Computer takes 15 min to boot up
Hello,
I just installed Oracle 10g on my computer here at home and now my computer takes almost 15 min. to boot up. There was also a power outage here in town at the same time so I'm not sure if it has to do with the Oracle installation or the power outage. However, does anyone know if Oracle makes Windows start some sort of Oracle service at start up, which would cause the computer to launch the service when it boots up? If so, how can I disable it? I checked my Windows startup folder but there are no Oracle icons there.
Thanks,
Peter
Peter,
Oracle services start on windows startup as a background services that's why you won't see anything in the windows startup.
And the only time Oracle slows down a startup is when you don't have sufficient memory or a slow processor.
You can do waht was suggested in the previous post, and more you can create a batch file (*.bat) do start and stop Oracle just by double clicks.
visit this thread to get a sample of the batch file.
Slow windows xp startup

since I've installed lion and ios5 my imac takes 20-30 mins to boot! help!
ios5 has nothing to do with your boot time on your Mac. So 20-30 minutes. Have you tried installing the 10.7.2 combo updater?

Imac takes 10 min to boot. (most of the times it dosnt even boot!!!)
Yesterday night my imac took 10 min to boot getting stuck at each phase !! left it for the night and turned it on in the morning to find it booting in less than 30 sec !! after which in the afternoon it took 10 min again nd then failed to even boot ,getting stuck either at the apple logo or at the blue screen.
So i tried disk utility from the installation disk nd it said it had an incorrect count of blocks for a file.
repaired it nd it still didnt work. so i tried safe boot which leads to the same prb( stuck at blue screen). nd then verbose boot, it said Disk0s2 I/O error gose on but still dosnt boot. tried disk utility again nd this time it had an incorrect block count error for another file . i shut it down nd left it for an hour after which it booted in 2 min.
Am now backing up all my data.
Kindly help in solving this issue.
P.S have windows installed on bootcamp which is working perfectly. have run the hardware test which says everything is fine and the S.M.A.R.T status is also fine.

you could try if DiskWarrior can fix it.

PC takes ~10 mins to boot...
i just built a new system, specs below, and the system takes over ten minutes to boot.
i was having bios issues before i flashed it to 1.3 and now it seems to work alright.
the main problem is after POST, ram check, etc... right after the boot device check, the screen goes blank and hangs there for upwards of 5 minutes. then the win xp pro loading screen pops up and that hangs for over 5 minutes as well.
i'm not sure what could be causing this, i did turn off quick-boot in the bios, but it still shouldn't take this long to boot. any ideas? thanks in advance.

AMI Bios 1.3I would check to see if the chipset drivers, the most current ones are installed and there should be no "X " or "? " in Device Manager. Did you setup the promise controller for sata or raid in the bios? If you don't need raid then make sure it's set to sata and it won't look for drives, perhaps that's a part of the issue. Once you're into windows there are things you can do with System Config Utility to speed up getting to your desktop and eliminate things from starting like MSN Messenger or similar annoying programs. But that's a different post

Mavericks takes 11 mins to boot, what is causing this?
I believe this has started happening since upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks. Applications take a long time to start and the Mac is generally sluggish. ML did not show this behaviour.
My MBP takes 11 minutes in total from power on to restoring Mail, Google Chrome, Sublime Text 2, Terminal, 1Password. I also started Console while it was booting up to check it's progress. It took 11 minutes before I had my 6 tabs loaded in Chrome and the Mac was usable.
I've noticed that there is a truckload of messages in my system.log, and many of them don't look good. There is so much however, that I'm not sure where to start investigating the problem. Can anyone help to point to the cause of this problem? My Mac is becoming unusable for daily work at this point.

it take like about 3 -4 minutes to boot
What happens when you boot as follows?
1. Boot into Safe Mode. See Advanced startup options (including safe mode).
2. Boot normally into another user account. If necessary, create one.

