Computer turns off when mini display connector is plugged in
Every time I plug the mini display connector, my computer turns off and I have to restart it.
Any idea how to change that?
Thx
Yes, it's the mini display.... whatever its name is, from the apple store... and it used to not do that to my computer

Why does computer turn off when battery 40%?
Why does computer turn off when battery around 40%? I have tried replacing the battery.
Replacing as in "removed, re-installed", or "bought a new one"?
This is my display from "Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info > Power"
"Normal" means no issues.
I will stop now in case you have actually put in a *new* battery ... -
Computer turns off when importing CDs and converting files! HELP!
Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble importing music from CDs and converting files on my computer. The computer just turns off when I do these things and I'm really stuck as to why. Can anyone help?I just started having the same problem. I was able to import songs from 5 cds with no problem, but when I tried a few more my mac started shutting down about halfway through the import of the song. It doesn't matter how many songs I choose to import, it happens on the first one everytime. Did you find a fix for this?

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.

Macbook Air Immediately powers off when mini display to VGA cable plugged in.
I have a late 2010 MBA 11 inch. I am runnig OSX Snow Leopard, all software and firmware up to date as of 08/10/2011.
I am trying to use my mini display port to VGA cable to run an Optoma PK301 projector. Every time I plug in my mini display to VGA cable, the machine immediately powers off. No shutdown screen, no other warning signs, just instant black, as if the power was just immediately disconnected.
I have tried plugging in the cable while the projector is plugged in and with the projector unplugged. Either way the result is the same. I have been able to start the computer with the adapter plugged in and it will power on, however the projector will no pick up any signal from my MBA.
Anybody have any ideas on this? I have a genius bar appointment this afternoon. It is just frustrating because I am so used to everything "just working."
Any help is appreciated.

My computer turning off when plugging in my iphone??? Why..
Can anybody help me out here? My iphone completely turns off my computer does anybody have that problem and if so how do you fix it?
R/S
LuisMarine78,
Have you added any card to your computer, or replaced any hardware? What power supply do you have?
A PC may shut down when something draws additional power if either the USB port is not connected correctly, or if the power supply is already overloaded and trips its own circuit breaker.
If it is restarting, and not powering completely off, do you happen to have a Logitech Webcam installed or previously installed? If so go to Logitech's website and download the latest version of their software. Many Windows XP or Vista computers will automatically restart if they get a blue screen. You could be getting a blue screen because of a software conflict with another device. This is discussed in this knowledge base article:

Hope this helps,

Computer turns off when I plug Ipod Touch in
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Each time I plug my Ipod Touch into my computer and open iTunes it resets the whole computer. It will keep on doing this until I take my ipod out of the usb port. I tied plugging it into my other PC and accessing the few songs I have on there and it worked fine.
I'm not sure what's going on, Wether its my Ipod or if its my computer (both pc's by the way).
Any help will be much appreciated. You can start by turning off the caps lock.
You need to try a few things - reset your iPod and check on what is happening with the Apple Mobile Device Services on your computer.
If you don't know how to reset, click the Support tab at the top of the page and then click on Troubleshooting.
As to the AMDS problem, see this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567 -
4 year old PC turns off when new iPod Nano is plugged in
Hi,
I have an older PC running Windows XP. I just bought a new 8G iPod Nano. When I attempted to plug it in to my computer for the first time, the computer abruptly turned off (it did not go through the shut down process) and I was unable to turn it back on for several minutes. Now the compuet is back on and appears to be functioning normally. Can anyone help me with this problem? I have not yet tried to plug in the iPod again. Thanks.Livin Doll wrote:
I have the same problem and wondered if it was loosey goosey headphones which were just cheap 10 dollars buds. So are you saying I should get new ear phones that fit tighter?
That would be my guess....Here is what Apple has to say about the problem.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3700
My guess is that it is a compatibility problem with older or aftermarket ear buds. My daughter has a 6th generation Nano and does not have this problem but keep in mind she is using the ear buds that came with the 6th Generation Nano. With the replacement program they are not sending new ear buds. I just did a test with my daughters 6th Generation Nano using an old set of aftermarket ear buds I had in my desk and I was able to duplicate your issue. I then used the ear buds from my Iphone 4s and did not have an issue with the Nano going to sleep and the music turning off. -
Computer turns off when I connect my ipod
When i connect my 4th generation ipod to my windows xp computer, the pc shuts down and when i disconnect the ipod the pc automatically turns back on again. I cant charge the ipod either. Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how i can solve this issue?
Also, for a few days before that problem began, when i connected the ipod to the PC it said the usb device was not recognised.
Thanks in advancehmmmmm.
let's see if there's a blue screen lurking behind the display problem.
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
now plug the ipod in. do you get a blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:

