Router so once reset and reconfigure the Router... Since you are using Cable Connection refer the link for the configuration: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&vw=1&articleid=3686
As far as the wireless is concern make the channel to 6, 9 and 11...
Under Advanced Wireless Settings change Beacon Interval to 75, Fragmentation Threshold to 2306, RTS Threshold to 2307...

  • Device manager sees ipod but ipod update doesn't

Hello, sorry to be a nuisance.
    Hello,
Sorry, this has probably been dealt with before, but I can't see a solution so I thought I had better check.
I have a 4th generation 40gb ipod which I originally configured on my Mum's PC. I recently bought my own PC (moved out, hurrah!) and now am trying to install my iPod on my new PC (Windows XP).
However, whenever I plug it in, iPod updater refuses to accept that it is plugged into the machine, but it does appear in my PC's device manager.
Whenever I try to open it through device manager it just says that the drivers aren't installed correctly. Is there any way to get the drivers installed without using iPod updater?
I still have the iTunes CD that came with the ipod if that helps.
I've tried downloading updates for iTunes and updater but to no avail, put the iPod in disk mode, reinstalled the CD etc etc.
    Cheers!
    Chris

OK first thing you need to do is with it connected look to see if its listed in iTUnes, then see if its listed under "My Computer". sometimes it will show up as "IPOD" other times it just shows up as "Removable Disk".
If it shows up in "My Computer" and not iTunes this artical may be of some help http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
PS anytime you uninstall iTUnes and quicktime, you will disable any antivirus/security programs before reinstaling iTUnes
