Computer won't boot - can't even make it to chime sound

Hey everyone,
So I left my computer on overnight plugged into my power adapter and I wake up this morning to find it turned off. Didn't know what had caused it but I wasn't too concerned and tried booting it up like normal. Once I did this it gave me the gray screen it normally does at boot without the chime sound and shuts down after about 2-3 seconds no matter how many times I try to boot. I've done a PRAM reset which gave me the chime but once it started booting it does the same thing and shuts down after a couple seconds. And with all of this, the LED on the bottom never turns on. My battery is at full charge and I have it plugged into power. Any ideas? I appreciate any help
Justin

Hi, I had the same issue... The fans seems to be turning but no power going through the screen, no startup sound... I saw many threads telling that there is a recall for Mac Book Pros with the 8600 Nvidia chipset... I took my Mac to the reseller here in Mtius... they say I'm not eligible for a replacement because they need to run a diagnostic on the Mac to get a serial and then check the eligibility of that serial.
The fact that my Mac Book Pro wont boot is considered as another problem for them/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Now I'm dead.. it was such a huge investment and they're charging me 1052 dollars to fix it by replacing the logic board/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Thats' unacceptable/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png

  • Computer won't boot, can't repair disk

    Hi all,
Last night my husband was converting a video using isquint so that he could burn it to dvd later. It was late so he went to bed while it was still converting, not realizing that it was running on battery power rather than being plugged in. This morning of course, the computer had shut off, so I plugged it in and tried to reboot. Instead, i got a blank screen for a while, and eventually the dreaded folder with question mark.
I tried booting from the install cd, which didn't work for many MANY attempts, but finally did. I ran disk utility and saw that the volume was not mounted. I tried to mount it but it said it needed to be repaired. I have tried many times now to do so, but i keep getting an error message that says
"1 volume could not be repaired because of an error"
Could this problem be caused by the computer shutting down the way it did? Also, is there anything else I can do, or would you say this hard drive is pretty much a goner? My macbook is only 3 months old, so it's still under warranty; How do I go about getting a new drive?
    thanks everyone.

small update: i was finally able to mount the disk (after erasing it... bye bye un-backed-up data), and now i'm reinstalling os x. Of course i was able to get this far earlier in the day and it got through disc 1 and then told me there was an error and i was back to the start, so i'm not getting my hopes up yet. Fingers firmly crossed.

  • Computer won't boot up after installing SIIG card

    Hey Everyone,
I having problems with my SIIG FireWire 2-Port PCIe DV card that I've installed into my PowerMac G5 Quad. With the card installed the computer will not boot up, which is the same thing that happened with my previous two models of the card. I installed a new card yesterday and it worked fine all day, but after shutting the computer down for the night and then restarting it in the morning I am experiencing the same problems. The light on the front of the computer turns on, but the screen does not, and after about a minute a loud fan noise comes one. I have the card installed in Slot 2. In Slot 1 I have a ProTools HD card and in Slot 3 I have an AJA Kona LHE card. Even with all of the cards removed the computer still does not boot up. Anyone seen this problem before? Any help or information anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerMac G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi, I had the same problem with my dual core G5.
I installed the card and my computer won't boot up. The screen stays gray and the fan keeps spinning.
I contacted SIIG and they said the card is defective, which, I doubt it is.
I then returned it for a refund.

  • Mac Pro won't boot up, not even in safe mode.

Problem: Mac Pro having severe lag issues. Added more ram, removed Kona3, etc., nothing. Tried repairing with disc warrior but unable to repair startup disc unless booted from disc warrior disc. Won't boot up from disc warrior disc so set startup disc to the disc warrior disc. Now comp won't boot up, not even from safe mode. Any suggestions?

Boot from your OS X install DVD.
You always need to have a 2nd backup you can boot from, or an emergency (only) boot drive.
Disk Warrior does not have 10.5.2+.
If you can't do anything, zap pram, see if that helps. Or pull your drives and boot from your DVD. Setup OS X on a FW drive.
And of course, always always have at least two backup sets of your system; and sets of your data - so one set at least is always off line.

