Computer Shutdowns without reason

My colleague ran down the hard drive free space to almost nil. I was able to back up the important files and free up sufficient space. I ran disk utility and Apple Jack to repair scrambled files/directories. Everything seemed good to go but just before the computer started crashing and showing problems and I was able to free the disk space, she reported the computer just shutting down by itself without warning after 30 minutes or so. I thought my clean up would fix the issue however it still persists. Any ideas?

You can't simply add the amperages together. Combined maximum amperage for Giftmacher's PSU for all 12V rails is 50A (600W), not 54A.

In any case, what does his PSU have to do with ashourism's problem?
Correction 50A total.

  • Acrobat Conflicts with Computer Shutdown

    I use Vista Operating System and IE8.  About a month ago, my computer shutdown started taking 15 minutes or longer to complete.  When it did complete, I got a computer dump.  When I restarted the computer, I got a dialog box informed me that the computer was shutdown improperly.  Otherwise, everything operated okay when I was using the computer.
    But since I am traveling and have to shutdown the computer frequently, I took it to Best Buy for diagnosis.  After a lot of back and forth, they discovered the problem:  "ntkrnimp.exe is the cause of the error."  It was determined that an Adobe installation installed the file with either Flash Player or Acrobat Reader.  Their solution was to remove both installations.  Unfortunately, I haven't figured out a way to do without either of these products so I reinstalled them.
    When they are installed the problem happens on EVERY shutdown or restart. If they are uninstalled, the shutdown is quick and clean.  It appears that both Acrobat Reader AND Flash Player have to be removed to fix the shutdown.  At this point my solution is to (1) wait out the shutdown which sometimes takes as long as 30 minutes, (2) uninstall the 2 Adobe programs (and then reinstall), or (3) GET A FIX... IS THERE A SOLUTION????
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,

    Thanks, Berndt:  I thought this might be a Windows problem is the reason I posted here.  I assume you are correct and will post under Acrobat Reader.

  • Trying to add a movie to an iPod makes the computer shutdown?

    This is my first time posting here, so please bear with me if I do something incorrectly. One of my new movies refuses to be added to my iPod. When I try to add it, the progress bar gets most of the way there before freezing. Then my computer completely shuts down and says that Windows has been shutdown in order to prevent damage. I updated iTunes to the latest version and my iPod is updated as well. I tried it a few times, the first time I didn't actually see it happen and thought maybe one of the cats stepped on the keyboard or something. The second time it only closed iTunes, but the third time the entire computer shutdown again. After that I updated iTunes to see if that would fix the problem and tried again, but it did the same thing. Looking around, I did see a few topics similar, but couldn't find anything that was my exact issue. The interesting thing is that it's just that one movie. I tested a few others by moving them to and from my iPod and it went fine. When I play the movie in iTunes it also appears to play completely normal. I haven't sat down and watched the whole thing, but jumping around here and there went fine. Since it's only this one movie, I'm wondering if the issue may be with the file itself? However, I would think that if there was an issue with the file it wouldn't play ok. But I'm unsure how I would delete and redownload it without possibly messing something up. I'm also concerned that if I keep trying it and the same thing keeps happening that it might actually end up damaging my computer somehow. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Also, I'm not sure if it may matter or not, but the movie does have iTunes extras. I did check though, and one of my other movies with extras added to my iPod normally so I don't think that's the problem.

  • I am unable to sync photos to iPad. My computer shutdown during the photo optimisation process

    I am using the latest software and updates on both my iPad 2 and windows 7 32 bit laptop. I have reinstalled the latest edition of iTunes, and yet I still cannot do a synch to my iPad 2 as the computer shutdown during photo optimisation.
    I have even reinstalled windows so there is nothing else I can think of.
    Does anyone know how I can get photos on my iPad without making windows shutdown... It's driving me mad. Seems to be ok with my iPod and iphone4, it's just the iPad that's causing the trouble. Help me PLEASE!!!

