Computer Stuttering Repeatedly

Every 10 seconds or so my system freezes then starts moving again. This is quite annoying. I've ran Disk Utility and fixed permissions, ran Apple Hardware Test and no problems were found. Please help!

This – panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff7fada69f63): "GPU Panic: – indicates there's an issue with the graphics card. Have you tried the Apple Hardware Test?

  • Computer stutters when naming recordings

When I record audio tracks and try to name the recorded file while the record button is activated the computer stutters and it takes too long. I have 2 GB of ram but it looks like the computer has a hard time processing when I do this. When the record button is off, then everything is fine. Also how do I get more recent song entries. In logic 7 there were about 20 and now I only have about 9. I have tried going to pref and then appearance and changing the number of recent items but that doesn't help.

Thanks, though I've solved this one myself. For the sake of some future googler, let me say that the problem was a dri've reverting to PIO mode instead of Ultra DMA (see the Primary DMA in your device manager). Solved by uninstalling the Primary DMA in the aforementioned device manager.

  • Why is my computer "stuttering" while trying to process tasks it's more than capable of handling? (iMovie editing, audio processing, general usage, etc)

I'm really at a loss here.
I recently "upgraded" to a 2008 Mac Pro with 12GB RAM, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad core processors, 1.5GB VRAM, etc etc. A much better computer than my late 2007 Macbook Pro with a 2.4 GHz Dualcore, 4GB RAM, and 256 MB VRAM.
Despite this massive technical improvement, basic operations still stutter and spurt fairly often. I've checked for Spyware/Viruses/Malware, I've dusted the inside of the tower, I've got plenty of hard drive space left over, and Activity Monitor always has at least 6GB RAM and 75% of the CPU "power" remaining. By all counts, the computer is having no issues at all handling anything I throw at it, and yet... it constantly will freeze for a moment or two, just like my old Macbook Pro used to while it had to load previews of clips in iMovie, load up effects in a music editor, etc etc. It even does this if I full-screen a Youtube video without waiting for it to load fully, or open one program before another one has fully loaded up.
What gives? Why can't I do basic operations without it stuttering a couple of times a minute? The computer is more than capable.

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • IPod Classic won't sync to new computer and repeatedly connects and disconnects

i have recently been issued a new laptop (lenovo thinkpad X230i, windows 7) and want to sync my existing iPod Classic to it. i set up iTunes (11) without any problems, however my ipod t appear in My Computer or in my iTunes library.
I've tried everything suggested in 'iPod troubleshooting' but nothing seems to work.
also when i plugged it into my old computer, to which my ipod is currently synced, an error message appeared saying that 'a file could not be found', the iPod also repeatedly connects and disconnects.
if anyone has had the same problem or has some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

    Sorted it now.

  • Authorization of Computer after repeated

My windows operating system has had to be reloaded two times, and in the process, I've lost several operating progams, including the I-tunes installations. After each re-install of the XP operating system by the IT department (claiming an incompatibility with Seagate software crashing the system), I have re-installed I-tunes and it has consumed another of my authorizations. This same machine has now consumed three authorizations out of my 5. Is there any way to undo this... or rectify it.... or to **** sure prevent it in the future?

If your system crashes or you reinstall your operating system without deauthorising iTunes first, even a single computer can use up your limit of 5 authorisations. Since crashes can't be anticipated there's not much you can do about them, if you have time to plan a reinstallation of your OS you should deathorise the computer first. If you've reached your limit of 5 you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go and start over: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

thank you, I am now trying the kernal panic mode you recommended. I thought that of the ram as when I first tried turning it on today, I was getting repetative beeps (1 beep each time), but both rams were secure. Then it finally started up and was doing this. I'll update back as soon as i've tried this. Fingers crossed, thank you for your help

  • I found the update function for Genius which is hidden in the Store menu but not in the actually Store. I repeatedly update Genius, get the message that it is communicating with Apple, then that Genius is updated but it never works. What gives?

