Computer sound for multimedia

Okay folks, here is yet another question about the (in)famous Gateway LX6810.
When I bought this thing, I did a lot of research. That was 6 months ago. Back then, a lot of good consumer reviews were to be had. Things have obviously changed. In my seemingly never ending frustrations with Gateway tech support, I tried to get a straight answer about the included 7.1 sound system capabilities. The tech told me about a compatible 5.1 sound system (after I spent 15 minutes explaining to him what a 7.1 sound system was), and when I told him I was looking for a 7.1, he told me it wasn't supported. I asked WTH they made the computer with 7.1 capability when it wasn't supported, and he said he didn't know. Par for the course.
I checked the BB site for a 7.1 system, but the only one I could find did not seem appropriate. Is there a compatible system available, and will BB be carrying one in the foreseeable future? Also, do I need more than speakers themselves, i.e. amp/recvr.? Can this thing be incorporated into a multimedia center?
As always, all replies are appreciated.
There is no sound, no cry, no voice in all the universe that can be heard until someone listens...
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I do not believe Best Buy will start carrying a 7.1 system because the demand is not there for this item. When you buy a 7.1 system, all of the speakers will connect to the subwoofer which acts as an amp. Each "group" of speakers will then connect to the computer from the subwoofer. Front (Left and Right), Center, Side-Surround (Left and Right) and Rear Surround (Left and Right).

  • Windows driver for "Multimedia Controller" and sound problem

    Hi
I installed Windows 8.1 using Bootcamp on my Macbook Air (Early 2014, Intel i5).
Then I downloaded Bootcamp drivers from http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1720 and installed couple of them (wifi, intel chipset).
When I check the Device Managmer I still get "Multimedia Controller" in "Other devices" without drivers.
Beside that I think the sound is not working. I installed the Realtek sound driver. When I play sound file the volume bar in taskbar mixer is blinking but no sound is coming out : ).
    Please help.

for multimedia controller if its onboard sound card use this drivers:
    http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/nForce/4.62/4.62_nforce_audio_winxp2k_international_whql.exe
    but based on both:
    multimedia controller
    multimedia video controller
think its external PCI device like TV tuner.
get this one to ID the device: http://www.zhangduo.com/UnknownDeviceIdentifier.exe

  • Which input for recording computer sounds

I have recorded a number of tracks via my Soundblaster Line in input to AA. I have a software drum module which I want to record via AA, but I cant seem to get AA to register this input. It's not inputting via any line/mic/etc input, as it is on the computer already. Am I selecting the wrong input? I have tried a few of them on the list and none seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

If I open the Creative Audio Console, it has an option to record. You can select input for the recorder, and if I select "what u hear" then the equaliser bars respond to the drum software. However, in AA I cannot find an option to record "what u hear" or any equivalent - all the inputs seem to be for external sources (line in, digital in) and a few I don't understand (mix FL, mix RL) - if I choose these two latter ones, I get a sudden crescendo of feedback which causes the input level monitors to go into the red and cut out.
Update: I went into AA audio hardware setup and selected "Audition 3.0 windows sound" as the audio driver. The only output available is "SPDIF out". Now, I am able to select "what u hear" as a recording input!! HOWEVER, when I click "arm for record", I get the error message:
    Adobe Default Windows Sound Driver
Device: SPFID Out (Creative SB X-Fi)
    Errorcode: FFA-8-000D [800705aa]
Info: Playback failed. The audio system does not seem to respond. Maybe card does not support full duplex mode.
I am now able to record computer sounds, though I cannot hear the recording nor the playback when I am finished. If I set the device back to "Creative ASIO" then I am able to hear what I recorded.
My soundcard is a Creative 7.1 X-FI Elite Pro, which supports full duplex.
Would really appreciate any help !

  • When I connect my iPad2 to my tv using the AV adapter I can hear sound for everything else except for my movies. I can hear tv shows, music, videos off YouTube, etc. I just can't hear the movies. Any ideas of what may be wrong?

When I connect my iPad2 to my tv using the AV adapter I can hear sound for everything else except movies. I can hear tv episodes, music, YouTube videos, etc. anyone have an idea of how to fix this issue? Thank you for your help in advance.

Just connect the new iPod to your computer and setup the iPod via iTunes (instead of via wifi).

  • I no longer have sound for either my audio books or my music on itunes.  I've tried everything--restarting, updating, re-installing audible app, and restoring the iphone to its factory settings--nothing helps.  How do I get the sound back?