First time posting on forums so hello
I have a G5 dual 2GHz and i have recently had a RAM upgrade from the standard 512 that comes with it to 2.5gb using 2 1gb sticks of Kingston RAM. The installation was about a month ago and everything worked swimingly untill last night when whilst moving a few fies the Finder stoped responding and 'apple, option, esc' even refused to work. so i switched it off by holding down the power button. This is where it all went wrong
First it refused to start up at all (grey screen and spinning wheel), but after using the install disk (10.2) i used the Disk Utility and repaired the drive which did have some red issues. i also reset the Pram.
Now it works but it takes about 10 minutes to load my dock and allow me to click my mouse. I have since updated all my software and upgraded to 10.4.9 and the problem still persists. The system profiler tells me i still have 2.5gb of ram and all the disks is green and okay and the computer, once started, runs smoothly so why does it take so long to start up and how can i get it to run smooth again
G5, Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.9) Dual 2GHz PPC, Intel 2GHzYour drive is in need of major file system repairs.
You should have two backups. An emergency boot drive. 3rd party utility "Disk Warrior 4" to help. SuperDuper for backups.
Apple warns and it makes sense to not ever use an older OS version of a disk repair program - they won't be compatible with or know how to fix a newer OS.
I would do some deep cleaning of all the cache and temp files. That should be done anytime before you update the system.
You can also repair a drive from Single User Mode and running the *fsck -fy* command.
Applejack will repair a drive, permissions, delete caches and swap files, and test for corrupt preferences. (freeware - MacUpdate).
Onyx, Cocktail, Tiger Cache Cleaner are a couple utilities to help. But you should setup a new boot drive for now to do repairs from, and backup your data so that is current as well.
If you have backups, done the repairs, just trying to touch all the bases.
It is always a good idea to test RAM with Memtest - memory errors can lead to corrupt files and require a fresh clean install.
When you are sure you have backups and a working system, and cleaned things up, you might want to run the combo 10.4.9 update again. -
Hi,
During install and anytime i go to the blue config screen i get a
message "loading driver ata.bef" the system then sits there for 10
minutes (the time is the same each time) and then system comes up. I
have the same wait when booting directly to the OS, after i get the
option to ESC to the device change screen i need to wait 10 min.
afterwards the system comes up fine.
the system is HP dx2000 mt w/ a Ultra ATA/100 controller
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/12454-64287-89
301-321860-f50-401819.html
windows recognizes the controller 82801EB ultra ata and the drive as a
maxtor 6e040l0
the controller is recognized via prtdev as
Vendor,Device ID: 8086,24db Rev 2
Subsys. Vendor,Device: 14a4,2181
Class code: 01018a (Mass storage Controller, IDE
Controller
Model: 'PCI: 14a4,2181 - Bus Mastering IDE
controller'
Name: 'pci-ide'
[none of these number are in /boot/solaris/devicedb/master to teh best
of my knowledge]
on the blue device config screen it lists it as
pci: bus mastering ide controller
but when it asks me if i want to boot of a drive or cd it calls it -
target 0, wdc wd40 0bb-22hea1 on bus mastering ide controller on
board pci bus 0, at dev 31, F
dmesg brings up a message that "ata_set_feature: (0x66,0x0) failed"
but from what i read that is not a problem.
i do get a message <Vendor 'Gen-ATA ' Product 'WDC WD400BB-22HE'>
does GEN-ATA stand for generic ? is there a better driver for my card
I have also disabled from the bios acpi and the usb controller.

you could try if DiskWarrior can fix it.

Computer takes 20 minutes to boot.
My PC takes about 20 minutes to boot, and if it even does boot. It gets stuck at the BIOS start up with the MSI 8Xtreme Series Intel on the black screen, and just sits there.. Is there a way to move some jumpers and reset the BIOS to factory defaults, if that is even the problem. Please if anyone has ANY idea about how to take care of this, im willing to do anything, Im sitting here in college, neededing to write this paper, and my Laptop has a small screen compaired to my desktop. Thanks

PS. The PC dosnt even get past that part it seems... Please help!!Remove all the hardware (PCI cards, USB devices, HDDs, CDROMs etc..) and only keep the bare minimum yuo need (memory, CPU, VGA card).
Don't even connect a mouse and KB to it.
Does it work normally (give you a KB error message probably) ?
Try another KB if it seems ok (and make sure you plug it in the right place), don't overlook any detail in such cases. -

Having trouble booting up computer mountain lion
How slow? Make sure that you have your disk selected as the startup disk in System Preferences>Startup Disk.
There are a couple of other things you could try if this doesn't work...

My mac mini takes 5 minutes to boot up
I have had my Mac Mini for about a year now, have always run Mountain Lion on it, but in the last month it takes 5 minutes to boot up when I turn it on (turning on to the log in page). Everything else works fine. I have done Disk Utilities, and the permissions are all fine, I verified the disc and that is all fine. I have two other drives plugged into it, one 500GB USB for Time Machine and one 250GB firewire for data storage and my iTunes items. The Mac Mini is a 2.3GHz processor with 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM.
Any ideas please? 5 minutes is very slow for a computer to boot in 2013. Thanks.Open Console in Utilities, go to system.log, enter boot or BOOT_ in the filter field. Please post just the bootup sequence, no other messages, of those ~five minutes, from BOOT_TIME, or however it's worded until "setting hostname to "yourusername.local." If the time stamps, which we must see are not included, then post back without posting the log, since it will be useless.

Lenovo H420 Desktop takes over 5 mins to boot up
Hi,
We have a Lenovo H420 desktop that takes over 3 mins to boot up. After you switch it on, the monitor displays a black screen with 'Lenovo' in white writing and remains with this screen for minutes on end seemingly doing nothing (hard drive cannot be heard working and it's activity light doesn't flash). After about 3 minutes Windows 7 suddenly loads in a matter of seconds.
Any ideas what is wrong? Is this normal?
We've only had this computer for about 3 months and it has been doing it since we bought it. We reset the computer back to its factory settings but that hasn't changed anything. Bios doesn't seem to be accessible as no startup screen saying press del for setup etc shows.
Kaspersky and Malwarebytes doesn't show any nasties.
Thanks

I have recently upgraded to Mavericks and I am being subjected to additional password requests and the monitor take store ever to boot up. Approximately 5 mins which is way in excess of previous operating system.
You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