Repeted updates to Genius do nothing. I always get an error message for all 13,000 songs I have. My disc drive crashed and its taken months to reload click by click every song from the cloud or my computer. iTunes repeatedly crashes if you try to load more than about 50 songs at a time, and always crashes around the 200th song. All my playlists were erased and when I synch one of my two iPods everything on that was erased including all the play lists, I don't ever want to synch my other iPod because it still has dozens of my play lists that it took years to create based on 13,000 songs. So warning iTunes totally ***** if this ever happens to you. My Zune account on the other hand was fine. Anyway back to the question at hand - Genius use to work for my collection. Genius still works for the iPod which I will never synch again, why doesn't it work for my collection now despite repeated updates. Suppose its just another buggy Apple piece of software. BTW don't ever use Apple's iCloud it eats your entire music collection, erases it from you computer and then doles it out one click at a time from the cloud - another stupid piece of software from the geniuses at Apple. But why am I surprised Apple destroyed the record industry, so why not destroy everyone's CD collection and just reduce us all to slaves of iTunes and its magic. I'm sick of Apple and its bloated reputation for great software.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install (Version 7.7.1). Does it go through properly this time?

  • I have  new computer, how do I transfer my old library over , thought Homesharing would work but I cant figure out how to transfer. Thanks

I have a new laptop and have installed iTunes. How do I transfer my library from my old computer over?  I thought Homesharing would do it but I cant figure it out. I got to the point of it showing that I have homesharing on each computer but how do I download the old into the new?  Thanks

I tried this with apps and it worked flawlessly!!
You can do the same with music, playlists etc
I did it on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
You should have same Itunes version on both systems!!
Here are the methods to follow:
Just for safety, on your new PC go to Edit > Preferences > Devices - and check "Prevent Ipods, Iphones and Ipad from syncing automatically.
    From your old computer,
    1) Open itunes
    2) Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced
    3) here you may see a location under heading "itunes media folder location"
    4) Go to that location and open "mobile applications" folder. Copy the entire files/apps inside it and paste it to any removable device supporting the size.
    On your new computer:
    a) Repeat steps 1 to 3.
    b) Go to the location you have found in your new computer. You'll find same folders. Now, copy apps/files from your removable device to "Automatically Add to Itunes folder" DO NOT COPY it in Mobile applications folder because it won't sync that way!
This completely restored all my apps that I had to transfer from my PC to laptop!! You can try to do same with music... This should work!
    HOPE THIS HELPS!

  • U150 keyboard malfunction after changing screen, = repeating, few numbers not working

    Hi!
I changed my cracked U150 screen on my own (warranty is passed).  I thought it worked fine on test boot before attaching the bezel.  I aborted the test boot (as the instruction video said to do), and put on the bezel with some difficulty (it's a tight fit on the bottom of the screen around the hinges).
The next boot up failed, which I've never seen before. Got a bit worried, as it wanted me to try recovering to a set point (several weeks prior).  Opted to just turn off and back on, and it seemed to work...EXCEPT now a few keys on the keyboard malfunction.  Esc, `, 5, 6, 0, ) and Delete all type their character and then immediately type an = which repeats.  The actual = button does nothing: types nothing.  In caps, the keys do the same thing, but of course type a + which repeats.  F5 also does it, and I'm not sure about other F keys because I don't want to do some function that will shut down my typing right now!
U15============ 0========= )+===========  When I press any other key, the repeating equals stops, of course...
When I boot up, the computer beeps repeatedly as if a key is repeating in error, so something in startup must use one of those keys and causes the same issue: since I don't actually press any key on bootup, does that indicate it's more of a software problem than a hardware problem?
I've taken off the screen bezel again (a real pain and not a good repeated activity because I typically break one tiny plastic clip each time no matter how careful I am) and no change. I see no keyboard cable anywhere near the screen or cover or hinges-just WLAN cables and the camera. I did not spill anything on the keyboard and it worked totally fine until I replaced the screen. Online info about Lenovo S or Y series seems to show the keyboard cable down low, so again, not near the screen.  The screen website (laptopscreen.com) folks had nothing to say that helped. My search online shows nobody with a similar experience.
There is no Lenovo keyboard driver on the Lenovo site, so I don't see that uninstalling and reinstalling the driver would make a difference: besides, how do I reinstall a keyboard driver if I can't use the keyboard once I've uninstalled it?  Is the mousepad enough to reinstall?
So, I would be ever ever so grateful for any help/ideas. What's my next step: taking out the keyboard to see if the cable loosened, even though I went nowhere near the cable??
    Thanks!!