How do I get the sound back on my iPhone 4?  I've tried all the fixes such as restarting iPhone, reinstalling the audible app, and finally yesterday, I restored the phone to its factory settings.  I still get no sound from music on iTunes or from my audible books.  The phone still rings (I have sound for that) and the voice control speaks to me, and when I'm typing, the automatic text voice speaks so I can hear it but nothing else works.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • IMac looses sound for 1-2 seconds when soundcard is idle for a minute

I've had this problem coming and going.
If I don't touch the computer for a minute or two, the sound automaticaly mutes or turns off or stops working or something. Meaning I get no notification sounds, no email sounds, no iMessage sounds, no system sounds in general.
Now this is very obvious when I pause a video on VLC. I press play, the video starts and the sound starts after 1-2 seconds.
Same if I press the volume up on the keyboard. Sound starts working again after 1-2 seconds.
Now if I have itunes playing music the sound never mutes. Same if I look at a video, press pause and play instantly. Leave it pause for a minute or two though and there goes the sound.
It is happening as I write. I have no music or video playing atm, so the soundcard is not being used and I have no system sounds at all. I send an email to me with my phone, computer shows the new email notification but no sound. I press volume up/down, play some whatever audio and the sound gets kickstarted again after 1-2 seconds.
I have tried plugging in and out everything, resseting the PRAM and SMC, using headphones, the internal speakers, external speakers, terminate all background apps that are not needed by the system. Tried playing with the sound settings, nothing.
I restart the computer, sound works prefrectly. I start using the mac to send an email, or browse the web, and this system "mute" starts happening.
    Help?

Hi, have you found something work for you ?
Happens to me as well but not started in mavericks all started with Mountain Lion , a few weeks before he left mavericks , I thought the problme would be solved by updating , but he did not, it's very frustrating strange thing is that in my case not only iTunes is , if any player, have proven Vox and another which I forget the name .
I also feel the same when you play a song in quick look ( Finder) .
I am desperate this problem is with me for the last month and a half went to a apple store and tell me that my machine has nothing that can not help me, and tried everything , reset my machine with a clean install , restart PRAM , repair permissions hise disk hardware test , and nothing has changed.
When iTunes pause my machine freezes a moment and returns to normal when continuous playback , stops about 1s though sometimes hard to 5s .
We appreciate if you find solution , because I am going crazy . Since neither in apple have been able to help me .
My machine is a Macbook Pro late 2012. Mavericks , iTunes 11.1.3 did not correct my mistakes. Do not know what else to try .

  • ITunes 10.1.0.56 Distorts Computer Sounds When I Connect My iPhone 4

I have an ASUS Notebook. Attached to a USB port is an M-Audio Fast Track Pro, which I use as an external Sound Card, and which is connected to external speakers.
When I hook up my iPhone 4 to iTunes, all sound is distorted out of my speakers, and I have to re-start my computer again for the sound to be right. Does anyone else have this problem? I tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes, but that didn't work. Thanks.

  • Sound for when a USB key inserted

For a decade or more I have used the wonderful launcher and program organizer DragThing by James Thomson - excellent.  It also gives me sounds for things like when I plug-in a USB key or insert a CD or DVD-- and lots more.
But I'm now configuring a computer for my daughter and I am trying to keep things real simple as she is a PC user and I don't want to throw too much at her that she won't use.  So the Dock will be the first "launcher" along with Launch Pad -- BUT
BUT-- how to get the sounds for special actions like inserting a disc or USB key if I don't use DragThing?  Are there other small programs out there that can add these features.  YES I've tried to google this but have not found the exact thing for which I am seeking--
Thanks for any comments / suggestions --

It is possible. It certainly has to spend time mounting the USB key info to the system while it boots up since it attempts to mount every file system connected to it when it starts up. Try booting without it to see if it makes a difference.

  • Latest update no sound for text, email, plugging in ipad

since the latest update a couple of days ago my iPad sounds will not work. I mean the ones for incoming text messages, emails, plugging the iPad in- ALL STANDARD SOUNDS OFFERED BY APPLE NOT downloaded sounds!  This is very frustrating.  I have synced my iPad on my computer, i have shut down the iPad numerous times, if anyone else is having this problem please let me know. If it's an Apple bug please fix it.
    thank you

I think that you have system sounds muted.
If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7 or iOS 8. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • My computer sound is not working even the sound driver is installed

    HI,
i'm using windows 7, my computer sound was working perfectly, recently i tried to update my sound driver using DRIVER BOOSTER, after the update there was no sound when i tried to play music an ERROR appears, then i uninstalled it, still not working, i went
to DEVICE MANAGER, to check my SOUND DRIVER it says  '' This device is working properly.'' though i get no sound.
NB : my sound driver is 'Realtek high definition audio'.
    help me please.

First you need to go find the correct driver for you computer. If it is a dell, or similar model go to the manufacturers website. If not then go to Realtek to download the proper driver by model number.
Download the correct driver for your model soundcard.
You need to uninstall your current sound card driver. restart your computer
Upon restarting you can then install the proper driver by running the program you downloaded.
P.S. Only get your drivers from the manufacturers, third party drivers, like Drivers Dot Com and many others are just BAD to put it nicely. They rarely have the correct ones and more often then not add extra programs to the driver packages.

  • Sound for games doesn't work on iPad 2

Sound works on iPad 2 for everything except games. Is there some special way to get sound for games to work?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Except for telephone ringtone, all alerts sound for only a few seconds following latest os update

After updating my Z10 to the latest operating system this week, I found that alerts for my BBM, Wotsapp, Sms and email only sound for about 8-10 seconds.  My ringtone for calls is played in full though.
All of the alerts used the correct tones (.mp3 tracks); nevertheless, I reset them by navigating each app to the correct alert.  But nothing changed.
Is there a way to resolve this please?  I need more time to hear an alert when not in a quiet environment.
Has anyone else had the same problem?
    Many thanks.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.
