Computer shows no Airport installed

Did a hard restart about an hour ago and when OS rebooted, I had no Airport. Attempt to troubleshoot through System Preferences revealed that hardware is no longer found.
Any suggestions?

Is your work computer a Mac with a firewire port?
If so, you could connect your Mac in target disk mode to the work Mac. Your hard drive will appear on the desktop of the other Mac, and you can install 10.6 to that drive.

Airport Extreme will not show USB drive installed Solved... At least for me!
Here's what I had to do to make it work with the newest 7.3.1 firmware.
Ready for this? No Joke Really!
1. Connect your USB drive to the Airport Extreme.
2. Turn it on.
3. Open the Airport Utility.
4. Go to Manual Setup.
5. Choose Disks and File Sharing.
Yep, we are going to set file sharing before we even see the disk we want to share!
You (I) had to set File Sharing on and Share Disks over Ethernet checked as well as set the Work Group (In my case). THEN restart the Airport Extreme.
After it re-started... My USB Drive was now present and ready for use.
I also dis-allowed Guest access. I re-started ALL computers in my network, both Windows and MAC. The USB drive held and works GREAT!
I know... Most of you thought this was a joke, It's not!
I tried everything to get the USB drive to work and failed every time just like most other people. Doing it this way worked like a charm.
Go Figure huh!

How was the usb hard drive formatted? Was it NTFS, FAT32, or HFS+?

Once I wrote my password, and for now on, everytime I start the session, another window advise me that "Java SE 6" is missing, due that, the computer can't run some "CS5Service Manager". If I try to install it, the download ends with an error. If finally, you skip the istallation, you arrive to the dock, but the menu bar at the top of the screen doesn't show up.
In addition, my trackpad doesn't works either. I can move the arrow but i can't click anywhere, probably because the option of clicking by touching is disabeled and I can't performance a regular click.
I'll be very glad if someone know what the heck is happening with my computer. Anyway, I'm going to the genius bar next Saturday. Thx!

Palm Desktop 6.2.2/Win 8 shows Media and Install? TRY THIS!

I now have a Windows 8.1 loaner from HP, and used it to compose this help file! Thanks HP!
If Palm Desktop 6.2.2 only shows Media and Install, try this: Right-click on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then choose "Run as Administrator". The other modules should appear.
To make Palm Desktop "Run as Administrator" every time in Windows 8/8.1:
Close Palm Desktop, if open. (This is a very important thing to always do when using 6.2.2 - it has been known to lose data when a computer is shut down without closing the program!)
Right Click on the Palm Desktop Icon in the Metro screen, then choose "Open File Location". You will now see the actual file for the shortcut.
Right-click on the "Palm Desktop" shortcut file, then Properties. Now pick the Compatibility Tab at the top.
At the bottom of the Compatibility Tab is a checkbox: "Run this Program as Administrator". Put a check in the box, then click OK to close the window.
Try opening Palm Desktop, all the modules should appear. You may see a box open when you close the program asking "Did the program run correctly?" I picked "Yes", and it's been working fine since then!
If you have an older PalmOS device (pre T|E for example) and still can't see any data after trying the above, you may need to use the PalmHotSyncSetup program available from pimlicosoftware.com. This will translate the databases from the older style to one Palm Desktop 6.2.2 can process.

I found out how to fix it.
I have been having trouble since the new Windows patches came through.
Right click on your shortcut and select Properties
Click on Open File Location
Right click on Palm.exe file and select Properties
Select Run as Administrator
Also select run as Windows 7
and apply.
Try to sync again and it should show all of your options.

Yes, you can!(:
STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.

New "Shared" Computer showing up?

Hi,
All of a sudden, I have a new device showing up in my "shared" list on the left side of my open windows. I'm not sure where it came from or how to get rid of it. I've searched the threads here, but couldn't find the answer, so would appreciate any help.
I have a G4 Tower connected directly via ethernet to an Airport Extreme, using a DSL modem. I also have a MacBook that connects via Airport, and it also shows this unknown device. When I "Get info" on the device, it says it's a "PC Server" but no more info, and clicking on it shows two folders, "D" and "SharedDocs," and that I'm connected as: Guest.
I've never put any password on my network (we live in a pretty rural area, so never felt the need). But I'm wondering if it's a neighbor's computer showing up?
How do I get rid of this icon?

