Computer shuts off when using Firefox.

When using Firefox on my XP machine, the computer shuts down while on the Internet at random. I removed FF and reinstalled it, and it still shuts my computer down while on the net. I swap over to IE and there is no problems so it's in the Firefox program. Did not do this until a few weeks ago. HELP

I had this same problem, searched the net, got frustrated, but finally worked it out. If I used Mozilla my computer running Xp would shut off, if I used IE I could surf the web. However flash was not working on Youtube. In the end the problem was simply that my version of Adobe Flash was not the current one, this was causing a software conflict, which in turn was shutting down my computer while running firefox. I simply went to the Adobe site, and updated to the latest Flash, and also downloaded a debugger program for IE. Since then everything is ok, Mozilla no longer turns off my computer, and IE8 works fine with Youtube.
Hope this helps, as it sure frustrated me at the time.

the mobo and cpu is new.  everything else was pulled from my last system.
Everything is connected properly, bios recognizes all components, system boots as normal.  However, when win2k starts up (you see the window screen and the bottom says starting up), the computer powers down.
Also when I try to set the fsb at 133mhz and reboot, the computer shuts off after two seconds.  I have to reset cmos and set fsb at 100mhz for it to even boot.
I've fiddled with the settings and no matter what I do,  the computer shuts off.   Wink2k is a previous install, so maybe it doesn't like the new mobo?   I've tried  two different psu, same results.  I've tested the memory and video card with my work computer, and got no problems.  CPU temperature is only 38 degrees celsius (I'm using a coolmaster heatsink rated up to xp1900)
WHY does my computer turn off at the exact same time every time I power my computer!!?!?!?!?!

the cooler base has a raised bit in it,a step were it goes up
this is designed to give clearance over the top of the cpu socket which sticks up higher than the rest of it
put it the wrong way round and the cooler never sits properley on the cpu core
the fixing clip is in most cases on the step side of the cooler,so if its pointing down into the board you have put it the wrong way round

  • My computer locks up when using Firefox

When using Firefox my computer periodically locks up. My screen goes blank and everything is unresponsive. I have to to a hard reboot to get my computer back up. I'm using a 64 bit version of Windows 7 and I have the latest version of Firefox installed. I typically don't use any of the plug-ins.

Ever since I downloaded v12, my computer has been locking up at least twice a DAY. I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything, including Firefox itself, as well as Adobe, and all the plug-ins associated with the application. I've run Spybot, C-Cleaner, and my anti-virus to confirm that there's nothing else wrong with the computer outside Firefox. If the computer is rebooted and Firefox is not opened, the system is fine. But once Firefox has been opened - even if it survives the session and I close Firefox - the computer is about 75% likely to lock up, requiring a hard reboot. I'm running Vista Home edition (32 bit). If anyone has a clue what might help stop this - because I'm quite sure that it's not healthy for my computer to be hard rebooted twice (or more) a day - I'd love to hear it! It's getting waaaay more than annoying, enough so that I'm ready to move to another browser to stop the problem.

  • Why does my computer shut off when optimizing pix??

Just recently, when i tried to put photos and movies on my 30G iPod, the screen on my laptop shuts off. The computer does not shut down completely, whats going on? it also shuts off when i try to burn a cd now, HELP!

Your battery gauge needs to be recalibrated. The gauge "thinks" you have 20%, but the battery doesn't agree. You need to run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge for 4 hours with the wall adapter. You may need to do this more than once if it is way off calibration.

  • Computer shutting down when using iTunes

Everytime I try to download/update something via iTunes, my computer completely shuts off. It has never done this before and only happens when using iTunes.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

Not to suggest the obvious, but have you updated and run your Malware/spyware software lately? If you don't have one, ewido.com has a free trial, and it's fantastic.
This is the easiest thing to try, so if this doesn't work, post back and we'll try to make some other suggestions...
    Good luck!

  • IPod Touch 8Gb 1st Gen Crashes and shuts off when using apps

When using Safari to browse the web, or using any application other than the music player, my iPod touch crashes and shuts off, often with a loud POP if I have my earbuds in my ears. When attempting to turn it back on, I get the standard Apple bootup logo, but then it crashes again a few seconds later. Sometimes, my ipod displays the battery meter after turning it back on, which indicates that the battery is nearly drained, even if the battery was completely full only minutes later. When using the music player or listening to an audiobook, it seems that my iPod can go all night long without incident, as I have fallen asleep with an audiobook playing, and have woken up the next morning to find it still playing.
I have performed a hard reset by holding both the power and the home button for 20 seconds or so, and have deleted and reloaded everything on my iPod twice, but I am still having problems. Any advice?

