Computer useless now after trying to install tiger

I purchased an 02 powerbook g4 550mhz 512 ram 30gb hdd back when it was new anyways i had installed version 10.3.2 on it when that came out and now i have tiger version 10.4.2 and somehow my harddrive is completly erased and i get the message that says "this software cannot be installed on this computer." how did this happen and what can i do to fix it

The Powerbook G4 400 is supported by Tiger. Some other requirements are:
Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor
Built-in FireWire
DVD drive for installation
256MB of RAM
3GB of available hard disk space (4GB if you install the developer tools)
It is not possible to upgrade to Tiger from a previous OS, but as an option, you can archive and install. Thereby, retaining your software, files and user prefs. Here's the info link: http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/
How you lost access to your files, is probably related to your failed install. If your computer fullfills the minimum requirements for Tiger, I would retry the install. Once its up and running, Fix Disk Permissions as soon as possible to stablize.
Data Recovery is good software to extract data from a crashed disk or one that has been accidentally erased. Hopefully, you won't need it.
Good Luck

  • Computer shuts down when trying to install Tiger

I'm installing Tiger on several older G4's for my son's middle school and one of the machines a 500MHz AGP graphics, it shuts down whenever I try to run the install disk. It goes to the select main language part, and after that it shuts down.
    -the boot ROM is 4.2.8f1
-there's 6.7 GB of hard drive space left
-I did all of the updates on 10.2 bringing it up to 10.2.8
-I took out the SCSI card that was in it
-I realized it didn't have a battery in it so I took one out of the other machines that I had successfully installed Tiger on and it's still powering off.
    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks!
I did not check the batteries charge, but I had just installed Tiger sucessfully on the machine I borrowed the battery from, so I assumed that it should have been ok.
The machine had OS 9.2 on it, and I was able to install 10.3 without any problems, even with the battery gone.

  • Now What -- Trying To Install Tiger?

I am trying to install a newly purchased retail version of Tiger 10.4 onto a G4 Blue and White. The G4 is running OS 9.2.2. and has an internal (factory) cd-dvd drive.
When I load the Tiger iInstall disk, the G4 does not recognize (no icon) the Tiger Installer disk, and auto-ejects the Install disk and then opens in 9.2.2.
    I have:
    -Ample memory on the G4.
    -Zapped the PRAM.
-Tried loading the installer holding down the "C" key.
-Tried loading the installer disk holding down the "Option" key.
-Done every other thing recommended in the Tiger "Troubleshooting" guide that came with the Installer disk.
I'm flustered and out of ideas. Anything I'm missing?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

    Hi Jasurda,
first check if you have the most recent firmware installed: Mac OS X: Chart of Available Firmware Updates
Thne check your optical drive. Not all B&Ws shipped with Combo drives, in fact most configurations shipped with CD-drives only. You can get a CD version of Tiger here: Media Exchange Program

  • Error message after trying to install Tiger on a B/W G3

I've tried several times now to install OS 10.4 Tiger from the black install DVD onto my B/W G3. Every time, it gives me a error message saying there were errors during installation and to restart. I've got 512-640 MB of RAM (I've removed one after market 128 RAM hoping that would help). I upgraded the HD to a Maxtor 200GB a couple years ago. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. We just got new iPods and can't even load them until this OS is upgraded. Other than buying a new Mac, what can I do to resolve this issue?

I would, but I don't have it on CD. I finally got the drives switched and the drive was ready to be rebuilt when DW gave me an error message saying there was a file open on the HD. I've basically figured that it is beyond repair until I can get my files backed up and reformat the drive.
In the meantime, my brother is going to give me his iMac G5 and upgrade to a new Mac.
    Thanks for all the help.

  • After trying to install update on MacAir error message and then message saying panic (cpu caller 0xffffff800a859241): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".... I'm worried as all of my work is on my computer and I'm afraid I will lose it all.

I am totally worried I am going ot lose all my data after trying to install update on MacAir.  Cannot do anything error message saying panic ....."Unablet o find driver for this platform."

    Hi Guys
No good news I'm afraid. I have been through ALL the system caches and files that were updated at the time of said issue. Reset - rebuild and even gone back to my TimeMachine copy from earlier this AM. Nothing! Can only assume it is something deeper in the /usr or var or private folders.....
I have cloned the system and core files (/usr, /private) etc etc to an external HD and it still recreates the fault. I am afraid to say I have no more time at the minute to look at so have put my machine back to 2 hours prior via my TimeCapsule.
I the absense of anyone else or, indeed, Apple fixing in the next 12 hours, will get back onto it from the cloned copy I have kept and see if I can find the offending file/files...
Sorry I don't have an immedaite solution.

