Computer won't restart!

For some reason after doing an update last night, my computer won't restart. I did 3 updates, one for iTunes, one that said "Pro Support for QuickTime" I think, and a 3rd one that I really don't remember.
Here's a detail of what happened:
1. Did the 3 updates. It did not ask for a restart.
2. Checked my email and a couple websites with Firefox.
3. The finder crashes. I can't find any way to fix it without doing a hard reboot so that's what I do.
4. When my computer starts up it gets to my desktop, and a window pops up that asks if I want to send the details of the crash to Apple. I click on "Ok" instead of "Details".
5. A few seconds later, while it's OSX is still loading up, the screen goes blue and shows the spinning OS loading thing (not the beachball, the little circle thing that indicates OSX is loading).
6. Then it randomly shows my desktop for a few seconds, and then goes back to the blue screen, and then back and forth.
It doesn't get past this stage now. I cannot move anything or start any apps quick enough because it goes to the blue screen.
Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more details if you ask.
I will most likely take it in for repairs as long as it doesn't cost the amount to buy a new computer.

The Finder's crashing. Search these forums for *Finder crash*, *Finder crashing*, etc. There's been a bit of traffic on the subject. Also, boot with your install disk and launch Disk Utility, then repair the disk and permissions.

Unclear what your problem's all about. You can't boot the machine with the SL install disc or, after installing SL, the machine won't boot. Provide amplifying info and maybe we can help solve it.

• Yosemite; Computer won't restart. Stuck at 50%

I had run into adware on my computer, and in my attempt to get rid of the adware, I was following the instructions on Apple's support page (link:https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987) and the instructions told me to empty the trash. The computer was taking an excessive amount of time to complete this task so I decided to restart my computer. Since then, it has been more than 45 minutes and the computer is still stuck at 50%. How do I fix this? I can't lose any of the files on the computer.
Thank you very much

Hello ShazAnsari,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand after following the instructions to remove adware, you restarted your Mac while the trash was being emptied because it seemed to be unresponsive. In this situation, If the startup is still not progressing, I would suggest working through the steps in the attached article.

• Computer won't restart after installing ITunes

Hello!
I really need some help with getting my itunes to work. I go to itunes.com and download the newest version, which I believe is 10.1. I go through the entire install and everything works fine and it seems like there are no issues. Then, when i'm done using the computer, I shut it down. The next time I go to start up my computer it gets stuck on the "please wait" part of the welcome menu and just stays like that forever. So what I have to do it restart my computer and get into the Repair your computer section after pressing F8 and I do a system restore which wipes my computer clean for the entire day.. Anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried downloading itunes at least 8 times and it always does the same thing!

So not a issue with the Windows installation. That suggests a conflict between iTunes and another program or driver that is ramifying through to the startup trouble.
Do you have a version of iTunes of any sort on the PC? If so, in that version, in iTunes go "Help > Run Diagnostics. Leave all four boxes checked, and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen, click the "Copy to clipboard" button and paste the results into a reply here.

• My computer won't restart

When I restarted my MacBook Pro it stays on a gray screen and flashes a file with a question mark. What do I do?

Mriley16,
“the most updated version” is not necessarily the same as “the most recent version”. One can run Software Update on any version of OS X on a MacBook Pro (including versions which no longer receive updates) so that it’s as up to date as possible, but that is not necessarily synonymous with having the most recent version of OS X.
A flashing file with a question mark means that there’s a problem with the disk; the steps in my previous replies are intended to see if that problem can be resolved or not.
Did your MacBook Pro originally come from the factory with two grey installation DVDs in the box?

• Neo2 Platinum won't restart in WinXP

I recently RMA'd a Neo2 Platinum board because the SATA3/4 ports were not being detected during the Windows XP Pro setup. I received the board yesterday and the ports are now detected properly but I've encountered another perturbing problem. I've discovered that the computer won't restart via software. What I mean is after the NTFS format of the hard drive in Windows setup the computer is supposed to reboot on its own to proceed with the installation of the OS but in my case I have to physically press the restart button on my machine to continue with the install. Windows XP will fully install on the hard drive however the operating system can only turn off the PC, it won't restart it. It merely hangs.
I've tried reposition memory sticks, use a different IDE cable, another power supply, clearing the CMOS via the jumper, reverse updating the BIOS twice, and using the safe defaults in the BIOS but nothing has worked. This isn't the first time I've put a computer together and I've built quite a few but this is one abnormality I've never before encountered. I just hope this board doesn't have to be RMA'd yet again.
Thank you in advance for your help.

