Computer take too long to boot up

Having trouble booting up computer mountain lion

How slow? Make sure that you have your disk selected as the startup disk in System Preferences>Startup Disk.
There are a couple of other things you could try if this doesn't work...

What happens when you boot as follows?
    1. Boot into Safe Mode. See Advanced startup options (including safe mode).
    2. Boot normally into another user account. If necessary, create one.

  • Sometimes my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I am running a pretty powerful work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network, is it a hard drive issue? do I need to "clean out" the computer?

Many times my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy.  It is a Macbook Pro  osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).

Almost certainly none of the above!  Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari;  move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false

  • MAcbook takes too long to boot

From one day to another our macbook takes too long to boot. The problem is since we push the power button until the first grey apple shows up, it can take up to 30 seconds. Since the apple shows up it boot in a few seconds. All the process up to 1.20 minutes.

Also... once you are in OS X, go to System Preferences and Startup Disk. Make sure your OS X volume is selected. Sometimes this can change causing your system to look for another startup disk... and it needs to "time out" before it moves on to the next. This is most common after removing a BootCamp installation of Windows... but can happen for any number of reasons.

  • Computer takes too long o shut down

Recently noticed that sometimes when you turn off the computer  takes a long time I have to keep the power bottom tight  until it shuts down sure that , my question it is a hardware isues??? . Please can you tell what to do.
    Thanks,
    Oscar Velasquez

You shouldn't have to use the power button. When you choose Shut Down from the Apple menu in the upper left corner, how long does it take? How long have you left it trying to shut down? It isn't instant.

  • MacBook Pro takes too long to boot

I have a late-2013, 15" MacBook Pro with retina display.
It takes a half hour or more to boot if I reboot it after using it for any appreciable amount of time. Sometimes I can get it to boot faster if I boot it in safe mode, or if I interrupt it by powering off a few minutes into the boot process and then restarting it.
The computer hangs on the white screen with the Apple logo showing and the spinner spinning.
If I reboot it immediately after it finally boots up, it boots normally.
I've tried everything I can think of to diagnose and fix this problem. I uninstalled every bit of software I'm not using. I removed unneeded printers and other devices. I removed all my Login items except for DropBox and iTunes Helper.
I have no startup items (both /LibraryStartupItems and /System/Library/StartupItems are empty, and ~/Library/StartupItems does not exist).
Before I got the MacBook Pro I had a 2011 MacBook Air. I used the Time Machine backup from the Air to initialize the Pro. I never had any such problem with the Air. I also have a 2013 iMac, which has most of the same software installed on it as my MacBook Pro; the iMac exhibits no issues with booting or any other problems.
I've repeatedly repaired my disk and permissions. I do it every time I have to boot. It makes no difference.
At first I thought this was a minor issue I could live with, since I don't reboot my computer every day, but it's become increasingly annoying. On several occasions I've had the computer crash unexpectedly which meant I was out of business for half an hour while I tried to reboot it. Once this happened while I was giving a presentation to a group of people with a projector, which was extremely frustrating. In fact, compared to other Macs I own or have owned in the past, this MacBook Pro crashes a lot more often.
I've found several other posts about this problem. Is there just some fundamental issue with these MacBook Pros? Is Apple aware of it? Will they be able to fix it with an OS update or a firmware update? How long will I have to wait for that?

  • My Toshiba satellite takes too long to boot up

I bought a Toshiba satellite C855D-S5238 a little over a month ago, and now it when it gets to the part of the boot up where it should show were to input my password it takes about 5 minutes to show up.  However when I boot up in safe mode it is just about instant.

    Satellite C855D-S5238
Since the system is brand new, Jonathan, I would probably return the hard disk to factory new. If there are still troubles, you know that software does not cause them. See the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 53 of the User's Guide.
       Satellite/Satellite Pro C800 Series User’s Guide
when I boot up in safe mode it is just about instant.
If you prefer to start troubleshooting, see what happens when you boot clean.
       1. Open the System Configuration utility (msconfig.exe).
       2. On the General tab, click Selective startup and clear the Load startup items check box.
       3. On the Services tab, click the Hide all Microsoft services check box and click Disable all.
       4. OK out and restart the computer.

  • Satelite M30x-129 takes too long to boot

After pressing the power botton ( blue ), it takes up to 15-30min before the laptop start booting, something it hangs @ selecting boot device...
I have changed the RAM, I'm on my way to the processor,
Please I need help with this...
    Thanks

    Hello
For new spare parts you should contact the nearest ASP. The technicians can order all Toshiba parts and exchange it for you. On the Toshiba website you can search for an ASP:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider
Do you have experience how to disassemble a notebook? If yes you can look on eBay for a second hand mainboard. This should be cheaper as a new one and if you have experience with notebooks you can exchange it yourself.

