Computer w/ iPod's synced iTunes Library DESTROYED

I bought iPod 160GB in 2008 - the computer with which my original iTunes library was synced with this iPod was destroyed via catostrophic water damage (caused by burst water sprinkler pipe in 1/09).  No backup of the computer or iTunes library had been made.  I have about about 900 songs on this iPod including $100 I purchased via the destroyed computer's iTunes library, the rest from my CDs.  My new computer has a new iTunes library with a book I downloaded & purchased through this new iTunes.  Please tell me how to put this book on the original iPod WITHOUT losing anything that is currently on the iPod.

You'll need to copy everything on the iPod back to your iTunes library first before you can sync anything new to the iPod, since an iPod can only sync with one iTunes library at a time.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with this task.

Once you have done that, you can go ahead and erase your iPod and then configure everything to sync back over to it.

  • My computer crashed that had all my songs on it - why cant I add the songs from my ipod to my itunes library?

I would like to add all the music that is on my ipod to my itunes library - for some reason the backup itunes library I have does not have all the music on it and I do not know how to get the songs from my ipod to the itunes library - I do not want to sync the ipod with the current itunes as this would wipe out all the music I have on my ipod.  please help me to get this music back on my computer or in the itunes library.

One option is to use iTunesFS and extract songs from your iPod.

My husband and I use the same home computer. He has his ITunes library that links to his Ipod. I have my ITunes library that links to my Ipod. How can we share songs between our libraries? (Windows - Vista)

    No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync.

    You can't do that.
And before you decide to store any music that you own on a computer at work, talk to your IT department. Many organizations do not permit it for legal reasons. Standard policies are that anything stored on company owned computers is the property of the company. It could not be legally stored on their machines unless you transfer the licenses and all copies, physical and digital, to the company, meaning you no longer own the music. If they were to be audited and could not prove that they own the music, they would be subject to copyright violation penalties. Just use your iPod when you're at the office if you want to listen to music.

That's a bummer, didn't realize the exHD files were corrupt, esp if you have tried from another PC and not just this new computer.
You can get purchases from the itunes store transferred from an iPod using these directions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_US
If you want everything (meaning non-itunes songs, app data, photos, etc) you need to buy a 3rd-party ipod manager that support iTouch. Here is an iLounge article to start your research:

  • I have an old iPod, first generation. I want to play a friend's music thru my Bose radio. I've emptied my iPod to my itunes library to allow space on the iPod. Question is: Can my friend put his music on a flash drive and somehow transfer to my computer.

I have an old iPod. First generation. I want to play a friend's music thru my Bose radio at an upcoming party.   (already use my Pod w/the radio). Ive emptied my iPod to my itunes library to make more room for additional music.
Question: Can I somehow download my friend's playlist - which is on a flashdrive, transfer it to my itunes and then transfer to the iPod??

If the Apple Store Genuis says you can't sync music from an audio CD to your iPod (because it's too old), he or she is not much of a "genius."
That question is not even related to your iPod.  First step is to "rip" the music CD into your iTunes library.  Once the songs on the CD are in your iTunes library, they are like any other songs in your library, and you can sync them to your iPod as desired.  This article seems to do a good job of describing how to rip CDs
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1156861/howto_rip_cds.html
NOTE:  When you insert a music CD, it appears in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  If you do not see the sidebar (along left side of window), from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
It was the context of your original question, not the actual task.  You can easily add songs files that are on a flash drive to your iTunes library.  Open a window that shows the flash drive contents.  Drag the song files from that window to the iTunes window, and drop them on your iTunes Music library.  Or, use the command
iTunes menu bar -> File -> Add to Library...
NOTE:  Open your iTunes preferences, Advanced tab.  If the checkbox for Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library is NOT checked, those songs from the flash drive will only be accessible (for playing and syncing) when the flash drive is connected.

  • How do I transfer music and stuff from my ipod onto my itunes library on my new laptop?

I got a new laptop and i plugged my ipod in and everything was okay but the music that is on my ipod is not in my itunes library it is just in the drop down music menu when my ipod is plugged up to my laptop. So, i hit sync and it said either transfer purchases or erase and sync.well i definitely do not want to erase the 500 songs i have on my ipod so i hit transfer and it said that it was unable to transfer because my ipod is not authorized with the computer. so i hit authorize and it asks me to log in and so when i type in my email and password and then hit authorize it just takes me back to the login screen with a really weird random email in and no password. I tried doing this many and just takes me back to the same page. I need to know how to get my music from my ipod onto my itunes library without losing any music. Please and thank you for any help that you can offer.

If you have an iPod Touch, as suggested by your profile, I suggest you create a thread in the iPod Touch forum. You have posted in the iPod Classic forum.

  • How do I transfer music from my iPod to my iTunes library?

I have a new laptop that I just downloaded iTunes on. I plugged in my iPod but can't sync it without deleting everything.
When I first got my iPod I never made an iTunes account because I just used tons of CDs to make my library.
Now I have an iTunes account but I don't know how to transfer my music to the library without just starting over and relying on lots of CDs I don't want to dig up.
    Any help?? Thank you!

If you still have the computer with your original library these are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
As above there are free tools out there...

  • Music on Ipod, Not In Itunes Library!

Hi, PLEASE can somebody help me, I am going crazy with this. I recently got a new Vista machine and had to throw my old machine out, I was silly and didn't back up my itunes. So what I am wanting to do is get all the music off my ipod into my itunes LIBRARY, I can see my music on itunes when i plug my ipod in, but can't get it to sync to my itunes library. Any ideas/suggestions would be soooooooooo greatfully recieved. Thank you soo much.

To get the music from the ipod back to the computer it would require a 3rd party program and would suggest you did a search through goggle for ( iLounge) This will have your answer/resolution.
(Note: This is not apple software and can not be supported by apple)

  • 2 Video Ipods Sharing One Itunes Library ?

OK I have the 30 Gig 5th Gen Ipod and I love it. Now I want to swap my Zune for a friends 30 Gig 5th Gen Ipod. That would leave me with 2, 30 GB Ipods. My question is how do I use 2 Ipods with one Itunes Library & account? I'm probably going to want one Ipod to just Automatically update to the Library and the other I will just pick & choose manually, if I can. Is this possible ? I know I have to name the new Ipod a different name. I hate the Zune software so I'm giving up on it and having 2 Ipods instead. I also have the IM7 Altec Boom Box and an Ipod adaotor installed in my car. Thanks in advance.

There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.
