Computer shuts off when I connect my IPOD Shuffle

I just got a new computer and I'm trying to use my IPOD shuffle. I've installed the software and have downloaded updates but when I plug my IPOD into the USB port I get a whole blue page of error messages and the thing shuts down. I am running windows xp pro.

You might have to bring it to apple. Mines was doing the same thing. I brought it to Best Buy (thats where I brought it from) They can fix the problem. I have a windows vista. 30gb ipod

  • Computer turns off when I connect my ipod

When i connect my 4th generation ipod to my windows xp computer, the pc shuts down and when i disconnect the ipod the pc automatically turns back on again. I cant charge the ipod either. Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how i can solve this issue?
Also, for a few days before that problem began, when i connected the ipod to the PC it said the usb device was not recognised.
    Thanks in advance

    hmmmmm.
let's see if there's a blue screen lurking behind the display problem.
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
now plug the ipod in. do you get a blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)

  • Computer shuts down when I connect my Ipod Touch to it.

Each time I go to connect my Ipod touch to my computer, I get the blue screen of death appear on my computer with a huge error message and then it shuts down, 'To protect itself'
I have tried to connect my Ipod Nano and thats fine, works no problems.
I have followed various advice notes from Apple with no joy of sorting the problem out.

I've been having the same issue with my 2nd gen itouch. My computer would crash and show a blue screen after I connected my itouch. My other IPODS would work fine. After unistalling/reinstalling several times, restoring my computer to an earlier date, and updating all usb drivers, I was still having my computer crash with my itouch. If you have a webcam, type in the following in the search support: What to do when Windows XP or Vista computer displays a blue screen error message when syncing the iPhone or iPod touch.
I solved my issue with solution one. My itouch is connecting fine without any crashes, for now. Hope this solves your issue.

  • ITunes shuts down when I connect my iPod 30gb

I desperately need help. Recently my computer crashes and I reformated it. So I had to reinstall iTunes. Ever since then iTunes shuts down when I connect my iPod 30gb. A windows error message appears saying iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I am unable to update my iPod which drives me crazy. Somebody please help!
I browsed through some threads which have similar problems as I do, but I am unable to reply in any. It says: This topic has been archived - replies are not allowed.
There's this thread here about the problem I am facing but I doesn't seem to understand the solution to it.

    Can somebody please help me?

let's get a crash log from itunes, and send it to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.

When i connect my ipod shuffle to itunes i get an error message the ipod cannot be synced, the required disk cannot be found  anyone have this happen? How do i get past it?

I seem to recall that this may be cause by overloading the USB bus (lack of power to go around).  Shut down your computer.  Reset the iPod shuffle using this procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Disconnect ALL peripheral USB devices, including keyboard and mouse.  Power up the computer.  If you need your mouse, connect it and launch iTunes.  Connect the iPod shuffle to a direct USB port and try the sync again.  See if there is any difference.

  • Itunes keeps shutting down when I connect my IPod Classic

Itunes shuts down whenever I connect my IPOD classic  and sync attempts to start.  I have had this IPod for several years and I have had Windows 7 for over 6 months.  I am trying to update versions, but I get an error message with that also.I have also seen posts on Microsoft and they aren't helpful.....I have seen many posts on Itunes also regarding same issue. What is up when the company will not fix their problems with the products?

I downloaded the 64bit system....did it like 3 times.   Finally, I found some other helpful hints.  I tried loading ITUNES in safe mode, still couldn't get it to not shutdown once I connected the IPod, I then logged into one of my other user accounts, then I was able to restore the settings, however, it removed all my songs and syned with the Itunes on that user acct (which was my nano IPod).  That was ok, because then I was able to go back to my regular account and sync and updated all my songs....just had to have my kids authorize me again on Itunes.  Think it's a racket to keep upgrading, changing things and not supporting the stuff that still works.....my classic works just fine nd holds 5,000 songs...I only have about 1500; so I have long way to go.  When my display cracked and the LCD was all messed up. I sent it to IFIXIPODS fast.com and they replaced it, quick and cheap--hats off to them!

