Computer shuts down at start

Hi everyone,
I have just bought a new computer with motherboard MSI K8N NEO FSR (the rest should be in the signature) and put it together. The problem is that almost emidietly after starting it, it shuts down again. Sometimes (when I've waited for a long time) it goes a bit further and ones it even began installing XP before it shutt down.
I've tried to run without the fanmate 2 belonging to my Zalman fan but without effect. I've also tried putting the PSU(Antec TruePower 380W) fan both to the "only fan" connector and to a regular one.
When I have the CMOS pin at "keep" my computer behavs as above, shutting of att different times. Having CMOS at "clear" it always shuts off at the same time, after about 5 secs before anything is visible on the screen.
My guess is that the motherboard doesn't understand that the fans are running and therefore shuts the computer down. A bit similar to a problem adressed in the FAQ but since I can't start my computer the problem isn't the same and naturaly I can't investigate any temperaturs and so on.
Can anyone help me?
Regards

You found the problem, Antec TruePower 380W only gives:
+5V: 35A
+12: 18A
+3.3: 28A
Which of course sucks a lot in my case, maybe TruePower isn't the right name.
I think the current requirements is something MSI should have in the product info, how am I supposed to know this? Sure, I could have read that tread before ordering it but it didn't occur to me that a 380W PSU wouln't be enough.
Now, when I criticized both Antec and MSI I will go onto the computer store who let me make such a stupid choice of components . I see them selling complete computers with my PSU and MSI K8N Neo Platinum, is the Platinum somehow less powerconsuming? Or is there some other solution?

  • Computer shuts down and starts up by itself. I have 27" mid-2011 model. Has been like this for 2 years now. The hard drive and the mother board has been replaced already. No help, the problem still returns.

    This morning it started again.
When I write the word "shut" to console it says:
    kernel[0] Previous shutdown cause: 0
locationd[55] locationd was started after an unclean shutdown
    kernel[0] Previous shutdown cause: -128
locationd[55] locationd was started after an unclean shutdown
locationd[54] locationd was started after an unclean shutdown
    kernel[0] Previous shutdown cause: 3
Yosemite is installed. But the problem has happened with every operating systems.
Disk utility can't find any problems.
No usb or other devices are connected.
I deleted the file: com.apple.PowerManagement.plist (someone suggested that it may help)
I think it's not the matter of heat, because the problem occurs right away when starting my comp.
With a safe mode it sometimes stays up for hours. So could it be a problem with applications, rather than hardware?
    Help is highly appreciated!
    Thank you!

Thank you, I did ran etrecheck.
    Here's the result.
Now my computer did shuts down even in safe mode, sometimes in seconds.
So I have to keep this short.

  • Computer shuts down after start up

I have just updated my system and now its restarting, it goes to the startup and then i see the apple sign and i see a small bar underneath which is filling up, it doesnt even go half way and my macbook shuts down, this process is happening each time i am starting up macbook, i tried using command S and den trying to format, which does not work , i really need help on this matter

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When your computer turns off with the progress bar on the display, it means that OS X is trying to repair your drive. If your Mac turns off, it means that fsck command couldn't repair the hard drive, so OS X can't start. Something happens with your hard drive.
If you have an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting to start in OS X Recovery. Then, open Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair the drive.
If it can be repaired, restart your computer and see if it can start. If not, you have to replace the hard drive.
Take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller only if your computer is in warranty or you don't want to do this yourself (the repair is free if it's in warranty). If it's not in warranty, have a look at a hard drive and install OS X on it. You can look for hard drives at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/

  • Computer shuts down after starting web browser etc. in fresh install

i re-installed last night as i noticed a while ago i was using 64bit and had been meaning to get around to switching to 32bit.
the install went fine, but when i install xorg and a window manager (i tried dwm and openbox), and start a web browser (i tried midori and luakit), my laptop shuts itself down as if it had overheated or something similar.
at first i thought my laptop was having trouble, but i'm currently booted into a manjaro livecd (i know), and can browse etc. with no issues.
any ideas on what might be causing this, or what i can post here to help troubleshot?
    thanks.

Does the laptop shutdown immediately after you open any web browser? Do any other applications, such as Thunderbird or LibreOffice, cause this behaviour?
Does your laptop do a controlled shutdown or a *poof* hard shutdown?
Can you get a temperature reading from your computer (by using software tools) as you open a web browser?
Also (and this is gonna sound weird) please post your PATH variable. ("echo $PATH")

  • Computer shuts down while starting up

I have a 400 MHz iMac, not sure what model exactly it is, but when I try to start it up, it turns on and makes the classic OS X starting up noise. The light on the power button turns on, the caps lock light on the keyboard flashes on, and you can hear the cd drive start to boot when all of a sudden the whole computer turns off.
I made sure the socket i was plugged into wasn't shorting out or anything, i also checked to make sure the ram was in there properly, but i can't think of anything else to check. So does anyone have any idea what may be happening?

    EthanD...
The symptoms you describe sounds like the Flyback went out (PAV Board). You seem to get past the POST (Power On Self Test), as the keyboard light flashes, just to loose it on monitor startup. That is the last item of the self-protect cycle and down it goes.
Unfortunately unless you know how to do the work, that is extremely dangerous, it is an expensive professional repair.

  • Computer shuts down then starts right back up

So I'll be working on my iMac (got it in July 2005) and it's like it will suddenly go into sleep mode on it's own. The screen just goes dark! Ever time this happens I tap the space key and it starts right back up, exactly where I left off. This started happening in the last year or so and only happens every now and then - it's not quite a problem yet, but I've been reading about some of the other problems on this board and suspect I might have future issues. Also, is it okay to blow out the fan vents with a can of compressed air?

