Computer thinks flash drive is a CD?

When I insert my SanDisk USB flash drive into my computer, I get a message saying that I have inserted a CD. I know this is due to the fact that the flash drive came with the built in U3 software for Windows. Since this software can't work on a Mac, I was wondering if there's a way to erase the software so that the CD message doesn't appear whenever I insert the drive.

  • Transfer photos from computer to flash drive

I would like to transfer photos from computer to flash drive so I can view them on Smart TV. Only option on computer is to burn to CD or DVD.

I do not see any info on the Windows version or PC model, so here are generic instructions.
    1) assuming the flash drive is seen when opening "my computer" or "computer" double click on the flash drive - it should open another window showing what, if anything is on the flash drive.  Leaving that window open, now find the pictures you wish to copy or move and highlight them by clicking each one or a group (select more than one by holding the control key down while clicking in the photos)  Now right click on one of the selected photos and then pick "copy" or and then right click on the open flash drive windows, right click "paste"
    OR
left click and hold on one of the photos and drag the group highlighted into the open flash drive window, release the left click.

  • How to transfer to computer from flash drive?

I've installed the flash drive and it appears on Finder. I've been told that just need to select all and copy and paste. But I have no idea how to do that.Sorry for the novice question.

It sounds like your flash drive is formatted as NTFS? (A Mac can not write to these).
Plug it back in, highlight its desktop icon and press ⌘I.
Then look where the resulting window says Format.
Windows usually uses either FAT32, exFAT or NTFS. A Mac can only natively read and write the FAT variants.
If that is the case copy everything from the drive to a temporary location on your Mac and reformat the flash drive, (if you have any individual files over 4GB in size you'll need exFAT). Once formatted check with a PC that it's all good before deleting your temporary files.

  • New to the MacAir. Moved documents and photos from computer to flash drive.  How do I now move to Mac?  And how do I drag and drop?

New to the Mac and not finding manual helpful.  Did not want to move everything from my old computer so just put the phots and documents I wanted on a thumb drive but don't know how to now move them onto the computer.  Something talks of drag and drop but it won't move.
    thank you
    Jeanne

Understood, ... go into FINDER at top then PREFERENCES  then GENERAL tab
then check "hard disks" and "external disks"
THIS WILL PUT A HD ICON ON YOUR DESKTOP YOU CAN OPEN AND DRAG AND DROP FILES TO  (or from)
THEN  verify the format of your external HD
go to DISK UTILITY and verify what it says your HD is formatted as under the "ERASE" tab
HFS+ above is the "mac format" however do NOT erase / format the HD, since this will erase it.....UNLESS you want to do this
Format (erase) it in "mac osx Extended journaled"
AFTER THIS YOU CAN DRAG AND DROP FILES AS YOU LIKE

  • I need to transfer my music copied from CDs to my new computer. Can I do this without copying to a flash drive?

I have a combination of purchased and copied (from purchased CDs) of well over 1000 songs . I just got a new computer and want to transfer the music files to the new computer. Is there a "cloud" I can use instead of painstakingly copying from old computer to flash drive, etc.? I don't want to lose those songs when I purchase new songs and plug the IPod in to an existing device.

You can transfer the entire iTunes library over a home network.

  • How to sync files between flash drive .

I have a 4 gig flash drive and create files at school and on my iMac. I start the year off will all of my classes having separate folders with additonal folders to orginize such as a project name or homework and copy that folder "school work" to my flash drive so i have the same thing. But as the year goes on and I have more homework it is confusing to know which device the file is on (computer or flash) I do not want to use drop box or google docs or any other online service. The school does not allow that and I don' want it. Just the flash drive. On the pc I coded in visuel basic (08) a program that on the desktop when clicked on when launched there was 2 buttons. Copy flash drive contents to computer ( folder school work) and it added new content ( merge) rather than replacing whole folder with the whole flash drive. And vice versa with computer to flash drive. It worked but not efficiently. I know the Mac can do better. Can someone please tell me what to do? I would like it when the flash drive. (NOT JUST ANY FLASHDRIVE BUT THAT FLASDRIVE) is plugged in to sync and merge the data so they are iddentical. Using Automator or AppleScript. Please help any advice would be very much appreciated. Also. I have Last years data for school and some other files on there and want to start it fresh with nothing on it so i can create the folder school work.should i just delete all the files manually ( I have no problem doing that) or use disk utility? What is the advantage of disk utility and will It harm the flash drive in any way ( such as making it Mac os extend instead of fat32? I need it fat 32 for all the PCs at school. Thank you in advance

Here's a pretty thorough rundown on the options available: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revision_control
A very simple solution is to get a Dropbox account. Then you can keep the file(s) in your dropbox and have them available in class or at home. Remember to make a backup on a regular basis.

  • USB flash drive not recognized by computer. Have tried all options of which I can think.

Okay.  I have a Patriot S-Mini 32GB flash drive that my Windows 8.1 HP Slimline 400-434 is not recognizing. I believe it recognized it once, and has refused to do so since. My laptop (Windows 7 Toshiba) recognizes it just fine.
All other USB devices function perfectly on this computer. USB mouse/keyboard/USB Hub/Apple iPhone cable.
    1. I have tried unplugging all other USB devices before trying this one. FAIL
    2. I have gone to Device Management and the USB drive does not appear in the list. FAIL
    3. I have uninstalled the USB Root Hubs and restarted the computer. FAIL
    4. I have tried plugging the USB drive into the rear ports that plug directly into the motherboard. FAIL
    5. I have updated the drivers, and have been unable to find a BIOS update as the link on the HP website downloads and says that it is incompatible for my computer. FAIL
...so what the bloody gorram heck do I do now?
    This question was solved.

Okay, and in the most ridiculous way I have ever solved a technical problem...
The USB flash cannot be inserted ALL the way into the port. It has to be inserted slowly, so that the contacts line up.
I figured this out by trying to connect it into my USB hub and noticing that the red indicator light was going on and off as I inserted the USB drive, flickering on as I inserted it and then off once it was all the way in.
Weird. But hey. It works now.

  • Im trying to transfer photos from my ipad to a flash drive, via a windows computer. when i click upload from windows, a message says no photos available. Can anyone help me??

    I dong wrong?

If you have the iPad connected to the PC and think that you can simply copy the photos to the drive via the iPad without importing them to the computer first, you can't. Import them to the PC them copy them to the device.

  • I've gotten a kernel panic 4 times in a row while trying to reinstall lion osx from a flash drive to a reformatted hard drive.  How is this possible when there's "nothing" on my computer?

My SSD failed and I was instructed to reformat my hard drive and restore my files.  I erase my hard drive using Disk Utility and reinstalled Lion from a flash drive. While Lion is installing, I get a kernel panic.  That's happened now four times in a row and I'm befuddled because I don't have anything on my computer to conflict right?  Please help.

    eubiedoo wrote:
Do you think it's ram related?
No way to tell unless you test it.  Like I said kernel panics are usually hardware related.  Since your Macbook Pro is from the "2009" era, run the Hardware Test disc which you should already have - Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Apple Store diagnostic testings are FREE.  It's the repairs you are responsible for if out of warranty.

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?