  • After trying to install 6500 Wireless all-in-one on my 3rd comp, it ceased to work

While trying to install my (less than 2 year old) HP6500 Wireless all-in-one software on my 3rd networked computer, the software installation went into a loop and would not complete the installation.  After about an hour or so of waiting, I physically had to unplug the printer & eject the CD. Upon doing so, the printer became next to useless. The printer key pad no longer functions except when I first plug it in, and I can no longer access it from the other 2 original computers, even with USB.  The HP solution center says it’s on line, until I go to print via USB, then it says it’s offline. I can hook the USB up on the Widows 7 unit and force it to print Word Office documents, but when I try to print documents on it from either Internet Explorer or Fire Fox it wants to send a Fax??? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software 3 times on my Windows 7 unit now to no avail. Is it my printer, the printer Firmware or what?  I have downloaded and run all the HP & Microsoft troubleshooting tools on the Windows 7 unit to no avail.  However; HP downloads will not successfully complete on my XP unit.  What should I do? Should I start over with a new wireless printer?
    Totally Confuzed

    Ref: 02-23-2012 08:53 AM
12:38 AM 2/24/2012 UPDATE ON WHAT I HAVE TRIED AGAIN:
    1. Power Reset on the Printer: Power off the printer. Unplug the power cable from the back of the unit. Wait 60 seconds. Replug the power cable to the printer and power it on. DONE
     2. Print a test page: Follow this document to print the test page. PRINTER SCREEN SAYS IT'S PRINTING AND THE POWER LIGHT IS FLASHING LIKE IT'S BUSY, BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING. ONLY WAY TO USE IT NOW IS TO UNPLUG IT AND START OVER. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME NOW. IT WILL NOT PRINT TEST REPORTS.
     3. Create a copy of the printed test page. CANNOT DO NOW - (PRINTER FREEZES UP WITH A BLINKING POWER LIGHT)
     4. Print the Wireless Network Test Report (To check if there are any errors) CANNOT DO
Press the Setup button ( ). DOESN'T WORK EXCEPT MOMENTARILY...NOT LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE A SELECTION BEFORE IT HANGS AND FREEZES UP...
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to select Network Setup, and then press the OK button. CAN'T GET IT TO DO ANYTHING PRESSING THE OK BUTTON.
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to select Wireless Network Test , and then press the OK button. The Wireless Network Test Report prints. CAN'T GET IT TO DO ANYTHING PRESSING THE OK BUTTON.
If you did not encounter any errors while performing the steps above then I think the hardware is OK. Test the software next. Let's use Windows 7 as the test platform. I DON'T THINK THE HARDWARE IS OK.
    1. Download the driver from HP.com. Once it gives you the option to either Run or Save make sure to select Save and then select Desktop as the target location where it will save the file. This is just to make it easier to find it. Once it finishes downloading the file, double click it to initiate the installation process. Follow the on screen instructions until you reach the "select how you want to connect the printer" window comes up. I ALREADY HAVE 3 COPIES ON MY DESKTOP & NONE OF THEM REACT ANY DIFFERENTLY.
     2. At the "select how you want to connect the printer" window select USB and then click Next (I think there is a next button). It should asks you to connect your printer but we are NOT going to do that. Place a checkmark on the option on the bottom of the window that gives you the option to bypass the connection phase of the installation. Click Next to proceed. Once the the installation process completes, restart your computer. I HAVE DONE IT BOTH WAYS BEFORE AND CANNOT GET THE INSTALLATION TO COMPLETE ON ANY OF THE 3 COMPUTERS NOW.
If you did not encounter any errors at this point then it looks like the software installation process is good. Proceed to the next test. END OF TEST FOR TONIGHT. THANKS
    1. After the computer completely boots up, connect the USB cable to the printer and to the computer. The computer should detect the printer and initiate the HP installation process for it. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the install.
    2. Try printing to test functionality.

  • Ipod won't work after trying to install Paid 2.0 update

I bought the 2.0 update for my 16 gig ipod touch. After trying to install the update through itunes half way through the update it gave me the message "The ipod could not be restored. An Unknown error occured (6)." I tried to do a restore on the ipod it it does the same thing. Can anyone help? Now after paying for an update I have an ipod that doesn't work at all.
I tried doing a restore using the old software on a different itunes library and get the same error message.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks Larry

ok i have figured out how to fix this problem!! it is simple. make a new account on your computer. Now use the itunes on that account and just plug ur touch in and restore it. It will restore it to the software 1.1.4 . now just go back to your main account on ur computer and plug ur touch in once again and it will restore it to its original settings and sync all your songs and videos and the rest.
I followed the above instructions. Let Itunes 7.7 set itself up on the new account and downloaded the update. The first attempt didnt work but the second attempt after I rebooted the PC I logged in on the new user and booted up Itunes.
When that had finished faffing about I connected the USB cable into another USB port (above the one its just come out of if you get my drift) and it started extracting the software for Restore then it started prparing the ipod for for restore and then started uploading the software to the ipod in which it had not done it before. As I type it has just finished synching the ipod with my current Itunes library on my default windows account.
I am running the update but will have to enter my contacts details again but hey thats no big deal.
So I hope you all get yours to work.
    Cheers

  • Mac won't power up after trying Leopard install.  Black screen of death.

