Computer won't run installations off CDs

When I insert a CD and try to install something off it my computer opens up the "Printer Utility". I know I can change the application that is used to open CD installations, but what do I need to change it to? And how can I prevent this from happening in the future.
Thanks for the help.

Usually it is either Bomarchiver, or Installer.app depending on the operating system version. DMG files should be opened by Disk Utility.

    Apple have recently released an update to Safari removing in-built Java capability. If you want to use Java which I presume you do you must download it from this address;

  • Computer won't recognize Installation CD!

Hi: I am trying to install my Webcam & when I inserted the installation disc, my computer just didn't recognize it at all...it kept telling me to insert a disc...my friend tried it on his computer & it worked just fine. I wonder what I am missing? Also when I boot up my PC, I always get a pop-up box that says:
"Could not load or run D:CDSETUP.EXE specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry."
I wonder if this has any connection to my problem? If so, how can I fix it so I can install my camera!

    Hi, jlehrer -
    1) Software Restore CDs are definitely model-specific. If the ones you have available are for a different model G4, they will not work on your G4 867MHz machine.
Perhaps an important issue - Software Restore CDs are intended to revert the drive to its original as-shipped configuration. Although it is possible to use them to re-install without erasing the drive in the process, it is very easy to accidentally do just that.
    2) System Profiler should have that info available, in the Hardware Overview section on the System Profile page. These pages from http://www.apple-history.com may help -
    G4 QS '01
    G4 QS '02
    G4 MDD '02
The education version of the G4 QS '02, the 867MHz model, is not specifically mentioned on those pages for some reason, but would share the same basic criteria as the other G4 QS '02 models, including needing the version of OS 9.2.2 it shipped with.

  • Computer won't run games, system restarts. NOT solved ;/

Hi there! My computer started to boot up when playing any newer games (like half-life 2 or FEAR). It doesnt show any errors, just boots up and starts normally. Facts:
    - Newer games restarts system only, not old games such as counter-strike 1.6
    - 3DMark06 can run without booting 6+ hours
    - Newer games i can play like 2 minutes until it restarts
    - Windows automatically restart is turned OFF and C:\Windows\minidump doesn't have any files in it
    - I don't get any blue screens or errors when it restarts
    - Tried without integrated sound chip (without drivers too)
    - I have reinstalled Windows and i have all newest updates.
    - I have been able to run games before! This started few days ago!
    - I have removed old GFX drivers, ran cleaning software and installed new ones (same version).
    - My temperatures seems to be normal, here's picture when at desktop:

All computer info is at signature. What the hell is wrong with my computer?
Some guys says that it's my power supply, how do you explain that my 3DMark06 is stable for 6hours+?
Still keeps crashing/restarting whatever you wanna call it, help me!
Okay... I ran Half-Life 2 like 15minutes without restart so i thought it was fixed, well it wasn't. Tried to play Follow Freeman mod with friend and it rebooted :(
I just ran memtest86 for 6 hours and no errors.

    three? WOW
many have reported high temps with the 8800, low amps being provided causes circuits to overheat which can lead to a sudden restart, it can also lead to early death, why take unnessary chances with power supplies, it could fail and take many other parts with it when it fails.
i suggested you replace the psu in an earlier post, i also suggested you test for overheat with a fan and the case open.
i would not have started that PC with such a power supply, weak supply to the system as a whole can cause maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany issues and i donot have the time to post them all, OR write a multiple page addressing such.
get a psu and start over, the enermax i posted is plenty.
Can't find any single rail PSU's which wasn't out of stock, actually found only one. What do you guys think about this one: BeQuiet Straight Power 500W - +3.3V 30.0A,+5V 30.0A,+12V1 25.0A,+12V2 18.0A (12V 34A), -12V 0.5A,+5Vsb 3.0A.

  • Can't install Mozilla on home computer - won't run InstallWizard.

Installed Mozilla on work desktop without problem because BlackBoard seems to run better with it. Tried to install at home on laptop and it won't install. I get through "Run/Save", "Do you want to run this software?", and "Extracting" screens but InstallWizard never kicks in so I never get the MozillaFirefox icon on my desktop. BTW, I don't have a lot of computer savvy - strictly turn-key operator - so please keep instructions simple :o) Thank-you!

  • OptiDisc cleaner won't run in iMac, CDs won't play in car

I was having problems with car CD player recognizing new iTunes burned CDs (which it's read in the past). Looking through the boards, I think I have two solutions:
    1. I can solve that by slowing down the burn speed (will try later)
    2. I need to clean the drive, so I bought a DVD/CD cleaner, the Memorex OptiDisc.
I loaded it in my PowerBook and iTunes read it easily, seemed to run the cleaning cycle just fine. But my iMac will not recognize the cleaning disc, just spits it out. I have read from others that the disc is recognizable, just looking for feedback or confirmation one way or another. TIA.