  • Computer won't boot if the GTX 970 is plugged in

    Hello everyone,
I just recently bought and assembled a new computer, however, the computer won't boot when the gpu is plugged in.
The motherboard I got is a MSI Z97I Gaming AC and the GPU is a MSI GeForce GTX 970.
When the GPU isn't plugged in the mobo, everything boots up fine and I was able to check with the bios that every other elements of the computer where recognized fine. When I plug in the GPU however, the system won't boot. The fans of the case, the mobo AND the GPU's are working and the GPU's leds also on, so it shouldn't be a PSU issue (I use a 750W PSU so that should cover it). However, no boot at all.
I don't really feel like trying to plug the GPU in another computer if it's just some compatibility issue or whatnot that you may be aware of. Maybe the bios doesn't recognise it ? The version is e7920IMS V1.0, I wasn't really able to find any kind of information regarding the latest versions online.
    Thank you,
    Yann

Here it is, follow the below to update to 1.4:
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_me10_mb.zip

  • If usb is plugged the computer won't boot

Hi there. I have recently started to experience a new type of problem. I have two usb hdds connected to a usb hub. I've never had any problems with it(the hub). After I installed the last update 10.7.3 everytime I restart my computer if I have the hub (with all my hdds and other devices) connected to my computer, the computer won't boot. It get up to the white screen (before the loading wheel). If I unplug the usb cable it starts booting inmediately.
The funny thing is I didn't change anything lately. It started to do this yesterday.
    Thanks

Is the hub powered? If not that is probably your problem. The hd's are sucking power but can't get enough to power up and that is probably stopping the MBP from booting.

  • Computer won't boot after installing MFP M127FW

My computer won't boot to my hard drive after installing my new MFP M127FW printer unless I first unplug the USB cable from the printer and then turn on the computer.  My BIOS is set to boot from my hard drive, not from a USB drive, so what did the installation of the MFP M127FW drivers and software do to my computer?  I assume this has something to do with the Smart Install feature.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi @frcraig ,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the computer booting up when the printer is connected by the USB cable.
I would like to help you out with this issue today.
Most likely it is the Smart Install on the printer causing this. The printer looks like a disk drive.
On the printer, touch Setup, Service, Smart Install and turn it off.
If you are still having issues, in the system BIOS, disable the Boot from USB device option and the USB Legacy Support option. Doing this will allow the PC to complete the boot process to the internal hard drive and allow you to enter Windows. If this does not work for any reason, you should boot your PC before connecting the USB drive. Once the computer is fully booted into Windows, connect the USB drive and wait for the operating system to detect the drive.
Important: Do not disable the USB Legacy Support if you are using a USB Keyboard. Doing so will prevent you from being able to use the keyboard during the booting sequence.
What kind of computer do you have?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!

The phone is stuck in this mode because it needs to contact ATT's activation servers when you plug it into itunes. There is most likely a connection issue Firewall/Antivir software blocking certain connections/ports.
Common AV/Firewall programs that cause this issue: Norton, Mcafee, Zone Alarm, and CA (computer associates).
Unfortunately you cant fully "disable" these programs so its a matter of knowing how to configure them or remove them completely using their respective removal tools.
Otherwise, bring the phone to an Apple Retail Store or ATT store to have them activate it for you.
    Hope that helps.

  • Hi my mid 2012 MacBook air simply refuses to start. My charger is working which is a good sign but even in safe mode my computer won't boot up! I recently installed a product called WhatSizeMac.

As said above I just installed what size Mac and now my computer won't start. As soon as I downloaded it my computer was a little glitch but regarded it as nothing. my computer was later really buggy so I decided to restart it. My computer now will not restart/turn on no matter if it is in safe mode or not. In safe mode it gets around a third of the way and then the progress bar disappeared then the gear remains for a second then the screen goes black then that is it. By the way I have OS X Maverick's .1 or.2, maybe .3 but I doubt it. PS if you can tell me a legit application that will declutter all this space I seemed to have used, yet have no idea HOW! Thanks.

Computer won't start. sounds like it makes an attempt at accessing a hard drive. but then just goes to sleep. no start up noise. no displays come on.

Resetting SMC could solve the problem.