After trying to install an upgrade from Tiger, the installer said that if I wanted to continue, it would install a new volume and erase all my data. That sounded bad, so I hit cancel and chose quit installer from the menu bar. My mac asked which OS I wanted to use to restart my computer, and naturally I chose Tiger, not Leopard. My mac tried to restart and I got the apple logo and the little wheel spinning and then...off. Shut Down. Happens every time I hit the power button. Logo, wheel, off. I was on the phone with apple support for 2 hours and they sent me to a store finally. There they said it was a problem with file corruption on my computer. Not Leopard. They said they were having no problems with Leopard except for people trying to install it on an older model and similar issues. HELP!

    This doesn't sound good at all . . .
Did the Apple store test your power supply? It would be good
to know that the basic hardware functions properly.
And did you try booting from your Tiger install DVD? Assuming
you can get this far, run Disk Utility from the DVD and check the
disk - if it finds bad stuff on your disk, and can't fix it, you
probably do have a corrupted disk. The only solution may be to
reformat the disk - hope you had a backup copy . . .
A big guess on my part is this happened when you hit Cancel on
    the install.
If you have Apple Care (and everyone with a laptop should have
it), take it to the store, and let them fix it. You'll have a
nice, clean 10.4.10 on it (or Leopard if you want), and you can
    start over . . . :^(
    Good luck . . .

MacBook Pro won't boot after trying to install 10.7.3 update. Start up stalls at Apple logo and spinning gear. Computer won't even start in safe mode.

My daughter's MacBook Pro was doing exactly the same thing.  I don't know if it had anything to do with the latest update.  She called me about a week ago saying that her MacBook began running slower by the day .  She then called me Friday and told me that it wouldn't get past the gray screen and the gear just kept on spinning.  I did everything I could over the phone including Safe mode which it wouldn't go into and thought maybe it was the hard drive.  She took it to the Apple store.  Originally, they also thought it was the hard drive.  It ended up being a corrupted operating system (Lion).  Apple genius simply re-installed Lion and she's back up and running.  Good thing she backed up right before it crapped out.  She'll be restoring everything tonight.  Don't know if re-installing Lion will help your situation, but it did the trick for my daughter.

  • ITunes is giving me a runtime error and won't load after trying to install update

    Hello Scottee2hottee,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel

  • No sound after trying to install audio unit

After trying to install M-Tron and failing, G Media instructed me to dump M-Tron and start over. Now I have no sound at all from Garageband. Any suggestions? Do I need to reload Garageband and if so, how? it came w/the iMac.

Software inst., previous soundfiles, loops. The volume indicator shows a good strong signal playing. It is just not making it to the speakers which are working when I play something on iTunes. Garageband was playing fine a couple of days ago so I'm thinking is that it is a Garageband problem possibly caused by my problems with loading M-Tron.

  • Myriad of issues since trying to install Tiger with a defective disc.

Some time ago I tried to install Tiger and got the messge the disc was damaged. I went back to Apple and they tried to install their copy and in the process my iPhoto got all fouled up. They recovered the library (somewhat) and we decided not to install Tiger until I backed up my machine. Some time later I brought my external drive in and we backed up the user and then tried to rebuild the iPhoto library. By the time I had to leave, my iPhoto was still showing white thumbnails on 30% of my library. I tried to rebuild it yesterday and like the previous time, iPhoto quite unexpectedly. See my posted question at iPhoto4 - Tried rebuilding iPhoto library twice, both time iPhoto "unexpectedly quit"
Just got back from the Apple store and their solution to the iPhoto issue agreed with Brie Fly's post of:
Move the two recent rebuild attempts from Pictures to the trash. Temporarily move your original iPhoto Library folder to the desktop. Start iPhoto and choose "Create New..." from the dialog. Quit iPhoto.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder from the desktop, and drop it inside the newly created iPhoto Library folder in Pictures (put it inside; don't replace).
Now start iPhoto again while holding the shift+option keys to try another rebuild.
The Genius folks at the Apple store suggested that I also Archive and Install to see if I have a corrupt user file. I decided to back up my user first and this is where I got....
Dragged user to desktop icon of external drive, while it was "preparing to copy" it stopped with the message:
"One or more items have special permissions and cannot be copied. Do you want to skip them?" I'd expect one of the choices to be "Yes" but curiously the two choices were "Stop" and "Replace". (symantics!) I chose "Replace" and almost immediately I got the message:
"The operation cannot be completed because the item "Installer" is locked." I then click the only button offered, "Ok was the only choice to click upon doing so the operation is ceased.
I didn't know the Installer could be locked, how it became that way nor how to unlock it!

Wow, has this stumped the experts?

  • Itunes wont open after trying to install 11.1.4??

iTunes will not open after trying to install 11.1.4 version ??

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
