Computer start up?

Hi,
My QS has trouble starting up. I'm stuck with a blue screen.
I just got finished reinstalling the system and updating it to 10.2.8 and installing all the software ( ilife, Quicktime, Microsoft Office X ). I then went to the internet to update whatever needed to be updated. There were a few security updates to do, Quicktime, etc. During the updates, I went to eat. When I returned, everything was done (no open windows showing), so I restarted the computer. That's when this blue screen appeared.
I've tried resetting PRAM, when I reset the NVRAM, it says it doesn't recognize NVRAM.
I've started up using the hardware test cd and everything checks out okay.
Can someone help me with this problem?
Hey, a log in window just appeared.......typed in name and password....now there's a beachball......What the heck is wrong?
QS 733, dual 2.0 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)  

Try things in Mac101 (no offense) and Apple doc.#106464 for your startup issue.
Also, try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes repair thread, what PB PM so helpfully suggested. Dr.'s link will walk you thru it.

    I contacted technical help at Apple and was told to hold down the ctrl and alt keys with two other keys, I think the S or P keys when powering up. This worked
    and the computer seemed fine but now the problem has reappeared.  Is there a way to removed downloaded updates from the computer or revert it to an earlier state?   Sorry for the long question. Hopefully one of you clever people can help.   Simon

    It's always good to go with one thing at a time and stay focused on that. Let's start with the OS you're running. Click on the Apple menu > About This Mac. What does it say under Mac OS X version ?

    Hold the Option key down and restart. Select one of the drives that comes up and hit the Return key.

    What the message says.  In iTunes g the the Store tab in ther upper part of the screen and then clink on Authorize this computer.

  • Bluetooth no longer loads automatically when the computer starts

    I have the Bluetooth Stack version 2.01.21.1. It was working fine. When the laptop booted up, the bluetooth mouse was automatically connected.
    All of a sudden the icon no longer appears automatically in the system tray and so I have to manually connect the mouse each time
    It is still listed in the startup menu on the desktop and it is still checked in startup in the msconfig.
    How do I fix this?

    I have just gotten off the phone with a microsoft tech who actually seems to have fixed this somewhat
    He went to start/run to get to services.msc.
    He chose "SSDP Discovery Services" which "enables discovery of
    UPnP devices on your home network" and DISABLED it.
    Go figure
    The BT icon now appears in my system tray and starts up automatically when the computer starts.
    I say somewhat because It still disconnects if left idle for a long period, which it did not do previously, but at least it is there when I log on.
    I want to mention that I have a Dell, not a Toshiba (did not realize this forum was for Toshiba laptops rather than Toshiba software) but perhaps
    you will find this information useful.
    Also, at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx you will find an autorun tool that lets you fix what is or is not
    in the startup menus. It seems to work better than using msconfig which on my laptop was not making a difference as to what started up and what did not.
    It is meant for IT professionals so I would not mess with it too much. However if you just check or uncheck in the startups for the BT manager you will
    not do any damage.

    What’s the version of your TFS?
    How do you configure the test control?
    Please make sure you are specify the team collection instead of team project.
    On the other hand, you may enable test controller logs. (You could share the log file on the OneDrive)

    I have refurbished my old MacBook for my 11 year old daughter, and created an account for her and an admin account for me, so that I could restrict access after 8pm. The computer automatically starts up in my account, which is very annoying for her. Can I set it somewhere so that the computer starts up on her account?

    Yes. System Preferences - Users and Groups - Login Options. Set "Automatic Login" to her account.

    Hello everyone,
    I have an Apple iBook G4, which I recently joined to a network in the student building where I live. Now, every time the computer starts it, it does two weird things: first, it shows a blinking icon of the world, and then it shows a blinking icon of first a question mark and then the smiling faces that were the symbol of (I think) Mac OS 9. These disappear after a few seconds and then the computer starts up as normal. Does anybody know what these mean? Does it mean that my computer has been damaged? Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?

    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
    Open System Preferences (in Apple menu), then select the Startup Disk item. Set your internal hard drive as the startup volume.
    The image of the globe indicates that Startup Disk got set (somehow) to Network Disk; when the Mac times out looking for that, it then displays the alternating question mark and Mac OS logo while it looks for another volume from which it can boot. Eventually it finds the OS on the hard drive and boots.

    note - i wiped my ipod before this issue occurred, does this affect the problem?

  • How do I disable Lr from opening on computer start-up? It's too slow.

    Upon installation of Lr 2 on my Mac Pro OS 10.5, I selected an option to open Lr upon computer start-up.
    However, due to the lengthy time it takes Lr to start, I would like to disable this option, but can't find any means of doing it in Lr Preferences or in the top menu items.
    How can I do this?

    If Light Room on your Systems Dock Click on its icon and do not release. a pop up menu should show if open at Login is checked uncheck it.
    If its not checked then when open go to preferences and deselect Open at login.
    If not there go to System preference Accounts > Login Items is something is there with Light room  in name either unckeck and try after restarting computer. Or remove it al together.

    That is the Compatibility report that I'm getting when trying to install onto parallels 10 Version 10.2.0 (28956) on my mid 2009 Macbook 13. This happens just after I click 'Install now' and accept the T&Cs.
    I am selecting 'Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, setting and applications'. 
    I am upgrading from the Windows Technical Preview Evaluation Copy. Build 9879.
    I have updated my EFI and tried a few restarts and am booting from a CD. No luck yet.

    I am not familiar with mac machines, based on what I know, there should be more settigns that need to be configured before the installation of Windows, I suggest you contact the manufacturer for further help regarding how to make Windows to upgrade smoothly.

    I recently upgraded my home network with a 1TB 2.5' external hard drive plugged into my Airport Extreme, which we use at home to store files and more importantly as Time Machine HD for backup.
    the trick is when a computer starts (both a iMac G5 and a Macbook are on the network), I need to manually connect to the hard drive for the OS to mount/recognize it and Time Machine to be able to run backups.
    Is there a command or even a script which will execute this automatically so when one computer starts the HD on the Airport USB mount automatically in Finder? thanks for any suggestions

    Ever since the Airport Extreme 802.11n exists i used wireless HD storage, and lately used it as Time Machine backup. Never had (fingers crossed) any issues, the Airport Setup is quite handy to setup access and password for USB connected HD on the AP Extreme.
