Jenn
are you getting any sort of blue screen, Jenn? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

Computer shuts down while importing
This doesn’t happen with every song I try to import in iTunes, but let’s say with 2 out of 10 songs, while importing my computer simply shuts down. Just before it dies on me it says something like: Error, disk locked. I just can’t figure out what’s his problem.
Hp Pavilion dv1000 Windows XPProblem solved for me... I changed the place of my computer which seem to have helped. I think the problem was heat... too much heat and now I can import a full CD without my computer to shut down. If it is not heat, I read that it could be bad memory. if my computer shuts down again, I will check the memory of my computer.

Computer shuts down when importing CDs to iTunes! HELP PLEASE!
Every time I try to import a CD onto iTunes, my computer shuts down. It will let me import one song at a time with no problem, but when I try to load a whole CD, the power just shuts off. Can someone out there who knows about computers please help me?
Do you have a dual core or dual processer? Sounds like it. Read this it should help you out.
Oh nm they changed the article to say they fixed the bug with the newest release from yesterday. Go download the latest version that came out yesterday and see if it helps you your PC. You probaly do have a dual processor. The new iTunes fixes that importing CD bug. -
Computer shuts down when importing
Hi everyone.
I've been having a big problem with ripping music from CDs onto my computer (using iTunes, of course). It seems that every time I begin importing a CD, my computer shuts down. There is no warning, no sound, no blue screen. The computer simply turns off. It does this at no other time, only when I am importing a CD. It's very frustrating, and has only recently been occuring. I've uploaded over 20 gigs of music before this with no problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
GordonAre you sure your laptop isn't overheating? Mine can when doing things like importing/burning CDs (but not necessarily while doing other things like surfing the web unless I'm on for a long time). Like you said, my laptop would just click off with no warning or anything. I know you say you've imported music before, but since you have a laptop I imagine you've been moving it around and recently you may have moved it to a spot that isn't as well ventilated. After several instances of a burned lap and not so burned CDs, I finally figured out that was my problem ...

Potential Args, Computer shutting down while playing a game
I've only had this mac for 5 months, but it keeps shutting down while I'm playing StarCraft II. It should be able to handle the game, but it keeps telling me to restart and I have no idea what the error says or means. I'm not sure what (4 potential args on stack) means. I'm not sure if it is a frame rate issue and how to fix it or change the frame rate if needed. Any help would be much appreciated. The error is below:

Blizzard created the junk, and it's up to them to properly patch it. The list of other well known and respected programs it's incompatible with (LittleSnitch, AppCleaner, FileVault, and PeerGuardian to name a few) doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy.
The page also mentions that your CPU can overheat, for whatever reason, and that means total failure for a laptop or early component damage to a motherboard. Gee, that sounds like something that shouldn't be run on a regular basis. -
Computer shuts down while updating Ipod?
Hi
I have a Video Ipod and an old laptop, my problem is that my computer shuts down 2 minutes after I open Itunes.
My question is, whether the Ipod saves the little data that is transfered, when the transfer is abrubted by the computer shutting down?
(If it saves it I can keep on updating tiny bits of my music libary, otherwise I will stop wasting my time restarting the upload proces over and over again)
ThanksYou might consider reposting this question in one of the iPod discussion forums here - which are for both Windows and Mac user problems.

Computer shuts down when importing CDs and playing video
When in iTunes, my computer completely shuts off a couple mintues in when trying to import a CD or play video. I have asked around and reinstalled and nothing seems to help. Any ideas! Very frustrating.
I just started having the same problem. I was able to import songs from 5 cds with no problem, but when I tried a few more my mac started shutting down about halfway through the import of the song. It doesn't matter how many songs I choose to import, it happens on the first one everytime. Did you find a fix for this?

Windows shuts down while importing CDs
Please help!
I purchased my iPod 30 Gig Video about two weeks ago. I have a Windows XP Home SP2 computer. When I’m importing CDs Windows shuts down the computer and dumps the physical memory. This happens when I usually put in the second CD. Here are the specs of my computer:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
2.08 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
I have a Memorex DVD 16+/-DL4RWD2 DVD/CD-ROM drive
For my virus protection I’m using Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security2006
When the problem first started I uninstalled and reinstalled the iTunes/iPod software. I made sure that all of the previous versions of iTunes and Quicktime were deleted. When I reinstalled I turned off my virus protection.
Lately when I’ve come across this problem I turn off the virus protection thinking that that might have something to do with it.
I have all the current Windows updates and the drivers for all of my hardware is also current. I don’t know if my virus protection is causing many problems (i.e. firewall, etc.) Can someone please help?
Thanks.Your's isn't a dual processor (or simulated dual processor, aka, hyperthreaded) machine, is it? I and many others have found this problem to occur on such machines (when is Apple going to fix this problem?) Some have found forcing iTunes to run on only one processor to be a successful workaround (there are at least a couple freeware utilities out there (I don't recall their names OTTOMH) that will force a PC app to run on only one processor on multi-processor machines, or you can try, after starting iTunes up, cntr-alt-deleting and selecting Task Manager, then in the list of running apps, right-click on iTunes and choose Go To Process, then right-click on the selected process and select Set Affinity, and uncheck one (or all but one if you happen to have more than two processors) of the boxes) but this didn't work for me: I had to physically remove one of my two processors - I haven't had the problem since, so I'm confident that was (is) the problem in my case. (But I'm still ****** 'cause I very purposefully bought a dual processor machine; it just so happens that right now I'm doing more CD importing than dual core work, so for now it's the best solution for me, but I eagerly await the day I hear that Apple has FIXED THIS PROBLEM!)

My computer shuts down after importing a cd?
i just bought a 30gig/video ipod a few days ago. while importing my music library to be converted, my computer simply shuts down. it will convert about 10 songs, sometimes a whole cd, but ultimately closes all operations and shuts down. i have 3000+ songs to convert, so this is quite bothersome, please help
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions. -

Iphoto unexpectedly shuts down while importing photos
Recently iphoto has been shutting down every time i try to import photos from my camera. i originally thought that it was a problem with my CF card but i tried uploading with a new one and als an SD card but i have had the same problem. ANyone haveing the same problem, any ideas how to fix it? i am using v6.06.
TimmyW
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Ensure that you have the latest version of the OS (10.4.10), Quicktime (7.1.6) and the app.
1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
4. Are there movies on these cards as well as photos?

IMac G5 shuts down while importing HDV video in iMovie
So here is the problem, my 20" iMac G5 will be importing video from my Sony HDV camera, and will just shut down. I mean turn off completely. It happened 6 times yesterday to my wife. When I try to turn it back on, sometimes it will work, sometimes, I have to unplug the iMac from the plug and wait 30seconds before it will turn on again. Any one have any experience with this? Is it a power supply issue? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

COMPUTER SHUTS DOWN WHILE CONVERTING
can anyone tell me what going on with my computer? I start converting songs on itunes and is suddenly shuts down..
I don't see that you have had a response to this. I had the same problem in a PC that I built for my sons and it was caused by memory that had gone bad. You can check this by searching and downloading memtest 86+ it is a simply program that tests memory. Follow the instructions from the memtest site on how to create a boot disk or flash drive. If it is memory it is a fairly simple fix.
