Computer won't let me update itunes

when i try to update itunes it gets almost all the way to the end but then a window pops up with a message that says "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.  click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'i Tunes.msi' in the box below."  it only has 2 options in the box to choose from and they both don't work.  i don't know what to do. PLEASE HELP!!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeksare worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select anyiTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

my computer won't let me download the new version of itunes?

I'm having the same problem. I get the error message that I don't have permission to access the file:
    C:\Config Msi\51e4a.rbf
I've installed the latest update of QuickTime separately, in case that was causing the problem. Baffled.

  • Computer won't let me install itunes

Have been using itunes for a few years now, was getting the latest update, and my computer wouldn't let it download. Is it my computer or the update?

What operating system are you using? (If you're not sure, click the Apple icon at the left of the menu bar and choose 'About this Mac'.) The current version of iTunes requires 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). If you have anything earlier you may be able to get a higher version of iTunes (what version do you have now) but not the current one.
If you do have Snow Leopard or higher then evidently something is wrong; do you get an error message and if so, what?

  • Windows won't let me update iTunes

I am running a Windows VMFusion OS on my Mac, and until recently it has operated flawlessly.  Recently, however, it stopped allowing me to update iTunes, and now my iPhone won't connect to the Windows OS.  No problems at all connecting to the Mac OS.
    I'm running Windows XP.
    Anyone run into this?
So far I've tried to update via the Help menu on iTunes and I've downloaded a fresh iTunes .exe from the Apple website.  Neither works... in fact, nothing happens at all.  I've checked processes and the iTunes-specific processes are running.  I stopped them and restarted them just for grins, but no dice.

Update - I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Quicktime.  No difference.
I used msconfig to turn off all non-Microsoft services unrelated to iTunes and Quicktime, as well as all start-up items.  No difference.
I brought up Task Manager and watched to see if iTunes showed up anywhere when I attempted to install the program.  It did not.

  • ITunes 9 won't let me update iTunes

My teenage (not very tech savvy) wants to update her iTunes (which is ver 9).  When I go to "update", I get a dialog box that it is searching for updates to all the (apple) software on the machine. iTunes wasn't listed.  We updated everything in that box, and tried it again.  It says "all software up to date".
How can we update from iTunes 9?
    Thanks

  • TS1629 my computer is not letting me update itunes because "I'm not the administrator" (which I am)

I've been trying to download the latest version of itunes for a couple days now. Everytime I did it, i twould go almost entirely through the download process and right at the end it would say it couldn't finish because i don't have administrator rights.
Last night I decided to see if I could figure out why it was saying that, if some how my settings were changed.
Everything I found, it looked like I was administrator.... this is my first issue
Also, when trying to figure out the admin thing. I ended up deleting my itunes. I tried to restore my computer and bring it back, but only parts of it came back. So I dont know if I need to completely uninstall itunes to be able to reinstall?
But first I have to figure out the admin thing
    Thanks

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • My Computer won't let me download iTunes 7.6

    Can anyone help me?
I try downloading iTunes 7.6 but when I do, a message comes up that says
Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services.
That's exactly what it says. It also has a choice to pick (Abort, Retry, Ignore) When I click abort I have to restart it and it happens again. When I click retry, the same message comes back up. When I click Ignore the message goes away for less than 1 minute and comes back..
Someone, PLEASE HELP.... If your asking, I'm not and Administrator of my Computer

You're lucky... do yourself a favor and don't bother. It's buggy and runs like garbage. Read the previous threads on the freezing issues and installation of unmentioned services. I'd highly recommend you wait on 7.6...

It seems that you try to update iTunes rather than your phone. To update your phone, connect it to your computer, and on the page of your phone in iTunes, you should have a button "check for updates" or something similar.

  • ITunes claims my 5th gen ipod has old software, but won't let me update

I have two ipods... one an old 3rd gen scroll wheel ipod that just seemed to go kaput... it wasn't showing up in the iTunes source list or on my desktop. So I followed some directions on the apple site to try to restore it:
    "Step 1
    Delete the file using Terminal
    Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities).
    Type: sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/iPodDriver.kext
    Press Return.
Enter the administrator account password when prompted.
    Quit Terminal.
Restart the computer (From the Apple menu, choose Restart).
    Step 2
    Reinstall iTunes
Download the latest version of iTunes from the iTunes download page.
    Install iTunes.
Restart the computer after the installation has completed.
    Connect iPod.
    Step 3
    Delete the iPod.plist file
Remove the following file in the your home directory and launch the iPod updater again
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist"
Anyway none of this worked for my old ipod (I think it's dead) but here's my new problem. Since I did this I plugged in my new ipod, 5th gen black 60g, and I got an error message that said:
"Some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to the iPod "Honey" because your iPod software is too old. Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update."
When I went to the Summary page the whole "Version" section is grayed out and it says "Your iPod is up to date."
What is going on and how can I fix it?

  • ITunes keeps crashing and won't let me update to ios 5 + many more problems with iTunes

Here is alist of all my problems:
Whenever I try and sync my iPhone     to my computer it doesn’t work and then my iTunes crashes, there are no     error messages it just freezes and crashes.
After I have done this my iTunes     doesn’t even open and crashes strait away.
My iTunes also crashes     sometimes when I am just trying to move from (for example) music to     movies.
My iTunes also refuses to     access iTunes store (no errors it just doesn’t work).
Sometimes I can get past the     backup issue by cancelling the back up and letting it sync, but no it won’t     even let me do that it freezes and crashes before it can even transfer my purchases.
All thishappens if I can even open up my iTunes.
I amcurrently running ios 4.3.4 as I can even update to ios 5 I am running (tryingto) iTunes 10.5.
I have trieduninstalling and reinstalling iTunes about a 1000 time and it hasn’t doneanything (done as instructed on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923). I havebeen trough tones of pages on the community and on the other support pages thatapple has but I have found no answers. I have also tried to install an olderversion of iTunes but it just comes up with an error message saying all myfiles are configured to iTunes 10.5 and noting work on that either.
This hasbeen going on for ages and I know there is a lot to deal with in this post butplease if anyone has any ideas, knows, or has dealt with any of the above please help.
    Thank you

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.

My husband and I are using the same iTunes account on all mac & pc computers, but the libraries are different on each machine.  We always manually manage our music (no auto sync).  iTunes is up to date on the PCs.  My husband uses our joint iTunes account on his pc, but once again, has a different collection in his library from those on the other machines.  He can't load any music from his PC to his iphone 4.  I can load music from my mac library to my iphone 4s, but cannot load from my pc library to my iphone 4s.  How can I switch my main library that it syncs with from the mac to the pc?

The 1G iPod can only go as high as 3.1.3. The 1G does not have an internal speaker or volume buttons on the upper left edge.
