Computer shuts off suddenly

i have a satellite Firefox laptop 305-d . it just shuts off with no warning . sometimes its takres awhile when its been turned off for a while and when its been on it does it alot . anybody got ideas ?

I have a similar problem with my L675D-57016.  I have tried several times to reboot it to factory conditions using both the discs that I created right after openin the laptop and the internal harddrive with the same result.  The computer will ramdonly click off even the LED lights in the front go completely out.  This is a very disapointing problem because I have an older toshiba laptop that is an absolute trooper and can be fixed no matter what. Please help me with a solution to my problem.  It would be a real same if your product qualtiy has dropped that far so quickly, becuase it used to be the best out there.

  • My computer shuts off suddenly w/o warning

Hi - I recently upgraded my older white Mac to Lion system and a week or so ago put in a new battery. The instructions for the battery were to put the energy saver/sleep on "never" until the battery completely ran down the first time. After the computer shut off suddenly without the usual "your battery is low" warning, I remembered to put it back on energy saver mode but it's still shutting off w/o warning if I don't keep an eye on it and plug it in before it dies. Any ideas what might be causing this?

    Hi Sharusz,
If you are having unusual power/battery issues that are leading to sudden unannounced shutdowns, you may want to try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). You may find the following article helpful:

You may also want to try re-calibrating the battery again, just in case the charge status is being misreported to the computer:

  • I was working on a word document  and the computer shut down suddenly.

I was working on a word document  and the computer shut down suddenly. I got a grey screen with a message that your computer shut down because of a proble. It was written in various languages. It asked me to press any key to restart. I tried to restart it but the wheel just kept going on and on. So I shut it down and I tried to restart it. But I still keepgetting the wheel under the apple symbol and nothing else.

  • Whenever I play a game that requires flash my computer shuts off..

Hi guys, I am new to this forum and I am hoping I can get some answers. I am pretty Tech savvy and I've tried everything I can think of to fix this problem.
First I will give my system specs.
    Mobo: Asus m4n68t-m V2
    CPU: Athlon II X4 640 @ 3.0ghz
    RAM: OCZ 1333mhz 6gb
    Video: Galaxy - Geforce 8400GS
    PSU: 500watt Diablotec
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
My problem occurs when I try to run any Adobe Flash based games or videos. I can get anywhere from 2 seconds to 20 minutes but it will ultimately shut my computer off, as if I had unplugged it. I get no error or warning before it happens and the only thing I can get from the "event viewer" in the administrative tools is a Critical error - Source: Kernel-Power, ID 41.
I have noticed that other people have had this problem but I have found no results as far as a remedy to the problem.
I have been monitoring my cpu temperatures and at idle I am running at about 40 degrees Celsius. The temperature does not go above 45 Degrees when I run a flash program, so I have ruled out the possibility of overheating. I have also done troubleshooting with my power supply to rule out the possibility of too much power consumption.
It seems to be a compatibility issue, but I don't know what with.
I have a seagate 1Tb drive that I use for backing up all my files.  I was told it may have been corrupted and to unhook it and do a fresh install of windows.  I did this morning.  After the installation was done, I downloaded flash player 10 and tried to log on to facebook and play fishville.  NO new drivers were installed and the computer shut off immediately when I tried to run "Fishville".
Its not the browser either.  I have tried it on IE8, IE9 beta, Google Chrome and Firefox.  Same result with every single browser and every single Flash based game or video.
My last resort is to take a hammer to the computer and send the parts back to Micro-Center where I bought them.. twice.  I thought maybe I had gotten a bad piece of hardware so I took all of it back and exchanged for new parts.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

    Update:
I have since gotten rid of the Asus Motherboard and the OCZ Memory.  I swapped them out for a Biostar motherboard with an Ati chipset and PNY DDR3 1333Mhz memroy.
I was quite confident that the motherboard was causing all of my problems, mainly due to the fact that i have another computer in my house that is running a quad-core intel core 2 duo with an intel chipset and I don't have this problem at all on my other system.
After I did the swap I made sure to install all of the latest drivers and after everything was complete I logged on to facebook and i was able to play Fishville with no problems.  BUT, as soon as I loaded Cafe' World my computer instantly shut off.
I have been monitoring my temperature with the pc probe that came with my motherboard and my core temps NEVER go above 48 degrees Celcius.
I know for a fact that this isn't a heating issue.  Something is not right and I wish someone here at adobe could try to point me in the right direction, take the time to look at what all I have tried and give me a creative point of view on this.
The only thing that is not new in this machine is the hard drive.. and I know that isn't the problem because I tried a new hard drive already and it didn't fix it.  So I took it back, as I didn't need it.  There has to be a compatability issue with adobe flash player and some component in my system somewhere.. Its making me crazy.
I have never come accross a problem on a computer that I couldn't fix and this is the first time I have ever had to ask for help and I don't feel like I am getting any help whatsoever from Adobe.
At least Microsoft stayed on the phone with me for 2+ hours and TRIED to help me resolve this issue... to no avail.

  • Downloading From Itunes Stores Won't Resume If Computer Shuts Off!!

Not a happy girl here! I purchased quite a few things from the Itunes Store, and while they were downloading, my computer shut off.
My question is after you've checked the authorization box in good faith for the charge to go through, why doesn't Itunes continue downloading your purchases when my computer comes back on again? In every other type of situation you're asked "were you in the middle of something, and would you like to continue?" Not so in this instant, and that's just not cool.
Furthermore I checked my account and the charges are still pending. I'm wondering how that can be if the download didn't even go through? Am I still going to be charged for all of those purchases, or will the charges drop off? Because I authorized the charge, does it just blindly go through, and not even try to restart the download if the computer shuts off? Please....please tell me this isn't the way it's going to be with Itunes. Thanks...groan

Look under the Store menu in iTunes for the "Check for purchases" command and run that. You may find the tracks there to be downloaded.
If not, contact the iTunes Store using the form at the bottom of the Download FAQ web page and explain the problem to them.
    Good luck.

