Computer wiped...Can I get my library back?

As the title states, my computers OS must've gotten a virus or something like that, because whenever i would log on to any username, the computer would immediatly dump the memory to the physical disk, and restart. So I was forced to reinstall my OS, losing all the files I had, without a chance to save/back any of them up. And on top of all of that, my iTunes username had been terminated about two weeks ago, due to problems with the debit card and my bank. So now, I have about 1000 songs on my iPod, 200 of which were bought from the iTunes store, and 800 from various CD's I rented/borrowed, and I can't get any of them onto my computer. Is there any way for me to add them, or am I stuck? All help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

You should be saving/backing up on a weekly basis. If you wait until you need to do it, it's too late.

You only purchase 20% of your music?
What if you only got paid 20% of what you expected at your job?

    Hello there, Capricious13.
There are great pointers in the following Knowledge Base article. Depending on where you see the content and where you want to get it to, this should guide you to putting it in the right place:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Even if you don't have such a device there are links in the article that will show how to recover your purchases.
In addition, the laptop may have drowned but the hard drive is probably fine. You should be able to find someone who can extract the drive from the laptop and recover your personal data from it.

  • Transferring files over from the hard drive of a previous computer. How can I get my library back?

A couple weeks ago, my old, old laptop finally breathed its last breath and shut off suddenly while I was using it. Various parts of it were broken anyway so I got a new one rather than try to figure out what was wrong with it. All of my files were totally undamaged since it wasn't a hard drive issue, so I just got one of those enclosure things where you unscrew your old hard drive, stick it into the enclosure, plug it into your new computer with a USB cord, and then can drag all your old files onto the new computer.
I could get all my old music back this way by dragging those folders, but if I want to get my library back -- specifically, my playlists, and ideally my info on play counts/date added/etc -- is there a way that I can do that? Is there some "Library" file, series of files, or folder that I can drag onto my new laptop in order to get those things back without having to recreate all my playlists and lose my play info?
Have been running Windows 7 on both my old and current laptop, and was using iTunes version 10.7.0.21, if that information is necessary. Can give you whatever other info you'd need. Thanks!

    1. By default, it will be in the same folder as the iTunes Music or iTunes Media folder. If you don't find it, search the computer for items with that name.
    2. Wherever you want.

  • I can't get my library back

so basically what happened is that my dad restored our computer, manually, and when he did he took iTunes off. Which also deleted my LIbrary, and some of my buddies were fooling around on my iPad, disabled it.
The most typical way of transfering your library from one computer to another is using your ipod, ipad, iphone, or whatever to transfer the music.
Well i got a new laptop and i had to totally restore my ipad to even get it to work. because my buddys disabled it. so i cant get my library back.
    any help?

Sorry, but except in the US (probably due to license issues yet to be worked out in other countries) officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications and iBooks. It's your responsibility to make backup copies (as iTunes itself advises) in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places.
For apps, look here for instructions on redownloading.  For songs, movies, and videos, if your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of your purchased items, either on external media or another computer and don't have them on an iOS device (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad), you may be out of luck and will need to repurchase your content.
If you have your content backed up, post back and someone here can help you get them restored. Otherwise you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service (select the "Music Purchases" or "Video Purchases" category, as appropriate, then "Lost or Missing Items". You'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form - or an "Email Us" button) ") and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.
    Regards.

  • I have a new computer, how can I get my library from my IPod

Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • My hard drive crashed and I lost everything. No backup.  Does Itunes backup to a server?  Can I get my library back?  If so how?

My hard cdrive crashed and I lost everything.  No Music library back up.   Does Itunes have my music on their Server?  If so how can I get it back?

You can re-download everything you already bought, if you remember what it was, and you won't have to pay again. This assumes the music you purchased is still available for download.
Other than iCloud backup, which does not store your non-iTunes purchased music anyway, that is all there is.
From iCloud: Backup and restore overview:
The following items are not backed up to iCloud. You can sync these items with a computer using iTunes:

  • HT1727 My laptop was stolen and now I can't get my library back.

My laptop was stolen six months ago, and I just reinstalled iTunes on a new PC.  I tried to login with my original username and password and got an error message, so I had to change my username and password.  Now when I login, my libraries are empty.  How can I get them back?  Thanks.

Of course they are empty.  Logging into iTunes has NEVER caused content to magically appear.
Use the backup of your computer to put everything back.
If your backup was also stolen, or for some foolish reason you never created a backup, it is possible to download past iTunes purchases.

  • I have lost my iTunes library. How can I get my library back?

My iTunes library was stored on an external hard drive. Given that the MTBF of these drives is probably measured in months, I realize this was a bad decision on my part; nonetheless, it happened. How to I get my library returned to me?

What happened? The drive failed? If you do not have the music backed up some where else, and the drive cannot be accessed there isn't anything for you to do. You'll simply have to re-download what purchased music is available from iTunes and/or re-rip any CDs.

I have lost my library due to a computer crash. I no longer have iPod. Please help me get my apps and music back to mew com
    puter

As long as the apps (and the same applies to ibooks) are still available in the store and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free - and, depending on what country that you are in, you might also be able to re-download music and TV show purchases (and if you are in the US then some/all films) : re-downloading past purchases.

  • Computer crashed, and had to reinstall OS, i thought i had library on disc, but not. how can i get my library back. it was not on my i-pod when the computer crashed.

  • Computer crashed; can I get my music back?

My computer recently crashed, I got it fixed, but my iTunes music was gone. Is there anyway i can get my purchased items back?
    Windows   Windows XP

You can restore your music from any back up that you made? If you didn't back them up, the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."
iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • MY LAPTOP CRASHED BUT MY LIBRARY IS ON MY HOME PC HOW CAN I GET THE LIBRARY BACK TO MY LAPTOP WITHOUT ERASING THE SONGS I REPURCHASED

HOW CAN I MOVE LIBRARY FROM ONE PC TO MY LAPTOP WITHOUT ERASING REPURCHASED SONGS ON MY LAPTOP

I had the similar problem last night and found a solution (although it takes more than a few clicks).  Highlight all the album tracks in itunes on the pc and right click "get info". Check the artwork box in this window.  I found that the now playing art was showing up in the itunes window, but on songs that were missing artwork showed nothing in the get info box.  When I replaced the artwork by using the artwork command, or manually adding it into the "get info" window.  It was annoying but my iphone updated every album.
