Computer still Whines after Apple Care

Hi everyone,
My MacBook makes the whining sound when the processor isn't working on something. I can turn on Bluetooth for temporary relief, but even then the computer will eventually start making the whining sound.
I sent the computer in to AppleCare, and they essentially gutted it and replaced several things. Unfortunately, the sound is still there.
My question is this... has anyone had the whining sound from the MacBook effectively dealt with, or is this something I am going to have to live with?

Hello, sorry to hear that you have an issue.
My old MacBook had some of the symptoms you discribed, but it was only when the backlight would dim. At which point you could hear it whin. Apple replaced the logic board for a completely different reason, and I thought the logic board replacement would solve it, but it didn't, nor did it solve the other issue. At this point in time Apple decided to give me a new machine- after 3 archive and installs, about 2 attempts to repair. Once I got my new one I sucked all the info from the old to the new, and did an erase and install on the old one so no information would still be on it. After I did that left it turned on for light web browsing while my new one was updating to 10.4.8. I then noticed that the whine wasn't there anymore, fluke- maybe, but it might be some kind of screwed up setting in the OSX that you got.

No, sorry. it won't work with the 2007 MBP. You can replace the optical drive yourself - just go shopping at OWC.

  • Am I still covered by apple care ?

AM I still covered by apple care ?

That one can be buggy or it may only work during the first year warranty. I get a constantly churning gear from that, but this one works.

If that still doesn't do it, call Apple and ask to speak to Agreements Administration.

  • I am planning on buying an iphone 4 from some one. The phone still has the Apple Care Protection plan on it. Would there need to be a transfer of plan onto my name? If so, how is this done?

Hi, I am planning on buying an iphone 4 from some one. The phone still has the Apple Care Protection plan on it. Would there need to be a transfer of plan onto my name? If so, how is this done?

As the others have said, transferring AppleCare to your name is not absolutely essential. It can make things easier in some cases, though, should questions arise, so it's worth having done. The person from whom you're buying the iPhone will have to call AppleCare Plan Administration (s/he can call the normal Apple support line and ask to be transferred) and arrange to have the plan transferred to you.
    Regards.

  • Life after Apple Care

Well, my Apple Care on my June 2009 MBP is finally due to expire in a few weeks. Is there anything I should take advantage of before it expires, or anything I should know about maintaining my computer later?
I don't have any particular symptoms, except that I still have the original 2GB of memory and so I never upgraded past OS 10.6.8.  This hasn't been a problem for me, as I'm using the laptop less and less as I use the iPad for most routine stuff. So I see no need to upgrade the MBP unless there's a good reason to. Any info on the continuing functionality of Snow Leopard?
If/when I do decide to upgrade, is installing memory oneself recommended for someone who's never opened a laptop before? Is it generally safer to have the experts do it, and should I do it now under Apple Care?

I really hoped that this machine could last longer than 3 years,
Depending upon use, if near daily and moving it around, dusty environments, cat hair, not using external devices like keyboards and mice, then yes, it can go in 3 years.
More like 5 years if used less and in a pristine manner, except Apple puts the screws to the machine with a OS X upgrade that can hobble it or break it.
Can you explain more about why Firefox?
It's a free third party web browser from  Mozilla and it gets updates for OS X 10.6, unlike Apple who has abandoned Safari for 10.6 users.
It's fast, it gets security updates (sometimes in hours) and it's the most customizable and powerful browser.

Firefox is the "people's" browser, packing more add-ons, personas, themes than any other browser.

Don't like ads? Or popups or anything else? There is likely a addon that will take care of it.
I use Firefox because I'm hard of seeing, so I've customized it so I can see everything nice and clear, Safari is very hard on the eyes as it's so tiny and black on gray.

  • Help! Computer still not seeing Apple TV

No matter what I do, my computer is not seeing my new Apple TV (got it used). I have a ATT Uverse modem and both my G4 (OS X 10.4.11) and the Apple TV are plugged into it. They can both connect just fine, but the computer is not seeing it when I go to preferences>Apple TV. Both iTunes and the Apple TV have the latest software and I even reset the Apple TV to factory settings and re-installed iTunes. I even went so far as to use a wireless modem plugged into one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the Uverse modem and connected both my computer and Apple TV to that modem so they are on the same network.
Is there something I am missing? No matter what I do it is not working

While I have a PC, I went through exactly the same problem you are having. No matter what I did, I could not get it to see the device. After clicking on pretty much every possible link, I found a message stating iTunes could not see Apple TV because the Bonjour service was not enabled. Only problem was ... there is nowhere to enable Bonjour + searching for this word through Apple's help had no results. It wasn't until I Googled it that I found a link to download the program (which the book never mentions by the way). The link ironically leads back to Apple's site. Once downloaded, it saw it immediately and worked fine. While a Mac is configured different, it sounds like you need the Mac version of this software.