  • Computer turns off suddenly when i startx

Hello, I try to run xorg with my nvidia card but I have a big problem.
My graphics card is an Nvidia GTX 670MX (in Asus G75VX)
Here's my setup xorg + nvidia driver procedure:
    pacman-S xorg-server xorg-server-utils xorg-xinit
    pacman-S nvidia
    nvidia-xconfig
and then i do startx ..
startx charges to "GLX.." and the computer turns off suddenly!
The logs file exist, but it is empty
What can I do ? Thanks you

You have the exact same laptop I have, and exact same problem. There is already a long standing topic about this.
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167195&p=1
However, to cut a long story short; certain laptops with nvidia GPU can't start x with proprietary nvidia drivers and the 3.10, 3.14 and apparently 3.15 kernels. Booting with the kernel parameter
    rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1
seems to solve the issue for most. This is what works for me and since you have the same laptop it should work for you as well. However on the Nvidia forums, there were some people who required an additional kernel parameter
    CONFIG_HZ=1000
But for you it should work with just the first one I mentioned so I suggest giving it a try.

  • Computer shuts off intermittently

    Computer shuts off intermittently.
    Examples:
    1. you can be playing games pre-installed from factory or
    2. you can be online doing research, etc.
When the pc first started shutting off, you used to be able to press the button on top of the tower and it come back on, but with it still doing it after months of shutting off; you now have to shut off the surge protector and turn it back on, before you can press the button on the pc tower - to turn back on.
Is this a power supply going bad? or something else.
Thank you for any information found and given.

Temporarily remove the surge protector from the system, then try your system.  With that done, use this PSU diagnosis.

  • Computer shuts off when win2k boots up

    antec pp-352x 350w psu
    MSI k7t266 pro2 mobo
    athlon xp 1800 oem
    512 mb pc 2100 ddr
    geforce4 ti4400 128mb
    western digital 60gb 7200
the mobo and cpu is new.  everything else was pulled from my last system.
Everything is connected properly, bios recognizes all components, system boots as normal.  However, when win2k starts up (you see the window screen and the bottom says starting up), the computer powers down.
Also when I try to set the fsb at 133mhz and reboot, the computer shuts off after two seconds.  I have to reset cmos and set fsb at 100mhz for it to even boot.
I've fiddled with the settings and no matter what I do,  the computer shuts off.   Wink2k is a previous install, so maybe it doesn't like the new mobo?   I've tried  two different psu, same results.  I've tested the memory and video card with my work computer, and got no problems.  CPU temperature is only 38 degrees celsius (I'm using a coolmaster heatsink rated up to xp1900)
WHY does my computer turn off at the exact same time every time I power my computer!!?!?!?!?!

the cooler base has a raised bit in it,a step were it goes up
this is designed to give clearance over the top of the cpu socket which sticks up higher than the rest of it
put it the wrong way round and the cooler never sits properley on the cpu core
the fixing clip is in most cases on the step side of the cooler,so if its pointing down into the board you have put it the wrong way round

  • Battery suddenly stops working - computer shuts off despite battery saying its charged.

    I have a HDX16 laptop running windows 7.
The battery is a year and a few months old, and yesterday was giving me at least 50 min of battery life. However today, it wont hold a charge at all and my computer shuts down completely whenever the power supply is interrupted for a millisecond. I ask because this is the second time a battery has suddenly stopped working on me and I am wondering if there is a reason for this.
I tried to check the battery condition by hitting esc + f2 when my computer starts up, but there is no battery check option.
Any explanation or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks for your time.

    Hey Aitchpk,
I'm sorry you're having a battery issue. I would suggest running a battery check using HP Support Assistant if you have it installed on your computer.
You could also try using this standalone Battery Check.
Do you have any issues like this if you operate the computer without the battery and just have the power cord plugged in?

  • Computer shuts off when unplugged, resets internal clock

I have been having an issue lately with my mid 2009 MBP 13in where occasionally if the magsafe adapter is removed from the notebook, it will suddenly shut off.  After about a minute, I am able to start it up again and it will be on battery power until I reset the SMC.  When it does load up OSX, the internal clock is reset to some date in 2001 and I have to manually change it back to the present for everything to play nice again.  It's been pretty annoying at times and I have no idea what would cause the computer to act up so sporadically.  I can't recreate the problem on command, it just happens when I least expect it.  The battery is fine as Coconutbattery shows a life of about 89% still.  Does anyone have any idea what and why this occurs?

Remove the battery and inspect for any abnormalities. Check the contacts on both the battery and the computer. Also check your battery status under Apple Menu> About This Mac. Click on More Info and then the System Profiler will come up. In the left hand column select Power and see what your battery status is there compared to what Coconut battery said.

  • Intel iMac shutting off suddenly, not coming back for hours

    Hello,
Last night my iMac suddenly shut off; I tried for about twenty minutes to turn it back on (I tried the power button, unplugging and replugging, changing outlets...), then gave up. This morning I tried it and it worked just fine, but after several hours it shut off again. That was about three hours ago and it hasn't come back yet. Curiously it shut off right before iSight was going to snap a picture in Photo Booth, and I just can't remember if that's when it happened last night too...
    Any help?

Sounds like an overheating problem. You could try to reset the SMC and see if that helps, if not it probably needs to go to the shop.
Here is a link to how to reset the SMC on a new Mac