So it's been a while, but these things can drag out in life...now my brain is starting to adapt to the change, and that's annoying, so I'm back at trying to fix this.
I tried safe mode, and the problem persists.  I tried returning all my startup options to default, and it persists.  I previously had returned to a Restore Point before the problem, and that didn't fix it.
Today I was going to look at the keyboard cable, but getting the top off is proving to be difficult and since I can use the machine as is, even if annoying, I don't want to go there yet.  Besides, there is no reason for this to be a hardware issue:
I aborted a bootup by pressing and holding the power button.
Next bootup failed, and the machine asked me to restore to a previous Restore Point.
I turned off the machine again instead of restoring, and ever since then I've had the keyboard problem.
I tried uninstalling the keyboard and restarting computer so the driver reinstalls, and that didn't fix it.
I plugged in an external keyboard and that worked fine.
I am now wondering about using Linux to get at the problem.
Any ideas?  I totally appreciate how active you are on this forum, and all the folks you've given advice to.  You are making computers work for people: thanks!!

  • Accessing external SSD causes FCPX and entire computer to crash

    Hello,
I am running the latest Version of Final Cut Pro X on my 13 inch retina MacBook display late-2013 fully loaded, going @ Best For Retina.
I am working on a project and every time I connect my media SSD via thunderbolt to the computer, and attempt to import the files in FCPX, my computer stutters and the screen completely goes black forcing a hard boot. All I need to do is go to Import > then click on the drive where my files are located, and click on ONE (without even trying to import, just to preview it), my system freezes and collapses.
These files are 1080p ProRes 4:2:2 10bit RGB.
I'm wondering if it is the project settings, my computer, or the SSD itself. Though I doubt it would be in the media drive because the files play finely in Finder and QuickTime.
    Any help would be appreciated!

With a hard crash like you describe, my guess is that there is something going on with either the SSD or the connection.
Can you import files from the internal SSD?
What is the model of the Thunderbolt SSD? Cable?

  • Backspace + power keys freezes the computer

    in this state:
    - keyboard backlight is ON

    - if is connected external monitor, then it show only on external monitor last picture, but image is freezed
    - it respons only on power button long press for restart the computer
this state is on my computer 100% repeatable.
when I press power button only, this is working normally.
    thanks for any solution.

Did you recently upgrade to 10.4.8? Not sure of your OS version due to the multiple items listed at the bottom of your post.
There are two things you can quickly try:
move the com.apple.safari.plist file in your User Library>Preferences to the desktop and restart Safari. Does the crash stop? If not, move the file back to its original location, replacing the newly created Preference file. If it works, then you'll need to reset your Safari Preferences as well as View menu and Edit menu (spelling) selections you may have chosen.
Try Safari from another User Account. Does it crash? You can create another user account by going to System Preferences>Accounts. Apple directions are here..
    Post back with results.

  • How i backup my contacts to other computer in itunes

how i backup my contacts from one pc to another pc

I assume you sync your phone with an address book on your one computer.  Thus it is in your address book.  So to backup you would back up your address book from your computer as you would normally.  It has nothing to do with the iPhone.
Then you would get that backup into the other computer.
How you go about this is based on your computer and what software you use.  Most common is open your address book on computer and locate option to Export.  Then copy that file to other computer and repeat using the Import option.
