Computer stalls on restart after ONYX

My friend has a 24" 2.4g iMac running 10.5.8
I recommend Onyx to him and he downloaded, installed and says he ran maintenance. Then went to restart. computer chimes, apple logo, exactly 3 revolutions of the gear and then freezes.
Apparently there is a disk in the drive and we've been unable to eject. When holding down mouse button, eject or option, computer shows only a blank white screen on startup.
Need some help with ejecting disk to try and boot off DVD and possible solution as to why it won't reboot after running ONYX

Tried reset of PRAM...called Apple support and spent 30 mins online with young (very) man who gave up after trying several trouble shooting steps....
Starting up with command, option, p, r results in just a blank illuminated screen...pressing any key or clicking mouse on start up results in same screen....pressing nothing results in the logo gear scenario....

  • Computer won't restart after installing ITunes

    Hello!
I really need some help with getting my itunes to work. I go to itunes.com and download the newest version, which I believe is 10.1. I go through the entire install and everything works fine and it seems like there are no issues. Then, when i'm done using the computer, I shut it down. The next time I go to start up my computer it gets stuck on the "please wait" part of the welcome menu and just stays like that forever. So what I have to do it restart my computer and get into the Repair your computer section after pressing F8 and I do a system restore which wipes my computer clean for the entire day.. Anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried downloading itunes at least 8 times and it always does the same thing!

So not a issue with the Windows installation. That suggests a conflict between iTunes and another program or driver that is ramifying through to the startup trouble.
Do you have a version of iTunes of any sort on the PC? If so, in that version, in iTunes go "Help > Run Diagnostics. Leave all four boxes checked, and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen, click the "Copy to clipboard" button and paste the results into a reply here.

  • Bootcamp Assistant Stalls on restart after partitioning

Ok so i had some problems with my windows install and i wanted to update to Mountain Lion. I wiped my entire hard drive, deleted all the partitions, and started fresh with one partition. I got Mountain Lion installed perfectly. Heres where the problem starts. I started with editing the plist to make bootcamp allow USB install. (im running  an Imac 2007). The Superdrive only works when it wants to and its easier just to not use it at all. I then opened bootcamp assistant and checked all three boxes (created usb disk, download support drivers, and install windows 7). I used my handy .iso of my win7 x64 disk and bootcamp created my usb disk, downloaded the support drivers then asked me how big to make my partition. i choose the size and clicked continue. Bootcamp partitioned my drive just fine and then restarted. And then my computer sticks at the apple logo (with no spinning wheel). i let it sit over night and no difference. so i just powered off and when i powered on i get the *no boot disk -- insert bootable disk and press any key*. The USB flash drive is in the computer but its not showing up after a restart and holding alt. i can boot into OS X just fine but not get windows to install. The bootcamp partition shows up on my OSX desktop with no files. Also the USB disk shows up named WININSTALL with the install files and support drivers on it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is your external DVD drive an Apple drive, or a third party drive?  I Not all third party drives provide full boot support in their hardware, so that could be the cause of your problem.  Since you have a MacBook Air, it should support booting from a USB stick with your Windows installer on it.  You might try that.

  • Computer will not restart after using it as a firewire disk

I was trying to transfer my photos and music from my Powerbook G4 to my Mac Mini so set up the laptop as a target firwire drive. The transfer work but when I went to re-boot my laptop it just sticks a few seconds afetr I turn it on with the spining cirical under the apple logo.
Any idea why this is the case and how I can fix it?

    Hi Findlay ,
Try starting up in "Safe Mode". If that does not work boot from your OS 10.4 Install disk and run repair disk:
    Repair Disk:
    Steps for using Disk Utility
    1. Insert your Mac OS X CD-ROM disc or Restore DVD disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key until you see the spinning gear..
    2. Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
    6. Click Repair.
If you repair errors run it until no errors found.

Have you tried booting into the Recovery HD and running Disk Utility to see if anything needs fixing on the HD. Restart holding down Command+r and once it hopefully boots select Disk Utility>Repair Disk. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Try restarting as normal from the Apple menu once done.
Do you have backup to restore from if it proves to be the Mac has a hardware fault?

  • Computer keeps restarting after installing windows 8

Can you help my computer keeps restarting after I installed Windows 8?  I have the minidump file zipped

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up
to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.
If you are overclocking stop.  (chances are if you dont know if you are, you are not)a
To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.
    The procedure:
    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button. (if available on  your site, MS doesnt have this)
*Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or"Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
Link for how to  upload below.
    http://www.wikihow.com/Use-SkyDrive
    To ensure minidumps are enabled:
    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.
Please also run MSinfo32 and upload the output as well.
To run MSinfo32 please go to start>run>MSinfo32
Go to "file" "save" and upload the saved file with the DMPS

  • On Leopard after running software update computer freezes during restart

    Hi All,
I hope I am posting this in the right place. I have installed Leopard (brand new installation with formating the HD before install). It went lovely. Migrate all of my accounts and settings form my other HD. BTW that other HD was upgraded to Leopard they the upgrade feature of Leopard instal and had the same problem that I'm going to describe here. After installation was complete, I worked on my computer just fine for a few hours, restarted it a few time an it worked great. I've installed software updates (iTunes 7.5 QT7.3 etc...) at this point when my system requested a restart and I click "restart" button, the computer tried to restart and froze at the point when the screen went black but the tower never restarted. In fact after about a minute of system being frozen, all of the fans in the tower went blowing full force.
Now, here is the history. I've done the Leopard upgrade on my system HD a week before this happened and after downloading this software update had the same problem. Can not restart at all. The computer works fine for about 1 day and after that the system starts to slow down a lot.
I called Apple, they didn't know what that was. Went to Apple store, they check the hardware and... It's good. Was advised to reinstall the Leopard on "clean" HD with brand new installation rather then update. I did all this yesterday on my 2nd HD and as I've said above, it worked just fine until I've installed this update.
So, my question to you all. Did anyone else experienced this type of problem?
I'm still on hold wanting for Apple tech support to try and resolve this with them. I was just hoping that some of you may know this and may have a fix/advise for me.
Thank you in advance for your help