Ha, 10th time the charm. OptiDisc loaded and cleaned iMac. Slowed CD burn speed down to 4x, and disc now plays in the car. Hope this helps anyone with similar issues.

  • Computer won't run more than 3-4 seconds after turning on then shuts down. New CPU installed

I replaced a damaged AMD Phenom II 820 quad CPU with what HP said was a compatible AMD Phenom II 965 quad Black edition on my HP Pavilion p6320y. AMD recommended that I also replace the existing 300w PSU with a 500w PSU. That was done succesfully as well. When I turn the machine on, the cooling fans come on but run for no more than 3-4 seconds and the machine turns itself off. The CPU is brand new and has been determined to be fine, not to have been a DOA. Does anyone have suggestions?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
I'd recommend checking with HP again as I don't believe the 'Black Edition' is supported on this machine.

  • My computer won't run certain applications anymore

Recently my computer stopped running certain applications (Specifically Microsoft Word, and Rosetta Stone language programs). I thought that it might be related to the quicktime 7.2 update because it started acting up around the time that I downloaded it. I have tried everything, and I even tried to download the os x 10.4.10 intel combo patch, but my computer refuses to recognize it. Can somebody please help me?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I see you are running 10.4.10, but could you please post back and indicate which Mac you have??
Also, you might try reinstalling Word and Rosetta software.

  • Computer Won't Run w/o TechTool CD...stuck

Hello, I'm posting this message for my dad, so I don't know if he has a 'normal' or a 'firewire 800' G4.
We recently ran TechToolDeluxe on his computer, starting up from the CD, and running a diagnostic and repairing the drive. We had also just done the same thing on my G5. The G4 took MUCH longer (there is more stuff on it, and it is slower, but it took A LOT longer), and when it was over, my father tried to exit, tried to restart, tried to force the CD out, but now it says "need the CD to run" (not sure of the exact dialogue as I never saw it) and so he has to put the TechTool CD back in and it just goes back to that interface. I'm pretty confused and not sure what to do.
    Thanks for any help.

It would help us, so we can advise you correctly, if you would fill in your Mac's specs. in My Settings over on the right, near your name and under the logout choice please.

Do I read this correctly, you are using your G5 TechToolDeluxe CD to repair an older G4? Also what OS are you running; and your Father? Is it the latest version of TechToolDeluxe available?

  • Computer won't stay turned off

    Hello,
I have a wierd problem with Arch linux. Doing "shutdown -h now" only gets me to a "power off" message then I have to manually turn off the computer--then after the computer is off for 5-10 minutes it turns back on.  I have to actually unplug it to keep it off.
I am using a custom compiled 2.6.5 kernel with a Dell dimension v400 pentium II.  The same problem happened when I installed arch with 2.4 kernel--yet it hasn't happened with any other distro that I have tried with this hardware (redhat, gentoo, vector, debian) what is the problem??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Dustin

    Adding this to grub:
    (hd0,0)/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/di ............ acpi=on acpi=power-off
    did not work..
I recompiled the Kernel with no acpi support and now the computer will stay off (don't need to unplug it anymore), but I still have to press the power button to shut it off (no big deal).  Also I was having a problem where the network card would not work after a soft reboot, now it does
    thanks for the help

  • Clamshell Won't run on my new battery

I finally bought a new battery for my Clamshell; charged it up and the computer won't run on the new battery. When I try to start up with the power cord unplugged the machine won't start up (nothing). When I start it up on the plug and unplug it after it's running it goes dead. It looks like the meter shows full. I charged it for 10 plus hours just like the instructions suggested. The machine has never had a working battery so I might be overlooking something really obvious. I looked around in the control panels and don't see anywhere I could manually switch to the battery.
It's a new battery not a used one, so I doubt there is anything wrong with that. I'm stumped.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    CG

    1. Try resetting the Power Management Unit.
    2. If that doesn't work next carefully check the cleanliness of the pins in the battery housing.
    3. If none of that works I'd be seeking advice from the retailer who sold you a new product that doesn't work.

  • Downloaded latest version Adobe Flash Player, Won't run.

D/L adobe flash player, windows 7, 32 bit, but computer won't run it.  Checked add-ons, registry, etc.  Any ideas???

Flash Player is a built-in component of Google Chrome, so there's nothing separate to download or manage.  It might be an easier option.
    http://www.google.com/chrome/
Otherwise, what browser are we talking about?  Do you have any add-ons like AdBlock Pro or Ghostery that might interfere with how Flash operates?