Mine does the exact same thing, it will not even turn on without being plugged into the computer (not even a charger). I usually have to restore it by manually sending it into restore mode.

  • Computer shuts off when unplugged, resets internal clock

I have been having an issue lately with my mid 2009 MBP 13in where occasionally if the magsafe adapter is removed from the notebook, it will suddenly shut off.  After about a minute, I am able to start it up again and it will be on battery power until I reset the SMC.  When it does load up OSX, the internal clock is reset to some date in 2001 and I have to manually change it back to the present for everything to play nice again.  It's been pretty annoying at times and I have no idea what would cause the computer to act up so sporadically.  I can't recreate the problem on command, it just happens when I least expect it.  The battery is fine as Coconutbattery shows a life of about 89% still.  Does anyone have any idea what and why this occurs?

Remove the battery and inspect for any abnormalities. Check the contacts on both the battery and the computer. Also check your battery status under Apple Menu> About This Mac. Click on More Info and then the System Profiler will come up. In the left hand column select Power and see what your battery status is there compared to what Coconut battery said.

  • Computer shuts down when using Aperture

Hi, does anyone knows what cause Mac to shut down? It first happened when I was using 1.5, stopped behaving this way for a while but now its back shutting my Mac down again. Tonight, it shut down when I was making batch adjustments to several images. When I turned my Mac back on and went back to the same Aperture project, it shut down again. I did this a few times but always the same result.
What is causing Aperture to shut down my computer? Could it be due to lack of memory or something more sinister?? Please help folks.
    Mike

RAM anomalies immediately came to my mind too.
Note that 3 GB is a very limiting amount of RAM for a Mac Pro anyway. RAM is inexpensive now. I suggest that you add 4x2GB matched RAM; one good source is OWC: http://otherworldcomputing.com/. The new RAM should be installed on the top riser, old unmatched RAM removed or installed on the bottom riser.
Make sure that Aperture and the OS are fully version-current. Immediately prior to and immediately after every installation of any kind (essentially anything that asks for sysadmin password) I recommend repairing Permissions. Note that repairing Permissions at other times does not have the same effect as immediately prior to and immediately after installations; i.e. repairing Permissions is not some kind of magic fix to use after problems present.
On the Photoshop forums for years there have been many instances of some folks getting poor or unstable performance out of setups that other folks get good performance out of. We see the same thing here on the Aperture forums. The suggested protocol of repairing Permissions is one of the routines that many of us with long term good Adobe performance have tended to follow.
There are many tens of thousands of files with Permissions settings. IMO maintaining them in a consistent state immediately before and after each installation of any kind is a potentially useful protocol with no down side risk.
    Good Luck!

  • MBP shuts off when using Skype

I recently downloaded skype to stay in touch with family who don't have a .mac. However, now if I'm not plug into an outlet and I use Skype, the MBP will randomly and instantly shut off. My battery displays full or near full life and I don't have this problem if I stay plugged in. I've updated all software and this hasn't resolved the problem and I don't have this problem when not using skype. Please Help

I checked the system profiler and the full charge capacity is 2657 and the cycle count is 107. This only confirmed my earlier diagnosis. The battery is failing. It is now happening when Skype is not on. I think it was just a coincidence that the problem appeared after installing Skype. I've also now noticed a bulge around the battery area and intermittent trouble with the track pad and button. I contacted Apple about the battery and was told I'd have to buy a new one. I'm only out of warranty by a few months and my battery was not part of the recall. Thanks for the help.

  • Computer shuts off when watching YouTube on Safari

My computer has simply shut itself off several times now, and each time it happened, it was when I was watching YouTube videos with Safari version 5.06.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

  • IChat keeps shutting off when using a different login...

I recently set up my sister's new iMac 20" Intel. Her login is the administrator. I also made a login for other members of the family. iChat works using her login but when I login using another login on the list (i.e. her daughter's login) I try to turn on iChat but then it crashes and the software shuts down. Doesn't anyone know whats going wrong with this?

    HI Xterratop,
Did you manage to set iChat up in the duaghter's account ?
Were you using your screen name ?
Did you type in your Real Name in the set up screens ?
It may be there is a problem with the Name you entered in the set up screens and the one in the Address Book at the Me card for that Mac account.
Go to the /Users/(That Mac account)/Library/Preferences and delete all the apple.com.ichat.xxx.plist items you can find and force it to go through the set up screens again.
