Computer won't boot first time after being powered down.

I just had my motherboard seviced because I needed the BIOS reprogrammed and MSI sent me a different board.  If my computer sits in the off position for awhile....  Upon power up, the computer will freeze at the logo screen.  If I push the reset button, it will boot up just fine.  I have not tried to disable the logo screen, but does anyone have any ideas?  Overall, I have not been happy with MSI or my 3rd "platinum" board.

Well, I did not have the problem before they sent me a different board and my PSU is definitely not the problem.

  • Computer won't boot at all after 10.5.7 update

After installing the 10.5.7 update, and having it hang on the blue screen (as plenty of others did), my mini will not boot past the grey apple logo screen.
I have tried rebooting several times as this seemed to help some others, as well as holding down the Shift key to boot in safe mode, all to no avail.
I inserted the OS X install disk, and ran disk and permissions repair multiple times, also to no avail.
What should I do to get OS X up and running again?
    Cheers.

Thanks for the tip. I posted a new question under "deciphering panic log" as well. Here's what I found:

  • Computer won't boot after installing MFP M127FW

My computer won't boot to my hard drive after installing my new MFP M127FW printer unless I first unplug the USB cable from the printer and then turn on the computer.  My BIOS is set to boot from my hard drive, not from a USB drive, so what did the installation of the MFP M127FW drivers and software do to my computer?  I assume this has something to do with the Smart Install feature.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi @frcraig ,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the computer booting up when the printer is connected by the USB cable.
I would like to help you out with this issue today.
Most likely it is the Smart Install on the printer causing this. The printer looks like a disk drive.
On the printer, touch Setup, Service, Smart Install and turn it off.
If you are still having issues, in the system BIOS, disable the Boot from USB device option and the USB Legacy Support option. Doing this will allow the PC to complete the boot process to the internal hard drive and allow you to enter Windows. If this does not work for any reason, you should boot your PC before connecting the USB drive. Once the computer is fully booted into Windows, connect the USB drive and wait for the operating system to detect the drive.
Important: Do not disable the USB Legacy Support if you are using a USB Keyboard. Doing so will prevent you from being able to use the keyboard during the booting sequence.
What kind of computer do you have?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!

  • When I open FF4 for the first time after starting the computer it is very slow to load. From then on it loads normaly.

I have an HP Pavilion DV9000.

I had this problem too. Not just with FF 4 but also previous versions. For that and other reasons I decided to by an SSD and install windows and all the programs on there. That worked fine except for firefox. Boot time is much faster (2o secs) and programs (from the startup folder) are loaded almost immediately after the desktop comes up. However firefox still took 90 seconds to load. After some trial and error I disables in the registry prefetcher and superprefetch (I am running windows 7, no SP1). Then I restarted my computer twice. The first time firefox did not load any faster but at any subsequent startup firefox starts in a few seconds. In fact some times it is so fast it comes up before the wireless network connection is established. HTH

  • My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens

My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens. PLEASE HELP

I have a similar (if not the exact same) problem! Here are some more details if they are helpful.
My iPhone 4 died earlier today and will not turn back on. It seemed that the battery died while it was not in use. I attempted to charge it on one charging cord in multiple wall outlets and none worked. Assuming it was a malfunction in the cord, I took my phone home to try charging it there.
Again, I attempted charging it in multiple outlets with a different cord than previously used. None of these seemed to work, though they would flash the Connect to Power screen for a brief moment before returning to a black screen. I assumed that my phone was simply so depleted of battery that it needed a long charge.
I charged it for 30+ minutes without any success, then attempted to charge it through my MacBook instead of through a wall outlet. iTunes did not even recognize that my phone plugged in (and still hasn't). I've attempted charging it for an extended period of time (1+ hour) with no luck. Sometimes when I press the Power button it will flash the Connect to Power screen once more before returning to black.
The Apple logo never appears, nor does any apparent progress on charging. I have attempted holding down the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 10 - 30 second increments. Still no luck. There is no reason anything should be happening with this phone that I can identify.
I have no warranty and just recently replaced my previous phone which had had similar problems before completely crashing. This is a phone new to me that was previously used but in almost new conditions and factory reset by Apple prior to my purchase.
Does this mean that my phone battery is dead?
Is there anything else I can do??

