Computer won't reconise ipod shuffle

I have a pc with windows xp pro. I already have i-tunes on my system. I am haveing problems with my new ipod shuffle software and hardware! The software only goes to the point where it ask for me to connect the shuffle for possible updates. Once done it just stays there and does nothing. I have tried the other way without the shuffle being connected but at the end the shuffle doesn't appear on my i-tunes source list. I have even downloaed the update from the apple web page but the resulets are the same. It will not work until I can get the computer to reconised the shuffle itself. I don't know what else to do. I need some help.

Just an update, after I posted this I put my husbands shuffle on the charger to see what it would do. Before putting it on the charger I turned it on and no light came on! It seems something is disabling the shuffles. Could it be a virus? I have virus software on my computer and it isn't detecting anything. Also, my husbands shuffle didn't work on the netbook even when the indicator light was coming on.

Background on my shuffle, I purchased it in 2008 and have used it non-stop since. My husband also has one, purchased the same day, but it has rarely been used. So what I am about to describe has actually happened with both shuffles. One day when I was going to attach my shuffle to it's original charger base, I noticed that the base had fell between my computer desk and something else and became bent. I went ahead and tried to place my shuffle on the base just to see if it would work and it wouldn't. So thinking that the charger was destroyed, I went out and bought a new USB charger cable. When I connected my shuffle to the new cable my computer didn't even detect it and so my problems began. I also assume that my shuffles battery is totally discharged (or maybe the shuffle is totally dead, not sure), but there are no indicator lights coming on at all. My husbands shuffle needs to be charged, but the red indicator light will come on and blink when you turn it on. I connected his shuffle to the computer as well, using the old charger and the new one, and the computer will not detect his shuffle. I have updated, removed, and reinstalled iTunes multiple times. I have also put iTunes on my netbook and tried to connect both shuffles using new and old cables, nothing happens. I have used all the USB ports I have, nothing happens, but all of my other things that are in the ports work. I have looked over Apples site, YouTube, talked to people I know, tried everything I see, and nothing is working. I refuse to pay for Apple to help me with this because I will just buy a new shuffle (the new cable was $19! and it's at least $19 to get Apple to talk to me!). To add to this, I was thinking that maybe charging a different type of iPod in my computer may have had an effect. Several months ago, a friend of mine gave me her old iPod (it has a screen, but it's not a touch screen, sorry I don't know what kind of iPod it is). However, this iPod and the shuffles have been charging happily together and my shuffle working in iTunes without problems until this incident. iTunes would detect all iPods, but would not let me do anything with my friends iPod to allow me to make any changes to it (which isn't a problem I care to address at this point). Now, my computer will detect my friends iPod to at least charge it, but iTunes will not detect it. Thankfully, in this process I have not lost any purchased music, but I would really appreciate any advice on how to fix this. I would even be ok with restoring the shuffles, but I can't even do that because they aren't detected (unless there is some way to do that outside of iTunes). I'm sure this sounds confusing, but if you ask specific questions I'm sure things can be more clear so there can be a better understanding of the issue so everyone out there can help me solve it! There are some complaints, that the 10W iPad wall charger does not charge iPod Classic, as it is too high power, Claasic need 1Amp max, but the iPad Charger gives 2 Amp.

Computer harddrive crashed, now restored, won't recognize iPod Shuffle

My hardrive crashed and after the restore, I've lost all my playlists. I reinstalled iTunes, then connected the Shuffle, but iTunes won't recognize the Shuffle. I guess it would normally appear under "Store" on the left side of the iTunes page.
Please advise.

When I connect it to a powered port on the right side of eMac, I get no recognition from iTunes (or desktop).
Other USB devices used are keyboard and printer. (Soundsticks II in audio hole - unrelated I figure.)
iPod flashes green once, orange and green once, and then to orange flashing.
When installed both iTunes 5 and 5.0.1, computer wouldn't shutdown properly initially. I had to unplug powercord. And initial update of 5.0.1 bogged down and I had to force quit and try again.

I just bought the iPod Shuffle 4th Generation and downloaded iTunes onto my laptop today. The Shuffle won't connect to my iTunes or my computer properly.
When I connected it to the computer (Windows 7), it said "unable to sync device" or something like that. I know it's not my USB ports because everything seems to work with it EXCEPT for the Shuffle. In iTunes, the Shuffle won't even show up in the devices. It's not my first time using iTunes. I used to have it on my old computer, but this is the first time this has ever happened to me. In terms of the Shuffle itself, I turned it on and pressed play and it just keeps saying "please use iTunes to music onto this device"
I already tried the troubleshooting guide, but that doesn't seem to work either ...

If that error message says "unknown device" (it's not about syncing), the cause may be iTunes not being installed properly. When iTunes is installed, it also installs drivers that allow Windows to recognize iPods. You should try installing iTunes again. You can download the latest iTunes installer here

Help! My computer won't read iPod anymore...

but my brother's computer will read my shuffle. It will read it in iTunes, and windows itself recognizes it. I don't understand why my computer won't recognize it (when it used to) anymore. The only thing I can think of is that I had to restore my computer to factory settings last week, but since then I've reinstalled/updates iPod/iTunes software. I know it's not my USB port because it's reading my digital camera and jump-drive. Can anyone help me with this? It's 6 months old, so Apple won't give me support.