  • Takes too long to hibernate when I close the lid - Also random device noise when it boots up

    Hello guys.
Ever since i've wiped the machine, i've been having these two problems. When I close the lid, it used to go to sleep straight away, but now I can see the sleep light (and the power button) flash and flash, then it goes to sleep.
When waking up it goes through the lenovo startup screen and resuming windows, then it asks for a password, before I used to open the lid and it would ask me for the password straight away. I know it was going to sleep because I could hear the beep straight away when I closed and opened it, but now it just takes too long.
Also, everytime I boot up into windows or resume into windows from a sleep state, I can hear the device noise, like something is being plugged in/out. But there is nothing being plugged in or out at the time. I can't get to device manager quick enough to see what it is that is causing it.
    But all drivers seem okay.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sam.
EDIT: Also noticed, when the lid is closed, randomly the laptop turns off (hear the beep) an then turns back off again.
    Weird.

Restoring the iPhone will reload its firmware.
Plug the iPhone into (the current version of) iTunes on your computer.
Let it sync.  Then choose "Restore" from the iPhone's summary page in iTunes.

  • Why ipad 2 / iphone 3g resetting takes too long?

Im trying to reset and delete all content of my ipad and iphone 3g by choosing the selections about resetting on the general. Why it takes too long to reset my ipad / iphone 3g? It is almost 2 days my ipad are on the apple logo / looping circle appears on it and still im waiting for my ipad / iphone 3g to return to main screen.  What will i do? Thanks...

There is no other way except to restore the iPad - plain and simple. You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
You will need to use recovery mode

  • Having lagging problems with YouTube videos, it simply takes so long for the red bar to completely load and the videos frequently pause and take too long to restart playing again.

I have been having lagging problems with YouTube videos for a number of months now. It simply takes so long for the red bar to completely load and the videos frequently pause and take too long to restart playing again. Even with little 2 and 3 minute videos.
I have a fast computer and my webpages load really, really fast. I have FireFox 4 browser and a Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. So I don't have a slow computer or web browser. But these slow YouTube vids take way too long to load for some reason.
Does anyone have any idea how I can speed up YouTube?

    Hi
The forums are customer to customer in the first instance, Only the mods (BT) will ask for personal information through a email link. Would you mind posting your Hub stats & BT speed test results this will help all with diagnosis-
To post the full stats from your router
    for home hub - 192.168.1.254
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right
Click on More Details and then post the results.
Run BT speed tester and post the results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
If possible it would be best to connect to the BT master socket this will rule out any telephone/broadband extension wiring also consider the housing of the hub/router as anything electrical can cause problems as these are your responsibility, if these are found to be the case Openreach (engineer) will charge BT Broadband, which will be passed onto you, around £130.00.
Noisy line! When making telephone calls, if so this is not good for your broadband, you can check-
Quite line test dial 17070 option 2 and listen - should hear nothing best done with old type analogue phone digital (dect) will do but may have slight hiss If you hear noise- crackling pops etc, report it as a noisy line on your phone, don’t mention broadband, Bt Faults on 151.
As for your FTTC its available in some areas between 40% & 80% of customers in enabled areas can receive it!

  • [SOLVED] initramfs takes too long to load

Using systemd-analyze I found out that initramfs takes too long to load:
    463ms (kernel) + 11875ms (initramfs) + 6014ms (userspace) = 18353ms
My HOOKS array in mkinitcpio.conf is the following:
HOOKS="base udev autodetect modconf block encrypt lvm2 filesystems usbinput fsck"
I suspect that the long loading time of initramfs is caused by partitions decryption (I am using dm-crypt / LUKS on top of LVM).
Is there any tool that can report loading times of HOOKS seperately, just like systemd-analyze plot does for userspace?

In what sense is it "too long"?
I'm just wondering: suppose that you find out that it is because you are using encryption. Would you then switch to a non-encrypted system? Would you make better use of the extra seconds you might save on those rare occasions when you reboot? Even if you reboot twice a day, you might save what? Suppose you would even save 5s per boot. That will give you a whole extra 1 minute and 10 seconds a week. Assuming you don't multitask. Obviously if you multitask, the gain will be less. Would that make it worth risking the security of your data?
EDIT: I didn't mean this to sound as confrontational as it does now I read it back. It just always puzzles me that people are so concerned about shaving a few milliseconds here and there. I always hope that they put the time they save to good use but then I realise that the time they spent shaving the milliseconds off will obviously outstrip the time saved.
I really don't care about the boot time because of the reasons you have already mentioned. I just want to figure out if there is any misconfiguration. I am just investigating why initramfs takes significant longer to load compared with my desktop Arch installation (non-encrypted) 1316ms for initramfs. My desktop has a Pentium 4 CPU and laptop has a quad-core i7.
roentgen wrote:11875ms (initramfs)  means the time it takes you to type the password.
systemd-analyze is not counting the time is spent to type the password.