Ive just upgraded my late 2009 macbook, and things are not working properly. First of all, when I started the computer first time after installing Mountain Lion, some message advised me that some files were impossible to install. Once I wrote my password, and for now on, everytime I start the session, another window advise me that "Java SE 6" is missing, due that, the computer can't run some "CS5Service Manager". If I try to install it, the download ends with an error. If finally, you skip the istallation, you arrive to the dock, but the menu bar at the top of the screen doesn't show up.
In addition, my trackpad doesn't works either. I can move the arrow but i can't click anywhere, probably because the option of clicking by touching is disabeled and I can't performance a regular click.
I'll be very glad if someone know what the heck is happening with my computer. Anyway, I'm going to the genius bar next Saturday. Thx!

  • Computer won't boot up after installing SIIG card

    Hey Everyone,
I having problems with my SIIG FireWire 2-Port PCIe DV card that I've installed into my PowerMac G5 Quad. With the card installed the computer will not boot up, which is the same thing that happened with my previous two models of the card. I installed a new card yesterday and it worked fine all day, but after shutting the computer down for the night and then restarting it in the morning I am experiencing the same problems. The light on the front of the computer turns on, but the screen does not, and after about a minute a loud fan noise comes one. I have the card installed in Slot 2. In Slot 1 I have a ProTools HD card and in Slot 3 I have an AJA Kona LHE card. Even with all of the cards removed the computer still does not boot up. Anyone seen this problem before? Any help or information anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerMac G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi, I had the same problem with my dual core G5.
I installed the card and my computer won't boot up. The screen stays gray and the fan keeps spinning.
I contacted SIIG and they said the card is defective, which, I doubt it is.
I then returned it for a refund.

  • External Cache Failure reported and computer won't boot

I have a highly upgraded Digital Audio G4 (originally a single processor 533 Mhz, now a Dual 1.2 Mhz). The machine has been running through many ups and downs hangning in there for a while. Basically everything has been upgraded except the motherboard. Normally, this machine runs like a champ and I changed nothing on it when it started behaving erratically. It just sat powered off for a while.
The latest problem ocurred out of the blue:
After being powered completely off for some hours, when I went to boot it back up, everything came on like it normally does (fans, power light, hd's sound like they're running etc.), but it would not boot. My monitor would just go into power save mode and display nothing. When the computer does this, I cannot reset PRAM nor can I boot into Open Firmware. There are no chimes and the PRAM does nothing. My keyboard does not respond to any external stimuli, it will not boot off the original CD. No keyboard input affects the way it boots. It is as though the computer powers on but starts up nothing.
The only thing I have been able to do to get it up and running is to hit the black PMU reset button on the motherboard. If I do this before powering on, then the machine boots up as normal. When I actually shut down and lose power to the motherboard, then later try to reboot, it goes through this process again and again - monitor goes into powersave mode, no PRAM reset abilities, nothing boots, sits powered on only, etc. If I open the case, hit the PMU button, close the case and then restart, the Mac behaves as normal... UNTIL you shut it down and try to power it up, then it goes through this process until the PMU is reset.
First thing I did was replace the battery with a fresh new one that I have. The computer behaves exactly the same. I have tried resetting PRAM when it boots back up, have tried resetting NVRAM when it boots back up. None of this changes the behavior.
I was at a loss with this and tried disconnecting my external devices which did not change the behavior.
The reason I now believe it has something to do with the External Cache is as follows:
I have two versions of Mac OSX on two different drives. In System Profiler, Panther told me nothing was unusual. All devices including RAM seem to be okay. When running System Profiler in Tiger, I found a new item in the list called "Diagnostics".
Under Diagnostics, there was this very perculiar message: "Power On Self Test - Result FAILED, Failure Type - External Cache".
What does this mean? Is there a way to fix this? I am sure that it's related to my problem, but what are viable solutions?
    G4 Dual 1.2 / PB 1.5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   running Tiger & Panther, 1.25 GB RAM

I have narrowed this down to an issue with my 3rd party Gigadesigns CPU upgrade. Though it worked flawlessly for about a year and a half, it now does not like being powered off. Works fine if you leave it on, but to reboot after a power down, the PMU must be reset. PIA! But at least it works. But it fails to get past POST (Power On Startup Tests) without the PMU.
By replacing my original 533Mhz CPU, the power off problem disappeared. Of course, that's not an optimal solution, so now I either keep the machine on all the time or it's PMU time.
Hope this helps someone down the road...