    Do you mean crashes (as in some software problem) or turns off completely (hardware issue) ?
    If it's crashing then it's a different problem and you'd be better starting a new thread. If it's hardware then the same things apply as have already been mentioned above.
    It's clear that iPhoto (at least the Mac version, I don't use Windows) puts a lot of load on the processor - more than most people ever do at other times. If the thermal management is not up to scratch, the processor will overheat, and the machine will just switch off without warning. I agree it's "rather annoying" In programming terms it's the right thing to to, run parallel threads and fully utilise the resources available - you don't worry about overheating the processor since that should not happen in a properly designed and built system.
    So check your BIOS settings to make sure any settings there are correct. If the machine is still under warranty then take it back to the supplier and tell them the thermal management isn't right. Other than that, you may have to start investigating the hardware - is the heatsink and fan up to the job, is the headsink properly mated to the processor, and so on. I'd not suggest getting into this yourself unless you know what you are doing - find someone that does since it's easy to make matters worse.
    As I mentioned above, at first I was doing photos in small batches (or or two events or folders at a time) and allowing the processor to cool down in between (you need a utility that will tell you the core temperature to do this). This is a right PITA though. Then I found there is a utility in Apple's dev tools for turning off cores for testing - turning off a core made things run more slowly but meant that the processor didn't overheat and I could just leave it. It may be worth looking in your BIOS and/or OS to see if there's something similar - or a means of turning down the clock speed.

  • M60 Shutdown without user action

    Hello,
    i use a Satellite M60 Notebook with Win XP and i bought this notebook on 11/15/2005.
    I use an actuell anti-virus software and some anti-sypware tools.
    But from the first use of the notebook it shutdown without user action.
    I can't solve the problem because the settings for the notebook are "Desktop" and "Never Shutdown" for the harddisk and monitor in the energyoptions.
    "Standby" is set on "never" too.
    I thought, that the Toshiba tools are the problem and so i uninstall them, but this didn't solve the problem.
    Who have had the same problem and solved it?
    Many thanks for all answers.
    Wolfgang

    Hi
    Well, one of the reasons why the notebook shuts down without any user action is a overheating issue. If the temperature goes to a critical limit inside of notebook so the OS shuts down the unit and protect it.
    Well, its not easy to say why it happens. Maybe the cooling modules dont work properly.
    I see that your notebook is under warranty and all replacements and repair procedures will be done for free. In this case I propose to contact the ASP (Toshiba service partner). He can make some diagnostic test and replace some parts if its necessary.
    But first of all I would recommend to recover the unit with the Recovery CD for testing if its a software or hardware issue.
    Bye

  • Configuring Shutdown without logon, using command line or script

    I´ve configured the shutdown without logon capability in Win2012/R2 using the GPEDIT.MSC
    How cna i do that by command line?
    In the past i could use the reg key ShutdownWithoutLogon, but i´ve configured in the GUI but nothing happened in the registry of the win2012/R2
    C:\>reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v ShutdownWithoutLogon
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
        ShutdownWithoutLogon    REG_SZ    0
    How can i do that, automated, to configure several computers in workgroup environment

    Hi KayZerSoze,
    Since there has no domain enviroment, remote access is more difficult. However,  if the network allows this two workgroups can communicate with each other, you can try Powershell Remoting:
    Server 1 remote access Server 2.
    1) Run
    Enable-PSRemoting –Force on server2
    You need to run
    Enable-PSRemoting –Force on server1, which gives you the rights to access and modify TrustedHosts setting, or you will receive the error “Set-Item : Access is denied.”
    2) You can add the TrustedHosts entry on server1:
    Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts –Value remoteipaddress
    This command above configures Windows PowerShell Remoting so that you can connect to any computer, not just those inside trusted domain(s).
    Then run the script below to change registry value on server2 with Powershell, which will change the value of "ShutdownWithoutLogon"
    to "1":
    Invoke-Command -ComputerName server2ipaddress -Credential admin -ScriptBlock {Set-itemproperty -path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" -name ShutdownWithoutLogon -value 1}
    For more detailed information about Powershell Remoting, please Refer to this FAQ:

  • Catching computer shutdown

    Been browsing the forum without finding a solution. I'm using Runtime.addShutdownHook() to catch termination and it works fine handling Control-C. But it can't catch a regular shutdown in WinXP!
    I'm writing a small app logging computer uptime so I wan't to write to file before the computer shuts down. Has anyone managed to catch computer shutdown?

    eeh, what?Flushing should write everything to the file. Then it
    doesn't matter how the file is terminated.He never writes the file because the shutdown of the VM happens without him knowing.
    Another alternative is to rewrite a file every 10 minutes and write the current time in it. At boot, just read that file and you have within 10 minutes how long the computer was up.