Computer won't detect iPod

Hi,
My computer won't detect my iPod when I plug it in. I open up iTunes and it won't show up in the list. It gets a picture of a sad ipod on it, and as it starts up it makes an odd clicking noise. I cannot get it into disk mode. I've tried all of the solutions at the apple support site and it simply won't work. I downloaded the iPod Updater software and I got it running but it couldn't detect my iPod for some reason. Ive switched the cable to different USB ports and my comp wont detect it. Also when I try and reset it, (after the clicking noise stops and it shuts off) there is an icon which looks like a battery with rough, jagged, or broken ends. What does this mean and what can I do?

Connecting new ipod to computer already programed w/ ipod shuffle

Help, I'm dumb. I was given an ipod shuffle a while back. Installed it, loved it, bought a bigger, better one, but can't use it yet. Can't get my itunes program on computer to recognize that I have a new ipod. How can I make computer w/ ipod shuffle already installed work with NEW video ipod. Help.

Computer won't sync ipod

My computer won't sync my ipod! I restarted my computer a million times. Its not my USB cord because when i plug it, my ipod charges. My computer does nothing! What do i do? I'm soooo frustrated right now.

Guys if you are experiencing the problem with you windows operating system no longer recognizing your ipod or itunes for that fact try resetting your ipod:
Steps to reset ipod:
1. Disconnect Ipod.
2. Press and hold down menu button and ok/select button at the same time for 1-10s or until ipod restarts.
Ipod should then reboot.
3. Follow instructions left by heap:
(a)Close itunes down.
(b)Go to services in control panel or by typing it into your run command box from start menu on your operating system, Services.msc.
(c)Right click on Apple Mobile Device and click restart or start as mentioned before.
(d) Reopen itunes and reconnect ipod.
Hope this helps those that were original unsuccessful with the initial steps posted.

Storage space full of "other", computer won't recognize iPod is plugged in

I just downloaded about 100 songs onto my 160 gigabyte iPod Video Classic, making my number of songs only about 1,300. My iPod says its storage now only has 1.9 mb left. I only have about 10 videos and no photos, but the "other" section of the storage content bar takes up a ton of space. It had none before. How do I remove the "other" from my iPod? Now my computer won't recognize any iPod when I plug it in, and I've tried multiple plugs.

Connect the iPod to a USB2.0 port, on the Computer itself and not a USB hub or those found on the Apple keyboard.
If iTunes launch, close it back.
If your iPod is found on your Desktop, then run DiskUtility, (if not then Reset the iPod while connected to the Mac)
Select you iPod
Click FirstAid Tab on the right window.
Press the Repair button.
After Repair finish, iTunes may launch and ask to Restore, this will delete all the data in your iPod.
if iTunes did not launch, just Reset iPod again while connected to your Mac.
Always don't use USB hub or the Keyboard USB port or else your problem will come back, as the power is insufficient from these shared ports for iPod harddisk write process.

My pc will not install my new ipod shuffle 4gb. It says i need a cd then when i say connect to internet to connect to software needed it cannot. I have downloaded the lastes i tunes and followed waht should be done. I am no computer wizard. Please can anyone help.

It's weird. The other day I was syncing my iTouch and iPod, when suddenly my computer. Normally it never crashes okay? I thought maybe it was because I was IMing, playing music on iTunes, and syncing, so it was overloaded. When it restarted my iTouch was perfectly okay, while my iPod was apparently "Corrupted". I pressed restore and waited for what, 8 hours? I restored at least 10 times before, and it always takes only like 4 minutes! I took out the cord and tried listening to a few songs, everyone of them in tact. Later I synced my iPod to my brother's Windows Vista, and his iTunes showed my iPod perfectly fine. I then restored my iPod on my brother's computer... taking only 2 minutes. Then I tried reinstalling my iTunes over my computer, wondering if it has a defectioncy... When I started iTunes, I hadn't plugged in my iPod yet, and yet, it showed a white corrupted iPod on my sidebar... I plugged in my iPod then, and nothing changed... Anyone have a solution to this problem? I need my computer to read my iPod properly because it's what I use to back up my songs so whenever I get a new comp I can just tranfer my songs using my iPod (since my iTouch can't do this) My iPod's a 30gb 5th Gen and my iTouch's a 16gb 1st Gen.

Computer won't recognize ipod and ipod flases foler with exclamation point

Last week, my computer randomly said it did not recognize my ipod. I continued to use it and figured I'd worry about updating it another time. Then today, I was using my nano and it stopped and flashed the folder with the exclamation point icon and below the icon directed my to Apple's support website. I've tried most of the things I've seen in the forums, and I really have no clue what to do. Everytime I try to turn it on, the icon comes up and everytime I try to connect to iTunes my computer won't recognize it.

Computer won't recognize iPod and iPod is frozen

Just pulled my iPod out of it's case. When I went to install the software, the computer won't recognize the iPod Nano. I've tried all 6 USB ports. Computer states:
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it."
Now the iPod has locked up, won't change screens or makes any sounds. I've gone through the help guide, but toggling the hold button doesn't help either.

I had the same problem with mine! I took it out of the box and it was working just fine, but as soon as I plugged it into the computer, the screen froze and the computer reported the exact same error message. I've tried resetting it, but none of the buttons work now, and I even tried restoring it, but the computer doesn't even recognize that it's an ipod nano. I'm starting to wonder if I need to just replace it.

We had work done to our computer and they had to take everything off the computer and reload the operating system. My itunes were restored, but when I connect my ipod the computer won't recognize my ipod and the songs I recently downloaded from the itunes store won't synchronize. Any thoughts?

I am having the same problem. I recently got a new iPod nano 3rd gen, connected it to iTunes and my computer and it was all well and good. I then connected it for a second time, all fine. But ever since then my computer says "one of the devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it". My iPod works absolutuely fine apart from that. Any suggestions?