  • Computer wont start after apple logo shows up..

I have a friend who owns a MBP 13 Late 2012, and suddenly he explains computer after he shut it down, the gray screen shows up and apple logo too, but never enter to the OS.
I have had this problem with a 2009 iMac in the past and they told me it was a problem of humidity and or dust, and so they had to change the Motherboard.
Have any one experienced this ?
I even did the PRam reset several times with no luck, actuallu It wanted to start (get into the OS) but MBP kept with little spinning circle.
    Any thoughts?

So I received the MBP, and did the Command R to get to recovery mode, and after the World spinning, I got this Message: www.apple.com/support and then -5010F ... (image 1)
Power it off and reboot it with OPTION key, and selected Macintosh, and after that the Apple logo shows up with the little circle spinning infinitely.
What do you think? Doesnt go any further than this: (image 2)

  • After Apple Care (Memory, applications, and more)

Just got my ibook back from the shop; hard drive was bad! I have two problems right now: I can't seem to get the extra RAM recognized by the computer. I think I reinstalled it correctly. The other is that Apple Works is no longer on the computer. I am not in favor of erasing anything since I been downloading all the updates for the past number of hours and for other reasons. Any advice?

Appleworks should be on the software restore disks that came with your computer. You can reinstall it from them. It should be in a separate applications folder. I don't remember the exact name of the folder but it should be there. If not then you can try to extract it from the software restore disk using Pacifist, which can be downloaded from Version Tracker. If that does not work you can do an archive and install so that you don't lose any of your files. This will create a new system folder but leave your home folder and all of your settings and preferences untouched.
    Here is some general information on performing an archive and install that you may find useful;

  • How to unlink two iPhones are still linked after Apple ID change?

I upgraded to iPhone 5s and gave my 4s to a friend. I reset it and everything but the iPhone still had all of my contacts and everything on it. She reset it, it didn't do anything different. She messed around and somehow got her email address connected to my apple iD. I sent her to the sprint store for them to help her reset it. They set the phone up for her but our phones are somehow still linked. I have deleted her email address from my apple account. It had it under the alternative address section. But when I go to send a text message and look up someone's number through the search, it brings up names and numbers that are on her phone, but not in my contacts. When I go to my contacts, they do not show up. Only when searching on the text message section. Also I notice that her email address is still listed in my icloud account. When I click on iCloud under settings and and click on my account email address it brings up my account info. But at the bottom it says "advance" and her email address shows there.  how do I fix this?

This isn't being cused by iCloud.  It happens when you both use the same Apple ID for iMessage.  To fix this you have two choices:
On one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Note: you can still share the same ID for purchasing in Settings>iTunes & App Stores; or
On both phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at".
Also be sure you aren't using the same ID for FaceTime or you'll get each other's FaceTime calls.  If you are, one one of the phones go to Setings>Facetime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.

I have the creative suite CS5 on my computer given to me from my company. I was one of their computers on the purchase. Now the rest of the team has upgraded to the cloud. When i open my desktop version it asks me for a serial number, and when i input says it is no longer valid. Shouldn't my computer version still work even though they upgraded?

  • Is my computer covered under the apple care

is my printer covered under the apple care

Your Mac is only covered under AppleCare if you bought AppleCare. Otherwise it has a one year warranty starting with the day that you bought it.
You printer is not covered by Apple, it will have whatever warranty that the manufacturer offers on their printers.

  • Can I still buy apple care protection?

Hi I just bought my Macbook this past Saturday. I wanted to know if I can still buy the apple care protection. (nothing is wrong with my beautiful mac by the way) Are they all 250? thanks a lot

You can purchase AppleCare anytime within the first year of ownership. It does need to be registered before that standard one year warranty expires, so be sure to do that quickly after purchase.
You do not need to buy it direct from Apple and if you go somewhere else you can get it for less. LA Computer Company is a place that has it for $179 HERE. Others have bought it from eBay or just dug around at PriceWatch or PriceGrabber for a deal.

Standard AppleCare = 1 year if you can find it.
