Computer-specific loss of access to iTunes Store

For the past week or so any attempt to access the iTunes store from my G4 desktop Mac brings up the message
"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The host is down. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
My connection is OK and all other Internet services are functioning properly. I have no trouble connecting to the Store via the same ISP from my PowerBook G4. Trashing the preferences and/or downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes on the desktop G4 did not help. I checked the keychain for problems as suggested on the Apple iTunes trouble-shooting site but all was well there. I am not using a proxy connection.
Some time before I noticed this problem I had a system malfunction which necessitated erasing the HD on the desktop G4 and reinstalling all software via an external bootable backup using Synchronize! Pro X. I am wondering if this could have any influence on my iTunes issue?

Problem solved - there was a blocking rule in Little Snitch. I must have hit the 'Deny access' button by mistake.

  • When I try to access the itunes store I get an error message that my computer is not connected to the internet, even though it is. How do I fix this? Thanks.

For some reason when I open iTunes, and try to access the itunes store, help, my account, or anything else I get a message saying that I'm not connected to the internet, even when I know that I am. What's wrong?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • IPhone no longer syncs with computer--"Cannot access the iTunes store"

My iPhone 2G has decided to no longer sync with my iTunes. I do not have internet on my computer (I'm doing this on a friend's), so when I connect my iPhone to my computer, an error message pops up that says "Cannot access the iTunes store". Since my iPhone is normally synced manually, I can still drag new files onto it; however, any movies/podcasts on the iPhone keep reappearing even after I've deleted them (from the iPhone itself). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Delete then re-install iTunes & Delete the following files:
The iTunes application (located in /Applications)
    com.apple.iTunes.plist (from ~/Library/Preferences)
    iTunes.pkg (from /Library/Receipts)
    iTunesX.pkg (from /Library/Receipts)
then re-download the latest version of iTunes.

  • TS1368 I downloaded the latest ITunes update, 10.6 I think. I can still sync my Ipod, but I can no longer access the Itunes Store.  No error message, it just keeps "accessing" but nothing shows up.  I've restarted my computer twice.

Ok... I just tried connecting my iPod directly to a USB port on the computer rather than via the USB hub I was using and everything is fine. Odd, but I'm happy now.
    Thanks,

iTunes is a program on your computer, it is not "the Internet".  The fact that the program runs has no bearing on Internet connectivity.
Maybe if a little more information was supplied, like version of the Operating system on the computer and version of iTunes, then a little more assistance could be provided.

  • I can't access the itunes store on my computer anymore.

I can't access the itunes store on my computer anymore.

Has this been resolved?  I'm having the same issue now....
Everytime I login to iTunes from my computer I'm getting a "can't connect to iTunes" error message.  It goes halfway through accessing iTunes, then I get that "iTunes quit unexpectedly" script where a log of my error messages shows up that will be sent to Apple.
Anyone having this issue?  I can't even upload any apps from my computer.  But no problem accessing through my iPhone 4S or iPad.
    Any suggestions anyone??
    Thanks!

I can download my stuff on my iPad or my iPod, but I do prefer using iTunes on my computer. I do have a Windows 7 machine, but it's my work computer and I'd rather not put iTunes on it. Any ideas? Anybody else having this issue? I use Norton 360 and have turned the firewal completely off, but still no joy.

  • I'm unable to access the Itunes Store from my Windows 8?

I recently recieved a new laptop, operating on Windows 8.  {Note: This is my first Windows computer, I transferred over from Mac}.  I decided to open up a new Apple ID to get away from my parent's account, so that was all set up pretty easily.
Now, however, i find that I can't access the Itunes store from the Itunes application.
    A message, I'm unable to find it now, it no longer appears, instead I get a blank screen instead of the store, read something similar to "not being able to open itunes store, please check your cookies and account details. {sorry if that's too vague, but it definitly had to do with my cookie settings making it unable to open.}
I'm at a loss at what to do next.  My account is perfectly set up, but where and how to adjust the cookies so that the itunes store can open?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -

  • ITunes Upgrade results in no access to ITunes Store

I've recently downloaded the latest version of Itunes (9.2.1.5) as since doing so I cannot access the ITunes Store. Prior to downloading this laterst version, I had no trouble with access. I've tried deleting the download and re-installing it, and I've tried just reinstalling it to "repair" any damaged or fragmented files. Nothing helps. I've tried rebooting, I've tried closing Itunes and re-opening, and I've tried clicking on Podcasts and then on Itunes Store. Again, nothing helps. The error I get is:
"ITunes could not connect to the Itunes Store. Network Connection timed out."
I ran the diagnostic and my connection to the internet was fine, the only red line failure I got was:
"Secure link to Itunes Store failed."
Everything else was fine. Again, I've never had this problem on this machine with any previous downloads.
I performed the download Saturday evening, so I thought that maybe Itunes Store was off line for maintenance or some other reason. But, at mid-day on Sunday, I'm still having the same issue, so I doubt it is the store. I've tried everything I can find on-line, and the bottom line is, nothing lets me have access to the Store.
In downloading the newer version of Itunes, I wasn't able to access it by opening the Itunes application. When I opened Itunes, I would get the dialogue box asking if I wanted to download the latest version of Itunes. When I clicked on the response to download the latest version, the dialogue box disappeared, but nothing was downloaded. So, I went to the Itunes webpage and downloaded from there.
I was doing other things on the computer while Itunes downloaded the new version, and it could have sat waiting for a response for some time. But, I had an active connection to the internet the whole time, and have not been without access since.
Basically, I'd like to know how to regain access to the Itunes Store with this latest version of Itunes. As a fallback, I'd like to revert back to my latest version that worked fine.
I'd be grateful for any help you can offer.
These are my system specs and the results of the last diagnostic.

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? There have been reports that some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from connecting. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).
Check the settings for your utility. If iTunes is still listed, remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes. Consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure. If you have Norton, you can find instructions for that utility on Symantec's web page for iTunes. You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • After upgrading to Windows 8.1 I can't access the iTunes Store

After purchasing a new HP computer I was prompted to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and my troubles began.  I tried to sync my iPad with 2,566 songs loaded and iTunes 11.1.3 only recognized 590 songs.  Every time I try to access the iTunes Store it fails to load and iTunes crashes.  Anybody know what's up?

I think the bigger issue here might be trying to run win8.1 on a system that never had that OS qualified.  I suspect there's a high probability there are some BIOS issues being encountered since the last BIOS for E30 was released well before win8.1 ever came out.
Since you state win7 doesn't seem to have any issues, I doubt there's a HW issue going on.  The next likely culprit would probably be BIOS.  Unfortunately there's not much chance of getting win8.1 BIOS issues addressed at this point since that product has been EOL for quite some time.

there maybe a far simpler way to enjoy iTunes on my iPad and Apple Tv.   I also have the Sony blurry Google Tv.  I will upgrade my PC with Windows Z8 and a screaming ran cache, ram disk on a 79 mother board and then pay 5 bucks a month for OnLive Plus that I hpe to show wirelesslypy on the big scree 50 inch Panasonic.   I have waited for years to upgrade as I wanted to help my kids in college.  They are finished and so I have money fr my self.CELEBRATE