  • Satellite A205-S5803 (Shutdown without warning)

    I have Satellite A205-S5803.  It automatically shutdown after regular use of 2 or 3 hours without any warning.  I changed the hard disk yesterday because it shows the windows starting bar but not open the windows loging page and it shows mouse pointer and hard disk goes off. I treid to install new windows from recovery cd but it also load the window then hard disk goes off.  Then I change the hard disk and now problem is it automatically shutdown without any notification or warning.  I am very disponting due to this situation and don't these problems raise as my warranty over (my warranty finsish before 2 months).  I request to you kindly guide me properly what I do.

    Either of these two are for your computer.
       KTT667D2/2G
       KTT800D2/2G
    So far as I know they will work in Slot A, with Slot B empty of course.
    BTW, Windows Vista will barely work in 1 GB. Those computers should never have been released.

    Wow the customer service is even worse. Does Apple want me to go around jailbreaking my iPod now so I can use something that actually recognizes my product?

  • What is the procedure for a hard boot of my iPod touch 4th generation without itunes, and without computer, and without iPod data screen.?

    What is the procedure for a hard boot of my iPod touch 4th generation
    without iTunes, and without computer, and without iPod data screen?
    6 months after purchase I updated my iPod touch as recommend by iTunes.
    It has not worked since that day.  It frozen (disabled) with a "connect to
    iTunes" icon displayed...that is the only thing it does.  itunes does not
    recognize the iPod.  My Windows7 computer recognizes an Apple device.
    Other computers recognize the devise but if iTunes resided on that
    computer it did not recognize the iPod
    I suffered a setback with deep depression and am just now getting out of it enough to do something.  The depression prohibited me from taking action.
    I have done every procedure recommended from Apple help and external
    sources.  I did this thoroughly with help for other owners and IT experts,
    Apple employees etc etc.  I and associates have perform reboots utilizing a
    number procedure using only button on the iPod.  These were unsuccessful
    also have performed.
    Please do not ask me to do the usual.
    Online I saw  a process using the buttons on the iPod to completely
    reformat
    the iPod.  It was NOT the hold buttons for 10 sec let go of one wait 8 sec
    etc.  I can not find the process now...a friend showed it to me in passing
    I have lost contact with him.  This is the procedure, I believe, that with
    enable me to update and use the iPod.

    You need an internet connection and likely a computer with iTunes but an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with the FindMy iPhone App may work by:
    If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
    You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    Otherwise
    Disabled
    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
    iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
    If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
    You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
    Yo may have to go to an Apple store or a friend's house with an internet connection and iTunes.

  • T410 System Halted Without Reason

    It is so frustrated that will have to reboot the laptop at least once almost daily due to the system halted without reason. Is there a way / tool for me to find out on what is causing all this to happen?

    What are your hardware specs?
    I had the same problem -- my T410 has
    * Core i7 620M
    * 8GB RAM
    * Win 7 Ult SP1 (slipstreamed)
    * 500GB Seagate Momentus XT
    * Optimus graphics
    * Intel Centrino 6300
    The issue I found that was freezing the laptop was Optimus Graphics + Intel Centrino 6300. Switching off Optimus graphics & its detection in the BIOS eliminated the freezing (shove-under-the-carpet solution).

    My new hp pavilion that I bout around october 2014'seem to be shutdown without warning. it shutdown with the shutdown window appear thou. it happen 3 times. please help

    Hi @timotius ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and having it shut down without warning. Here is a link to restore the BIOS. Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
    Can get to safe mode with command prompt?  sfc /scannow would scan your system for errors at the command prompt. You could check this Microsoft document on system recovery options.
    Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system. If you needed an update this could cause what you have installed.
    Did you install any software or hardware?
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks.

    After a forced computer shutdown, OS X 10.9.5, I have received this message, PS could not initialize Photoshop because the preference file was invalid (it has been deleted).

    One idea is to hold down the cmd-opt-shift keys and start Photoshop. It will ask you if you want to delete the settings file. Answer "Yes" and it will create a new Preferences files. Photoshop should continue  to load.