• G5 won't restart or shut down or change startup disc...

(after several updates) my computer won't restart or shut down except manually... which prevents me from changing the startup disc (where all my important stuff is). Option key during startup doesn't give me the startup disc option either.
I'm stuck!
I verified and repaired permissions on both volumes, but can't switch back to the hard drive/OS I need.
If anyone can suggest some helpful info I'd really appreciate the help.

Hi-
Are you using an Apple keyboard? If not, please do so while troubleshooting.
Try resetting the PRAM. Hold CommandOption+PR while starting up. Hold the keys until you hear the second startup chime, then release. The machine should then boot normally.
If this fails to return function, a PMU/SMU reset may be required.
There is a possibility of damaged files within the OS. Boot to the OS install disc, open Disk Utility and run Repair Disk on the Startup volume.

• Installed Safari 3.1, reboot, computer won't boot fans go into overdrive

Okay, I installed the Safari 3.1 update and restarted my computer. However it won't boot now. The displays stay black and after about 30 seconds the fans in the G5 kick on full blast.
I've tried shutting it manually and unplugging the power cord from the back. I also tried zapping the PRAM.
Help? I would appreciate it.

My computer is also now not restarting. First Safari 3.1 had other apps stop working and now the computer won't restart. I tried Safe Boot and zapping the PRAM but it just cycles through two different blue screens.

• Can anyone help me get my iMac to reboot? I get a gray "curtain" over the start up screen saying I need to restart my computer but it won't restart. I just keep getting the same message every time.

Can anyone help me get my iMac to reboot? I get a gray "curtain" over the light gray start up screen with a message that I need to restart my computer and to hold the power button until it powers off and then press the power button again to restart. It just does this over and over again and won't restart.

Yeah, as necronym stated, it is a hardware issue and more than likely a RAM problem. Disconnect everything from the computer except keyboard and mouse and try again. If it still happens try removing one and/or swapping your RAM sticks over. Keep trying until you have eliminated all possible combinations. Just put a mark on one RAM stick so you know what have tried. If it still fails to boot properly you should probably replace your RAM, but that is no guarantee of success. Have a look at this link for more info on a Kernel Panic.

• Tried to update my computer to the new iTunes and it won't restart.

Two days ago I installed the new iTunes update. It asked me to restart my computer but I was working on something and put it off. I noticed the icon on my toolbar for iTunes was messed up so I clicked on it and a message came up saying something along the lines of "windows cannot find this program." I thought nothing of it, turned of my computer and the next day my computer won't start. We've tried restarting in safe mode, restore to last good configuration, and a windows repair and nothing is working. It always gets stuck on the Windows start up screen and I don't know what else to do. Has anyone else had this problem or knows a way to fix it? I own a Toshiba Satellite A660 and I'm using Windows 7.

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.
• My computer won't log out of a program. what do I do so I can restart my computer?

my computer won't log out of a program. what do I do so I can restart my computer?

You can force quit it. Hold down the option key, hold your cursor on the dock icon and you'll see Force Quit. You can also try clicking opt-cmd-escape to bring up the Force Quit window, highlight the program you want to quit and click Force Quit.
Note that you may lose settings or progress if an application isn't shut down properly.

I've tried disk utility, Nortons, even restarting with command+S then typeing fsck- fy (return) as I read on one of your previous forms. but nothing seems to work, any help would be appreciated!

First welcome to the discussions.
The first thing I would do is Repair Permissions.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607640&#607640
After reading all the reports on Norton and disruptive behavior it causes in OSX I would recommend UnInstalling it.
You might have an issue with something else causing your problem but reading through the link above and UnInstalling Norton is a good start to isolate your issue.

• Computer won't reboot after restart?

This is in regards to my computer I use at work, Windows 7 Professional PC desktop. Been using the same system for almost 3 years and this is pretty much the only minor problem that has stumped all of us, including our IT team. The system won't reboot when
I choose restart from the start menu. Or if it runs updates and it automatically restarts to complete them, it won't restart. I have to manually push the power button. So, the when the option to restart the system comes up (whether by my own hand or an update
of some kind), the computer will shut down and stay off. Then I have to manually push the power button and it will start up. That's it. No other problems. The system runs smooth. I've searched quite a bit for an answer to this question and have seen many variations
of it, but nothing that I am experiencing. Any help is appreciated :) Thank you all!
