"Computer unauthorized" to use purchased songs

A recent computer crash coincided nicely with a recent iPod crash for me. Fortunately, I had all my music backed up, so I could load my iPod back up once I had transferred all the music from data CDs onto my new hard drive, but the music I had previously purchased from iTunes cannot be put back onto my iPod, or so iTunes tries to tell me every time I sync up my iPod. Furthermore, I recently purchsaed music from iTunes and it gave me the same message when I sync'd up the iPod- iTunes is not authorized to load the files onto the iPod from this particular computer.
If knowledge of the make/model of the iPod or the computer is relevant, I can tell, but I don't reckon it is.

See if this helps: "Authorizing or deauthorizing a computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/6.0/en/687.html

  • Unauthorized user for purchased songs

After upgrading to itunes 7 and updating my software, I keep being told to "authorize" my previously purchased songs. When I enter in my user ID and password, I get the message that says it was successful, but then when I go to play, I get the same message all over again. I tried to uninstall quicktime and have read other posts about downgrading back to older version of itunes (which I wouldn't mind doing). What will be the easiest thing to do so I can listen to this music again? Thanks,
    Sherri

Did you attempt to re-authorize? Any time you do something like an OS re-install, iTunes views this as a "new" computer & requires the system to be re-authorized. The down side to this is, if you didn't deauthorize as suggested before any majore repairs, including OS re-install, you will be using a 2nd authorization on the same computer.

  • Crashed Computer...Itunes purchased songs won't transfer?

I had to send in my laptop for service, in which they crash the computer. I had a library full of songs that I transferred to my Ipod shuffle. When I attempted to sync my shuffle with the newly re-downloaded Itunes, it said that I could not because it was attributed to another computer. It is this computer! The problem is that my computer was crashed. I purchased a song that will not transfer back to the computer. I don't know how to solve this and I feel that I am justified in having at least my purchased song available in the library. I should not have to repurchase it. I know that I burned the library of songs before I sent the computer in, how can I get them back onto the itunes library? Please help!

You probably still have all your songs on your Shuffle.
If this is the case, just rebuild your laptop library from there with any iPod to PC tool such as CopyTrans http://www.copytrans.net

  • Re-authorizing when using purchased songs in iMovie and iDVD

    Hi!
Since I upgraded to the lastest iTunes, I have to reauthorize every time I use a purchased song in an iMovie project (or iDVD). And, even as i reauthorize the song, the song is omitted from the project. I guess this is a major bug. Any news on a fix for this??
    Thanks!
    Thomas Engstedt

Hi Ken and welcome to Apple!
You should not have a major problem. The AVI files should (repeat should) be recognized by iMovie. If not, conversion should (I love the certainty of that word!) be easy.
An iMac will do all you ask, but I recommend not less that 1GB of RAM.
At this stage, go get your iMac, and try to import the AVI files into iMovie. If that is not successful post back!
Remember: iMovie expects to be 'fed' by digital video through a firewire connection.

  • Can't create ringtones using purchased songs in itunes...

I just got an iphone and I am trying to use several purchased songs to create ringtones. When I click on the bell a box comes up that says I have to verify the Terms of Service again, and that if I click OK I will be taken to the Terms of Service. When I click on OK nothing happens and I still cannot use the songs to make ringtones. I have tried clicking OK many times with the same result. I have also gone to the store site and looked at the Terms of Service but this does not seem to solve the problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Just purchased an iPhone tonight, but whenever I try to create a ringtone it asks me to go accept the terms of service, then does nothing after pressing OK. I'm logged into the music store successfully, so that's not it. So I'm stuck. Help! I should add that this is happening against a Mac.

  • Moved i-tunes to new computer, won't sync purchased songs?

I have recently moved my i-tunes library over to a new computer. When I go to update mt i-pod now it doesn't update any purchased music, even though these ar showing in my music library.
Someone please help as some of my most recent and favourite albumns won't update.

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes, or play back one of the purchased songs on your computer; in either case, provide the username and password associated with your iTunes Store account. This needs to be done before any purchased music can be synced from that computer to the iPod.

  • New computer, how to transfer purchased songs not on ipod?

we had to get a new computer because our old one crashed big time. luckily, i had backed up my itunes a few weeks before the big crash. but there were a few songs i purchases after backing up and never got around to updating my ipod with them. itunes has a purchase history -- is there anyway to put them back into my playlists if i haven't saved them but there's a record of my purchases?

Use the form on this page to request a free redownload, or use the Transfer Purchases feature if applicable. If neither of these works, you will need to purchase the content again to get them back; Apple needs to pay the copyright holders for each download from the iTunes Store other than podcasts, album artwork, and iPod touch/iPhone applications.

  • Cant use purchased songs in editing software

for some reason I cannot use songs purchased from itunes to add to videos I am editing (in Sony Vegas). Songs I get from my personal CD collection that I put in my itunes works great. Can anyone help?

Check what file formats Vegas will accept. Almost all programs will accept MP3. The iTunes Store does not sell MP3s.
If you have iTunes Plus AAC files that you purchased from the iTunes Store, you can use iTunes to convert them to MP3 format, by resetting your Import preference to MP3 and then using the command Advanced > Make MP3 Version.

  • Cant seem to authorize my computer to play a purchased song from itunes.

I purchased a song from itunes today and after it downloaded I was unable play it after being told my computer was not authorized to play the song. After going through the steps to "authorize the computer" I was told it is already authorized. Thinking I was then going to be able to play the song, I was once again being told that my comuter was not authorized. Can't figure out why or how to fix this problem. Help?!

I read in another thread that there was some bug with authorizations. An apparent solution is to try and download the free Single of the Week and play it. It's worth trying:

  • TS1389 What if I have done all the steps apple says, and I still can't authorize my computer to play certain purchased songs

I followed all the steps on the apple page, and just a few of the songs I just purchased cannot be authorized for some reason.  It keeps prompting me, and I keep entering my password and it says this computer is already authorized.  ARG!
Weirdly, when I look at the info of the songs, some list my name as "Purchased by", but the songs I can't play don't have a "Purchased By" line, but all songs show the correct "Account Name"

They were purchased by another Apple ID.
If you are not sure what other Apple IDs you may have, go to appleid.apple.com and click on the link that says "Find your Apple ID".
You are needing to authorize the Apple ID that those other songs were purchased under.

  • Authorise this Computer comes up for purchased songs despite authorisation

Everytime the playlist reaches a track that I've purchased through itunes the 'This computer is not authorised to play xxx' comes up and asks me to authorise it. Even though I do this the songs still won't play. This is a recent problem and not one that I've had before. It's the same computer that I've alwys had. How can I get it to accept my purchased tracks?

    Hello Maddy56,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I would start with this article.

Otherwise, try deauthorizing the computer, logging out of your account in the iTunes store and closing iTunes. Then open it back up, log back in, and reauthorize your computer.

  • Itunes copied my files from my portable harddrive to my new computer harddrive on a new computer. I didn't want that, but didn't realize I did it.  How do I fix this so I can delete the songs from my computer harddrive and use the songs from the portable

On my new computer I installed Itunes.  I wanted Itunes to use my portable harddrive for music, but instead it copied my library to the hard drive of my computer, filling it almost full.  I didn't realize this happened until I synced my iphone to Itunes.  How do I fix this?  I want to delete the library from my hard drive of my computer, and use the library from my portable hard drive.