  • Computer shuts off when win2k boots up

    antec pp-352x 350w psu
    MSI k7t266 pro2 mobo
    athlon xp 1800 oem
    512 mb pc 2100 ddr
    geforce4 ti4400 128mb
    western digital 60gb 7200
the mobo and cpu is new.  everything else was pulled from my last system.
Everything is connected properly, bios recognizes all components, system boots as normal.  However, when win2k starts up (you see the window screen and the bottom says starting up), the computer powers down.
Also when I try to set the fsb at 133mhz and reboot, the computer shuts off after two seconds.  I have to reset cmos and set fsb at 100mhz for it to even boot.
I've fiddled with the settings and no matter what I do,  the computer shuts off.   Wink2k is a previous install, so maybe it doesn't like the new mobo?   I've tried  two different psu, same results.  I've tested the memory and video card with my work computer, and got no problems.  CPU temperature is only 38 degrees celsius (I'm using a coolmaster heatsink rated up to xp1900)
WHY does my computer turn off at the exact same time every time I power my computer!!?!?!?!?!

the cooler base has a raised bit in it,a step were it goes up
this is designed to give clearance over the top of the cpu socket which sticks up higher than the rest of it
put it the wrong way round and the cooler never sits properley on the cpu core
the fixing clip is in most cases on the step side of the cooler,so if its pointing down into the board you have put it the wrong way round

  • Why does my computer shut off when optimizing pix??

Just recently, when i tried to put photos and movies on my 30G iPod, the screen on my laptop shuts off. The computer does not shut down completely, whats going on? it also shuts off when i try to burn a cd now, HELP!

Your battery gauge needs to be recalibrated. The gauge "thinks" you have 20%, but the battery doesn't agree. You need to run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge for 4 hours with the wall adapter. You may need to do this more than once if it is way off calibration.

  • Itunes shuts down when I connect my ipod video

I have a ipod video 60gb (the one right before they released the 80gb). I recently had to reinstall OS 10.4 due to freezing issues. Well, it still freezes, and it froze during the re-sync of the ipod and I had to reboot the ipod cause I had to reboot the computer. Now whenever I connect the ipod, it is recognized by the CPU, but whenever Itunes starts up with the ipod connected, it just shuts right down.

  • Computer shuts down when Droid connected

s5710f Simline pc  running windows 7
Everytime I try to connect my new Verizon Droid Incredible 2, the computer shuts down within a few seconds.  HP tech support said I need to get Droid software to load onto the computer, but no one at Verizon has ever heard of this happening.

I'm not sure what is happening, but you could try stopping and restarting the following services and see if that helps at all.
    Apple Mobile Device
    IPod Service
To access services, right click on My Computer and select "Manage". When the Computer Management window opens, doublel click on Services and Applications and then double click on services.
    Good Luck...
Just an additional thought. Are you connecting through a USB hub or directly to the PC. If you are using a hub, try connecting directly to the PC. And also, if you are directly connected to the PC, try another USB port if you have one available.

  • Computer shuts off when unplugged, resets internal clock

I have been having an issue lately with my mid 2009 MBP 13in where occasionally if the magsafe adapter is removed from the notebook, it will suddenly shut off.  After about a minute, I am able to start it up again and it will be on battery power until I reset the SMC.  When it does load up OSX, the internal clock is reset to some date in 2001 and I have to manually change it back to the present for everything to play nice again.  It's been pretty annoying at times and I have no idea what would cause the computer to act up so sporadically.  I can't recreate the problem on command, it just happens when I least expect it.  The battery is fine as Coconutbattery shows a life of about 89% still.  Does anyone have any idea what and why this occurs?

Remove the battery and inspect for any abnormalities. Check the contacts on both the battery and the computer. Also check your battery status under Apple Menu> About This Mac. Click on More Info and then the System Profiler will come up. In the left hand column select Power and see what your battery status is there compared to what Coconut battery said.

  • Speaker doesn't shut off when earphones connected

I recently purchased a new 2nd generation ipod Touch however when I connect the earphones the speaker doesn't turn off. I need to disconnect and reconnect the earphones four or five times before the speaker will turn off. The earphones are playing the music when they are plugged in but so is the speaker. It's extremely annoying. This is my first ipod so have I set something incorrectly or is there a problem with my new ipod, any ideas?

    Hi,
I don't have a 2nd gen myself but would suggest the following course of action -
    1. Ensure that you are pushing the earphone plug *all the way in*, I know it sounds daft but this does happen occasionally. Push firmly, you won't break anything.
    2. Check Settings > General > Sounds and check that the appropriate settings are enabled. (not sure if these differ from 1st gen but have to ask).
    3. Try a reset, press and hold both buttons, ignore the "Slide to turn off" instruction and let go only when the Apple logo appears, the Touch will restart.
    4. If the above fail, take/send it back
    Good luck,
    Dud.