  • Monitor doesnt wake up when booting first time, have to restart - k9n ultra-2f

So, I have few problems. The main problem is in da topic:
I bought an used computer about two weeks ago. I installed windows and all drivers etc.
With the old bios (cant remember what version) all was okay except always in boot an error message was shown that said something that the proseccor could not be recognised but the processor was still shown right in My Computer.. :s
Because of that error message i decided to update bios. I updated it throught live update 3 to v.3.6 and now i dont get the processor error message but the monitor doesnt wake up in the boot.. I have to press reset button and then when the monitor wakes up there comes an error message what says something like "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the defauls settings". Then I press any key and windows boots normally.
I reupdated v.3.6 bios today manually from floppydisk but the problem didnt go anywhere.
I have searched this forum but cant find same kind of problem posted.
Can somebody please help me with this and tell what could be the problem?
Also when booting second time so that the monitor wakes up, i get four alert sounds.. What could those mean?
My computer is pretty powerful (amd athlon 64 5600+ x2, club3d gf 7950gt, 2gb 533mhz..) It should be very smooth and fast but it often appears slowliness and ..how can i say it.. temporary tilting? :p And the 3dmark03 benchmark gives me 19465 points, it should be giving much more. The computer is clean, no viruses or adware. What could cause this?
Sorry for the messy message and bad english and im not really good at computers

    Thanks for the reply.
I didnt have this issue before updating BIOS..
And i didnt find jbat1 from my k9n ultra-2f. I didnt even find it from the mb manual. Theres only a Clear CMOS Button: SW2. I pushed it few times and then i rebooted my computer. At the first time the monitor woke up instantly and i was like wohooooo but then i shut down the computer and booted it again.. The monitor didnt wake up before pressing the reset button, the same problem was back.
I think that the SW2 button reset the bios settings like the jbat1 would do, because i had disabled the big logo at the boot and after pressing SW2 the logo was back.
Then i set the memory vcore to 2.0V but it didnt help. Infact i think the computer had come a bit more slowly.. :s I think it may be the RAM what makes my comp so slow... dunno.

  • Computer won't boot if the GTX 970 is plugged in

    Hello everyone,
I just recently bought and assembled a new computer, however, the computer won't boot when the gpu is plugged in.
The motherboard I got is a MSI Z97I Gaming AC and the GPU is a MSI GeForce GTX 970.
When the GPU isn't plugged in the mobo, everything boots up fine and I was able to check with the bios that every other elements of the computer where recognized fine. When I plug in the GPU however, the system won't boot. The fans of the case, the mobo AND the GPU's are working and the GPU's leds also on, so it shouldn't be a PSU issue (I use a 750W PSU so that should cover it). However, no boot at all.
I don't really feel like trying to plug the GPU in another computer if it's just some compatibility issue or whatnot that you may be aware of. Maybe the bios doesn't recognise it ? The version is e7920IMS V1.0, I wasn't really able to find any kind of information regarding the latest versions online.
    Thank you,
    Yann

Here it is, follow the below to update to 1.4:

  • If usb is plugged the computer won't boot

Hi there. I have recently started to experience a new type of problem. I have two usb hdds connected to a usb hub. I've never had any problems with it(the hub). After I installed the last update 10.7.3 everytime I restart my computer if I have the hub (with all my hdds and other devices) connected to my computer, the computer won't boot. It get up to the white screen (before the loading wheel). If I unplug the usb cable it starts booting inmediately.
The funny thing is I didn't change anything lately. It started to do this yesterday.
    Thanks

Is the hub powered? If not that is probably your problem. The hd's are sucking power but can't get enough to power up and that is probably stopping the MBP from booting.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?