    You should try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
followed by this procedure to reset the SMU (power management)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
Also, is it definitely putting the whole iMac to sleep, and not just your display? If it is only +display sleep+, it is possible that you have one of your screen corners, called +Hot Corners+, set to +Put display to sleep+. If you do, and when you roll the mouse cursor over that screen corner, your display will go to sleep for a moment, until you do something with the keyboard or mouse and it immediately wakes up.
You can check in System Preferences +Desktop & Screen Saver+ pane +Screen Saver+ tab; click the button for +Hot Corners+.

I do not have a startup disk. I did try fsck (based on what I learned from your reply-thank you). This failed (fsck); here is the message:
    ** Checking catalog file.

    hello everybody,

Before a week ago, how long had you been working with Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit without problems?
Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on that computer with Premiere Elements 11?
Any new programs, 3rd party plug-ins and codecs, installed?
Where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free space is at those designated locations? Any pile ups
of preview files in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder or conformed audio files in the Media Cache

  • Help with ipod and computer shut downs...please.

I've posted this in two other forums to no avail -- lots of views, but no help.
My family now has 3 ipods (we only had 1 before) and yesterday I was trying to get them all set up - updates on the actual ipod, and I've updated itunes to 7.5. There are two issues here:
    1) I am not able to register ANY of the ipods. I get all the way through the process to the very end and then it gives me an error message (after clicking the "No thanks" at the bottom of the page that asks if you want to download the videos) saying that the service couldn't be found? Or something like that. Ok, fine...I can handle not being able to register them for the time being.
    2) I could keep itunes on all day long, as long as the Ipod is NOT CONNECTED. As soon as I connect the ipod (any of the 3 new ones - they all do the same thing) - ok, maybe not as soon as, but shortly thereafter - my entire computer shuts down. No error message, no blue screen of death, no warning - it just shuts down. It might be after I move a song from the "purchased" folder to the actual ipod. Or, as happened yesterday, it's right smack in the middle of a download (happened with both videos AND songs) and then of course, I have to try and purchase it again. I'm not even sure if it took my money already, but if it did, I'm SOL because I paid, but don't have the video/song since it never finished downloading.
I've done everything that's been recommended to me - I disabled all my start up programs (except the windows ones) and that didn't resolve anything.
    My system is as follows:
Windows XP Home Edition (all updated except for microsoft office 2003)
    Service Pack 2
    AMD Athalon 64 3000+
    1.81 GHz
    2GB RAM
Not sure what else you need to know, to try and help me resolve this. Thanks for your time.

  • Computer shuts down when I click on the list or grid display button

I've uninstalled an reinstalled 3 times and instead of the computer shutting down when I start itunes as it was doing, it only does it when I click on the display as a list, grid or cover display button. However it seems to unistall some parts at the same time as I can't open it all afterwards (error message says its not installed). This started to occur after a couple of weeks of non use and when I last used it I purchased songs from itunes. I now have current version but didn't when it first statred to happen. Help!!

Okay ... we'd better have a closer look at the minidumps the PC has been producing to see if they can turn up any additional information on what we're dealling with here.
Open "My Computer", and see if you can find a directory called C:\Windows\Minidump. (That's where minidumps usually go on a PC, so long as the Systemroot hasn't been set to some other folder.)
If it's been collecting minidumps, there should be files in there with names like "Mini(number-numbers).dmp"
(If you have "Hide filename extensions for known file types" enabled in Windows, the ".dmp" extension may not appear on the dump files. The numbers in the file name will be different for each minidump, if minidumps are present.)
Once we've tracked down some minidumps, we can have a go at analysing them.
    1. Download and install the Windows debugging tools from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
    2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
    3. Click on "File > Symbol File Path". Here you will enter the symbols
path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
    The path will be:
    SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to "File > Save Workspace"
so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
    5. Go to "File > Open Crash Dump" and load the file.
(An "Open Crash Dump" screen will appear ... doubleclick "My Computer", doubleclick "Local Disk", doubleclick "Windows", doubleclick "Minidump", and doubleclick on one of the minidumps in there.)
You will/should get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it,
as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed.
After the "bugcheck analysis" part of the screen comes up, look for the component that seems to be causing the crash. (It'll say "Probably caused by" ...)
Let us know the precise name of the component. (Include any file name extensions like .dll or .sys.)
If you can, have a look at several of your crash dumps. Are all the crashes being caused by the same component? If not, could you let us know the names of the various components being cited in the various crash dumps?

  • Power Mac G4 Shuts down at start up

    Hello,
I have a power mac g4 that Shuts down at start up. It will get to the white screen with the apple for about a minute and then shut itself down. I tried starting up from a disk and it doesn't even get that far.I haven't replaced any parts yet but I was wondering if it may be a problem with the computer's power supply. Any suggestions are appreciated, Thanks

You may need to reset the logic board. If you open the side of the G4, you should be able to find the reset switch.
Unplugging it first would be a good idea.

  • Computer shuts down after 5-15 minutes

After 5-15 minutes of inactivity the computer shuts down when on battery. As long as the computer stays active, it will not shut down; ie: netflix watch now not a problem.
Support had me do a hard reset with battery removed; repair permissions; and reset pram; but the problem continues. The Leopard I am using is an upgrade, clean install with latest update. This behavior does not occur when I run the computer off of an external usb inclosure with old Tiger operating system, running on the original disk . So this suggests to me that it is a software and not hardware problem. Also when plugged in the computer will eventually quit and restart on its own.
Is there anything else to try or is archive and install the only option left because I have a corrupted Leopard install ??
    Thanks for any suggestions !!

    rakki,
Just curious. When did this problem start? Possibly when you upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5? (10.4.11 to 10.5.5 even?).
I'm having similar though not identical issues with battery performance that started the day I upgraded to 10.5.5 from 10.4.11.