Help!!! my computer turns off when i plug in my iphone
the second i plug in my iphone my computer displays a blue screen and says something about an error and it shut off that second. then when it restarts it says it again until i unplug the iphone and then windows says recovered from serious error or something like that any ideas the phone and the computer work perfectly
Do you have any other peripherals connected to the computer when you connect the iPhone. If so, disconnect them and try again.
Make sure you're connecting the USB cable correctly to the computer. I've seen a few instances where the USB pin on the computer was bent down and the USB cable was connected upside down.
This could also be caused by a damaged photo. If it's okay with you, you might try deleting the photos you've taken with your iPhone and then connect. If you don't want to lose the photos, you can email them to yourself. -
Shuffle turns off when non-apple headphones are plugged in
My 4th gen ipod shuffle only works with the standard apple headphones. When I plug any of my other headphones into the port, the shuffle shuts completely off and only turns back on when connected to the computer. Any suggestions on the problem or a solution?
Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons..
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

Computer wont start when 12V CPU connector is plugged in
Hello.
First of all, I'am from Norway so my english is perhaps not that impressive :P
I recently decided to upgrade my computer a bit and for now, these are the parts that are installed (only the nessecary parts for a startup is installed for now. Installing the rest as I see things are working) :
MSI PM8PM-V
Intel Core Duo 2 E6300
512 DDR2
120gb western digital
Geforce 6800 256MB
Now to the problem. On the motherboard there is a plug that is for (quote from the manual) "This 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU" so in my little world this is an important thing to have. The problem is that if this plug is used/connected the computer does not start at all. Nothing happens what so ever. However if the plug is not connected the computer starts and is running fine but the monitor is dark and it's acting like it's in sleepmode (the monitor-LED is yellow not green as it is when it's active). So in other words I'am not getting any further...Quote from: Eirik87 on 10-December-06, 00:53:31

both touchpad and mouse are active even though the touchpad is disabled
I am saying that the touch pad still is active/turned on/ works, even though it is disabled according to the menu screen that I reach through control panel. It works all the time, in any program I am using. My latest attempt is to delete the software (Alps vers. 7.1207.101.225) but I see that has not worked either. I'm a poor typist and need to watch the keyboard and my thumbs touch the pad and send the cursor and current words somewhere other than the line on which I am trying to write. Very frustrating.[

Yoga 13 Turns Off When Plugged In And Won't Charge
I've had my Lenovo Yoga 13 for about a year. When I plug in the laptop to charge it, it turns off and will not charge while it is off. The only way for me to turn it back on is to unplug the charger.
So I guess this is two issues in one: my computer turns off when it's plugged in and it will not charge. Do you guys think it could be caused by a bad charger or do you think it has to do with the computer? Has anyone had this happen to them?
Thanks! What happens is as soon as I plug in the charger the computer turns off. The battery does not charge while the charger is plugged in and I cannot turn my computer back on until I unplug the charger.
When I first noticed this behavior the battery was about 80% charged and I was able to turn the computer on and use it for multiple hours, so I don't think the battery stopped working. It wasn't until I plugged my computer in again when it was charged under 10% that I realized what had happened wasn't a one time thing; my computer turned off again. I waited about an hour before I unplugged the charger and turned my computer on again. The battery hadn't been charged at all that whole time.