  • Computer Won't Boot Up

Here is my issue, my computer one day was working fine and the next it won't boot properly.
    System Specs: Satellite T235D-S1345RD (Laptop) - Windows 7 (64bit) - BIOS 1.7 - 4gb RAM -
I have gotten the computer booted one time. I am unsure why it did that time but did not do it another time.
Since that one time I put the computer in hibernate and when I tried to bring it out it told me it failed when coming out of hibernate so it went to reboot and now won't boot.
Here are the few steps I have done to try and get it working.  When it boots up it gives me an error message (says that power failed or for some reason it did not boot)
I have ran "Repair Computer" and it does not do anything.  I try start windows normally and it goes no where.
So I then tried F8 and got into the Advanced Boot Menu. First one I tried was Start Windows From Last Known Good Configuration. (or something like that I forget the exact wording)
When it does that the computer will start to boot up go to the "Windows Loading" screen and then it flashes a blue screen (there are words there but it flashes so quickly I cannot read it) and it goes back to the boot screen and acts like it is restarting and continues in that loop.
Next step - Enter F8 again tried "Repair Computer" and it loads to a black screen with a Cursor but nothing ever happens. I have given it over 30 min and nothing happens.
So next step- I enter F8 again and try to boot up in safe mode and again when it loads it flashes a blue screen and then nothing.
EDIT - I found how to show the blue screen. It says UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. Not sure what else I should do after I get that error message. Message Reads:
It reads UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and says if it's the first time I've seen the error screen, to restart the computer. Then it tells me if it appears again, to check and make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
"If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode."
    END EDIT
Next Step: I come to you guys here on this forum. I am a bit perplexed and lost at what to do. I wonder if this is a virus but I cannot get the computer to respond to try to get  into it to check.
Ideas? Advice? What should I try? I can get into the F8 menu but not sure what else I should try. I will try anything to get this computer up and running!
Thanks for any and all help.

    Hi:
The 24 character failure ID usually indicates HDD is failing/has failed. You need to replace it with a new one.
    Specs: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5191856/model/5...
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099531
    Check warranty: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/weInput?cc=us&lc=en
    Order recovery USB: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c13cl-Entertainment-Notebook-PC/5191856/model/5...
    Contact HP: https://support.hp.com/in-en/contact-hp/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c00-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-serie...
If you're under warranty, HP would send you replacement HDD.
If you're not, buy any branded 2.5" SATA 9.5mm thick internal laptop HDD and replace it yourself. But HDD of at least same capacity HDD as the one that came with your laptop (640gb) so that recovery media would work -
Go through page 56-58 in the Manual for replacement procedure. It's quite simple DIY job.
    Something like this:
    http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16822236561
If you've not yet created the Recovery media to restore the factory settings after replacement, you have to order a set of Recovery USB from HP.
For salvaging the data from old HDD, I suggest you take out the drive. Connect it to another PC using SATA to USB adapter - copy all the files you need.

  • Computer won't boot up!  Please help.

How's it going guys, I have a powerbook G4 that I have owned for a few years now. I woke up this morning to my computer making a weird processor noise, it was a repetitive noise, and my screen was frozen. I thought my computer had frozen or something. I did a hard shut down on my laptop and my computer will not boot up mac osx. It stays Stuck on the Apple page. I've tried taking the battery out, i've tried new ram, and i've tried restarting it several times, and to no avail has my computer booted back up. I have the mac osx disc and that won't even load up. Can anyone please help me out. I'm in dying need of my laptop! Thanks! - Brian

When I try and repair the disk it reads the 74.5 GB TOSHIBA MK8025GAS Harddrive but It doesn't read the HD drive right under it. I click on the toshiba disk and i tried repairing it and it gave me an error message. The message reads : "First Aid Failed. Disk utility stopped repairing HD because the following error was encountered. The underlying task reported failure exit."
The actual disk utility window reads "Invalid node structure" in red letters. "The volume HD could not be repaired : Error : The underlying task reported failure on exit. 1 HFS volume checked : 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error. Repair attempted on volume 1, 1 volume could not be repaired.
Any suggestions? And how do i go about doing an archive install? And how do i go about using diskwarrior? Thanks guys. I really appreciate this. I need this computer up and running for school. I'm actually at my college library typing this out. - Brian