Same thing happened to me and I get the same error message. These are the programs that don't work

    Francisco to Paris

    Hello FM-Paris,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your Mac mini.  I would be concerned too if my Mac mini was restarting unexpectedly.  I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" in the article below to help isolate and troubleshoot this issue:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

  • Computer restarted after Mac OSX ...

I've been surfing the net for a solution to this for two days, and so far nothing has worked. I'll abbreviate this 'nightmare' as best I can ...
I have a Mac G5 running 10.5x. Been running fine since I bought it some years back. Last week it just froze. Fans kicked on - the whole shabang. I was able to view the hard drive using my laptop and save my important files to an external hard drive. I attempted an Archive and Install, but the computer froze at 23% complete. I was able to get it started again after multiple attempts only to freeze again (and again, and again). I decided to forgo the Archive and Install and just wipe the slate clean with a fresh install. After the new install, the machine runs ... well kinda' whenever it pleases then it freezes. Initially I was getting the black kernel panic box. Now it just freezes up and I have to do a hard restart which gives me the dreaded "The computer was restarted after Mac OSX quit unexpectedly" when it reboots. Then it runs for a while, freezes, restart, run, freeze. You get the picture.
The forums that I've visited suggested many things, and here's what I've done so far:
    Verified and repaired my disk
    Repaired permissions
Ran a program called "Remember" because many of these issues seem to be related to RAM. (Remember reported all RAM to be okay)
    Disabled screensavers
    Disabled sleep
    Disconnected all peripherals
Ran software update so all software is current
I had an Apple Genius look at it yesterday, and he told me everything's fine. He opened and closed apps, surfed the net, a total of five or ten minutes. The machine worked like a champ. It never froze. Of course I bring it home and just today it's frozen three times. No pattern that I have noticed, and I've been documenting all of my actions.
From what I've read, this is USUALLY a software issue. I have not installed any software since the reinstall. All that's on the machine is what was included on the install DVD. The RAM that I'm using is the original factory installed RAM (2-2 gig chips).
My IT friend told me to cut my losses because the machine is toast. I'm having trouble believing that.
Anyone out there have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance -

Do not use the leopard disk, use the gray disk (Disk 1) you got from the original box. It will erase the entire hard drive and install factory settings. After you install from the gray disk, let it run for a little until you install the leopard retail disk.

  • "the computer was restarted after mac os x quit" followed by Kernel Panic

Running an Intel IMac 8,1. I think I'm running 10.5.5, but I'm not 100% sure.
Every time I start my computer pops up a display saying "the computer was restarted after mac os x quit" ignore/report.....and before I can click either, Kernel Panic happens.
I've tried hardware test and utilities/repair and neither works. Going to try to loop hardware test it over night.
I'm also at a loss as to how to get the log file and post it. I can connect it to a laptop, so if there is some way to do it that way, please let me know.
    Thank you for any help.

I got into my computer by booting into safe mode, so here's a ton of information and I hope some of it is useful.
A apologize if the formatting is wrong, I'm going from Mac to PC. Also, turns out my computer is running 10.5.4.

  • Computer automatically restarting after installing iPOD

I installed my iPOD yesterday and since I did, my computer restarts after I close my browser windows. No matter what time I go on any program, after I am done doing whatever, internet, itunes, my documents, whatever, it always restarts. Whats going on? Also before I installed ipod, it would charge no problem. Now it only charges when updating files. Called tech support, no help at all. I have a 1.1 usb port. Please help. I am very disapointed. Also I have 30GB ipod.

i would recommend a usb 2 card they dont cost to much. this will more than likely be the cause of your problem

  • The computer need to restart! (After upgrading to ver 10.6.2)

Lately, I've upgraded my Imac to version 10.6.2 in order to install the new magic mouse, after a while my Imac got this problem: The screen suddenly turns to half black and there is a notice :This computer need to restart..." I have to hold down the button to turn the computer off and then turn it on again. It happens very random but could be 4 or 5 times a day.
So have anyone of you has the same issue? What the reason and how to fix it? Pleaseee...

You are experiencing a Kernel Panic as seen and described in Apple doc. HT1392. If not, disregard.
Bad or incompatible RAM is, more often then not, the cause of most Kernel Panics. It could also just need to be reset.
Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.
Here is a great MacFixIt article.

  • In setup wizard it says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous uninstall. Do you want to reboot now?" after uninstalling old version and trying to install new. I CAN NOT run ANY version now......HELP

I had an old version of Firefox and uninstalled it. Then I installed the 5.0 version. BUT, in the setup wizard it says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous uninstall of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?" I choose "YES" and the computer reboots, but when I run the setup wizard again, it says the same thing. I have reinstalled it 8 times, and it says the same thing......I have searched my computer for it, and can't find what it's talking about!! HELP!!!!!!