  • Can't install itunes 10.3.1.55, installer won't run

I have been able to download the installer program, but when I run the installer nothing happens except for a brief appearance of a loading bar on the screen, which soon vanishes. No error messages, it just won't run.
I have tried right click and run as administrator - same problem. I have tried uninstalling itunes and quicktime, made no difference. I have restarted, I have removed all temp files and old versions of the installer. Tried redownloading the installer. Still nothing.
So now I have no itunes, but a new ipad enroute that I won't be able to sync argh!
Running windows vista 64bit (yes I am using the 64 bit installer program) on an HP laptop.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

Well as I mentioned earlier I had alreayd tried the uninstalling (as per the apple support website).
I went through trying to change the permissions - which seemed a little confusing as although I am the only use of the computer there were about 5 options - but I picked the one that was the same as my user name. Changed most of the permissions for program files and program files (x86) (some of them it wouldn't allow me to change "access denied"), restarted and tried to install again. Same thing happened as before - nothing.
I have never received the error message that was mentioned in that thread.
edit: I don't have anyone I can get the itunes files off at the moment, so I haven't tried transferring them from another computer.

  • CS3 installs but won't run

Ok - not sure if this goes in this section or not.. but it's a technical question.
My b/f bought me a Dell Laptop last week. It has the recommended minimum of everything adobe says it needs for photoshop CS3 (see below for 1721 specs)
When I installed it on the laptop - it was slow, but said it installed. But when I go to open up Photoshop, it opens the screen - and then just hangs. After about 5 minutes it says not responding and I close it. Any of the other programs that came with won't even get that far. I click on them and it gives the little "thinking" circle (as I call it.. lol) and then nothing.
I have read that CS3 has issues with Vista - but their site says the home premium should work. I've also read about 64 bit issues.. but the OS is 32 bit - so it's capable of running 32bit systems... I guess.
I called adobe yesterday after installing and reinstalling CS3 15+ times... with the same issue. I was on the phone for about 2 hours with them. Basically - they have NO CLUE what it would be since it installs fine and opens with no error messages. I checked the log files and there is nothing in there I see that says any kind of error.
I have disable windows defender, uninstalled McAfee and google desktop (all are known to cause issues with CS3), I have ALL non MS startup services turned off.. I have turned off the MS users control.. all suggested by the adobe tech.
I have installed using the run as administrator. Nothing. Created a new admin account and installed on that user and opened on reg admin account. Nothing. (again typical things that correct cs3 install issues)
The last thing the guy said was that it might be a video issue. I checked and there aren't any issues mentioned and no driver updates listed.
We tryed installing this on my b/f's laptop. He bought the exact one I have (except his is red.. mine blue.. lol) and it does the EXACT same thing...
So today we called dell. they say it's a software issue and won't answer any questions for free. Apparently only hardware support is free... But they won't accept this is a hardware conflict with the software..
    errrrr
Anybody have any clues on this?

Rob - thanks for taking a stab at this.
I have tried installing from the DVD and also from the zip file. the zip file was extracted to the hard drive brfore I ran it - and I ran it as administrator.
And when it stalls - it gives the (NOT RESPONDING) tag on the window - which usually means that even if I leave it (and I have for up to 20 minutes) - still nothing.
Here's the update from my dealings with DEll today...
Dell tech support guy told me that it was a know issue that CS3 WON'T run on Vista and that Adobe is working the issue
Told them that I knew others that were running it on Vista and it worked fine. They had no answer.
Then I waited for the Technical support manger to call. This is after expressing my displeasure to the technical supervisor about them trying to pawn this issue off on anyone else but themselves. Why can't they go grab a 1721 off the shelf and replicate the issue and try to figure it out from there?!?!?!
I used to work on a network helpdesk.. if I tried to pull that crap answer without trying to replicate the issue and AT LEAST try to find an answer.. I wouldn't have lasted very long at all!!!!
The Tech manager told me to call customer support and ask for an OS swap (from vista to XP) because they don't know what the problem is and so it muct be a Vista compatibility issue
I call customer support. They say that they no longer will give out XP since it is a step backwards. And to install XP on the machine ourselves (even a liscensed copy) would void the warranty. They suggest I talk to sales about swapping the laptop out with a "more compatible" one. Which isn't a totally bad idea since I really do think it is an AMD/ATI conflict.
They transfer me to Sales.. ohh - you used the Employee Purchase program.. you need to talk to them.. and they transfer me.
The EPP people tell me.. ohhhh you didn't actually go through us since you bought it off the Dell Outlet store. So they transfer me.
The dell outlet store says they will be more than happy to swap me out to an Intel based machine.
Only catch is the Intels are more expensive. They don't have any for the price we paid for the amd's. Fot about $40 more I can get one with a slower processer, a gig less ram, no dvd writer, but with a 160gb hd. To get compatible to mine - would be about $150 more.
And they only have silver in the low end, and black or brown in the higher. Not that I really give a s@!t what the color is.. but it brings up the main reason I am sooo pissed abput all of this....
Why should I have to pay more money, settle on doing without option/features want/need.. just because THEY don't want to take the time to figure out what the real issue is?!?!?! Why isn't it them doing these calls and doing all this troubleshooting.. Why am I being peanilzed for THEM not wanting to do their jobs....
Told the B/F that I am done with Dell. That I don't want the laptop anymore and I don't want any other one from them. He says he'll pay the extra and get me the other one.. but that isn't the point....
Not sure what my next move is.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode.  It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w.  I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.