There is no "somehow." You neighbor was "stealing" your WiFi. Let's hope he was not smart enough to access your computer.

I changed my Airport Network to WPA security (from no security at all), and the "rogue" device is no longer there.
You should be using WPA2 - even WPA has been compromised and WEP is a joke these days.
Eventually everyone will learn to use WPA2.

How to indentify an unknown shared computer showing in finder?

For quite some time I've been seeing a computer show up under shared in finder. It appears as macbook-2cd86c. When I click on it is states that I'm connected as a "guest". I can identify my husband's MacBook. If it helps to know, we both connect to the internet wirelessly and use AT&T UVerse. I thought that maybe it be the name of the router, but we've changed it a few times and the name of the unknown macbook has remained the same. We also both have iphones that sync to our respective computers. Our network is WPA protected. How can I indentify this unknown computer?

In the bottom Right look for "MAC Address"

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Open iTunes and then connect you to the iTunes store
and on the right you will see "Purchased"
and it will show you all the app that you have purchase during the years , and on right corner of the page you can choose to download everything again

Wifi icon showing "No hardware installed"

The Wifi icon on the bar is showing "No hardware installed". Could it be the network adapter has broken and need replacement? Any troubleshooting I can do before sending it for repair?

Doesn't appear to have a card installed that is being detected. Mine shown below.
Try the SMC reset suggested by leroy's post.

If that doesn't work, if you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing.

I installed parallels and shut off all sharing prefs for the PC as well as deleted PC sharing from the Network list..

Not Approved Updates Showing up for Install on Clients

I have a group of servers that have an update that was selected as "Not Approved" for the group they are located in on WSUS, yet they show up for install when doing a windows update. If the update was selected on WSUS as "Not Approved"
why is it showing up on the servers available for installation? I don't want to decline the update as it is approved for other groups on WSUS, I simply don't want some groups to get this particular update so I made it "Not Approved" for that group.

Because "NotApproved" is not a DENY condition; it's merely the absence of an ALLOW condition.
It only takes one approval in one group of which a computer is a member for it to have permission to install an update. If a computer belongs to multiple groups and you don't want the update deployed, the update must be NotApproved (i.e. not allowed) for
ALL groups of which that client system is a member
I strongly encourage the practice of creating group structures so that an update only has to be approved for ONE group (or one parent group), and then ensure that group (or group structure) only has computers that should get that update.
Sometimes this also involves creating custom groups just to handle individual updates.

Computer cannot read AirPort Extreme CD

I just bought an AirPort Extreme 802.11n router. I set it up just fine with the included CD on my main PC, which the router is connected to.
Unfortunately, my MacBook Pro will not read the included CD (not a cleanliness/scratch issue since the PC reads it perfectly). What is problematic is that the software to upgrade my AirPort wireless card to use the 802.11n standard is supposed to be on that disk--so I'm stuck with 802.11g (which my Network Utility confirms).
So, 2 part question:
1) How can I get my wireless card to upgrade to 802.11n?
2) Is there any other software on the disk that would be helpful, aside from the aforementioned (n) upgrader, that I should get access to?

Not sure if you got this resolved or not, I had a similar problem. I would get an error message when I would try to install the Software that came with the Airport Extreme. The problem I found was that my computer already had Bonjour installed. So my guess is that your Mac computer already has this software installed. When you initially start setup you can diable installation of Bonjour. You did mention it won't read your disk, so this may not be your problem but wanted to mention it.

Up next doesn't seem to work properly with multiple speakers over airplay. The status bar on the computer shows the song playing, but not over airplay. When I restart the song it plays, but the same thing happens when the next song cues up. Any ideas?
